  1. I had my revision on 12/17/19. I too had complications of GERD from my sleeve that I had almost 13 years ago. Since surgery no GERD. I've been on a liquid diet until yesterday and I was able to start protein shakes with no problem. Prior to the surgery everything including water at times would come up. I lost over one hundred pounds with the sleeve and I did keep it off. I'm currently a bit underweight, but soon I will be able to eat healthier and hopefully live a better life. I must admit the conversion was a bit more painful, but I'm also a lot older too and my body has been traumatized a lot for the last two years. I had my surgery at the # 1 hospital in the country. I won't give the name because I don't want to put something they told me without their permission. Prior to the sleeve I had no problems with GERD. The surgeon told me they no longer do the sleeve there because they have had so many patients come to them for revisions after the sleeve due to GERD. I hope your surgery went as well as mine and you are on the road to recovery.
  2. Thanks for sharing that info. I am set to revise from sleeve to bypass on Friday. I also wish that I had started with bypass. I swore that I would never revise. I do have gerd and hiatal hernia. Plus I only lost about half of excess weight with sleeve. Still the episodes of reflux have not been all that frequent. Here I am the day before surgery. Still wanting to back out.

    any single gals out there???

I havent really told many people. My mother has told the whole western world. Its not that I am embarrassed about it. I just don't want to have to deal with judgements about it. Also, the people who my mom told, see me and say "How much did you lose" and I am not becoming a size 2 overnight! The only thing that gives it away is the scars all over my stomach. I told one guy I was dating because I was sure he saw the scars and I didn't want him to think there was something horribly wrong with me. He didn't like that i had it. I would really love to get scar revision of the big scar (where the port was inserted). The little ones seem to be getting smaller but the big one isnt going away. I really think you shouldn't hide it but also you don't have to tell everyone, in that it is a personal decision and you don't want to have to deal with judgements.

    Going from Band to Bypass

Those DARN Lap Bands!!! My hubby had his for 13 years and it malfunctioned. He couldn't hold down even Water. Long story short. He went in for a Revision Sept 2013. It had eroded into his liver they couldn't do the RNY they took the band out and his gallbladder. He got abscesses and was sick for 9 months, 3 months he doesn't even remember!! So just this last June we went to Mexico for his RNY ( had to pay cash because they don't bill your insurance) When they got in there his whole right side was solid scar tissue so he ended up getting the Sleeve. It isn't working too well for him. He is struggling with his mind hunger. I think he really needed the RNY because it is more restrictive and malo sorbent too. I'll bet you can't wait. being sick all of the time is not good. Which surgery are you looking into? I had the RNY July 2, 2013. I lost 124#'s in 6 months and have maintained my weight for 2 and 1/2 years!! It, in my opinion, is the very best surgery. But I do know people that have GREAT results from the Sleeve. Good Luck in whichever surgery you decide on. This is a GREAT place to come for information!!

    Wow U Eat That!?

Actually, I have seen a great deal of offensive posts on this thread alone, not to mention a wealth of absolutely wrong information but the offensive posts aren't from the one you accuse. I am still waiting to hear why lap bands are removed at a rate of over 50% by the 6 year mark yet when these SAME people revise to a sleeve they do well. I was the poster child for lap bands. I followed every rule, did all the right things, followed up with my doctor every 2 weeks for 18 months and ended up losing weight to the point of looking anorexic, I was seriously malnourished, I have permanent esophageal damage, I was so weak I couldn't even go shopping to buy clothes that fit because I couldn't walk that far, and all in all, the band almost killed me. And you know what? I am typical. My case was not unusual. Many doctors decline to band anymore, my own employer refuses to band people. He won't place new bands and he won't reposition slipped bands. He will remove them, he will revise to a different surgery type, but he believes it is unethical to place bands knowing he'll get the person back for a revision. We remove about 5 bands a week. And no, we didn't place them. They were placed by surgeons all over the world. I see these people every single day, I work with them, I take care of them. They are not at fault. They have been trying to get banding right for 40 years. Yes, 40. First it was the mesh band, then the non adjustable metal band, then the small adjustable band. Now the mega band. Stats are NO different today than they were 40 years ago. People buy into this nonsense that least invasive somehow means safer. It is NOT safer. Banding provides the slowest weight loss, the least weight loss, the highest regain, and the most complications of all main surgery types. Least invasive means nothing about long term safety issues. I can have you drink poison, that is least invasive. I can slice open your gut and pour in the poison, that is most invasive. But it's STILL poison. When people are having band problems and are facing losing their surgery type they are already at their lowest point. They feel like even WLS can't help their weight issues. To blame them is childish, insensitive, poison to the soul, idiotic, repulsive, insecure, and simply uneducated nonsense. These people need compassion, not a bunch of school yard bullies saying yes yes yes, you phucked it all up. It's all your fault. My butt it's all their fault, it most certainly is NOT a majority of the time. There is a reason many doctors decline to band anymore. Many hospitals decline to band. Heck, entire countries opt not to band and they are doing sleeves now. Sleeves have far superior weight loss and are one heck of a lot safer long term than banding. People do not need your childish finger pointing and uneducated nonsense. They need compassion and a shoulder. Try being adults for damn sakes! Yes, it's much easier to run around pointing that dumbass finger and blaming everyone and everything except the stupid sorry band. It's easier to slam dunk than it is to pony up the compassion and try to treat people like human beings. And it is far easier to slam dunk and then run and hide claiming you won't be reading posts anymore when we all know darn well you are reading. Yes, much easier to do that than to be a friend. Some of you people make me wish I could be around to see the karma when YOU start having band issues. Lecturing people on band rules when some of you have been banded 3 full years and you still aren't at goal. If you were following your own advice, shouldn't you be at goal now? Some of you can't even post accurate information! This nonsense about erosion being the fault of the patient. Total crap. Nobody knows what causes erosion a majority of the time. So how the heck do you guys know? People, at least shoot for accuracy for goodness sakes! But posting a bunch of negativity, blaming people for something they have no control over... it's nothing but insecurity on your part. Get over your silly little selves!
  6. I am post revision from sleeve to bypass 5 weeks today and I'm starting to transition to a more normal diet. I had a really tough time in the beginning with dehydration and then I had a stay back in the hospital for a bowel obstruction, but I am doing much better now. My eating has gone pretty well the last week. There were a few things my stomach just didn't like but I am learning what it likes and doesn't like. I just wondered what others normal daily menu looked like what portion sizes you are eating. I know everyone one post-op plans and doctors orders seem to be different, so I though it would be interesting to see what others are doing. If you want post pictures of you meals to show portions sizes I think that would be helpful for lots of us to see. Thanks in advance for your time.!
  7. I had surgery yesterday and it went well, but I literally feel like I was run over by a truck! This was a sleeve revision so I knew it would not be as easy as my band surgery, but just hate feeling like crap. Skinny here I come!

    3 mo. post RNY

That's epic! Congrats! My Band to RNY revision is happening this Wednesday. Can't wait to get started!
  9. Washington is ridiculous. That's why I'm going to Denver. I saved 7000.00 by doing that when I had my band done. I will be going to Dr. Weaver for my revision if things work out. He charges a fraction of what you've listed here.

    Very Frustrating Doctors Appt .

Hi Mindy.....would you please share the info on the insurance you purchased that covers revision?
  11. Ok..i had the surgery on Monday.. Was drinking fine at the hospital.. But ever since yesterday I get chest pressure that really really hurts.. I also cannot keep much down. Seemed as though the liquids I am drinking sits on my chest.. Then comes that feeling of pressure. Then a couple of minutes later Ithrow up what I just drank. Has anyone expected this.? Are the chest. ,pain due to gas. I am taking nexium and gas x strips. Are all these symptoms normal.? Btw I had the band to sleeve revision.
  12. I just wanted to update everyone! This has happened so much better and faster than I (or anyone in my world) ever expected . I had my sleeve done on October 16, 2012. I was low BMI but hypothyroid so this should have taken longer but I'm so close to goal that I can taste it. I started at 194 with a goal of 115. My goal has since been revised to 120-125 as I've taken into account my short curvy body type. That said, as of this morning I weigh 134.8... I need to reach 128 to be a normal BMI and I know I'm almost there! I've posted a pic showing me today as well as my highest weight which was right before my Hypothyroidism was diagnosed (first pic) and my weight a few months before surgery (middle pic).
  13. Hi everyone!!! I am 44 and just had a revision from Band to Sleeve 11 weeks ago. I have been overweight since childhood, so my entire life. Long story short. I was banded in 2013, port flipped and was non-accessible. My new doctor an I decided a revision would be best since I had regained everything I had lost (60lbs) with the band. So I was sleeved 7/20/16, the loss is very slow. Im down 39lbs from the beginning of preop. I have a different mind set this time around, so I'm hoping for a great journey. Body temperature

I had lap band surgery 4.5 years ago. I'm hoping to revise to the sleeve. But in the past I was always hot. Probably since I've lost weight, I won't even think about wearing shorts unless it's more than 75 out. I am cold a lot. I still am hot in the summer, but I'm definitely colder than I used to be

    CA - Bay Area

Hi all! I am in Walnut Creek. I had my surgery done March 3, 2016...just passed my one year mark. Due to some complications from the sleeve, it looks like I'm going to have a revision to an RNY. I'd like to find people to talk to about all this. My husband is wonderful, but he hasn't experienced anything like this, so he doesn't have information or opinions to offer me. If anyone wants to chat, message me!!

Help! I Don't Know What To Do!

My daughter had the band put in a year ago and did not have very good success. She has PCOS and a knee injury that prevents her from heavy aerobic exercise. We initially looked at the sleeve for both of us - her as a revision and my initial, but my insurance would not cover. Having talked to the surgeon and done my own research, the RNY is the best, most effective surgery for rapid weight loss. I, like you, was concerned about dumping and malabsorption, but seeing how successful RNY is for most people AND it is the most popular surgery, I'm glad it worked out the way it did. I know that for heaving patients, they like to do the band first, then after a significant weight loss, then they go in, remove the band and perform the RNY. Good luck to you. My suggestion, don't wait!

    Seromas

I suggested an injection, but he said results were inconsistent. I wish the drain had worked, but they couldn't find a large enough pocket to insert the drain. He said if this is still present in September then he would bring me in and remove the slickened secreting lining of my abdomen al cavity and rough up the layer underneath of it, so it would then attach better to heal. Then he would do the revision at the same time. Mine is not encapsulated. When are you planning your revisions?
  19. Hardly anyone knows that i had weight-loss surgery...AGAIN! and even few people know that I went to Mexico to have my band to sleeve revision. I'm 5 days post-op. (June 8 2017). I'm not sure if I'm ready to recommend it to all of my friends yet...however...I followed their pre-op without a single cheat. I lost 23 pounds in the pre-op diet but even more importantly I have been pain free. No gas pains. No about pains. Flying home only 3 days post-op was excruciating but only because it was so exhausting. So I may be getting closer to recommending it. My insurance is great as long as you don't mention weight-loss surgery. So my lapband surgeon actually recommended Mexico and the hospital. My revision was going to be about $28k in the US. Mexico was $4900. That's a big incentive. If you're going to Mexico here are some things I learned. I'm writing them down here so I don't forget too... Bring... Your own towel or two Your own pillow (I brought mine and it helped having it in the hospital and on the plane) Baby wipes for the bathroom. It gets messy. Water shoes (a lot of women wore slippers but I've never been real good at them. Plus I could keep these on while sleeping. And you need them for the shower anyway) Giant sanitary pads (Mother Nature is a b***h and I got my period the day after surgery. Tampons were not happening. Plus it helps with the surprise "juice fart") Extension cord for plugging in phone chargers and cpap machines Your own bandages and tape. For after you leave the hospital. I also brought juice and protein shakes in my checked baggage. I wasn't sure what they had for a liquid diet and if I was going to like it. They had jello and broth and they were delicious. My US surgeon also gave me a prescription for nausea and pain for the flight home. I ended up not needing either but I was so glad it was there just in case. Lysol/Clorox Wipes...I'm a bit of a germ freak Clothes. They have gowns of course but you will be up walking around so much you need something else. I wore loose Capri pull-on pants and giant tshirts. Several sets. Not fancy. Loose comfy old panties Compression socks. Several pairs. They have their own and they are stickers about keeping them on until you get home! I understand the importance. But so glad I had brought a couple of pairs. A very supportive person to go with you. My husband is a super hero without a cape. Unlike my roommates friend she brought. Gave her a sip of her beer she snuck into the hospital! No joke!!! A drink of beer about 24 hours out of surgery! Which brings me to this...whatever you can get private room!! They have them. I saw them. My roommate was so annoying! A phone and a tablet going all day and night with loud games and videos...even at 3am!!! I probably should have brought her some headphones! Bring yourself some too. At least some ear plugs. One of the best things I did was set up a private Facebook Group with only 9 of my closest friends and family that knew what was going on. I could keep everyone updated (in the terribly spotty WiFi service. Don't believe the free WiFi pitch. It's there. sometimes. If you're lucky.) Anyway, my husband kept everyone updated there too after surgery until I was coherent enough. It was great. I loved seeing that everyone was praying for me. It was fun. Like home. Again, I'm not ready to fully recommend it. Maybe soon. I hear a lot of people wake up from surgery with "what did I just do?" Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using BariatricPal mobile app

    Christian sleevers ?

A very humble believer here. God, through Christ has been very merciful to me. I am currently revised from lapband to sleeve. I know, beyond a shadow of any doubt that God has intervened in my life several times giving me the opportunity and blessing to enjoy life and family here on earth. Before the lapband I was a very big guy with many medical issues and was given a second chance with lapband by helping me lose 120 pounds and begin to enjoy life and my family. 4 years after the lapband, God intervened again, when by accident I discovered that my esophagus was with issues due to lapband complications and was revised to sleeve. I am very grateful for this tool(s) he has made possible for me. God is good all the time!
  21. I am having problems with my band. Not to mention my weight loss overall has been minimal. I lost a lot at first then my weight has creeped up because the only things I seem to be able to eat are high calorie foods such as ice cream. I am having serious acid reflux issues and am Vitamin deficient. I have been looking on the web for follow up doctors but I think I am leaning toward having the band removed and having an MGB which is a Mini Gastric Bypass surgery. I am trying to find someone who will both remove the lap-band and do the MGB at the same time. The MGB is a laproscopic surgery as well with minimal complications. I f any one has information on this please let me know. Thank you.:help:

    You're so vain...

Hi I read on your facebook you are having a revision. When is that? I am roux n y this Thursday
  23. FattyCakes

Hoping to get a "yes" answer.

I know, it doesn't. I think they are in the process of revising their policy or that's what I got from reading other posts last night. I went to Rite Aid and did the little blood pressure test, and it said I was only 124 over something... I don't remember, so that means I don't have high blood pressure.
  24. Banded 3/19/2012 this summer had to get all fluid taken out. Lost total of 40 lbs, gained back 30 recently. Dr wanted to do revision, bc of stomach coming up over band. Insurance wouldn't pay for new wls so, I said to keep my band. I'm all good now, it went back down with unfill and liquid diet. I go next week for another fill(3rd since unfilled), right now I still have no restriction. With my Dr hating the band now, and not doing them anymore, I feel so isolated. Started local support group this week, but no one has had the band. I feel like I'm on my own. Could anyone give me an encouraging lapband story?

    New To Vsg!

I also had my VSG on 9/17/12 and I am down 37 lbs. I was not a revision but this was the best decision of my life. My doctor told me that after 1500 VSG's not ONE person wanted it reversed. That is was convinced me that it was okay it was not reversible. Also I talked to a friend who had it done and she told me, "ya know when we eat donuts, we need 3 to feel satisfied?, after surgery one or half of one and you feel completly full and happy." That is all I wanted to be a normal person who can still eat food everyone else eats but can eat normal people size protions. I am very pleased with it.
