  1. Hello everyone! I thought I should share my story. I am 42 years old. I Was never really overweight when I was younger but in my early 30s weight started to creep on. To the point that I went from 125 lbs at 31 up to my highest of 245 lbs at 39 years old in 2020. When I got to that point I started trying everything to lose weight. But to no avail. Nothing seemed to work. In April 2022 I went to a seminar to learn about different weight loss surgeries. I then decided to do it. My first appointment with my surgeon I decided that the gastric sleeve would be best for me. My surgery date was 11/30/22. I had gotten down to 217 from 245 by then. Now six months later i am officially 100 total lbs lost! 72 since surgery. I am 145 today which puts me in a normal bmi range. I only need to lose 15 more to get to my goal! I am no longer diabetic, my A1C was 7.1 in October. Got it tested last week it is now 4.9! I no longer have high blood pressure and I feel great! If anyone reading this is considering surgery, don’t be scared to get it. It was the best decision I have ever made! Thank you for reading this! ❤️
  2. Hello everybody, I am just wanting to share my progress hopefully it can inspire someone who is considering surgery! My first doctors appointment was June 6 2022 I weighed in at 245 lbs. (I am 5’4). Got on a diet before surgery and was down to 217 on surgery day November 30 2022. Now almost six months later I weigh 145!I’ve lost 100 lbs total, 72 since my surgery. My BMI is officially in the normal range. I am 15 lbs away from my goal weight of 130. I feel great! If anyone wants me to share before and after pics I would be happy to! Thanks for taking the time to read about my journey!
  3. I did not have a stall at 3 weeks and honestly have not had one yet and I'm a few days away from 6 months. My weight loss has been slower compared to my group (the people I had surgery with on the same day, from same surgeon), but it has been a steady 8-10lbs per month and I'm good with that. I do have to say I travel about once a month and during those times I make the best out of the food choices (sometimes willingly don't lol), so my slower weight loss can be attributed to it too. Stalls are normal and part of the process, so I understand that one will hit eventually.

    Food funerals

    You have been so successful in the preop, congratulations! I did not have a food funeral, I did eat out once due to a birthday but I only ate 1/3 of the meal. I do feel sometimes if you taste something you have not had in a while, you may get cravings so I just try to avoid the trigger food. You have been doing it for 6 months now, and although I think you may have missed some of the food, it was not strong enough to deter you of your goal. I would keep doing what you are doing and hit your personal goal. Also note that because of the amount of weight you have lost prior to the surgery, your first few weeks may be slower while you are recovering, so you would have a head start on your weight loss journey.
  5. Thank you for your answer. I gave my stats just a few seconds ago. Congrats on your weight loss! That's amazing. I guess most of the time I feel I am doing something wrong. I read others comments on how they cna only take a few bites and then their done. Or they can't eat and only want to drink. i don't have any problems eating or drinking. I can eat about 4-6 oz depending on what it is with no hurt or major fullness. I just fear I am not restricted enough to lose faster. BUT i know with time all will be well.

    S L O W Weight-loss 2 Months Out

    I agree with everything Arabesque said. I don't know your starting weight, but generally speaking, the lower it is, the slower the weight loss is (usually, anyway). I was a slow loser rom the beginning and lost 100% of my excess weight (over 200 lbs) (I've had some regain since then, but within the 10-20 lb regain range that most of us experience after hitting our lowest weight). If you stick to your program, the weight will come off, whether fast or slow.

    You're right that you will be able to indulge in the future, if you want to. It's good you realize that and you have an important goal as well, so it's keeping you from going off track. I think you are already doing a great job on balancing what is important to you, judging by your post. At times I feel like just bingeing for a day but I don't. I know it'll just make me feel worse in the end, and potentially lead me on a path to gain weight again. It's just too important for me at this juncture not to fall back on old habits. I never want to be fat again so I have to remind myself how miserable I was when I was heavy. You are doing great, pre-op is the most difficult part of it all. The second most difficult part is when hunger comes back. If you can find a way to distract yourself until the feeling goes away or are able to remember what is most important to you, then you will be successful not only now, but in the future when hunger comes back, post honeymoon stage.

    S L O W Weight-loss 2 Months Out

    Some people are slow losers & some are fast. Nothing wrong or right about how fast or slow you lose. You’ll find lots of stats about weight loss but they are just averages & will give you an idea of what you might experience not what you definitely will experience. But 21lbs in about 5 weeks isn’t slow. Excluding your initial 7lbs, you’re averaging about 3lbs a week. That’s about what I lost & my surgeon & dietician were happy with my progress. Don’t know what your starting weight was but were you expecting to lose 40 & 50lbs in your first month? That only happens for those who began at very high weights like on My 600lb Life. Oh & how fast or slow you lose doesn’t affect how much you lose. You’ll be fine. Just stick to your plan.
  11. I started my journey in December and I am less then 3 weeks until my surgery date. My program requires you to lose a certain percentage of body weight before surgery. My surgery goal was 21 pounds and so far I’ve been able to lose 43. Now I’m so close to surgery day and I have this overwhelming desire to eat all my favorite crappy foods one last time. Yes I know eventually down the road you can indulge from time to time. I realize that it’s not like I will never get to eat pizza ever again. I also really want to lose another 7 pounds to hit 50 before surgery. 50 pounds before surgery was a personal goal I had set for myself. I need a way to shut off the part of my brain that wants to eat all the junk in the next few weeks.
  12. I was older, almost 54, same height & weighed a little less, 200lbs. I have loose skin. Not a lot though - not worth plastic surgery. I can still wear body con clothes without support garments. How much you’ll have depends on many factors. Age, gender, genetics, how much weight you lose, how long you carried your excess weight, etc. things we can’t control. As an adult I bounced between 60 & 75kg so healthy to the far end of overweight. When I became perimenopausal & then menopausal I put on my extra ‘obese’ weight (I swear I gained overnight). I carried it for about 5 or so years. When I got back to 60kg I had very little loose skin - pinches. As I lost more weight & got to a weight I hadn’t been since I was about 12yrs, my loose skin became more noticeable. Have a little tummy pooch, some bat wings & my butt is halfway down my thighs (it’s the worst bit & what you can see sometimes like in the dress pxt.) Still rather have the loose skin than those extra 42 kgs. I find the loose skin a great motivator. I earned it with my weight loss & I don’t want to gain again.
  13. I am just curious.... I had VSG on 03/09/2023. This is supposed to be the HONEYMOON PHASE! But I am turtle losing. Doing all the right things. Eating my calorie limit, hitting water and protein goals. I have lost 21lbs since 03/09, seven of those pounds was the first week after surgery. Anyone else a turtle loser too?

  15. I am not 46, but I am 43 and had the sleeve. Sagging skin is something that happens to most people, but it really all depends on you, everyone is different with the amount and where they have it. I will say that any amount of sagging skin is better than the extra weight I was carrying. and you can hide it or remove it if you feel the need.
  16. Hi. I’m46 as of 5/5. I was just approved last Thursday and today I was given my surgery date of 6/5/2023. I have 4 kids also 28, 23, 18 and 15. And one grandson (6yrs). My process began 2/21/23. I admit I became a bit frustrated during the journey- all the test. The insurance requirements… the weight/wait…. But I’m finally able to see the finish line. I’m not scared but I have concerns about sagging skin. I weigh 250 and I’m5”3. I’ll post pics once I figure out how. Good luck to you all. I’m also on FB with pics there
  17. I will be sleeved 6/5/2023. Within the last year I gained over 50lbs. I contributed this to the pandemic (working from home) and the sudden loss of a very close family member. I’m worried of course about sagging skin. Anybody care to share pics or any information on if sagging skin was really bad, or how to make it better. I weigh 250 and I’m 5”3

    Looking for "shorties" that started around 200 lbs

    I am 4'10" and my high weight was 245; I was 220 on the day of surgery. After six weeks I had lost about 40 pounds. It took me 13 months to reach my goal weight of 110; I am now attempting to maintain but apparently I am not eating enough because I've managed to shrink my way down to "nonederland" at 97 pounds, and I'd really like to gain about 8 pounds and get back to 105. The biggest period of loss I had outside the first 30 days was around the spring following my surgery as I finally had that "burst of energy" and became MUCH more active, mostly by riding my motorcycle which is a surprisingly good workout on the arms and core! I lost 50 pounds between May and October last year.
  19. Congratulations on your weight loss! My stage was soft/pureed combined and I enjoyed refried beans thinned out with yogurt, chili, hummus, guacamole, crab/chicken salad pureed with yogurt, ricotta bake, egg bites. I found tuna too dried so I only tried it once as a salad.
  20. I had the sleeve, I’m a really picky eater so I primarily am eating sugar free popsicles, protein shakes, and fruits. My doctor said no carbs for at least 6 months and that’s mostly what I like to eat, so I am limited in food choices. I think my food restrictions due to pickiness are what caused me to lose so much so quickly. I don’t like veggies, meat, or legumes, so I really am limited in what I eat. I will say my energy is super low and haven’t been able to work out at all because I get dizzy really easily. I’m not sure if my age is a factor in weight loss but I’m 23.

    Mental breakdown

    normal. Many women experience weird hormone-related things the first few weeks or months after surgery (screwed up menstrual cycles and emotional weirdnesses). This is supposedly because estrogen is stored in fat cells, and during rapid weight loss, that estrogen is released. It'll eventually stabilize and you'll be fine..
  22. It’s okay. We all lose at our own rate & no rate is right or wrong. There is only the right rate of loss for you. Some people just are slow losers & others just lose more quickly at first - everyone eventually gets slower as they progress & get closer to their final weight. There is no timeline as to when you must reach your lower weight. Stick to your plan & you’ll lose your weight in the time that’s best for you & your body.

    Ever changing bra size

    Could be from the oestrogen flush? Oestrogen is stored in fat & as you lose weight it’s released into your blood stream causing an increase of the hormone. It can cause changes in your menstrual cycle (heavier or lighter, more or less frequent, more or fewer PMT symptoms, etc.). You can also become more fertile - be careful. It does settle as you lose more. Have a chat with your doctor/gyno. Maybe request a hormonal blood test to see.

    Ever changing bra size

    I like the idea of an extender, but that still doesn't answer the cup size. I dislike sports bras, they don't give a nice shape. Unless there are some better ones out there. I'm not huge, even for my weight (40D).
  25. I went to buy new shirts for work last week because the ones I bought two months ago became baggy and loose. I started with size "M" first which was still big and finally got size "S" slim fit shirts which fit me like a glove haha. I've never thought that this would be possible 🤣. Here is me in my new size "s" shirt and 31" pants. I need to lose some more weight from my thighs.
