    Successful Band Stories here!

2 years ago I was 27 year old Mother of 2 who weighed 264 pounds and wore a size 20 pant. I couldn’t play with my kids outside of video games. I got winded just walking to the mailbox. I had aches all over my back stayed out all the time placing me in bed a month at a time. I took pills for my pain until it became an everyday thing. Before I was obese I never took pills even gave birth twice all natural. I was ashamed of my body and that caused sexual non-existence for my marriage. Which caused relationship friction between my husband and I. I was very depressed all of the time, and had suicidal thoughts. I researched WLS for over a year, scared of being cut. When I found the band I knew it was going to be the thing that saved my life. I made the calls and made the apt. Approved in 30 days. The day of my surgery I was a total blank for the 3 hour ride to the hospital once there and I had my IV I started to freak out! Scared am I doing the right thing etc all the normal pre surgery jitters. My healing went well, 4 days after surgery I was back to riding my bike 2 miles a day. The first 3 days were HELL for me though. I slept a lot and bending for the pot hurt like all heck. The first year I sailed thru~ no issues~ no pains~ very smooth. In my 2nd year I’ve had two overly tight fills. No biggie they just unfilled me. ya, it sucks but once I was non swollen and better I got another fill and moved on. August will be my complete 2nd year banded and I would do it over again in a heartbeat! I truly believe the band saved my life, and my relationship with my family. We now go camping, roller skating, school functions, swimming, you name it if it’s outside no matter how many people I don’t even think twice about it! I turn 29 on May 31st this year I now weigh 75 pounds less and wear a size 12-14. Even my shoe size got smaller! That surprised me!! I dance, in public even! I wear things that make me feel sexy, I feel like a woman again and have had minimum depression issues (can’t say I have none that would be a lie, it runs in my family) I go in tomorrow for another fill, then I head for FL on next Tues. where I will go to Disney world and not have to wonder if I will fit in the ride carts! I have to say that fitting into a roller coaster seat to ride with my family was one of the biggest NSV’s I’ve had! Hugs to all~ Nana~

    Questions - Sleeve 2/10/13

I was sleeved in November, not a revision. I take Prilosec every day and have no problems with heart burn or acid reflux. I have some hunger, but nothing like the intensity I had for years before surgery, and now I can either ignore it (which I could rarely do pre-op) or I can satisfy it with significantly less food. And since I'm now in the habit of dense-protein-first, I'm a whole lot more likely to make wise food choices. I've had no stomach spasms, and once my incisions stopped bothering me (which was about a week after surgery) I haven't had any other pain whatsoever. The best part, though, is the safety net aspect of the sleeve: When I eventually do give in to a craving and eat until I'm stuffed -- and I'm sure it will happen eventually -- my sleeve will limit the damage I can do in one sitting. I won't be ABLE to eat the entire package of Oreos at one go, ever again! Yippeeee! Then there are the NSVs: I'm off insulin, not taking any meds for my type II diabetes now. I'm off my BP med. I no longer need a daily NSAID for my OA and it's not because I'm just putting up with the discomfort - it is GONE! I'm no longer too warm all the time; I've changed the thermostat in my house from 70 to 73 degrees. I could go on re smaller clothes, etc., but you get the idea. I Love My Sleeve! And I love the suport I get on this forum! Thank you one and all.

    Just broke into 10's!!!!!!

:D Thanks my peeps!!! Just enjoying the losing weight, and for once I feel like I can keep it off too. I'm lovin it!!! I told my hubby I want to get the girls done as soon as I hit goal. Everything else can wait awhile. I guess that's why I haven't even thought about getting any smaller shirts than mediums now. I doubt with the size I want I will be able to fit into smalls. Aaaanyway, here's another NSV... it's my TOM and I haven't really gained any weight (haven't lost either but oh well!!!). I'm keeping myself under control as much as I can. I blew it last time and didn't want to do that again. I'm almost out of it, so hopefully I can race to get to my Easter goal with time to spare!!! :D
  8. My surgeon has asked me to be in an ad for him! I was surprised and pleased. I have been interviewed by his ad agency, and the "shoot" will be later this month. I think it will be fun. There will be a video testimonial on his web site it may also be used in other ways. It surprised me because I am not some tiny size 4 person like some people get to at goal- I am happy with my size 10's and 12's. I am also not a "spring chicken" - I turned 55 last Christmas. I really would like to get rid of some jiggly saggy skin and would like my waist to be 2-3" smaller - but neither of those are happening before the end of the month! When everything is complete, I will post the link to the finished product. I am absolutely a believer in Dr. Nick (or I wouldn't have picked him). I am NOT becoming a "Paid Spokesperson" for him, or anything like that. I am doing this for him because I am thrilled with the changes I have made in my life since the sleeve. If I can help someone in their desision process to get WLS, that's great. So now the big question - what am I going to wear?
  9. Well, the ad is up on my Doctor's website. Here is the link: http://www.nicholson...nials/#!zoom/4/ Please don't take this that I am trying to convince anyone on this site to use Dr. Nick. He is a wonderful surgeon and I am very happy with him. Picking your surgeon is personal choice - I don't think you could go wrong with Dr. Nick - but there are a lot of good surgeons out there. I am putting this link up here to share my story with you guys here on the site. You are the people that helped me through the pre-surgery and post-surgery process and I wanted to share this NSV with you. I have also attached a couple of pictures that the photographer took. The New Waiting Game

IsB glad you got your approval WooHoo for me - diabetes meds/insulin disappeared - no more HB meds - no more CPAP - sounds like you are on the same road your ambitions/plans are great - you'll be enjoying them and many other NSV's before you know it congrats good luck w/WLS speedy recovery
  11. I painted a 3 foot high wooden Easter Egg as a hanging ornament for my front door. It turned out pretty good, if I say so myself. So, I posted a photo of it on face book with me holding it. Holy cow, I got so many comments but they weren't about the door ornament, they were all about me. I've lost 35 pounds but people were acting like I had lost 80 lbs or something. All the comments were so positive and I had no idea anyone would really even notice. I felt like a rock star with all of the comments. LOL I am loving this sleeve and I am so motivated to stay on this diet and do what I am supposed to do in order to lose the weight. I am so excited.

Down 55, 55 More To Go!

That's called an "NSV". None scale victory and aint it great? tmf
  13. I did a search in the "Twenties" subforum for "rewards" and came up with nothing. Figured I'd start a thread to collect all of the rewards we buy ourselves for our weight-loss, exercise goals, and NSVs. What kinds of things have you already earned as a reward for your hard work and/or what are some of the things you're working toward?

    Highs And Lows

Last week i posted a wonderful NSV today after working out like a lunatic all week and keeping my calories to about 600 everyday I get on the scale and only down 2 pounds. I am so upset I really thought I was going to have a big week. I just dont know why I m such a slow loser and I am starting to think I will ever reach onederland let alone my goal of 140. I know a loss s. Loss but I haven't lst more than 3 pounds in a week sice my first week post op. I am almost 8 weeks out and I haven't reached any of my "mini" goals so far.

    Sunta NSV's

Congrats Sunta! It's so important to keep track of your NSVs because they tell the real story of your journey! I"m sure it's all very nice to be able to say "I've lost 50 pounds" but your NSV list shows what it really means to have lost that weight. Congrats and well done!
  17. I've had enough of the demon scales! I realized this morning that I was falling back into my old addictive ways of obsessing about my weight...this happens every time I'm on a "diet". Every day starts something like this...get up, get on the scale, if weight is up feel depressed and a failure, if the weight is down, euphoria. I know it is not logical and I know that there are fluctuations, but the lapband was about taking control of my life. It's not a diet and it's not short term, so starting today I will not let the scales rule me. I've put them on a very high shelf in the garage and will only get them out one day each month when I have to weigh and call the doc with my progress. I do have goals though: my long-term goals are to comfortably wear a size 8, be able to ride a bicycle for 50 miles and to be in good enough shape to be able to go trekking on the Inca trail in Peru by my 46th birthday. Thanks for listening...I really missed you guys while the server was down!
  18. We are in Florida at the moment. Enjoying the wonderful weather. We were sight seeing and happened upon a very small boutique. In my experience I can never buy anything in these store but I like to look. I noticed this beautiful white summer dress and fell in love. It only came upto XL. Owner said we have a small dressing room. Oh why not. It fit like a dream. So cute. Here I am a 66 year old grandmother buying a cute white dress at a boutique. Who would have ever figured??????

    Frustrated!

Time to put that nasty scale in time out! Put the scale in the darkest closest you have.......It's totally bad. Please stop weighing yourself for a few weeks and take a mini vacation from it. It will drive you crazy. The way the weight drops and then stalls is completely normal and the further out you get the slower the weight comes off. So time to work on being grateful for all your accomplishments ups to this point....Yes, you have done a great job! The rest of the weight will fall off in due time but now it's time to enjoy today and not focus on tomorrow..... Eat healthy, protein, protein, and protein, and veggies. Drink a lot of water and celebrate the many little NSV's you've experienced up until today.......You have succeeded!
  20. So true. I lost ALOT of weight on MANY of the diets I tried. I could lose, just not for long. And what I lost in 3 months could be gained back in a week, no joke! Among those I've tried: Jenny Craig ... Grew tired of the packaged food quickly, and was discouraged by the very slow losses. New Direction and Optifast ... These worked great, as they were liquids only; gained it all back as soon as I went back to work. The Diet Center ... I did this plan a couple of times. It worked extremely well the first time (back in the late 80's) and I thought I could stick with the new eating lifestyle forever; I couldn't. Atkins ... Also worked well, but same issue as above. Diet pills ... They were ok when I was younger; less tolerance for them and less results as I got older. Plus I would get too snappy. Hcg ... Actually would work well, just could never stick with it long enough to get to goal. Nutrisystem .... See Jenny Craig above, The Beverly Hills Diet ... Does anyone remember that one? Or am I giving away my age? Lol. Anyway, I fainted and gave up on that. Those are just my majors, lol. I had tried probably every diet out there before being saved by the band. My biggest NSV with the band is the freedom of mind from the dieting mentality I lived with every day since my teens. . Me too. I could never understand why I could gain the weight back so quickly. I forgot about Diet Center I did that one too. All the money involved with all these diets wow! I still find myself being drawn into any ad I see for weight loss. I think to my self maybe I should try that one. I have to stop myself and remember I have done something about it lap band surgery. Old habits are hard to break I guess.
  21. Leslie and Mia - Thosre are great NSV's, congratulation. I haven't posted any lately since I've been at a stand still for so long and I haven't been anywhere or done much. But, I did start back to work at school today and I've changed schools and there were a couple of people who haven't seen me for over a year, and a couple of them didn't recognize me. That was quite nice. Leslie - I know you must be thrilled to wear a size 14, It is such a great feeling. I was shopping Saturday and I still get amazed that I can shop in the regular misses sections. I always thought that if I could just wear a 16 that I would be happy, but now I have 12's in sight. I can wear quite a few 14's and am thinking that 12's would be wonderful. So that's my next goal.
  22. RosioJo, Kristin, and Leslie - congrats on the NSV's! Doesn't it make you feel great? I've had two people, one a male coworker and one a male Trustee for the college where I work, refer to me as a skinny minnie lately. HA! I certainly wouldn't use the word "skinny" to apply to me, but the compliment is nice all the same. At least I know others are noticing!
  23. Had a great feeling NSV today! I have had two co-workers compliment me on my weightloss today. It has been hard for them to really judge my weightloss because they see me every day and they haven't really commented that I've lost anything until today. It made me feel REALLY good to have them finally notice!! In fact when I told them the amount I've lost BOTH of them said it looked like much more than 70 something pounds!!! Yay for me!
  24. I am so happy! I went shopping with DH on Saturday - he actually came without complaint. I hadn't been to Kohl's yet and was in search of some shorts. I bought a skort in a 16 - Misses! It wasn't 16W or in the "women's section". I'm on cloud nine! Oh, I also bought a dress from Cato's in a 16 misses. I'm so excited to be out of the Plus Stores...I haven't shopped in misses since college.
