I was approved for RNY no surgery date yet but I was told it could be as soon as Sept October. I was also told I could not lift anything over 10lbs for 6 to 8 weeks. I have a girlfriend that will help me for a week or 2 and my daughter will be around 20 months at the time of surgery. Is there anyone in the same position as me? How did you cope after surgery with taking care of your child. Thanks

Sip sip sip . Alot of little sips add up . My first week home I sat with a 64 oz. bottle of low cal juice by me with a small cup .... just kept sipping and adding more to the glass. I wasn't hungry or thirsty , but by sipping,it went down pretty easy.

Protein cookie dough-it’s sooo good!!!
Spinoza replied to SuziDavis's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
Oh OK if you're just a few weeks out from your surgery then I would not recommend this recipe. Much better to prepare healthy food from scratch and for that to be the mainstay of your diet forever. Next year and forever after definitely you can build this sort of stuff in as an occasional treat! -
I walked 9 hours at Universal studios in the Florida heat 4 weeks post surgery...lol. You will be ok. and you can eat some stuff by then. AND, you will be smaller....

Hi all, haven't posted on here in a while, but I am struggling. I have been at a stall for almost 8 months. I have changed up many different things.... pretty much did everything I can think of and still stuck. I go between 190 and 195 and I am dying to see 189. LOL any suggestions? My doc put me on Addipex months ago and that's not even helping.

Aw that’s a bummer. Yeah, mine said 7-10 days before swimming, but I waited the two weeks just to make sure. -
Good for you. I have my 1 month post op appt tomorrow so I’m excited about that but I got a lot of questions for going forward. My doctor said I couldn’t submerge in water until like 4-6 weeks, it’s hot and I want to get in the pool lol.

I'm week 3 post op and have had bad stomach cramps the past 2 mornings. Could this be from having tomato soup the past 2 dinners?

Food Before and After Photos

Yeah, I always look at the ads on Wednesdays and Fridays (ad preview) to see who has what for the week and make my list. That said, I paid $5.92US for 5 dozen non- fancy pants eggs last week. Which we a far cry from the $22+ it was last year. I miss paying $3.40 for 5 dozen back in 2020. 😭 -
Chewable Vitamins vs Swallowing
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to MasonMoonGirl's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
WHen I had my sleeve, I had to have chewables. They're SO nasty. OMG. So when I had my revision to bypass, I bought liquids, thinking I wouldn't be able to swallow any pills (I couldn't do any kind of pills with my sleeve for like 4 weeks). I was shocked when I found I could take ALL my pills with absolutely no issues at all by day 5 after the bypass. So now I have the liquid vitamins that I'm finishing up and then I'll be switching to normal bariatric vitamins (mostly because I refuse to waste money lol ) -
I just want to say, as someone who had the sleeve and then a revision to bypass, the sleeve recovery was the hardest. I am completely STUNNED at how much easier the bypass recovery has been. So for those of you who had the sleeve and are struggling, I promise it'll get better. It took me darn near 4 weeks before I was completely pain free. It took 4 days with the bypass. I never lost hunger with either surgery, and I lost what little restriction I had with the sleeve around week 4. The key is to talk to those who have been there and understand the struggle. Some therapy is also huge. The surgery is a tool, but it doesn't change your relationship with food. The mental part of this is actually the toughest part. I promise you, even if you have real hunger, the head hunger is the hardest thing to get past. I can ignore real hunger. But the mind f**k you get from your brain telling you you're hungry, you're starving, you have to have this or that, you can't go without it... that's where the work actually begins. Learning to get over that. Once you do, and you train yourself to recognize true hunger vs head hunger, and you learn how to ignore the head hunger, that's when you've truly won. And it's hard, I won't lie. VERY hard. But it absolutely CAN be done. I promise you that.

JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES
sleevedinthe817 replied to Mira88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to my first post-op appointment yesterday. It’s been a month since I started my pre-op diet and two weeks since surgery and I’m officially down 31lbs. Yay! He said my incisions look good and I finally went for a swim yesterday. I’ve been missing the water. I’ve also gone to the chiropractor a few times and she has really helped with the after-surgery tight muscles. The adjustments have calmed my digestive system AND lowered my BP too. Highly recommend if you have access to one. I started changing up my protein shakes a little as well. Dropped some PB2 powder, half a banana and collagen into my Premier chocolate this morning and it was delicious. A lot of folks say everything is too sweet for them after surgery, but I still looooove my chocolate. Apparently, I’m not one of those people lol. -
4 months out, having a bad day. Ate an entire 10" pizza
learn2cook replied to Jonathan Carlson's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I saw “bar pizza” and I thought Mass! All is not lost as others have said. I plan my pizza into my intake. I see a special holiday or super birthday or a difficult week time wise for cooking. Then I buy a large pizza and purposefully share it so with teenage boys I’m lucky to get 1-2 slices and I’m done. I make sure the size is obvious to share and not a single serving like a bar pizza is! I also eat in front of people. No more secretive eating habits! That’s why this surgery is a lot of work and not the easy way! You probably also weren’t full because there’s no way even a fully loaded meat pizza has enough protein to keep you in check? Every day is a learning opportunity, we’ve all made our learning mistakes too! -
1.7 kilograms lost the past week, well before was 1.4. Very happy! Stepping on the scales is weird, I anticipate the worst for some reason, the relief is great when the numbers keep going down. I'm sitting on 131.2 now, I'll be I the 120's next week or the week after! 150's, 140's, 130's, coming for you 120's!

I'm 50 and was sleeved 9 weeks ago today. Going really well and have no regrets. Lost 1.7 kgs the past week, have lost 17 kgs since my surgery. Just one stall so far.

My Gastric Sleeve Journey
TRClark23 replied to TRClark23's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had decided to only get on the scale once a week, I didn't want to be that person that gets on the scale every day and gets discouraged during a stall. My usual doctors appointments are on Thursdays (for some reason) so I decided that Thursday's would be the day. I have a lot of stuff going on tomorrow so I decided to get on the scale a day early. Last Thursday, I had my first post-op appointment with my doctor and had lost 46lbs since entering the program and 22lbs since surgery. I got on the scale this morning and have since lost 9lbs! I went from 339lbs last week to 330lbs this week, bringing me to a total of 55lbs lost since entering the program and 31lbs since surgery. This past week, I've focused mostly on trying to get my fluids in, mostly drinking water and the occasional Gatorade Zero. I never really cared for water so it's shocking how much of it I'm drinking now. For the most part this week, I've eaten scrambled eggs, grits, cream of wheat, hummus, refried beans, and mashed potatoes. I mistakenly ate the potatoes a bit earlier than I was supposed to, but I haven't had any issues with them, so figured they must be okay. I'm not 100% proud of it, but the mashed potatoes came from KFC.. 😬 I've still done pretty good though, regardless! I'm still trying to get as much protein from drinking the shakes as I can. I get roughly 20oz a day from the shakes which is around 2 whole bottles, so somewhere around 60g of protein. I'm taking my vitamins every day as well. As best as I can figure, my calorie intake is probably somewhere around 500-600/day (this is just a rough estimate, the protein shakes alone are about 300.) I have gotten dizzy a time or two, which I've read is normal and at times, I get ridiculously itchy on my back and stomach, but it's not too bad. I tried to fix it with Benadryl but it didn't work. I did get one hell of a good nights sleep though, so there's that! I feel a lot better than I did pre-surgery. I still have a long way to go, but I'm feeling really great and only have 30lbs to go until I'm back into the 200's! -
Chewable Vitamins vs Swallowing
Arabesque replied to MasonMoonGirl's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It can be difficult to swallow in the first couple of days after your surgery (swelling) but also some surgeons will want you not to swallow meds for a period of time advising patches, chews or to crush meds (not all can be crushed). And of course there’s also what you’re able to do & tolerate in those first few weeks while healing. I had swelling to begin but the hospital gave me pain killers & other meds as tablets in hospital after the first day - it wasn’t easy & hurt. I didn’t have to begin any vitamins until I was home (day 4) but by then the swelling was gone. I was also able to take my vitamins as tablets. Mine were capsules but I could only swallow one at a time with a little break between. Also took half the tablets in the morning & the other half at night. -
I went to a friend & her husbands combined 60th about two weeks after my surgery & had to stand up (no chairs in their backyard - actually there was one but the s-i-l of their daughter’s boyfriend wouldn’t give it up as she’d had a caesarean, without complications, three months earlier!!). I made it to almost 3 hours. Went to a cousin’s 40th at about two months. I was there for the whole party (there were plenty of seats at this one - lol!). You should be okay (as long as you’re not standing for hours 😉). Take an electrolyte drink with you for an extra boost of energy. Congrats on your surgery & enjoy the wedding. I’m sure it will be beautiful.

Ok so not my wedding 😆, but I am standing up in my best friends wedding as a bridesmaid 6/7 weeks post op from RNY. (Just got my surgery date today) Part of me wanted to delay the surgery until after, but ultimately didn’t want to pause my life for someone else’s wedding. Will I be ok at the wedding 6/7 weeks PO? Like able to make it through the night and enjoy it? Guess I’m hoping to hear from others who have had big events in the weeks after surgery. (bonus question - should I order the chicken or the steak? Lol!)

Also wanted to add my surgeons office provides both counseling and nutrition services for life, free of charge. They also required us to complete monthly online classes and 4 in person weigh in classes during the optifast liquid diet. During that time we had to lose 5% of our excess weight or not be approved for surgery. I had to get an EEG cardio clearance including an echo, and a nicotine test, so lots and lots of hoops. Now that surgery is over, I have a phone appointment before I can advance to full liquids abd an in person class before solids, along with a two week, four week, six month and 13 month follow up appointments. If your office doesn't offer this, I would suggest scheduling follow ups on your own.

The only pain I had (and it’s always really bad for me) is the pain in the left shoulder from the gas used to inflate the abdomen. Nothing helps that pain as mine always lasts about 3 weeks! I do see a pain specialist so I can’t remember if my surgeon gave me pain meds or not. If something just doesn’t seem right, call your surgeon’s office, they are the experts, not us! Check with your insurance about a nutritionist & therapist.

2weeks post surgery frustration
catwoman7 replied to silverquill's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
most "normal" WLS patients (i.e., those of us not the size of the people on "My 600 lb Life", which the vast majority of us are not) lose about 15-25 lbs the first month. You've lost 11 in two weeks - so you're right on track! -
Hi everyone! I’m 2 weeks post sleeve surgery. I’ve lost 11 lbs which is great and less than I expected. With an average 300 calories per day I thought the number would be higher. Im staying positive and I’m grateful to be rid of those 11 lbs!! I’m starting the purée diet and appreciate all tips on how to manage the texture. I’ve had some dumping and from what I’ve read it’s from eating too fast and maybe the sugar in my vanilla protein powder (5mg). I wasn’t expecting this! I appreciate your support!!
