  1. definitely not TMI! I know that MVI is quite common and non symptomatic in most people. I'm glad that it can cause weakness; I'm unsure why the cardiologist never mentioned it. Thus far, most doctors have thrown up their hands as if to say, "I don't know. Deal with it." Since the fevers are becoming more common, I can no longer deal with it. I just wish I wasn't made to feel like a hypochondriac. Perhaps I'm overly senitive. I don't know.

(TMI Warning) Ewww i just barfed. Had my Protein ice cream but tried it in strawberry instead of vanilla and i knew it was gonna be a problem from the first spoonful, I ate about 2 or three more and that was the end of that.... I still feel a little nauseous now I'm just going to skip my snack now and wait for dinner, Don't think i could keep it down anyways. Gonna try to drink some tea or something hot till then. bleh, need a new plan for protein again *sigh* Ter72, Glad your doing okay, Hope you do feel less hungry once you get to soft foods, i do them weeks 3&4 i'm looking forward to actually eating food again, Soup so does not seem like a meal anymore, I want some baked fish and veggies! I weigh weekly every tues, since surgery I've lost 9.2 it's my first ticker with the turtle. I was 298.0 surgery day and a week after i was 288.8. Have you/anyone else weighed in?

    Ha, That Will Teach Me!

Hi Thickhawk, Are you drinking plenty? For the first few days I could only pass water, but eventually (TMI warning) I did pass some very loose and watery stools. However, if you are not able to pass anything, perhaps you could ask your dr to recommend something. I had senacot, as it is a natural remedy and works very gently on your system. The box says to take two in the morning and two at night, but I managed to get moving by just taking one in the morning and at night and it worked wonderfully. My advice is don't leave it too long before speaking to your doctor. I was very lucky, in that before surgery I had to do a complete liquid diet that did not include protein drinks. So after surgery, when I was still just liquids to be able to drink protein drinks filled me up. I did start my mushies a day early as by then I was absolutely desperate to eat something. This is when the hunger goes away and you do begin to feel like the operation is working. Hope things work out for you soon. Phoenix
  4. Hey everyone, just wondering if there are any other sleevers who had to be converted to a bypass due to complications? I've had a pretty bad 8 months with complications from my sleeve and never actually progressed to solid food. My surgeon was concerned that I was dehydrated, malnourished and losing too much weight so she converted me to a gastric bypass. Gastric sleeve surgery was on 16 November 2015. I had it in private with a lovely surgeon and support team. So after my surgery I was pretty much vomiting up after my puree meals. The nurse at the hospital told me it was my own fault for eating too quickly (I ate 2 teaspoons over about 30 minutes), and since then I blamed myself every time I vomited. I rang the surgeon a couple of weeks after going home and said I was still regularly being sick and feeling hungry because nothing stayed down. Her advice was to cut down my intake even more and said I was just having head hunger. So I listened to what she said and things didn't get much better. I was losing about 5-6 pounds a week. At one month from the operation, she sent me for a barium swallow as she was suspicious of a stricture. The swallow showed narrowing in the sleeve, but the surgeon decided to wait and see if it resolved itself after the swelling from surgery went down. This wasn't properly communicated to me so again I thought there was nothing wrong except for how I was eating. Fast forward to March of this year and the vomiting is getting worse - I felt a heavy pain in my chest whenever I ate and then an almost passive regurgitation of food and lots of mucus (Sorry for TMI). I even vomited in my sleep and aspirated, which was awful. I talked to the surgeon again and she did another swallow exam which showed I actually had a very tight stricture. So I had a gastroscopy during which it was dilated. I did it without sedation, just pain relief, but it was a terribly painful experience. One week of relief and almost normal eating after the dilation (normal as in where I was supposed to be for a sleever), then the same symptoms came back. So about 6 weeks after the original dilation, I was having it again as the stricture was back. I am a doctor so it was frustrating missing so much work for these investigations - I had to travel to another city to have it done. Fast forward again to early June, and the symptoms are there again! This is when the surgeon decided to admit me to the public hospital she worked at because I was getting too unwell and dehydrated. The gastroscopy showed I actually had TWO strictures - one at each end of the sleeve - and these were dilated. But the symptoms didn't go away and another barium swallow showed that there was still an obstruction. This led to an oesophageal manometry study, which confirmed that I had a torsion in the sleeve. This meant that when I ate, it was twisting on itself and effectively blocking the food and making it come back up. I was relieved this was found - turned out I had 2 rate complications in one. I was beginning to think that my symptoms were in my head after they kept happening after the dilations! Because of this, there was no option to place a stent (although it had been considered). Surgery was the only way forward. On the 8th of July, I had the sleeve converted to a gastric bypass to basically bypass the torsion and enable me to eat again and get back on track. This was a horrendously painful surgery and I recovered slowly. I then got an obstruction of the distal anastamosis a few days later as it twisted and stuck to itself, resulting in blockage. Had to go back to theatre a week after the conversion to fix it. I am still in hospital as I type this (5 weeks here) but am hopeful to be discharged tomorrow! This whole process has been really tough emotionally. I keep thinking "I never signed up for a bypass" but I didn't have a choice - it was bypass or slowly starve to death. The diet sounds very restrictive and I worry about dumping, although I am not much of a sweet tooth and I have already been living on very little food for months. When I first received the bariatric meals at the hospital, I was shocked as the amount of food for one meal was far more than I had been eating in a whole day!! I think the main fear is being isolated - being unable to eat with my family/friends and being left out of social occasions involving food. I'm a private person so only my close family know about the surgery. I know it will get better eventually, but it's really sad. I have talked through this with the health psychologists at the hospital which has been helpful. I feel a lot of regret for having the original surgery, but there was no way anyone would predict that I would have such a bad run with complications. My surgeon said she's only ever had one other patient she had to convert from sleeve to bypass. I did know the risks of complications and I accepted these before I went in to surgery. Being 24, I didn't think it would happen to me. But it did. Stats wise: I'm a woman, 24 years old. Started at about 250 pounds. I'm 8 months out now and have lost 78 pounds, giving me a weight of 170 pounds and a BMI of 25.5. It obviously slowed down when I was unable to take solids, because I was given total parenteral nutrition (food through an IV which worked out to be about 2000 calories a day). But I'm happy with the loss, not happy with all the complications and having 7 gastroscopies, 5 barium swallows, 3 dilatations and 2 extra surgeries. My goal weight would be about 150-160 pounds - I will see when I get there! Sorry for such a long post, but it would be great to hear from anyone who has had complications with the sleeve - strictures, torsion, leaks, conversion to bypass etc. It would be great to have some support as it's been quite a whirlwind for me. Thanks so much :-)

    Breaking Point

Hi there! I'm new here, but am super excited to have found an online forum to participate in while I go on this journey. I am (hopefully) going to be getting gastric bypass at MUSC in the coming months. I'll be self-pay (dang insurance exclusions) so slightly less hoops to jump through, but I have not yet met with the surgeon or anything. My initial consult is March 1st. I kind of wanted to share what my "breaking point" was that ultimately resulted in the call to schedule a consult, and maybe see if other people would share theirs in the hopes that I am not alone. Be warned that it may be TMI for some people, and is definitely not something I have shared with anyone in my social circle (they are not as big as me and would likely be not only disgusted, but not understand). A little background on me, I've basically been obese since right after high school, so around 17 years now. The range of how obese has varied but steadily climbed upwards until my heaviest of 273 (I'm 5'4"). I've done every diet under the sun, including some really really unhealthy ones (HCG anyone?). I've got high blood pressure, problems with my skin constantly being flushed, signs of pre-diabetes, aches and pains from minimal daily activities.. a lot of the same stuff I suspect a lot of people here have had too. You'd think that the health issues would have been enough, and you'd be mostly right. They were enough for me to look into weight loss surgery, but not enough alone for me to actually take the plunge. I kept putting that off. No, to finally make the call it took me having trouble wiping my own butt after pooping. Maybe it's cause I'm just not that flexible, but it sure felt like all the accumulated fat on my arms, side, butt, and back were getting in the way of actually reaching. That was my breaking point. Sitting on a toilet, straining to try and get myself clean and realizing I couldn't. Now, I did eventually manage with a quick shower of my lower half and some creative use of a towel to dry off/make sure there wasn't anything the water didn't get, but I still can't shake the feeling of being unclean every time I have to use the bathroom. Lord knows I am not asking my husband to come wipe poo from my butt. Am I alone in the struggle? What thing, or things, made you finally decide this was what you needed after you'd been maybe putting it off?

Well I'll tell you what, you are right, your perception and relationship with food will change. Mine came before the surgery when I was pre-op and I had some major stuff going on and I could have gone out and had a hot fudge sundae. (or french fries or a belgian waffle) but I couldn't, I was on my pre-op diet. I felt what it was like not to be able to fill that void with food... so I ended up going and buying some new clothes because I went down from a size 18 pants to an 11 pre-op. And I am reluctant to report that shopping has sort of replaced food. I am only a few weeks post op and I am struggling with all kinds of things, wanting to replace food with other things and since I am post op, not feeling up to the rigorous exercise I'd like to undertake. That's what you gotta keep reminding yourself. The first big aha moment for me came when I completely stopped taking all my meds. I am just waiting to see if my bloodwork says I need to continue any of them. Also, post op I have a TMI problem most bandsters don't really deal with and hoping a course of anti-biotics take care of it, but it also has a huge effect on how I feel about food at the moment. I can honestly say, I don't turn to the refrigerator. I am probably in a weird place mentally at the moment so I wouldn't say my result is typical.

I really need some support !!!

Have you tried Miralax? I have had periods of diarrhea and constipation over the past 3 weeks with the pre-op and post-op diet and recovery period. I purchased the Miralax prior to surgery just in case I might need it. I had very bad diarrhea (I know...TMI) the first week but the second week was a totally different story. I just couldn't go to the bathroom and didn't feel like I was every going to go. I took the Miralax, which is tasteless and has no texture, and within 24 hours I was regular again. It doesn't cause cramping or anything like that. I believe that you can get it in a liquid formula but I bought the powdered formula and am very pleased with the results. I purchased it at my local grocery store. I decided to go with this rather than the benefiber that I usually take as I didn't want to contribute to the gas problem. Here is a link... MiraLAX OH...and just so you know...I have a very low pain tolerance. If I can do this...so can you! I made my Dr. aware of my anxiety regarding pain and he really took that into consideration when determining what pain meds to put me on. He understood what I needed because I was open and honest with him. It's not something to be embarrassed of...some people can tolerate and others can't.
  8. Thank you! I am resting in my room. Surgery went great. Can't lie..I was in a lot of discomforting pain at first but now I feel great. Trying to sip liquids and pass gas *tmi* lol

  10. Hi August Bandsters, Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. I can't wait to move on to mushies next week, I agree I want something salty (and crunchy but I know that will still be awhile.) My big problem is TMI coming, I am so constipated, I haven't pooped in July 30, I have tried, colace, coffee, apple juice, even milk of magnesia, I even resorted to drinking a protien shake, ( I am allergic to milk and the protein shakes give me a dumping syndrome type thing) you can tell I am getting kind of desperate. But other than that I am feeling really good, I love the band, and doing okay on eating, I have only been really hungry yesterday at lunch, so far so good. Hope everyone else is doing well.
  11. Sorry if this is tmi. I'm 4 days post op. I had a bowel movement the morning of the surgery, but nothing since. I have had 2 moments where I felt like I needed to go, but it was just gas that was difficult to pass. How long did it take you guys to have your first bowel movement after surgery ? Thank you. Today: The Gripes and Complaints

I just need to vent today. Today I am on my third day of the liquid diet, and I feel like SHIT! I haven't really had the hungar pains, a few here and there, but it isn't really that bad, definitely not unbearable. But what I have been having are a lot of pain in my stomach from the protein shakes, I think I may be a bit Whey Intolerant, not fully allergic or severely intolerant, but I think I might be slightly. SPOIL ALERT - THIS SECTION CONAINS TMI: It is giving me diarrhea, indigestion, heart burn, and I constantly feel like I need to throw up. Is this normal? I don't know, but it's extremely uncomfortable. Lastly about the shakes, they are giving me dragons breath. I cannot STAND the taste in my mouth, and it's not like the after taste that's bad, it's after I have drank it all down, and then this mist is coming back, and I feel like a dragon! OOH I hope it passes soon! :bored: On top of the terrible stomach pains, I have a migrane. I RARELY get migranes, maybe two a year, and of course, when I am only allowed to have tylenol, I get one. The tylenol helps for about 5 minutes, then the pain comes right back, and I am not going to take a tylenol every 5 minutes because that's dangerous. The lights at work are killing me also, I am ready to go get my sunglasses on! But this has been going on for two days and it is making me really cranky. So hopefully I can get this under control. Ice Mask...HERE I COME!:smile2: Well, that's my gripes, I know that this won't be forever, but I just needed to vent my complaints. Only several more weeks to go until I can have mushy foods! Yay! I am already looking forward to it!

    Couch to 5K - Week of 14 ? 20 October

Well my second "run" seemed much easier than the first. I had no problem with the running-but of course I was not going real fast. Usually I walk, hike or do yoga everyday, so I will continue to do those activities on off days. I think I will start taking glucosamine-chondroitin supplements again. I think I will go through the first two weeks, then I will get myself some nice shoes. My butt is fine today! (TMI?):heh:
  14. So I had surgery yesterday morning. Felt pretty good coming out but then once I got settled it hit me. I'm assuming my port is on my right side because I have the largest incision there and it's SO SORE. Like so bad that morphine wasn't touching the pain. I was so prepared for the gas pain post surgery, but I've had none! I wasn't expecting this pain. I was also prepared for constipation but I've had the complete opposite, and I'm hoping it doesn't mean I have to stay in the hospital longer. Did anyone have diarrhea bad after surgery? Sorry for tmi. It's not like I have a stomach ache, I think it may have been from a small cup off apple juice and my body wasn't used to the sugar. I'm ready to start feeling better. A little nervous to get home because of getting on and off the couch/bed. We'll see how everything goes, one day at a time, right?
  15. Wow - TMI with some of that but I do understand what you're saying. However, stage diving is not a dream of mine... lol. Maybe my husband being able to pick me up would be nice. I mean, he can now (cuz he's strong as crap) but like "over the threshold" or "piggy back ride" kind of stuff.

The good thing about being a slow loser

@Feed that's a very interesting idea! Actually I am having some cukes as we speak - so day 1 and done It's worth 0 points so I'm good to go... :-) @DJ, to be honest I think I was grazing way too much first thing. Not on things that are necessarily bad, however I have made some bad choices in here and there. That's no longer now because I'm logging on Weight Watchers and I'm only allowing myself 24 points per day. That equals to anywhere from 900-1200 calories depending what I'm eating. You get dinged heavily for foods that are high fat and high carb. However they go easy on foods that are high protein and high fiber. :-) It's working!! A few other things I've changed is I bought a DVD from Target, the Leslie Sansone Walk away the pounds. She has a fantastic 2 week diet that is so packed with nutrients and very well balanced. Of course I can't eat the portions she suggests, barely by half. Isn't that amazing I can't even eat a "diet" program??!! I love that!! Well I'm on day 3 today... so far so good. The food is so healthy and delicious and I'm not gonna beat around the bush here - I feel totally incredible. My workouts have been outstanding because my energy level is thru the roof right now. I've gotten back to eating more veggies, fruits and whole grains. In looking at percentages I'd say I'm doing about 50% protein, 25% Fats and 25% Carbs. Not bad... One other thing, I've been "going" really regular too since. It's not small amounts (sorry tmi) and it also makes me feel great!! @Chilo - Big Hugs!!! @coops - Hoorayyy!!!! Gosh, being a slow loser sure puts a big spin on every pound doesn't it?? I'm telling you I was jumping for joy when I saw that this morning!!! Congrats and here's to many more!! Cheers!!
  17. Hey guys, Quick question for you. I had my surgery on Monday and tried yogurt for the first time today. I usually just do the cottage cheese but decided to try something different. Right away, my stomach started gurgling and making noise and then came the expelling of gas (sorry TMI - I know...so attractive lol) should I try it again or not? is it good that it’s helping me expel gas or is it giving me more gas?

    sex drive??

Hi all, Anyone have any ideas to rescue a libido that's been killed off by anti-depressants? This is a problem I've been dealing with for quite a long time, but I thought I'd bring it up to my new "cyber friends" (I was banded 11/2/07 and doing well with that). A little history: I have been playing musical medications for depression for about 7 years, and being sexually dysfunctional the vast majority of that time. The combination of drugs I am on right now (Lexapro, Seroquel, Wellbutrin) has the depression largely at bay, but the complete lack of sex drive is so pronounced that I wouldn't care if I ever had sex again. I love my husband with all my heart and we don't have marital problems. I feel so badly for him that I could cry. He's pretty good about it most of the time, but I know it bothers him a great deal - and who could blame him? He's only 35 (I'm 37) and in a very low-sex marriage. I try to "take care of him" as often as I can, but don't feel like doing that either. But I DO try to make the effort. It's like I can be turned on in my head, but the connection between my brain and my "privates" is disconnected. Hopefully this was not TMI for anyone. If anyone has suggestions or (God willing) SOLUTIONS, I would love to hear them. Thanks in advance, Robin
  19. Hi, all. Well I am at the 3-4 week stall. The scale hasn't moved in 7 days. It weighs to the ounce and it hasn't moved up or down even one ounce. I had my husband come and stand on it just to see if it was "stuck". lol So, glad to read so many others report this otherwise I would be VERY discouraged. Also, forgive me for TMI but I've only been to the bathroom once in the last 10 days. I've taken Miralax for 3 days now and I'm getting in about 70 oz of Water. Anyone else having this trouble? As for food, eggs won't go down but egg beaters do. I've tried to eat some type of fish 3 times and have thrown up each time. I thought that was suppose to be one of the easy foods. ???
  20. Hey all, I had my GS done on 6/21/2023, and I feel like I’ve been going through hell ever since. My surgery went great and the healing process went normally. But the weirdness started happening around 3 weeks post surgery. SEVERE nausea and vomiting 3+ times daily. My Dr has me on Zofran which only works sometimes and I’ve been living my day to day barely eating or drinking ANYTHING. My body REJECTS water (tried all different kinds and temperatures of water, along with different flavorings; nada), and it comes right back up. Food stays down a bit easier but even the thought of eating most things makes me gag. I’m prepared for the backlash on the comment I’m about to make but honestly all my body lets me keep down is Sprite and occasionally some cereal. I know I know, I’m supposed to be avoiding sugar and carbonation. But honestly I’d rather get Sprite and cereal down than throw up water and chicken over and over again. My Dr says I’m part of the 10-15% of patients who experience severe nausea weeks after surgery, and that it’s something that goes away on its own.. Has anyone else experienced this?? I’m scheduled to get a CT scan on the 9th of Aug. to see what the heck is going on. I’m almost 50lbs down a little over a month past surgery and to be honest I’m a bit worried I’m losing TOO much weight? (TMI?) But I haven’t gotten my period since the surgery (I’m 20 so my period is usually pretty consistent). Brain fog is real right now!!! I take 30 seconds to process the things people say to me right now and 30 seconds to form coherent sentences. Is this from lack of food? Lack of water? Who knows, but it’s really annoying. This post is all over the place, but I feel the confusion of this post connects perfectly to where my brain is at right now. I have no idea what’s going on, all I know is my stomach hurts and I’m nauseous and I just want this nightmare to end so I can start LIVING. Thanks in advance for reading.

    Sleeping on back

How are you feeling? I feel good just really bruised in my incisions and second day super soar. I was able to go home the same day. I have been able to get water and shakes in. I hate the liquids being at room temp I am use to cold. I still have a lot gas want to fart but I can’t. When I take my stool softener i it’s hard to go down! I hope it works soon sorry TMI. I hope you’re feeling good!
  22. So I am 3 weeks post op 8/9/17 and lately have been dealing with constipation in a way...I go but it seems like I'm not done...(sorry tmi) so I've been doing milk of magnesia, smooth move tea, and just started miralax...anything I eat or drink legit hurts my stomach...it feels like I have a little person inside punching my stomach...I called the surgeon but he doesn't seem concerned just wants me to take miralax everyday or twice a day...says I might be dehydrated...I try to drink as much water as I can...then sometime I get a sharp pain in my lower right side not often but when it comes I have to breathe it out...I'm in the puréed stage but I don't want to eat/drink anything anymore cuz of the stomach pain...any suggestions? Saw my pcp yesterday and my blood pressure is high 180/100....unfortunately I'm in a bind because my Medicaid ended yesterday due to being $50 over in income...so going to the dr or er isn't an option unless it's super serious
  23. Just a quick "hi" to everyone and a shout out to my fellow Tarheel! Welcome to all the new folks! Looks like December is going to be busy for Dr. K and staff. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I did an about face in my choices and ate sweet and/or soft processed carbs instead of healthy proteins/veggies/fruit. I was consumed my the fear was having a PB in front of the extended family and then having to explain, so I didn't even try any turkey or ham. Consequently, I had an upset stomach (TMI -- sorry) all day yesterday from the drastic diet change.:sick :bolt:I am back on track today, but avoiding those scales for a day or two! Happy weekend eveyone -- we're starting to decorate today!
  24. So I survived my first day of my post op semi liquid diet today! Everything went great until I had Cream of Mushroom Campbell soup for lunch. I used Fairlife nonfat milk to mix it with and put a scoop of Isopure flavorless protein powder and bam sudden diahrea and I had it for hours (haven't even had the surgery yet 🤣🤣) I'm trying to figure out if it was the soup or if protein powder does this?? Any insight??
