Ever since i was banded over five and a half years ago, my stomach has been crazy loud and gurgly the miniute I lie down at night. Its not gurgling from food/liquid moving through the stoma, its air in my intestines. DH is banded too and he is the same, we often get into bed at night and laugh at the symphony our guts produce. I cant lie on my back going off to sleep because its so loud and violent it keeps me awake, i have to lie on my side, that quietens it down a bit. Now this may be TMI, but all that air never made it to the rear end, nor did I need to burp. Its kinda like bubbles rising to the surface, because the activity does die down after 20 minutes or so. I have had an ileostomy for the past 6 months and so now I dont, ahem, fart so to speak, but my stoma does - I cant control it or hold it in and since I have had the stoma, all this gurgling starts up and it makes loud, long noises and my bag blows up like a balloon for that 20 minutes! I usually have to get up 3 or 4 times to let the gas out of it, and then it all qietens down and i can go to sleep. But all this only happens when I lie down! It doesnt appear to be related to a full tummy, I dont generally eat at night, its not over-restriction as I have no Fluid at all at the moment, but it doesnt hurt, or cause me any problems and my sleeping partner is my DH of 20 years so I just dont worry about it.

R U EXPERIENCING ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY...SLEEVERS
sunshine6855 replied to ursieursie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love my sleeve even though I am a slow loser. I knew I would eat less but I never comprehended how little 1/2 cup of food total really is. I get full fast. If I eat too fast I get too full and it is very uncomfortable for a couple of hours. Eat slow! I have really bad reflux. They tell me it goes away after about 6 months. I sure hope so. The meds work though. Very, very little pain with surgery and I had my gall bladder taken out also. Someone on this board said to never trust a fart. I cannot tell you enough how true that is ...TMI I can drink as much as I want as fast as I want. I was afraid I would be forever sipping but that was just a week or two. -
R U EXPERIENCING ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY...SLEEVERS

I've been very happy with being sleeved. I've lost 81 lbs since December 28th. I did have some problems with getting lightheaded...I think it was a consequence of my blood pressure going down. I hated the protein shakes, but I know that's just me. The only other bad thing that I've had going on is that I've had diarrhea since the surgery. I know that is probably TMI, but it's probably been the biggest problem I've had. I suspect this isn't normal at all and just a problem that I personally have. I've been referred to a GI doctor. That being said, I don't regret anything! Good luck!!!! -

Hello All So I went and had my 2.5ml defill on Thursday, to take me back down to just 5mls ready for hols and to get some nutrients and vitamins back in ready to start Fertility treatment hopefully. Chris Deprez was delighted with my loss to that point but said I should not have left it that long of being able to hardly eat and being so sick and sliming all the time. However, I now have absolutely no restriction at all, and whilst I haven't gone mad on the food front, just being able to actually eat and drink and keep it down, I have been feeling rotten since Thursday with huge bloated gurgling gas filled tummy, have been going to toilet 3 or 4 times a day, which is a shock in itself after only going once every week and a half to fortnightly for the last 6 months. (Sorry TMI) Thursday night I couldn't sleep as was doubled over with trapped wind that Rennies, windeez and motilium would'nt shift, and I am burping for England just like the early days, but more guttingly the scales have gone up 6lbs!!! I have lost my comfort blanket of the band, and having the sickness which I know sounds wrong but it does keep in you check, and I think I have made a mistake having the defill. Hoping that some of you that have had defills for holidays may be able to reassure me that this is just my body adjusting to food again and will settle, as I am so uncomfortable and I defo can't afford to start piling on the lbs especially with the Fertility appointment coming up which we had only just got after finally shifting the weight. I know I need to try very hard on my own and make the right food choices but as we know I couldnt do this on my own before which is why I had the band! feeling a bit glum and teary this morning (I'm hormonal as well which doesnt help) but I'd got used to waking up in the morning and feeling sticky out ribs and hip bones and completely dipped in belly before leaping delightedly on the scales but this morning I feel like a little rounded barrell and want to smash the scales. Sorry for rant C x -
Hey everyone .. ( this is tmi warning ) : / I like many others have a problem with my stomach hanging down and causing a painful , hot rash . I haven't even been banded yet and I've heard once you try to get a TT after weight loss , that one ofthe reasons they get approved is for said rash . With that said , should I be complainingto my PCP about it now so it's on record ? Does that even matter ? Also , any tips or tricks you've used or know of that helps ease the rashes would be apperaticed !!!

I was afraid to eat veggies and fruit till about 6 months out. They kinda made me feel sick, but I missed them terribly. I am now over a year out, and about 9 months from surgery I started eating salads with just romaine and tomatoes. I now can put any raw veggies in it and not have any problems. I HAVE to have fruit and veggies or I get so constipated that I have actually injured myself. (not going into detail as it is too much tmi) but I now consume at least one salad with 1/2 to 1/4 cup servings of at least 5 different veggies, eat an orange and apple everday, and mix my Protein shake with blueberries in the morning. I only have one Protein Shake a day, but since I lost a LOT of hair, I try to get in at least 75 grams of protein a day. I just have to make sure that I also get in my veggies. I still have problems with grains. They get stuck, and I end up throwing up most of the time. Just not worth it to me. As time goes by, things will get easier. I CAN eat oatmeal in the morning if I decide to mix my vanilla Protein powder in as my milk, and it doesn't make me sick. I love oatmeal, and was told by my pre-op nutritionist that I would never be able to eat it ever again. If I use the shake as the milk, I'm not getting the sugar from the milk. Okay. This isnt for me. I guess I'm hoping the men speak up here too. My husband and I have both been overweight most of our time together. I've always had the sex drive. Unfortunately my hubby's has been getting fewer and farther in-between. Here I'm 3 months out, down 60 pounds and we've been together ONCE since surgery!!!! Once!! About 2 months ago. My hubby's weight is about 290. How much would that weight affect his libido?

how long is this gas referred to the left shoulder gonna last! ugh! ouch!!
marcyg replied to jennifer1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had to share this new news with you. I went to work today (not a desk job) from being off a week and having been banded May 20. Anyway, my shoulder was acting crazy today! I was near tears a few times. So I called the nurse, again, learned a new valuable piece of info. While it is our shoulder that hurts, the gas is trapped under the diaphragm and there is a nerve there that is connected to the shoulder. So! the nurse tells me to use the heating pad on my abdomen!!! I'm doing it now, (yes I am releasing gas...sorry tmi but true). If you try it, let me know if it helps you. I will be trying this until my shoulder stops hurting!! -
Almost 2 weeks ago I went for a fill. He added .5 cc's. After that I threw up constantly and was in pain. I went back this past Monday and he removed .2. After that I drink easier with no pain so I thought that fixed it. He said to do liquids for 24 hours and then eat after that. So 24 hours later I tried eating some soft food. It went down fine but the last little bit got stuck and I started throwing up again so I went back to liquids. On Wednesday I could only drink very small amounts. By yesterday I was able to drink more and I managed to get all my Protein shakes in for the day. I thought I had finally turned a corner. Then this morning I slowly drank my Protein shake. I got half of it down and started sliming and threw up. Now nothing wants to stay down-again. I called the docs office and they said Monday is a holiday so they will see me Tuesday for an unfill. I'm starting to get worried. I mean is un fill really all I need? Before that initial .5 fill that got me too tight I was able to eat everything and anything and was hungry constantly. Now I can eat nothing. I've gone from 176 to 165 and I'm still losing. Since my shake was liquid shouldn't have gone down instead of getting stuck? I'm not in pain so that's a good sign right? No pain just vomiting? TMI but ever since this started my urine stays dark and thick so I'm assuming that even though I can get some liquids down I'm still not getting enough down.

MummiesBB replied to susanlondon's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Wahoo can't quite get over this but another 2 lbs down and 0.5 inch so sitting at 95 lb loss and 76 inches. Wow that's a real feel good factor. So 11.5 lbs to go and then a huge celebration! In a size 12 trouser and hopefully will settle at a 10/12 - would be really happy with this. Those that have had their band for a while did you maintain your weight or did it fluctuate a little here and there. Did you manage this with nutritional shakes or fills? Obviously when I reach target I don't want to really lose anymore but does it just stop? Having the oddest week in terms of food; usually my staple is soup (as it has been since October last year - I know boring but that was all that I could consume) but this week it just hasn't wanted to stay almost as if it's too thick and causes sliming etc (sorry for the TMI). I have been able to manage crackerbreads with soft cheese smeared over the top and more liquids than before which is a bonus. Anyway off to teach baby massage and spend some quality time with my mummies and their little bundles of fun. Have a good day and stay positive and focused. Cx -
This maybe( TMI) just curious if anyone else went through this. A week before TOM I drop mad weight, last week six pounds. Now that TOM is almost here, nothing. I drink more fluids at this time to avoid additional Water weight gain. Just curious if anyone had this happen. Thanks for any input on this. Deb

That is awesome! I'm so happy for you. I too have a problem with taking my vitamins religiously and feel the same way. I'm 29 days post op and have lost a total of 30 lbs. and am now at a stall. It's very frusterating and I'm trying not to get on the scale everyday...lol. I've been good as far as how much I've been eating. Thank God I have not thrown up (hate it)! I've got to that "too full" feeling but that was it. I also am similar in the way that I view myself. I don't really see that 30 lbs. lost anywhere. I look in the mirror and am disgusted. I've been with my husband for almost 20 years and he has NEVER seen me naked...maybe a bit tmi but I feel like were similar in a few ways and you would understand. :-) Overall I know I made the right decision and it's going to take time and support from family, friends, and places like this.... Thanks! I'm doing good today, am sipping sipping sipping! Had a mini melt down last night because I wasn't resting enough and tried to do too much my first day home. Today is better after a full night of sleep. One concern is that I'm having some serious diarrhea (sorry tmi!), like 8 times yesterday, once in the middle of the night, and once already this morning. I'm not sure if I need to call the surgeon's office or not. I know that they gave me something in the hospital to "get things moving", and they do their job well that's for sure! I took 3 immodium's yesterday (doctor told me it was ok at the hospital), and they haven't done a darn thing. I know the only thing that I have taken in has been liquid and liquids in = liquids out, but I'm concerned about dehydration. Thoughts?

Banded on May 19th
GoSetReady replied to shellylycz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Michele, We have the same bandivarsary. LOL I was banded on the 19 too. Today is the first day I feel somewhat back to normal. I feel like the walking really helps with the gas pain. Also after I had a bowel movement (sorry if tmi) I felt tons better. We'll have to stay in contact and exchange war stories. Hope you feel better. Marcille -
Y'all, I'm so excited. My husband loves Chinese food, and I love hot and sour Soup. However, as many of you know from reading my whiny rants on other threads, I have had a really hard time keeping food down--even things like soft-scrambled eggs. So yesterday, we were near his favorite Chinese place, and we decided to eat dinner there; this was scary for me, since there's a VERY short list of things I seem to be able to tolerate, and I really didn't want to get sick in yet another restaurant bathroom (sorry if TMI). So I decided to just have the broth from a cup of soup and go from there. It was yummy, and I ate my couple of bites, tried some of the tofu in the soup broth, and loved it, AND it stayed down and felt good. I asked our waitress about possibly adding more tofu at home, and she said sure, sounded good. We stopped on the way home and got some firm tofu, and I cut half the package up and put it into the leftover soup (probably around 1-1/2 c. of soup, since I didn't eat much of it). Today I got a slotted spoon and got out some of that "marinated" tofu, heated it up, and it was FANTASTIC!!! I was able to enjoy something really yummy, get some Protein, and not be sick!!! Now I'm investigating good tofu recipes. Any of you vegetarian or semi-vegetarian types have good suggestions to share? Thanks! I'm so much happier about things today. Amazing what being able to eat something does for one's mood. Meg

Multivitamin equals vomitting
To Be Thin 2011 replied to StacyS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry... some of you may think this is "TMI" so dont read any further!! ... The first month post op I did liquid centrim vitimans.. then I switched to high powered Centrim for Women.. they are really big, which you couldnt tell from the dark bottle, and about 15 minutes after taking them my stomach was upset, and I would like "burp" the vitiman taste,,, nasty... The show stopper was... ugh.. so imbarassed to admit this but,,, I had a bowel movement and there was my vitiman pretty much in the same form as when I swallowed it..how sick...so I realized my body must not have been digesting this big pill... and I had noticed being so tired and just not feeling the greatest for the past couple of weeks. I went back to my liquid centrim. Its more $$$, I buy it at Walmart and go through a $7.00 bottle every 4 weeks... but at least I know for sure being liquid the vitiamns are being absorbed in my body....not like the vitimans I was taking!... good luck in finding what works for you... -
:cheer2: With a birthday on Valentine's Day, I will also go with amethyst. Since my SO is a jeweler, I will have to be amethyst surrounded by Kts. and Kts of diamonds!!! The more glitz, the better!!! I have my final consultation with my surgeon this morning. YIKES!!! Wish me well, fellow "JEWELS OF JUNE". :grouphug: [quote name='kwikwits' timestamp='1305865006' post='152882'] Woo woo!! Valentina -- you scored big with "Jewels of June"!!! I love it!!! I'm off this board for one day (getting an EKG & blood work from the PCP) and this is what I've missed! Okay -- as a "Jewel of June" I'm sticking with what I know...a deep, deep purple Amethyst! Its my birth stone & comes in a color that this 56 yr old hippie still finds very "groovy'! Just finished Day Two of pre-op diet -- Slim Fast Low Carb RTD shakes Vanilla & chocolate are drinkable...mixed with a little coffee -- not too shabby. My soon to be sleeved stomach isn't thrilled -- rumbling with gas and diarrhea. The big D is my arch nemesis -- I have it pretty often -- one of the many reasons I would never have bypass -- my intestines work too efficiently -- there are days I worry I won't ever leave the bathroom. Okay -- I know TMI! Does anyone know if you can take Imodium after surgery???

Suddenly Single... now what?
dramagirl28 replied to dramagirl28's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you guys so much for the support. I can't imagine doing this without him. He has never had trouble with weight but somehow always knew exactly what to say. When he said I was beautiful, I actually believed him. I have a lot of work to do on myself. I know WLS is right for me but it seems so scary now. I've been prepping for it since October of last year, all in the context of our relationship and our future. I'm going to be getting my surgery date in the next week or two and I know that will really set things in motion and I feel like I'm struggling to put this in the new context of my life without him (which I can't even imagine right now). Breakups suck in general. I really didn't need this added complication. I think it will only emphasize how alone I am. The funny thing is that since he broke up with me I haven't been able to eat anything really. Just thinking about the smell of food made me sick to my stomach. When I did manage to convince myself to put something in my mouth, I couldn't bear the taste or texture. I was so hungry but so sick to my stomach. I turned to Protein shakes just to quiet the rumbling and to get in some nourishment. I kept thinking "get used to this--this is what it's going to be like post-op!" Today is the first day I haven't thrown up due to stress (tmi?) and I was actually able to eat two decent meals. Anyway, thanks for listen to me ramble. My friends and family have been supportive about the breakup but this element of it needed some specialized attention. -

So, I decided to go back to work today. I was going to go on Monday, but took a couple extra days...so very tired still. I am doing o.k., just wish I could take a nap and that someone would turn on the heat!! I am freezing in here! Feeling really weak, but I have a desk job and think I will be o.k. About 40 minutes ago, I got really embarrased. Had to go to the bathroom, stomach was rumbeling. We have a shared 3 stall restroom. I was letting it go....have had diahrreaha since last Thurday. I had the most extreme gas and as you know commercial bathrooms ECHO BIG TIME!! I was mortified. Although nobody was in there, I am sure the people that sit around the corner from the door could hear me!! TMI, I know, but I just wanted to die. RIGHT THERE!! Today is day 9 for me. I went to see my primary dr. yesterday because on Saturday, I got really dizzy in Walmart and had to go sit in the car. My bp was 111/49. I quit taking my bp meds that day and have felt better. I told him about it and he said.................I DON"T HAVE TO TAKE THEM ANYMORE!!!!! YAY HORRAY!!!! I also was taken off my Metfomin as my blood sugars are in the normal range now!!! YAY HORRAY!!!! I weighed myself this morning and have lost 7 lbs since surgery. That is fantastic. I just wish I could eat more. I am not eating as much as I should be. I am trying to get my fluids in and doing pretty well with that part! My dr. drew my blood yesterday to check my anemia and the test results today show that the anemia is not looking too good. Probably why I am so pale!! I am not sure what he will do, but probably gonna do something. Keep rockin' your sleeves!! Kelly

I'm Never hungry ?
JonathanNY replied to bluescooby14's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
had mine done yesterday! Been sucking on ice pops continually and trying to get some stock in me, been having the gas pains in my upper chest as well. however, i have managed to pass gas (the bottom end! TMI!) and i even went to the bathroom! I wont get into those details unless someone asks -
Im hungry. I do a shake and an hour and half later I'm starving. My blood sugar is also getting really low which makes me hungry. I believe I'm going to have to back off the diabetes meds now. I meet with the surgeon tomorrow to sign consents...and I BET I haven't lost any weight. I feel bloated and TMI I'm PMSing. Not a good time to get on the scale. Maybe he won't be too upset. I'm not having surgery til June so that gives me some time to loose some weight. They said to shoot for 10lbs. Just enough to get my liver in shape apparently. I would, however, like to loose more pre-op. Rant over Hi! May I suggest some strategies for this PreOP step? First of all, you are trying to shrink your liver. Dr told me not to worry about losing at this point, just get 60-80g Protein in each day and to avoid carbs and sugars, but drink lots of Water. I use Propel, and Powerade Zero to fill in between my bottled water, and am getting about 64-70 oz in daily. I have lost some weight without trying. I started at 223, 218 when I got my PreOP diet, and am now at 215. I suppose I will be about 210 at surgery. I would make sf Jello, put your nonfat cot cheese in it--tastes great with lime, cherry, orange, etc. I also got sf popsicles, and also eat lean fish and chicken. I did eat a burger patty tonite and blotted all the fats away from it. I put some plain horseradish on it. I use pepper to flavor with. My protein supplements are Premier and Muscle Milk light that I got at costco. Those taste very good. You mix with water the Muscle Milk. I got Premier premixed shakes to carry with me when I am out on errands, etc. I try to vary what I eat as much as I can to break the monotony of the diet. As is, the diet is cut and dry. Mine is revision surgery, so am being extra careful with this and the whole phase of my journey. If you are low in sugars, do not take any more pills or insulin as that would just make you drop dangerously low. Also, make sure you take your vitamins--a multi, Calcium, B12 sublinguals, vit D3(this absorbs the calcium). My thinking is you may not be getting enough liquid in your diet. I hope this helps! Good luck!
