I have the band, but WLS is WLS. I didn't find this site until after the surgery. My lung doctor told me I was getting the band. I never asked questions and never looked into anything other than the meetings at the hospital. Maybe sometimes not knowing is better? Just think of all the wonderful things that happens with the surgery: fitting into a restaurant booth, not buying clothes in the 'Plus' department, crossing your legs (I am right now), fitting into seats at a concert or sports arena. These are all NSV!!! to look forward to. NSV=non scale victory. Good luck and happy holidays. Arlene -

Amazing! So exciting for you:) Congratulations on all of the wonderful NSV's and you look great! -
So when you are 3+ years post-op, NSVs are far and few between (because you've usually had all of them by then...no more plus sizes, fitting in airplane, movie theater, and don't forget restaurant booths, etc.) BUT the other day this happened to me: A tall slender girl who I know from the gym texted me and asked if I happened to have a "ugly Christmas sweater" she could BORROW? Wait...tall slim girl thinks I have something that she could wear that wouldn't look like a TENT on her? WOW! That was a first for me. Guess I must look fairly "normal" when it comes to sizes. And of course, I didn't have anything for her but just to think that we are in the same general SIZE ZONE was a big ole NSV that I had to share!

Hi and welcome to the best site and the greatest support system ever! Getting the band is the best thing I did for me. I am much older than you. Being that you are so young just think of all the wonderful things you can do with your child. Sorry forget the sex. Going out to dinner and you fitting into a booth is a great NSV. (non-scale-victory) We all love those on this site. Smaller size clothes. Breathing better. I don't snore anymore. I no longer shop in the 'plus size' departments. My only meds are Vitamins and minerals and 2 prescriptions for BM troubles, I have. Good luck and stay in touch. Arlene

I've had a difficult month. I've run 2 times in the last 4 weeks. Had to work way too many hours and then ended up with bronchitis and then had to travel for work last week. Finally got a good run in this morning and was worried about going long. I'm training for a half and I need the long runs to get me ready. The furthest I've run has been a 10K (6.2 mi). This morning I ran 8 freaking miles!!! I'm going to pay for it tomorrow, but everything is feeling good right now. Had another NSV this last week and only you all can understand how happy this makes me... -
#hashTag# as "we" on the board always/should say - all docs are different check/ask your doc or NUT - they will tell you if/when you can have coffee - maybe decaf for me, i was allowed coffee at 2 months there have been other threads discussing issues of coffee not trying to get rid of you but go to the search area on top of your screen, and put in the word coffee when i am out and about i enjoy going through the drive through and grabbing a refill and my small NSV i never ask for a donut, and i'm ok with that no profile/ticker hint, hint so i can't tell what stage you are in "sounds" like you are still pre-op...........or maybe very early PO??? so,,, either good luck with WLS - speedy recovery, or keep up the good work!!! or i'll just say - continued good luck with life kathy

Hello Store That Sells Regular Sizes!

Whoop whoop. Big NSV for me tonight. I fit something from a store that wasn't Catherine's, Avenue, or Lane Bryant. Hello 3X I am so happy to meet you!!!!!!! -
Congratulations on you NSV, may you have many more in 2014. :-)

So I was out shopping with my husband and he pulled me into New York and Company. This used to be my favorite store until I couldnt fit into their clothes anymore. The largest size they have in the store (in jeans) is an 18. I started at a size 20 in plus size jeans. He took the 18, and sent me into the dressing room. I gave myself a pep-talk....this isn't a plus size store. The 18s might be tight but that's ok. If you went into Lane Bryant they would probably be a little loose. You'll get there. So I pulled them up, suprisingly easily, and smiled when I realized they were too big. I asked him to get me a 16. He came back. They fit pretty good. He said, "just for the hell of it, let's try a 14....if you keep losing weight they will fit in no time". So I did. AND THEY FIT!!!!! I lost it. Cried like a baby right in the dressing room. I still can't believe it. I am wearing a size 14 jean from a regular, non-plus-sized store and I can breathe at the same time! I'm really doing this. I can do this! WE CAN DO THIS!!!!

Yes, you are right. There's a stigma with being overweight. One of the things that pushed me over the edge and made me decide to do this - was during the summer my husband worked out of state and me & the kids went to visit and he introduced me to a guy that he was working with - I was so embarrassed. I felt I looked terrible. My husband never said a word about me being overweight. So - this story does have an NSV - since I have lost almost 40 pounds he comments on me every single day about how good I look! -
NSV - We just had 50+ posts about GAS!!!!!!!! Congrats everyone and give yourselves a pat on the back!

oh yeah, I'd get another therapist ASAP. please please please try to ignore the scale. you did not gain five pounds...the calibration is different for any scale you get on. you must remember you are not a number but a person. are you having nsv's? I bet you are. are your clothes fitting better or are you wearing smaller sizes? I bet you are. do you have more energy/less pain? I bet you are. focus on those goals and forget about the damn scale. hang in there!! I started seeing a therapist because of all the changes I've gone through this year. she has a band and understands wls and food issues so I think we'll work well together.

Spent 4 days in Hawaii on a work assignment, and maintained my weight. The office was about a mile away, so I didn't get a car and walked to work each day. While my food choices could have been healthier, I listened to my band and life was good.

You know, sometimes you don't realize you've experienced a NSV right away but then it dawns on you.... Just a few minutes ago, I was on my work laptop just to check my messages because I took yesterday off as a personal day. So, I'm sitting on the couch and reading/writing emails when it occurs to me that my laptop actually fits on my lap. It's sitting perfectly level on my lap...and not up on my belly as it used to. Hallelujah....another drop in the 'I'm normal' bucket. -
Got naked, nobody died of shame...

Okay, here's a dose of keeping it real...haha. I was self conscious beyond reason, especially about my upper, inner thighs. I had carried alot of weight there and even post weight loss it was hideous in my eyes. It was bad enough that I was quite sure any man with intact vision would be ill at the sight. I came up with an ingenious solution.....thigh high stockings even under my jeans. I must have spent 20 minutes positioning those stockings with precision so the lacey top"covered" the offending spot. I had more pretty lingerie strategically hiding other horrors as well. So....first time we were together he peeled those stockings off so fast I didn't even have time to protest.. Oh no! my shields, disguise and security coverings hit the floor in about 2.3 seconds. I was momentarily shocked and nearly protested....but what happened next made me forget that I needed a disguise to hide behind. I am quite sure that all the verbal assurances in the world would have never approached how that unbridled passion made me feel. That feeling of being a desirable woman.... It was truly an epic NSV.
