    Help with PCOS diet

Hi Kami, I have PCOS as well. In my pre op diet I lost 29 lbs. since surgery (6/27/13) I have lost 20lbs. I was feeling a little down...even after I spoke to my surgeon because he didn't seem too thrilled with my weight loss either. He told me I was at the "low end." Anyway, I have since changed my attitude and I Celebrate EVERY success...even my non scale victories! You will be successful, even if it goes a little slower than other people. The point is...you are losing!!!! Celebrate that!! Since you know that you stall often just make sure you stay on track during those times. Also, find some fun things to do during those times in order to take your mind off of it....bowling, movies, long walks, etc. that stall will not last forever! So...about what I eat. I eat 5 small meals a day, all focused around Protein of course! Each meal is about 10-15 grams of protein. So, one day might be 1. Greek yogurt 2. Drumstick 3. Small Protein shake 4. Another piece of baked chicken 5. About 3/4 cup of chilli. The amounts are pretty small, even though it may seem like a lot of food. I can only take 3-5 bites of anything before I'm full. So, I only count each meal as 10-15 grams of protein. I also drink Water in between these meals. Sol, I hope this helps a little. I just want to encourage you...slow and steady WINS THE RACE!!! We can do this! :-)
  2. All is going well, I feel fantastic! Slight hunger, decent amount of energy. Im having NO PROBLEMS getting my fluids in or protein. Actually Im concerned that my sleeve is too big.... anyone have this issue??? I haven't weighed myself since surgery, but I will when I get home to Texas today or tomorrow. 51 year old woman VSG DATE: 10/28/17 5' 5" HW: 259 CW: SW: 245 GOAL: Healthy and hard

    Hungryyyyyyyyy Post Op day 3

When will day 10 get here so I can break open this can of Tuna. I was fine for the first few days, now a sista is hungry. I am in my room listening to music, reading books, pacing back in forth, going to sleep waking up, doing whatever i can to get my mind off of this. I wasn't hungry for the first couple of days, now I am hungry. I think I will get me a bottled water and shake some crystal light in there. I am trying my bestest, because I want to make sure I am doing everything correctly. It's a mental thing, I just need to focus focus focus.

Thank you for the info just had surgery 11/19/11 and Im having the same symptoms!
  5. Well, it has finally happened...I have less than 100 pounds to lose until I am at my doc's "ideal" weight goal for me!!! I am completely ecstatic!! It will be 15 weeks on 9/10/8 and so far, I have lost 84 pounds!!! This is, by far, the best decision I have made in my life!!! If anyone out there is sitting on the fence, especially if you have health issues, seriously consider getting this done!! It has saved my life. My diabetes is basically gone, my sleep apnea is gone and I no longer hurt like I was tied to a whipping post at the end of every day. I will not mislead anyone...it takes more than "work", it takes a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MINDSET!!! You have to let your past life go...forget your diet history, your bad habits and previous failures!! Focus on your new life...one filled with health and fun. Don't think of being on a diet ever again--but make wise food choices. In all honesty, food holds no joy for me anymore...and I love it. My biggest fear was giving up this comfort blanket that I had so desperately clung to all of my life. But after several physically uncomfortable meals, I have let it go!!! So, everybody out there--good luck!! I mean it sincerely...stay focused and remember that you have life waiting for you out there!!!

    ?

It probably has different definitions for different people. For me it was the two day pre-op period and the first 10 days after surgery, when I could only have protein shakes, broth and Jello. I just couldn't choke down any more vile broth. I was dying for some yogurt or cottage cheese or oatmeal. I NEEDED my mushies!!!! Fortunately, I went in for my post-op, and got the approval to start with soft foods.

    Sleeved 1/5/19 pain and emotional

Ok so I made a huge error when I wrote this. My surgery date was 2/5/19. That’s what happens when you have a huge thumb and do not proofread. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️
  9. Hi ya'll, My surgery was August 19th, and Today I am 10 weeks out. Currently I am down 70 pounds! It's so surreal! I haven't gotten anymore energy than before yet, and I have only dumped once trying to drink milk (even after taking a Lactaid chew) It was horrible! I need to find a milk that taste similar to real milk! Almond and soy I totally hate! So aside from feeling great, eating well, and swimming in all my clothes lol, I wanted to know if anyone has tried hot cocoa?? If so what was the outcome and what kind did you use.. Approaching winter time it's one of those things I love when I'm cold and curious if we can handle it.. I have drank nothing but water since the day of surgery and my pallet is craving something else so bad. please let me know. thanks so much

    4 month post update

Hi, I am in the exact same boat as you. I just had my sleeve done on 4/10 in Mexico. You look amazing. I hope I look like you in 4 months. I'm the same height. I'm at 204 since surgery. Did you work out a lot?

    Newbie

Hi Im Fran and was banded Nov 08. Seems to be working pretty good so far. I feel stupid asking this question, but Ive asked he PA who does my fills and I still didnt get it. She says I should be able to eat about 4 oz of food, and Im not sure if that is 4 oz's like on a scale or 4 oz like in 1/4 a cup. I guess i get myself confused because for instance 4 oz's weighed on a scale, say of popcorn is alot more then if its 1/4 of a cup. Ive lost 42lbs since being banded, but seem to be at a stand still now. I go back Nov 10 for a checkup and another fill. But im trying to see if I need a fill or if Im at that sweet spot. Any advise would be really helpful Fran

    UK Newbie

Hi, I had my surgery in May in the UK, and I have not lost a single kilogram. Have had few fills, we reached 6.4 out of a 10 band, and at 6.4 I couldn't have Water down. He emptied some, right now I am at exactly 6.15 like yourself, and I feel minimal restriction. So I'm going back to fill 0.1 next week, hoping to reach the sweet spot! I have been extremely frustrated and still am, as I've been through this big surgical procedure without losing any weight. I know we should not be comparing fill sizes etc as we are all different, but sometimes it helps to talk with people in a similar situation. Im hoping my "green zone" will be somewhere around 6.25. How are y'all doing?

I agree. It has been pretty quiet. Maybe everyone is vacationing and having fun? I was banded on May 20, 2008, and had my first fill a month later on June 27 (2 cc was added to my 10 cc band). I have lost 26 pounds! I went to my internist last week and we are experimenting with removing my blood pressure medication for three weeks because my blood pressure has dropped so much since I have lost 26 pounds. This was one of my first goal with my lapband surgery - to eliminate blood pressure medication and I'm doing it! I have also gone from a size 22 to a size 18. In fact, I bought a size 14-16 skirt yesterday. I don't recall EVER being this size. I think I skipped it on the way up. Although, I must admit I am a bit discouraged about not losing any weight since my first fill (its been almost a month). I have stayed at the same weight (261) despite eating the same things and exercising even more. I really thought the fill would help with more restriction but it hasn't. In fact, I have less restriction but I do feel full most of the time and my cravings have been eliminated.
  16. Gosh, I am so happy right now. I'm so glad I decided to do this, especially now. I'm 25 years old, and I've been overweight since age 17. I was always thin as a kid and a teenager (I even suffered from anxiety that led to anorexia at age 10). Who would have thought that a once anorexic person could be obese? I packed on a whopping 50 pounds in only 3 months during my Senior year of high school because I was put on oral steroids for sinus issues. I went from a size 6 in pants, to a size 12. I was mortified, but I couldn't stop eating. My highest weight was 255, while I was only 125 at age 15. That means I put on 130 pounds in 10 years. I was diagnosed with Pseudotumor cerebri at age 20, even though the symptoms started at age 17; obese women are most at risk of getting it. Pseudotumor cerebri controlled my life. I was having visual obscurations (even though my vision is 20/15), I would get severe migraines that made me vomit, and I basically slept my life away from feeling so fatigued. After losing 60 pounds, I am no longer having visual problems or migraines. It's so much easier to get out of bed in the morning. I used to sleep until 2 p.m. on the weekends. This past weekend, I was up by 9:30 a.m.! I was like, "Is this clock right?!" Ha! I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea earlier this year (I stopped breathing in my sleep over 30 times per hour). I had already decided to get a Sleeve before I found out about the sleep apnea, because I was miserable carrying all this weight on a 5'2'' frame. I recently bought myself a Fitbit after my surgery as a treat to myself, and to keep up with my walking. I noticed it has a sleep feature that records when you're awake, asleep, and restless. I looked through my old sleeping records and matched them with this month, and I can see a HUGE difference. I was only getting maybe 1-2 hours of restful sleep each night. Now, I am getting at least 6 hours of restful sleep. I know it will improve as I lose more weight. This surgery has given me my life back.

    Pre Op Diet??

Hi again, I found this & thought some of us might be interested? (here's where I saw it:http://www.bospa.org/Information.aspx?Page=19) Pre-op liver reduction plan Just because you are awaiting a surgical treatment for your morbid obesity, this is not an excuse to sit back and gorge out on as much food as you can! Any weight you can lose through dieting before your surgery is an advantage - it will make the surgery easier and will reduce the risks associated with it. Some surgeons mandate a very restricted diet - one that is low in fat, sugar and carbohydrates - for one week prior to surgery and even if your surgeon doesn't ask you to follow this diet, doing so will increase your chances of your operation being completed laparoscopically because it will shrink your liver down in size. By following a strict diet, your body reduces its glycogen stores (glycogen is a form of sugar stored in the liver and muscles for energy). With each ounce of glycogen, the body stores 3–4 ounces of Water, so when you follow a very strict diet, especially one that is low in starch and sugar, your body loses its glycogen stores and some water. The liver shrinks as it has less glycogen and water in it. This diet is only recommended for one week before surgery and is not to be followed post–operatively. It is quite possible you lose a lot of weight that week, but it will be mainly be water loss. Please ensure you continue to drink throughout the day. Here are some menu suggestions: Breakfast Small bowl of Cereal, or 1 slice of toast with a scraping of low fat spread lunch 1 slice bread or 2 crispbreads Small portion lean meat or fish, or Small portion cheese, or 2 eggs (not fried) Green salad (no dressing) or tomatoes dinner Small portion lean meat or fish, or Small portion low fat cheese, or 2 eggs, or Tofu or Quorn based dish 1 small potato or 2 tablespoonfuls Pasta or rice Vegetables (as many as you like except for root vegetables) Daily 1/3 pint milk for use in drinks and on cereal 2 portions of fruit (e.g. apple, orange, banana, pear) Free water, tea, coffee, low calorie squash or fizzy drinks 1 low fat, low sugar yogurt or fromage frais
  18. i have not had the surgery, but will have my first consultation this month. i have diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, fibromalagia, depression, and am 100 pounds over weight, plus i am having a very hard time with the smoking. I have been a smoker for 40 years. I am scared. my sister and my Aunt are telling me stories of how this person and that person died after surgery. Infections and so on. these people had theirs over 10 years ago, surely this has been perfected. what if you do not have a good support team? does it make it harder? how much help do you think i will need? i want to try the chantix i have heard this is a mind altering drug. i take so many drugs now how will this effect my other meds? i am truely frightened. i have 4 years before i have to purchase private medical insurance. with the obama care being so weird i probably couldn't afford the price with all my current aflicktions. Smokers immediately have to pay 50% more than anyone else; let alone having all the other medical issues.

    not yet restricted

It is good that she is checking. At least you know what you have. Something odd happened to me a couple of Friday's ago at a dinner party. We had steaks on the grill, some veggies (I skipped the rice and corn on the cob). We had variations of pies and ice cream for desert. Well, the steak was medium cooked but it was the best steak I have had in a long time. It was moist and soft and perfect. I swear I ate a couple of bites of veggies, but over the course of about 40 minutes or so, I ate the entire steak (maybe 10 ounces) and I was comfortable doing it. It felt like not being banded. Most days I can't get but maybe 4 ounces down, a bite of potato before I get uncomfortable. I also had a small sliver of pie with a spoon full of ice cream an hour or so after dinner. Anyways, this did not make any sense to me. How can I eat so much at one sitting out of the blue and not other times? At first I was worried about my pouch being stretched but I have watched closely how I felt after. I still have good restriction 90% of the time and I don't tend to overeat since I stop eating when I am still comfortable. Is it possible that we can just have an occasional fluke where the band is extra open? Steak is not a typical food that I could possible overeat without paying consequences for it.
  20. I had RNY on Feb 5, 2019. My hair loss started mid May and ended about mid July. I already had thin, fine hair to begin with so the loss was very noticeable (to me at least). Now here I am in October, 80 pounds down, and my hair is growing back! The pictures are of my bangs because it’s so noticeable there, but I have inch long hair all over my head. It makes my cowlick more obvious so I’ve been wearing a lot of ponytails to try to control it. My hair looks pretty awful with the little hairs standing straight up all over, but I’m thrilled it’s growing!

Thinking of surgery, Can you relate?

It took me 10 years and many, many, many failed attempts of dieting on my own before I was finally willing to have the surgery, but I am glad I did. Could I do this on my own? Maybe. Would it last? No. My deciding factors were simple for me (when I finally go there!) - two people lose the same amount of weight - one with surgery, one on their own - both are seemingly healthy. However, the person who DIDN'T have the surgery is still at a much higher risk of weight related diseases than the one who had the surgery. That was pointed out to me by a physician and the decision was made for me. I am just a week post-op, but no regret whatsoever!!!

    weight training

i am doing some wt training but it depends on the machine how much i lift. i mostly do 3 sets of 10 reps. my arms are weak and i am restricted on how much i can lift while i am healing (6 wks post). i am doing btwn 15 and 40 lbs on most arm exer and 30-45 on my legs. my exer physio at the clinic told me that lifting may not burn as many calories as cardio but that it would burn inches so thats not bad. can you ride a exer bike? that may be one way to get some cardio in. i also have a GREAt pilates dvd that gets my heart goin but most of the exer are on the floor on your back and side, it's the Marie Windsor set and the 20 min workout is fabulous!
  23. So, 19 months post op, after an 85 lb loss and very successful surgery (I have been at goal weight for 9 months), I decided to have a breast lift in both and reduction in one. That happened a week ago and all is well! I posted my story on my blog, so take a look. Most of you know I did a weekly blog for the first year of life after the sleeve and posted faithfully every Sunday. I stopped after a little over a year, but thought this was worthy to share. I thought I would need implants but after some research, found out that a lift and reduction would be best and I am so happy not to have implants! I am almost 60 but for the first time in my life I now have nice breasts! My blog is www.queenofcrop.com I have more details of what happened there and yes, there are photos (that I couldn't post here). Haven't been on the forum for a while so I'm sure there are lots of new people here....hope everyone is having a very successful time of it. The forum was so helpful for me in my first year!
  24. I lost 8 lbs in 2 weeks and my doctor said that was good so 10# in 10 days is fantastic.
