    Are you Sleeve to RNY?

I had my sleeve done in 2017, lost 100 pounds, gained half of that back, and am now looking to have a revision to gastric bypass early next year. Am frustrated I failed the first time around, and that I didn’t go for a bypass in the first place. I’d be interested in joining the group.

    Are you Sleeve to RNY?

What did you find most difficult with the revision? I am going to revise sleeve to bypass 11/22 and would live to hear others experiences.
  4. Y'all need to revise your plans and get back on track
  5. I'm having a revision next week on Thursday Oct 24th. I would take part in this group. Thanks
  6. Was wondering if anyone has had the Overstitch procedure done. I am considering it as I have gained weight back. I am 7 years post-op from gastric bypass. I was told I would only lose approx 20lbs.
  7. Where can we follow your story? Im also getting RNY revision surgery in Nov Sent from my SM-A530F using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. I had a psych eval for my band, which was just talking to a counselor for about 30 minutes and that was it. My psych eval for my revision involved 3 different paper tests having around 300 questions total and then I sat and talked to a psychologist for about an hour. His questions mostly revolved around whether I was a binge eater, emotional eater, what changes I have made to ensure I will be successful in combating boredom eating and bad habits. He also wanted to know what support systems I had in place. He did ask a little bit about my family history and my past, but didn't go into it in great deal. I am currently on an anti-depressant and I was cleared with no problem. While my first eval was much easier than my second one, both evals were pretty relaxed and easy to go through. Some doctors will bring you back for more than one evaluation, so it's possible that could happen with yours. With my most recent psych eval I was warned they usually do three visits, but I was cleared on my first one. Good luck!

    Can't stop losing weight

You’re so sweet! I went to my first HIIT workout post bypass revision and shoulder repair. I wore tiny little booty shorts and would catch myself in the mirror and think damn you look good!! I might have dysmorphia but at least I have moments where I really recognize the loss. When I could see clavicle, chin and definition in my neck I practically peed myself in excitement! The loose skin is starting to be real and it really sucks we can’t get rid of it without paying tens of thousands of dollars. I’d probably be around a size 4 if I didn’t have it!

gabybab--so sorry to hear about the Endoscopy. Please keep us posted on the followup. I hope you will not need a revision, although if you do the procedure should be minimal, right? Or would it be similar to enduring the whole process over again? That would be awful. I feel you about the lines on the face....no one tells you that you will age substantially. I see it in my hands, my forehead, my mouth and especially my neck. Thank goodness turtleneck season is arriving in the Midatlantic!
  11. @JRT Mom It's sad how many people share our same story. I'm sorry it's been such a tough road for you! My doctor was telling me that sometimes the scar tissue under the band gets too tight and they actually have to go in and slice it to release the restriction on the stomach even after the band is already off. I'll be interested in seeing if that is what has happened with mine since I am also unfilled. I am revising to the bypass next week. I never wanted to get the band out, but I realize I really need to take control over my life again. I feel like my band has been in control of me for way too long at this point. Do you know when you'll be revising? I really hope the bypass ends up being so much better for you! Also, I live in NW VA, so howdy neighbor! I had my band done in Richmond, VA, but my bypass is going to be done in Winchester, VA.

    October 2018 Sleevers

My 1 year anniversary is Thursday, and I have an appointment with my bariatric team to talk about what's next/how to move to maintenance. SW: 275 Surgery Date: 265 Doctor's Goal: 165 My Goal: 150 Current Weight: 144 Revised Goal: 130 (ish? Starting to think I may just need skin removal/plastic surgery versus more actual weight loss) I am so pleased with my progress, and am now focused on strength training. Over the course of the last year, I have started working out again, gotten rid of high blood pressure, diabetes (officially in remission now!), and high cholesterol, regained control of my eating habits (this is ongoing- for life!!) and addressed my emotional and binge eating behaviors. I weigh less than my normal-sized husband for the first time since he's known me (15+ years). I affectionately refer to him as "fat", now that he weighs more than me. (He has always been at a healthy BMI and gets a big kick out of being "the fattest one in the family".) I have much more confidence in myself and life in general. Throughout this last year I also got a promotion and big raise at work, and by this time next month, I will have my master's degree in the books. My husband and I are working to purchase a local business (fingers, toes, and hair crossed that things pan out!). I have hope for a long, healthy life with my husband and children.
  13. I totally get not wanting to fuss with selling and moving... and recovering! I'm sure you'll be thankful when you can cross all three things off of your list. I haven't met with the folks from UW yet because my insurance (ETF supplied) presently has a written exclusion on bariatric surgery, so anything would be self-pay and I work in local government, so I'm waiting until January 1 when the new policy kicks in. However, given how lax the requirements are, I'm hoping to have surgery within the calendar year before the change their minds and make surgery nearly impossible (again). I'm not sure exactly what the road to revision will look like, the nurse I spoke to just said that it's a little bit of a different path, but I imagine I will need to do the pre-op diet simply because the Band wasn't a great tool and I'm back to where I started. So, in that respect, I'm thankful that I'll have to go through the classes again--it might not be new info, but it will be good for me to treat it like a new experience (and I suppose it is!). Best of luck on the revision, I'll be anxious to hear how everything goes for you once it's all said and done!

    October 2018 Sleevers

Hey everyone! My 1-year appointment is tomorrow. I've logged in here almost every day and the support has really helped me stay on track. My start weight was 250 and my original goal was 175. I'm now at 169 with a revised goal of 150. I'm very, very happy with how everything has gone and I think I can keep the habits I've established for the foreseeable future and hope to lose more.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Congrats! You look awesome! I, too, worry about sagging skin. I went from I want my breasts and arms done to oh hell no I need my face done. I can tuck the other spots up. My face is showing lines I never had. I have a long way to go (68 pounds) and I'm afraid I will look scary. I'm having a terrible stomach problem and have an endoscopy on the 5th of November. I'm worried I will need a revision. My stomach burns down lower in my stomach and makes me feel nauseated. I had gerd before surgery, so I'm really scared about this. Bonus, I too feel so much better about myself. I just broke the threshold to just obese. lol But having had had a bmi of 54 I will take it. Way to go February friends!
  16. I'm 8 yrs out lapband patient and getting ready to revise to VSG. I am still taking women's multi-vitamins. That's it, nothing else. Continued success on your journey.

    Gastric bypass or sleeve

I had terrible GERD before I had a lap band 10 years ago and it was a miracle cure. The band kept the acid from splashing up my esophagus. Now the band has to come out due to blockage so there's no doubt that my revision will be to a bypass. Many people who NEVER had GERD develop it after a sleeve, and the bypass will eliminate it so that's the route I'm going.
  18. Sorrynametaken, I could have written your post. My story is exactly the same. Mine is also 10 years old, and even with no fill in it I'm struggling to get food down. The barium swallow doesn't show any problems with dilation or slippage, but I still slime and vomit every other meal. I thought it was going to last a lifetime but it's so stressful being hungry but dreading that next meal, and my surgeon thinks the stoma will eventually totally close off so even water can't pass, so I'm having it removed with a revision to a RNY. I know I'll never eat an average size meal again but I'm OK with that as long as I can do so without dread!

    Pre op nausea

Yes, my story is in the revision section. I didn't have to do the whole 14 days, just 4; but I decided on my own to start sooner. I'm glad I did because I have been sick and nauseous ever since. I actually just posted again in the preop diet section. Hope we feel better soon.
  20. Day 1: If you saw my posts in the revision section, then you know last Monday I started my preop diet in preparation for surgery next week. However, I have been nauseated and throwing up since Wednesday. (more nauseous than vomiting) I called the doc and spoke to the nurse who said she would get back with me and hasn't yet. So I decided today I would do liquids just for breakfast and have a small meal for lunch and supper. Breakfast will be: Coffee, protein shake, & water Just as the doctor ordered. My meals will be a meat protein with lettuce and tomato salad. I'm also taking gas-x strips to help move that gas out that's sitting on my stomach. 🤢 Yes, I'm feeling miserable, but I have to shrink this liver before Monday gets here.🙁
  21. I went in thinking I'd be banded for life. That was my plan. However, I have been nauseated and vomiting off and on throughout the year which has made my band slip. Even though I have no saline for the past 8 months, I'm still nauseous. I'm not as big as I was when I was first banded. I don't have acid reflux, my esophagus is fine, however, last year, it was slightly swollen. I am currently prepping my body for this revision surgery I'm having next week. Third Revision...

No judgment sweetie. The OP asked if we had heard of the situation and I was like huh???? No, I haven't. It never occurred to me that some individuals would need a third revision. I'm just shocked that's all. Praying all will go well. [emoji1488][emoji1488][emoji1488] Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. I had a gastric sleeve done in Tijuana a couple years ago but after the initial success I have since gained back about half the weight lost, and am now looking for a revision to gastric bypass (I've done my homework, this is the best option for me). I wish I had done it in the first place, but I at the time I thought a sleeve would be good enough, but it wasn't. In any event, I've been looking at reputable places to go to that don't involve going back to Tijuana. Because I don't live in North America, getting to San Diego is problematic and I would prefer not to have to travel through the States at this time (fly direct to and from Mexico). I've been looking at Puerto Vallarta as an option, but would love to hear other suggestions, since 99% of posts here seem to be for Tijuana. It also doesn't have to be Mexico, anywhere else in the world with reasonable costs and reputable hospitals would be okay too.

    I feel discouraged.

My nutritionist is part of Smart Shape weight loss centers in canada. Specifically for bariatric surgery. Vsg, mini gastric bypass, lap band, and revision surgeries. I would hope she would know.... but I am not so confident. Everyone says follow the plan your dr has you on...... what if you dont want to? I paid almost 20 grand out of pocket to have this surgery....I dont want to fail Sent from my SM-G965W using BariatricPal mobile app

    Gastric bypass or sleeve

I would do bypass simply because I got a sleeve, developed gastroparesis, issues with swallowing and horrible GERD. Suffered at least 18 months before I got bypass revision. It hasn’t been fantastic but no more GERD!! I got sleeve August 2017 and bypass April 4. Wasn’t for weight loss but the above issues. I’ve lost 110 lbs with sleeve, gained 50 on high dose steroids and bypass has helped me lose it and now I’m down 117 give or take from my highest!
