Banded, thinking about revision
gloinva replied to Smarty's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi Smarty, I posted many of the same questions on here about a month ago and never did get answers. I also had the band put in 5/2008 and lost an initial 90 lbs. But the last 2 years my allergies have been worse and besides being plagued with reflux when my band had restriction, I would (watch out TMI) throw up mucus all night from the sinus drainage. Sometimes during the day when it wouldn't allow my food to go down blocking my stoma. I kept off the weight for 2 1/2 years and over the last 6 months have put back on about 15 lbs. So I know how frustrating this band can be. I'm on my liver shrinking diet now with surgery scheduled for 6/20 to get a sleeve when my band is taken out. All in one surgery. I'm worried about any damage all the throwing up has caused my esophagus, reflux and the many bouts with esophagitus I've had over the years. I'm asking if they will scope my throat while in there. And of course worried about any damage all this time and throwing up has caused my stomach where the band is. I was self pay with the band and am again self pay with the VSG and band removal. When I had my band put in I had hoped any additional surgeries would have been cosmetic but all my savings is going into getting this blasted band out of me. I too am post hysterectomy and have just been diagnosed with a hypothyroid (mild cause so far) so I am concerned how this will all affect my weight loss with the sleeve. I'm assuming it will be a constant thoughtful way of eating and exercising to get the rest of my eight off and keep it off. Although I have gained a little of my weight back getting any of it off even with the liver shrinking diet is slow to nill. (Thinking it's the thyroid here that's the problem) But I know that without this sleeve I will surely gain it all back so I'm accepting this TOOL to help me get healthier. I hope this helps you some, and good luck with your decision. Gloria -
So I told a white lie...
Marie from Michigan replied to imawhodat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also told most of my work colleagues that I was having surgery to repair a hernia (which was true). I had been having severe stomach issues related to the hernia in the weeks prior to surgery (TMI Alert - I was leaving meetings to vomit) so this explanation was readily accepted. Only a few people (including my direct supervisor) knew about the WLS. Since I have lost a considerable amount of weight some people might have put the two things together by now. Who knows! -
day 3 after surgery....i know this is probably TMI but i have diarreah. Called Dr Gee and he told me its natural bc of the antibiotics to take some emodium and said to move onto the next stage of eating. So I started with the protein shakes today and plain yogurt.... Feel sick and feverish though....if i feel worse i will be seen tomorrow at the SD clinic....I'm supposed to start back at work tomorrow, but will be taking an extra day to recover....

I know I should probably get this checked if it continues, but I *hate* the ob/gyn and would rather be put in a Russian gulag than go through an exam so I've been sort of watching this bemusedly. Wonder what y'all think. I was having TOM when I got my surgery eleven weeks ago. It was heavy as usual but it stopped, then it came again, stopped again, all regular and rosy. Started again on schedule a little over two weeks ago and I've been on the rag *ever since*. Do you think this is the estrogen factor from losing almost fifty pounds? Is it maybe the massive steroid injection I got four days ago? Anything similar happen to you? Usually my gyn will tell me that all manner of complete strangeness is completely normal, so I lose interest in hanging on the phone talking about my period. But this is a tad outside the lines, even for me. You?

Why do women have anal sex?
Fanny Adams replied to Oregondaisy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hmmm... the toy idea doesn't always work. Fingers, yes! Go slowly, yes YES! But for me, I've never been able to get into toys there. They're just too hard and uncomfortable. My honey is well hung (9" and thick) and I was admittedly terrified at the idea of taking him there at first, although I had had a lot of pleasurable experiences in the past with less endowed guys. But even after 3 years, it still takes me a long while to work up to it with him and I have never like toys as substitutes or preparation, even though I enjoy then in the more usual place. One thing that my love does, that makes all the difference for me, is to hold himself still and ready and encourage ME to take all the control over how far and how quickly I ease into it. It can sometimes take a really long time before I relax enough, but when I do, it's oh boy! TAKE ME NOW!! Probably TMI for most people, but I just wanted to put it out there that toys aren't always the answer. They work for some, but if they don't work for you, that doesn't mean that the whole idea won't work... -
I am out the other side of the menopause now but I spent some time on HRT and this was when I became my fattest. Prior to that I was a long term birth control pill user. When I stopped the pill at 32 I fell pregnant almost immediately which I wasn't prepared for and with twins! In hindsight it was my bodies last shots at reproduction as my menopause started at 35 and was finished at 38. Sadly the hot flushes etc continued so I had to continue the HRT to keep sane. When I had WLS I came off the HRT and my loss was good and predicable. However I started to have other side effects like vaginal atrophication which was horrible so my doctor prescribed hormone pessaries that I use a few times a week and pelvic floor exercises via a lady tens machine. These 2 things have made such a difference, I am now over the hot flushes, taking no oral hormones and all is pretty good down below too, Hope this isn't TMI but I figured it may help someone when they get to the stage of life I am at. Glad I don't have to worry about getting pregnant anymore too!!!

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
roziecakes replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much! I am feeling good today, but honestly, I did NOT sleep well. Lying down was pretty uncomfortable, and I'm generally a side sleeper, which I really wasn't able to do. So I was up and down all night, plus (and sorry for the TMI) I was peeing and peeing and peeing pretty much all night long. I think I got about 3 hours of sleep in, and by 6AM when my mom got up, I gave up. However, I was able to have a full liquid Breakfast, and take a walk with my mom. Almost all my pain is gone today except for some mild shoulder and neck pain. I just feel a little swollen and slightly uncomfortable. I've been sipping Water. I'm truly relieved that I have not had one bit of nausea; and I think I owe it to the Emend pill. I've been enjoying reading other people's surgery stories; it's interesting how many different experiences there are. -

I won't be there for themeeting. Bummer that would be awesome. I won't be home till Sunday. I still take prilosec for acid even though dr Le toldme I could go off of it. I stopped it for a while and felt the same as Lee. So I just take it. I don't mind. I no longer take bp meds, cholesterol meds, and I'm cured of my sleep apnea. it's a great trade off. Oh and sorry if TMI, but before I lost all this weight I would sweat so bad on a trip like this walking around Disneyland all day. But now I feel normal. No more sweating like a stuck hog. Yeah. Lisa -
I dont know if it is still normal or not. But ever since surgery I am very aware of my liver or in the region where my liver is. Here is where the TMI might come in for some. Dont know if i should call doctor or what. Mostly during active moments. Like sex for example. It is very uncomfortable there (where my liver is). First of all I have to put pressure on that area even to function. I dont know if it is just bruised or should I be worried.

I was wondering if any one was really "gassy" before the surgery and how did the surgery impact that? I have always been rather gassy (both ends). Now I understand that some people experience gas after the surgery, but I wonder if anyone had bad gas before the surgery and what happened afterwards.

nraeh So glad you are recovering nicely and had an easy surgery! I got sleeved on Wednesday, June 1st as well! Just got out of the hospital Saturday afternoon (TODAY) and I am feeling pretty good too. Haven't tried a shake yet. Still just doing Clear liquids -- I had two sugar free jell-os tonight along with chicken broth, Vitamin Water zero and an sugar free ice pop! But after only being out of the hospital for 10 hours -- I pooped (sorry for the TMI but I am so proud & excited!). So my digestive system is working a - okay. My surgery went fine but it was delayed getting into the operating room. There were several emergency surgeries that bumped my ELECTIVE procedure. So instead of starting at 11 am they didn't start until 3PM so I was dehydrated going into the surgery. Of course they wouldn't let me even have ice chips until after the esophogram (swallow test) and in a major NYC hospital between the time you take the test, your surgeon gets the results and then actually gives a written order to start the patient on liquids takes way more time than a dehydrated gal wants it to take!!! All that aside every day I feel better. My new tiny tummy is still a bit sensitive. When I ingest anything even water I feel lots of contractions that aren't terrible but I would like them to go away. I need to keep taking the anti-nausea drugs and the PPI. I may try diluting a shake with water tomorrow and see if I can get in some Protein. There is always Isopure -- I broke down and bought three bottles (GRAPE/APPLE-MELON/BLUE RASPBERRY). Like you nraeh -- I am glad to be sleeved and looking forward to starting my journey! EJ

4 days post op, major pain, please help!
falcon posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I am four days post op and while my insicion site gets better every day, the gas pains (I think it's that) get worse and worse. I can barely drink anything and am wondering how long I can survive on 100 calories of protein shake/day plus a few sips of water. The pain is mainly along my esophagus/back/bit of the shoulders. . . . Sometimes I feel like I have to burp but, and I hope this is not TMI, I start to burp and then it just sort of ends in a verrrrrrry painful spasm/hiccup of my esophagus (I think that's what it is)? Is this normal? What can I do about it? And should I worry about the fact that I have consumed maybe 500 calories over the last 4 days combined? Thanks! -
So I had the sleeve April 13th, and things went pretty well, but I was in quite a bit of pain. It was only in the past couple weeks that I was able to start back working out (even though that still makes my ouchie spots pretty sore). I even was able to roll around in the sack with my dear fiance, and only to no avail. It was really painful and we couldn't even finish. Haven't tried since. Went to see my OB and they found a 2 inch cyst on my left ovary. I am having another ultrasound in a month, and if it hasn't gotten any smaller I am going to have another surgery to take it out. They say it's really unlikely that it will get smaller, just will keep getting bigger. I know this type of surgery isn't that big of a deal and probably less painful than what I already had, but still sucks, it will keep me out of exercising and Water aerobics for a while over. Almost feel like i'm starting over. Anybody else had this type of surgery?

Ok this is the first time since surgery that I am having a period that I would call "real". However it is beyond heavy! It started out of the blue yesterday with NO PMS warnings what so ever! It started out heavy and has gotten worse. Like someone turned on a faucet! Here comes the TMI part, I am soaking through a tampon into a pad about every hour, had a gusher at work that required a clothing change. When is too much too much and should I go to urgent care for this? I have no cramps, just the faucet flow. I am thinking my hormones are whacked. Any suggestions on slowing it down? PS,,, I am 47.

Well my dietician emailed me back and it seems that I am on the right track and everything i'm experiencing(small weight gain, increased appetite) is perfectly normal. WHEW!!! I was about to lose it this weekend. so the dastardly scale now lives in the basement in a box is only allowed out on friday morning. I went to the gym for the first time today and i did one mile on the treadmill and one mile on the cross trainer. i'm tryn to work my way back up to a full hour of cardio. It actually felt good to be back in the gym. It seems that walking on the treadmill helps get rid of this gas i'm still struggling with as well. i know TMI! TMI! so i'm hoping it gets out of my shoulder for good! my incisions are healing very nicely, starting to itch a little, but i've started scar massage with mederma. well let me stop rambling. smooches!!!

Ever since i was banded over five and a half years ago, my stomach has been crazy loud and gurgly the miniute I lie down at night. Its not gurgling from food/liquid moving through the stoma, its air in my intestines. DH is banded too and he is the same, we often get into bed at night and laugh at the symphony our guts produce. I cant lie on my back going off to sleep because its so loud and violent it keeps me awake, i have to lie on my side, that quietens it down a bit. Now this may be TMI, but all that air never made it to the rear end, nor did I need to burp. Its kinda like bubbles rising to the surface, because the activity does die down after 20 minutes or so. I have had an ileostomy for the past 6 months and so now I dont, ahem, fart so to speak, but my stoma does - I cant control it or hold it in and since I have had the stoma, all this gurgling starts up and it makes loud, long noises and my bag blows up like a balloon for that 20 minutes! I usually have to get up 3 or 4 times to let the gas out of it, and then it all qietens down and i can go to sleep. But all this only happens when I lie down! It doesnt appear to be related to a full tummy, I dont generally eat at night, its not over-restriction as I have no Fluid at all at the moment, but it doesnt hurt, or cause me any problems and my sleeping partner is my DH of 20 years so I just dont worry about it.

R U EXPERIENCING ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY...SLEEVERS
sunshine6855 replied to ursieursie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love my sleeve even though I am a slow loser. I knew I would eat less but I never comprehended how little 1/2 cup of food total really is. I get full fast. If I eat too fast I get too full and it is very uncomfortable for a couple of hours. Eat slow! I have really bad reflux. They tell me it goes away after about 6 months. I sure hope so. The meds work though. Very, very little pain with surgery and I had my gall bladder taken out also. Someone on this board said to never trust a fart. I cannot tell you enough how true that is ...TMI I can drink as much as I want as fast as I want. I was afraid I would be forever sipping but that was just a week or two. -
R U EXPERIENCING ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY...SLEEVERS
kdc replied to ursieursie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been very happy with being sleeved. I've lost 81 lbs since December 28th. I did have some problems with getting lightheaded...I think it was a consequence of my blood pressure going down. I hated the protein shakes, but I know that's just me. The only other bad thing that I've had going on is that I've had diarrhea since the surgery. I know that is probably TMI, but it's probably been the biggest problem I've had. I suspect this isn't normal at all and just a problem that I personally have. I've been referred to a GI doctor. That being said, I don't regret anything! Good luck!!!! -
Anyone know of Dr De Bruyne Chris
FattyPatty replied to susanlondon's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hello All So I went and had my 2.5ml defill on Thursday, to take me back down to just 5mls ready for hols and to get some nutrients and vitamins back in ready to start Fertility treatment hopefully. Chris Deprez was delighted with my loss to that point but said I should not have left it that long of being able to hardly eat and being so sick and sliming all the time. However, I now have absolutely no restriction at all, and whilst I haven't gone mad on the food front, just being able to actually eat and drink and keep it down, I have been feeling rotten since Thursday with huge bloated gurgling gas filled tummy, have been going to toilet 3 or 4 times a day, which is a shock in itself after only going once every week and a half to fortnightly for the last 6 months. (Sorry TMI) Thursday night I couldn't sleep as was doubled over with trapped wind that Rennies, windeez and motilium would'nt shift, and I am burping for England just like the early days, but more guttingly the scales have gone up 6lbs!!! I have lost my comfort blanket of the band, and having the sickness which I know sounds wrong but it does keep in you check, and I think I have made a mistake having the defill. Hoping that some of you that have had defills for holidays may be able to reassure me that this is just my body adjusting to food again and will settle, as I am so uncomfortable and I defo can't afford to start piling on the lbs especially with the Fertility appointment coming up which we had only just got after finally shifting the weight. I know I need to try very hard on my own and make the right food choices but as we know I couldnt do this on my own before which is why I had the band! feeling a bit glum and teary this morning (I'm hormonal as well which doesnt help) but I'd got used to waking up in the morning and feeling sticky out ribs and hip bones and completely dipped in belly before leaping delightedly on the scales but this morning I feel like a little rounded barrell and want to smash the scales. Sorry for rant C x
