I Know I'm Not Supposed To Compare...

Put on an old pair of pants that were tight to remind yourself how far YOU have come. Look at some of the NSV that you have had. I am a low-bmi having surgery soon and I'm worried about the same thing. I have a friend who had surgery and lost alot of weight quickly and she will be the person to comment on how slow I am loosing. You are loseing. You've lost alot. You've come a long way. Keep it up. Compare yourself to where you would have been if you did't have the surgery. And...Be sure to remind me of all of this when I'm having the same problem. good luck.

Small NSV -- But I'll take it!

When I would buy a new Harley shirt I almost always bought a mens because I refuse to look like a stuffed sausage on the back of the bike. I now have a wardrobe of really good Harley night shirts to sleep in and bum around the house because they look like dresses otherwise. It sure feels good doesn't it Good for you on your NSV! That first "wow it's really working" is actally a bit more than a small NSV...you go girl! YAY FOR YOU! Skye And....who cares if folks think you look silly dancing into the store in your Sturgis dress :grouphug: you feel good....you look good....you are doing GREAT!

    Non scale victories

my NSV is fairly small, being that i'm only 4 days out from surgery. BUT... prior to surgery I was taking 10 prescription pills a day, and today I am down to one-half of one pill. WHOO HOO!!!!!!!
  6. I was honored to be invited to be the matron of honor in my friends wedding. I was pre-op when she asked me and actually I was nervous about it because I didn't have insurance approval yet and I wasn't comfortable in my own skin. Well I had the surgery and 2 weeks later we went to look at dresses. I tried a size 16 and it would only zipper about 1/2 way, knowing I would be losing weight I bought a 14. I am pleased to say that it fit relatively comfortably tonight, I am so beyond excited. I have 8 weeks to the wedding and I'm hoping it will need some alterations but I won't be greedy! This is the best feeling I have had in a very long time

    Glad U Did It?

If you do a search, you will find complications, because this is usually always listed in the title. If you search positive results, hardly anything comes up because we post it in all types of ways like: NSV (non-scale victories), before and after, 4 mos post op, halfway to goal, got my life back, etc. Additionally, you won't see many of us bragging about no complications as there are some (not a lot) that do. My point is, the majority of us never had complications, but you'd never know otherwise unless you asked like you did with this post. This is why this forum is so important. It's here to support, motivate, encourage and answer each others questions. So, having said all this I'm glad you asked and here is my answer: I've had zero complications and I was a band to sleeve revision all done in one procedure. I had more scar tissue and more of a chance of complications. I've had none. I'm 4 mos post op today and have lost 52 lbs. (48 to goal) and like the others have already said, my only complaint is that I didn't do it sooner. Be sure to research your surgeon thoroughly. You may find others on this site who have used him/her. This would be another great search or new thread to start to find out from someone else who actually used your surgeon. If you don't have one, ask for recommendations for the area you live in. This site is full of information, but don't just read the bad stuff. There are a lot of great things on this site to learn and be encouraged by. Good luck with your decision!

    Suprise NSV

Today I wore one of my favorite pair of jeans to work (which are a size 20) and when I came home I took my dog for a walk. It's pretty mild here right now and all the snow is melting so there were a lot of puddles and the bottom of my pants got wet. When I came home, I was looking for a dry pair of jeans and tried on a pair of my girlfriend's size 16 jeans, and they fit..... and looked good. I might not give them back to her!

    Out Of Prison/sounds Funny?

Great NSV John. I never walk around with out my shirt either, can't blame you lolol I can totally relate, I don't even wear shorts b/c of my jiggly legs. I would sooner sweat like a pig than wear shorts or any shirt that show's my arms. I'm glad you are where you are today and mostly that you are mentally feeling on cloud 9. Yesterday DH, DD and I went to a little dinner. This one old woman stared me up and down and watched my every move squeezing into the booth. I said to my DH... oh wonderful, wicked witch of the east is sizing me up. I couldn't even enjoy my meal b/c I felt scrutney in the other booth. I just wish people would mind their own business for crying out loud. You are NOT the only person who feels like this. CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU !!!!
  11. I bought a jacket in 2005 from the Big/Tall store. Size 3X. Never could wear it buttoned but it was on sale then for like $40. Broke it out this season planning to wear it open as usual. IT BUTTONS AND STILL HAS ROOM TO SPARE! Granted it is a 3X but now it is a little big. First time I have seen a real change in my clothing. Then I decided on some things I would like to work on. If I can work with my weight there are other things I want to tackle: 1) Eliminate ALL soda consumption - It costs too much and can hurt the band in the long run. 2) Whiten my teeth - Stopping soda and making better food choices can help this. It's like an extra benefit to my better lifestyle. It doesn't make much sense to be smaller and more appealing and smile in the picture with yellowish teeth. 3) Exercise more - I have been really bad lately because of my schedule. I feel like I can run a marathon I just haven't been able to make it to the gym. I am very excited about spending Saturday walking around Chicago. 4) Better skin - Water keeps skin hydrated so its another plus of drinking more water again. And I plan on sporting sleeveless shirts and my tattoss on vacation in a few months. So some small muscles and tan skin would be great. I have always covered up 100% because I hated what was under. So the motto from now on is "lose weight and look great."

    weight loss after surgery

I would never be considered a quick loser, but seeing as this is a LIFE LONG change, I'm totally ok with that. Try not to compare yourself to others, and DEFINITELY don't sell yourself short!! You CAN ALWAYS do so much more than you ever dreamed possible!!! I'm living proof of that. Celebrate your losses and be proud of your journey. Take photos of yourself, before an durings, keep measurements, keep logs of all your NSV's... these will brighten your day when the scale is being a poopy butt. Good luck!!!

    Tomorrow is the day!

That wasn't me, but that is the most awesome thing ever. Band Jovi! Haha!! Love it. Good luck with the surgery! You are going to be hitting those NSVs before you know it!!

My 1st NSV and I am not even banded yet!!!

To say I am very proud of myself is to put it mildly. Yesterday, after the call from my surgeon's office about his fee, due tomorrow at my Pre-Op, I cried most of the day, stayed pretty depressed, but stayed determined it would all work out. I have to claim my 1st NSV!!!! In any high stress situation, I always turn to food. I am so proud to say that last night, I stayed on my pre-op diet and did not let food control my emotions. That is a major step for me. One I will have to continue on forever!!! Pre-Op tomorrow, Surgery 10/8! I can not wait!!!:thumbup:

    girl gone mad

Hi - I agree 100% - STOP weighing yourself every single day - you will go crazy doing that -- the body naturally retains fluids and fluctuates A LOT during a week's time -- some people do NOT even weigh themselves more than once a month at their doctor's office--- my 'first' few weeks when I joined LBT I weighed daily to get into a routine of good eating and exercising - but now it is just once a week -- I'll also bet your clothes are getting bigger despite the fact that the scale doesn't change....that has happened to me and I've learned to look for NSVs (non-scale victories)instead of the scale number -- best of luck to you on your weight loss quest! New Member,8 Month Post Op!

This forum is an excellent place to be. Very helpful and inspiring... Please take a minute or ten and share some of your experiences with us...seasoned sleevers are an important tools for the newbies...and the newbies help remind us to stay motivated We use a term here - NSV "Non-scale Victory"...would love to hear about some of yours. it's anything not scale related that was a goal or a "win" or an unexpected benefit... Great progress and keep it up!

    New Goal

You can for sure do it!! I hit Onederland about two months ago and it's a crazy amazing NSV. You can totally do the 5K by then. I used the 5K Runner app on my phone and the voice talks you through the training while you are listening to Pandora radio. I highly recommend it. And don't feel pressure to jog the whole thing, I did 1/2 and 1/2 and that was HUGE for me. It all counts =)

    NSV on the scale!!

today I had a great moment....I had an NSV on the scale. How is that possible? Our digital scale didn't weight anything over a certain weight. I hopped on it just for poops and giggles and it worked! There was no error message to make me feel like crap today and there will never be that day again. I havent been able to weight myself on our home scale in 3 years. Not only did I have that amazing NSV I was also down 3 more pounds. Such a great day!!
  20. Yesterday morning, my DH looked at my stomach (I was in bed, lying flat on my back) and said something like "WOW. Your stomach is hardly there. It used to mound up lots higher." :bananajump: :Banane20:

    I have an Addiction...

I don't know what I'd do without it! But I have a question: what's NSV? Don't laugh at me!
  22. My doc is a no-coffee doc, too--and I thought it might be the end of me! But I've been coffee-free since December. To tell you the truth, I haven't missed it much. Once I got through the initial withdrawal, it was smooth sailing. I've enjoyed the extra $$, too. I used to be a daily (or twice-daily) fixture at my local Starbucks. They know me by name, and would start making "my" drink when they saw my car pulling in. A couple of weeks ago, I met a friend there, and after I placed and received my order, the barrista looked at me and said, "I know I know you!" It was THE BEST feeling--made giving coffee up MORE than worth it. I'd lost so much weight since the last time I was in that she didn't recognize me; she recognized my voice, and knew there was something. And of course, once I told her who I was, she realized it. But man, that was an NSV if there ever was one. Giving up those lattes (even though they were the skinny sugar-free, fat-free ones) helped me get where I am now.
  23. It has taken me a year to lose 70 of the 100 pounds I need to lose. Don't worry so much about average. Go to this link to see some non-scale victories to watch out for. It is a long thread, but will give you an idea of more meaningful ways to observe your success. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/276681-how-about-some-nsvs/?hl=%20nsv
  24. My first one is even though i haven't lost weight since surgery (11 days post op) i have lost three inches in my belly. What about you guys?
  25. The obvious answer is go back to basics.....original protein/fluid/carb goals. Go back to measuring and tracking if you've stopped. Basically whatever you did to lose those 164 pounds the first time is what you have to do again. I was run over by a tractor and shattered my pelvis and femur when I was just shy of 3 years postop. Was in the hospital for a month and gained 10 pounds on the carb heavy food they served. Went home in a wheelchair and transitioned to a walker over several months. I was extremely depressed over being so helpless. I had stopped seeing my therapist about 6 months earlier but went back to regular visits to help me with my depression so those 10 pounds didn't turn into 100. So if you aren't seeing a therapist, I suggest finding one. In the meantime work on finding your motivation. Dig up old photos of the "before" you. Sit down and make a list of your NSVs. What can you do now that you couldn't do 164 pounds ago? How do you feel? If you don't want to go back to the old you, pull up your skinny girl panties and do what you know you need to, and can do again.
