  1. Hang in there! My dietition suggested including a variety of 'textures' in the liquid phase. She said that the mouth (and brain) are bored by the same textures and tastes when used over and over. I am still trying to work out exactly what she meant but If you can try some alternative textures through fruit juices and shakes and even Soups - perhaps that will help. Experimentation helps, is all I can say (10 days of liquid to go!). Kristen

PMS'ing and irriated by whine bags

Before I was banded, the whining on here sometimes got on my nerves a bit.... but then since I've been banded (10 days postop)... I've done my share of whining! Not on here.... mostly to myself. This is a total life changing thing. Those of us that have used food in fun, sadness, recreation, boredom, heck, food was pretty much involved in all I've ever done.... it's a big BIG wakeup call when you can no longer have it that way. My "crutch" has been kicked out from under me and it is HARD! I'm still not quiet at the point that I'm "Happy" I did this... but I'll get there. Changing a bad habit is hard.... I think it would be easier if I could go "cold turkey"...but we gotta have food, calories, protein to live and be healthy. So it's hard having to change the way you look at your addiction while still having to consume it. Is it worth it? It will be. Am I worth it? YES! Will I get there? A baby step at a time. We will have success as long as we keep moving forward. One pound at a time...

    Loss of enegry

3 months whew!!! I am only 2 weeks out I can't imagine another 10 weeks of this. I try to get enough sleep at night but I have to take naps. I understood the first few days because it was fresh maybe I am rushing. I might need to learn how to chill
  6. Hi, just wanted everyone out there to know about my lap band surgery experience. I was banded in Tijuana on March 7 at the Molding Clinic. My niece and I went together. The whole experience was absolutely great. Andres was so much help from the time we scheduled surgery until we left! The clinic is beautiful and the labs we went to were immaculate. I was so impressed with the whole surgical team. Dr. Huacuz performed our surgery. He did a wonderful job and followed up with us for the next two days to make sure everything was going well. A nurse stayed with us the first night all night long and was at our side at the least little movement we made. I had an IV that made history for me! The nurse did such a great job that when it was removed I couldn't even tell where it had been. This has NEVER happened before, usually very bruised and sore. I have lost 10 pounds already. How exciting!! I would not hesitate to recommend the Molding Clinic to anyone!

I have had to have the surgery post poned once all ready because I didn't make it, i have been trying and the Dr. now sees if I lose another 8lbs I can have it done. But I'm having problems with that as I can't take the medifast as I have a very senstive stomach and it has only been coming of at about 1lb a week. i have explain this to the Dr and she says you need to lose it or postpone and they are no help on how to lose. Any suggestions on how I can bost my weight loss quickly??? I have been on a lean and green diet for 8 weeks and it is getting really old an i need to lose this last 8 lbs in then next 2 wks as I have been rescheduled for Oct 21st. 10. I can honestly say my only current depression comes from my weight, maybe that was not true in the past but I have been extremely happy the past 3 years in every other aspect, newly married in October 2013 to a wonderful man, and we just had a baby last August, he's also adopting my 10 year old daughter now, everything is good and just what I wanted in my life. I do have ups & downs from bipolar disorder, but the main thing that causes that even is the way I let my appearance and weight issues consume me :-/ I have started seeing a therapist to address any underlying factors, emotional eating, etc..and to help me thru this process. In the meantime, I did decide today to start trying the preop diet now, I am told I should be able to have the surgery within a month so I don't want to sit around doing nothing about my weight and being more depressed as I wait. Thanks for the advice and understanding in general though...every little bit helps, whether other situations are different or not.

    new bander

Hi all, I received my band on the 4th of July with Dr. Aceves. I am feeling well so far. I do have the left shoulder and back pain but hopefully that will go away. I have lost 10 pounds to date. It is amazing the amount of support that I see here. I look forward to being a part of that!

    Stay at home Mom

Yes. I have a 2 year old son. I took 2 weeks off as well. You cannot lift more than 10 lbs for the first 2 weeks, so be careful. It's hard for the 2 year olds to understand. I constantly told my son about Mommy's boo boos. I even showed him the incisions. He started to understand and then would ask to see the incisions. He was very careful around me. Good luck!

    Still uncomfortable

Still not Fixed Up, ready to cater my Own Pity Party, I am losing much hopefulness about the whole Proceeding. And yesterday by accident? I never lost conciousness during the attempt, didn't hurt, had numbing medicine sprayed in the back of my throat that you gargle and then swollow down, stated I would be going to sleep-*- *well I laid there and watched on the monitor just like Dr Noria did. Asked the 2 other doctors, the nurse and most of all, Dr Noria? Did you guys realize I remained awake? Dr Noria got a look on her face like a child caught taking a swipe off the top of a freshly frosted cake and licking her fingers **Changed the subject, said" I dialated you to 10 mm", sounds good until you realise before first attempt I was at 9 mm.Progress IDK, do you? And I am at 7+weeks, a point where many, if not, all of my Surgery Day twins, Sleeve or RNY, are on purees and transitioning to soft and regular foods. Yeah ***I know we ALL make our journey toward final health, final size and weight goal, and a Bee-You-tee-full Future but OMG do I even have one? Someday I will be the scrawniest, sad-looking old broad seen, carting a thermos of bone broth or something similar. And watching the rest of the WLS community bouncing by happily. I expected hard, difficult but Mount Everest, Mount Denali even Kilimanjaro all in one, Nope didn't book for that?🎢🌆
  15. i was banded 12/19/08. and up till july i had really good weightloss. infact at 5.5cc i thought i was at my "green zone" because i had good weightloss and fantastic restriction. at the end of july i lodged a tomato in my band and have to have the fluid removed. since then we've been trying to fill me back to getting good restriction and at least a little weightloss. i've managed to hit 90lbs, however since july it's probably only been like 10. they got me back up to 5.8 cc and yet still not very good restriction and despite continued efforts in the exercise department, i couldn't lose weight then for some odd reason my band swelled shut. they again removed all my fluid, that was in december right at my bandiversary. they did an upper gi, my band hasn't moved, the pouch is still the same size, and according to my surgeon there's no reason why i shouldn't get good restriction without over filling. so i now have 2cc in there and again no restriction. i mean i guess i have it, but once i feel satisfied, i'm hungry again in 2 hrs tops. i guess my question is, has anyone else had this problem?? will i ever go back to losing good again??? i've got another 40 pounds i'd really like to lose, and i need my tool, this little monster inside me, that's supposed to be my helping hand to get back into gear and help!
  16. Every month I was at a different rate. There were months where I lost 10 lbs and months where the scale only moved a pound or two. Although we all say you can't compare to others, we all still do it. I would support everyone in trying to see the big picture. When I looked at my loss month to month it drove me insane. I now look back and think, "Wow! Without my band I would be even bigger!" Life is good, no matter how slow I lose today!

    need advise...

Its all relative. If you're losing weight whilst eating that, then you dont need a fill! It really is a misuse of what the band is meant to do, aiming to fill and fill and fill until you cant eat more than half a cup or cant eat a certain food. The band is actually meant to decrease your appetite and increase satiety - YOU have to do all the rest of it yourself. Which means avoiding bread if you dont want to eat it, not making yourself so tight that you cant eat it. However, it is common not to be able to eat bread. Look at it this way - I currently have no fill and can easily eat an entire two bread sandwhich full of salad fillings. I could also eat several Cookies after that - but I most of the time I choose not to. I have not gained any weight in 2 months unfilled and am currenly at a BMI of only 19. Do I need a fill? If you're losing weight on ten pieces of bread a day then dont sweat it. Weight loss is what matters, not choking yourself off until you cant eat. However if your loss is very slow, or has stopped and you're doing everything else right but not feeling that satiety where a meal lasts you a good couple of hours, then its fill time. But dont judge it on what foods you can or cant eat. I could eat bread with my band 3/4 fill, with no problem at all - but yogurt, ugh. Impossible. Its different for everyone.

    should I get a fill?

Hi Sharona Thanks for replying. I have never asked how much I have in my band but I will ask when I see him on tues. I have the small inamed 10 ml band. I agree that I feel as though I am still able to eat too much at a meal however I also like the fact that I can pretty much eat everything (as in still eat bread and meat) but I will discuss all of this and my concerns about possibly getting over-filled with my doc.

    should I get a fill?

Hi Queen of Hearts. Thanks so much for your reply. I just went through all of my papers, I have a 10 ml inamed band. I will talk some more to my doc on tuesday. My weight loss is excruciatingly slow at the moment so I am leaning towards getting another fill. many thanks
  21. I'm female, 42, 5ft 10, very active (run or do boot campe 5 x per week, work as a teacher, on my feet all day) and I ate around 1500 a day to lose. I think you might be UNDER eating, but really, you've lost a LOT and it does slow down and become very stop start. Just keep at it and eventually it will start coming off again. It took me an entire year to lose the last 10lb. I guess I could have eaten less, but I was happy enough at the higher weight, and I'm very active and now I can eat whatever I want without gaining so I'm really glad that I've obviously preserved lean body mass and have a healthy metabolism.
  22. Ok, so I am on day 10 of the liquid pre-op diet. I had lost 15 lbs. as of yesterday. Today, when I weighed, I had gained a pound!! How in the world could this happen?!?!?! I have been eating (drinking) the same things through this entire pre-op diet. If anything, I have started eating less as the days go on. I have gotten tired of my limited choices. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be going on? I am being banded on Monday!!

    Frustration

I was also banded on the 19th of February. The first week I lost 10 lbs and was so so very excited. Unfortunately, this last week I have only lost 1 lb. I am also discouraged that the weight is not coming off faster while only eating 600-800 calories a day. I was on the smaller end of weight going into surgery so I know the weight won't fall off as fast, but come on...1 lb a week!
