  1. My program and surgeon suggested I make my own protein shakes. And since day 5 I have had zero artificial protein. My program calls it a set point smoothie but its just plain greek yogurt, spinach and add a fruit of your choice. I added strawberries and blue berries. Make it runny if your early out or still on liquids. If you youtube Dr. Matthew Weiner that is where you can learn about the set point smoothies and protein shakes.
  2. I recently had avocado and nuts in yogurt and was definitely getting side eye from people ...

    Need help week 5

Thank you so much for replying! I’m afraid I’ve developed a lactose intolerance after my surgery. I did just mix my own Isopure shake and that does seem to be better. I’m going to try a Greek yogurt for lunch and see how that feels. I guess I just need to dial everything waaaaayyy back.

    November 2018 Sleevers!?!?

My surgery is tomorrow, November 1st. I was on 12 days of Premier Protein shakes and 2 Greek yogurt and all the clear liquids I want. I have been on clear liquids only yesterday and today. Feeling nervous, but really glad the day is just about here.

    Hunger feelings/confusion after surgery

At one week I was drinking protein shakes, sugar free popsicles, jello, maybe a few bites of yogurt. No way thinking of getting a chicken bowl. Call your surgeons office or doctor cause your food plan is nothing I've ever heard one week after surgery. Sent from my Z970 using Tapatalk

Starting stage 3 tomorrow and need recipe help

Same here - no recipes. I’m about to finish my fifth week and just now trying chicken and composed meals. And they go down but with a little bit of a fuss. I ate/eat: Yogurt, apple sauce, soups, refried beans, avocado, soft bananas, smoothies (careful with berry seeds), ground turkey (not beef or chicken) cooked in broth/liquids or sugar free pasta sauce, turkey lunch meat, mashed cauliflower, soft pears, soft beans, turkey and white bean chili from whole foods, egg whites (tummy didn’t like eggs until this week), tuna salad without celery or onions, egg salad - as simple as possible. I didn’t have sensitivity to a normal amount of spices but I tried some chicken & turmeric soup and my whole body rejected it. Hope this helps!

    I don't think I'm ready ):

@RHCD. I love to cook and bake, too. Are you experimenting in your kitchen laoratory to redo recipes to make them "approved" for your new lifestyle? I have been adding collagen hydrolysate protein to most things, subbing applesauce for all or part of the oil required in recipes, and using less sugar and my own version of Zing - 1 cup sugar + 2T Sweetleaf stevia gives the equivalent of 2 c sweetness. 1/2 t = 8 calories. Also working with cottage cheese in recipes, too, blended smooth. Really adds a lot of protein, about the same as using greek yogurt. It's an adventure!

    October 2018 Sleevers

Just reporting in. I had my surgery 10/15. My doctor did it through my navel as I requested and I will have no scars or marks (I know they are tiny anyway). I spent 2 nights in the hospital and a very painful first week. The second week I worked from home and resumed some activities like washing my hair and being human. I'm tolerating lots of foods like mushed avocado, mashed potato, hummus, yogurt, and protein drinks. And since I know a lot of people wonder about going back to work, 2 weeks later I am at my desk job, tired but doing fine. My only stall far was constipation related, I think. Considering all we go through to do this, I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

    Protein protein protein

I had good luck with mashed potato, refried beans, oatmeal, pea soup, poached fish, egg, and a lot of protein drinks. In the early stages, I found that the toddler meat sticks were really gentle on my stomach. They're made with poultry and whey and are a good texture to move through and not get stuck. Skim milk and greek yogurt worked. I especially liked the whipped yogurt...it was light and fluffy. In the beginning, you do whatever you can tolerate. Your dietitian should have some great ideas.

    July Sleeve

Same here my NP and NUT told me I shouldn't be worried about calories as of now and probbly not until about 6 months out. Just stay focused on Protein intake and water. I am hitting around 800 as of right now but it's mostly from adding things like PB2, banana or yogurt to my protein shakes.

    Social outings suck now

Thank you for the suggestions! I wound up bringing pumpkin spice yogurt to the Halloween party I went to last night. Everyone else loved it, I hated it! Lol Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. I’m with you on this I am halfway through week 1 post op on liquids, just so thankful my doc allows SF yogurt and SF pudding for a little variety, still tough though. Can’t wait for purée lol!!
  17. I was wondering what the stages/phases look like for different surgeons? I was not required to do a pre-op diet just clear liquids the day before. I had my bypass on Wednesday. Feeling satisfied and not hungry just my brain missing my usual snacks. I am on a liquid/puree mix this week. I can have the usuals for liquids but I can also have yogurt, FF cream soups and SF puddings. I bought isopure unflavored whey protein and add it to my decaf coffee in the morning. Then a triple 0 yogurt for snack, another decaf coffee with whey protein, 1/4 pudding with whey protein, then another shake for dinner. I’m supposed to get another snack in but by then I’m so full! I have been getting between 60-70g protein per day, is that enough? I am looking forward to more variety like scrambled eggs, chicken salad and cottage cheese but they aren’t added to my diet until after my 1st post op appt on Wednesday. Can’t wait!

    Social outings suck now

I dragged some friends out on a walk with me today. Then we went to a coffee shop. (I know this doesn't solve the "bars aren't fun" problem, which I'll get to in a moment, but it is a suggestion about how to get in some socializing on your own terms.) I haven't been to a restaurant or a party-party, yet; there's been food at a couple of places I've gone, but it hasn't really been hard to avoid, yet. I'm hoping maybe I can hold off on any event that's too food-heavy until, if there's something I really want to eat, I can have a bite of it without endangering my healing stomach. (I am not going to be one of those hardcore diet deprivation folks you see on here. Not judging them--if anything, I'm impressed by their fortitude--but just being realistic about myself. "I can have exactly one bite of the very tasty thing, and I will enjoy the crap out of that bite" is just a better way for me, personally, to live my life.) Also, raw veggies are the one really healthy thing you can generally rely on finding at parties, and I know those are a ways off for us, yet. Failing the "delay" plan, though, I would probably be inclined to bring something I can have, that others might also like. BananaTummy suggests that her Mandarin Greek Yogurt is a hit at parties: http://www.bananatummy.com/2011/04/greek-yogurt-mandarin-yogurt-sweet/ And I can imagine that this custard would also be a hit (when I used part Splenda, part xylitol, nobody could tell it wasn't sugar): https://www.bariatriceating.com/2015/04/egg-custard-perfect-bariatric-food/ Hummus, which I am absolutely enough of a barbarian to put on my plate and eat with a spoon

Two and a half days post op

Sugar free popsicles are a lifesaver :) also triple zero yogurt when you’re ready
  20. No my b. staff wanted it because it could be sprinkled on what you're eating, don't try soup, that was my mistake last pm, spent hour , hour and half puking, it is Bitter-tasting. Might be okay in applesauce, cottage cheese, maybe yogurt, those last 2 I do puke up. I believe( someone correct me if I am in error) all of these are extended release, by opening capsules your stomach gets the benefit instead of your intestines farther down., And @Ronnysgal if you want to pho, ehow my October 26th attempt went, tell me, I really hate boring people all the time.

    Weight gain!!

Are you currently eating low or no fat items such as yogurt, milk etc? If you are then switching back to the full fat varieties could be a good place to start. You won't be eating any more and if you find you gain too much its easy to switch back again.

    September bypass buddies??

I haven't yet but I have a recipe for a soup that I love so I'll make a pot of that tonight. I simply have no interest in eating anything I might try going back to blended and liquids again for a few days to see if that sparks an interest in food. It's just really odd to me, that for over 40 years I've been addicted to food but it's like I'm not only cured of the addiction but the "drug" I used to love repulses me now. I'm sure it's just a phase, but I really don't want to make myself ill by not eating anything. So... soup, yogurt and some I'll try some beans. Thanks very much for your suggestions. My partner tries to help but he just doesn't get the fact that my tastebuds have changed so dramatically in the past month that everything tastes bad. I'm even off coffee!

    September bypass buddies??

I’m feeling a lot like you. So far the ONLY things I can eat besides liquids like chicken broth is refried beans, yogurt and cottage cheese. I tried cod the other night and it felt horrible. Tried chicken that made me nauseous. This is getting harder. 🙄. I am sticking to liquids and blended for now

    September bypass buddies??

I can eat 5.5 oz of yogurt without any issues. I can drink at least one or two protein shakes a day and I am trying to drink my water. I am still having trouble introducing more solid foods. I have been successful with one or two pieces of canned vegetables.
