    Hi I'm New!

Thanks for the welcome! Kim...that is so great to hear someone else going to Dr. Roye! I'm going to have a ton of questions for you! I did have my appointment today, it went well. They are suposed to be contacting Blue Cross tomorow, and she said we will hopefully hear back in a few days to a week. She said she's pretty sure I'll be covered just fine, since I have some issues due to my weight. I definatly don't like driving to RIH though, I got lost, went into the wrong parking garage, and drove around for 10 minutes waiting to find a spot! Auuh I hate driving in Providence! I did get the small ammount of info that she gave me today, which most of it I already knew. I did have one question, what the heck is the phsych evaluation for? What do they do? And also, what is the pre-op diet like for him? Thanks!!

    Stats Before Banding

298 5'9" BMI 44 No Co's I had Blue Cross at the time. Once my paperwork was finally taken off someones desk-they "lost" it- Approvale took a couple weeks. I started as Morbidly Obese, and I'm about 10 lbs away from being merely Overweight. Best Decision I have ever made
  3. I'm pre pre op diet. I've been trying really hard to make the healthy changes now. Right now I have such a craving for chocolate. I read some where a craving only lasts 19 minutes but this has lasted a few hours! Someone tell me awful things will happen if I give in. I even had a chocolate Protein shake but that didn't help.

    On my way

Hey we are neighbors. Well the dr calling may be a good thing, that is when I'm planning on having my surgery. And the thing you said about the race is what our pastor said today in his message. 4-19. And it doesn't matter how you start out but how you finish, so hang in there and you are in my prayers and thank you. As for self pay we are using some savings and having to save the rest. I told my husband I didn't want to take that much money away from the kids and family, and his response was money now or you for another 10-15 years. I still have mixed feelings about it and then there is the added pressure of all this. I have failed at every weight lose thing I have tried and now this much money and what Im taking away from my family, I just pray this is the right thing to do. I know that the only way I will get through it is by the grace of God.
  5. So, I'm curious what you all lost on the preop liquid diet (I'm doing 10 days starting next week) and in the first 2 weeks post op. Partially pure curiosity and partially because I'm supposed to get fitted for new uniforms at work tomorrow and I'm wondering if I should just tell them to make a size smaller than I am now. I wont be into the new ones until after I come back from surgery. Surgery should be 9th (tentative), returning to work the 26th.
  6. Hi, I suggest opening up to your family and tell them how they are making you feel. It's your life and you are the one who has to live it. You are old enough to make your own decisions. If they cannot be happy for you and only bring negativity into your life you then you should pull away and do what's best for YOU and your family. I'm sorry you are going through this. I truly hope they realize how negative they are being.at the end of the day, your life is your business. 5'4" Starting weight 297 VSG on 7/31/19 Surgery wt: 266 CW 233 GW 135 Sent from my [samsung Galaxy] using BariatricPal mobile app

    Eating more

I'm now 10 mths out and have recently noticed the ability to eat more at night only. Before 7pm, I can still keep it under control. When I'm lying in bed, watching tv is when I snack and I can eat ALOT now. Still managing to maintain, but would like to lose another 10 lbs. Gotta do something soon...
  8. I'm 4 weeks out and our family vacay is in 10 days. I was wondering if i can ride the rollercoasters rides/Get in the pool/ocean???

    Gastric Bypass

TY So much for your helpful information...walking right now kills my knees and thighs. But I will try 5-10 minutes a few times a day.
  10. 10 lbs in 7 days is nice but not really healthy, unfortunately. And not a comfortable way to do it either. The sleeve was made available less than a year after I had my second band installed. But I didn't know it at the time or I might have waited. Oh well, no turning back time. I'm just going to go forward with the sleeve and hope for the best!

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet

Thank you so much for your responses. I think I will be ok as well since I am still 10 days out from my surgery. I will check with the nutritionist tomorrow just to make sure. It sure is nice to be able to talk with people who have been through the pre-op diet already! Thanks again!

    Starting My Journey

I to am just starting my journey. I have finished all my pre-op testing and now am just waiting for my surgery on 12/19/12. I've told several girls I work with and they are all very supportive and understand why I'm doing it; my husband, however, is a different story. He loves me the way I am, and is afraid of the "dying on the table" risk, but he also understands why I'm doing it. After all, if he loves me that much he should want me around longer right? lol Just remember you are doing this for YOU, not anyone else. Keep your eye on the prize and you'll get there for sure. Anyway, good luck on your journey and can't wait to hear about your victories..

    10/29/09 Happy Weight

I used the Happy Weight Calculator and it says my goal weight is 129, about 5 pounds less thant he goal I set for myself. My labband doc didn't set a goal weight, but my back surgeon did. I have three herniated disks in my back and he said I would need to lose 100 pounds before I tried to get pregnant. Before surgery I was 247, now I'm 206. Getting there.....I too set mini goals of 10 pounds. I am at my sweet spot, I can eat a few bites of most things and then I'm done. As long as it follows the high protein guidelines. If it's not high protein and a slider my "inner fat chick" comes out and I eat too much and still never feel full. I'm with you xavier, single digit sizes, here we come.

    Starting Over Again

Yeah mine requires 6 consecutive months with a nutritionist with the last 2 years which I have a year straight so that's no biggy. I am worried my insurance will deny it and how much I'll need to pay out of pocket. I know some of what they want. Will the Bariatric program tell me? I know they usually check with insurances about that stuff. Yes, they will verify what is needed and let you know and my 10/26/2016.

    Low BMI

My BMI was 33 when I got banded. I lost 60 ish lbs so far and have another 10 before I get to where I really want to be. I was self pay though so less hassle getting approved. Since your BMI is low, your liver probably isnt fatty. I didnt have to do a pre op diet and my doctor said my liver was ok. In the first 4 months I lost about 40lbs I think
  17. Since I had my first appointment with my surgeon I've lost 40.6lbs. 17lbs on my own prior to preop diet, about 15lbs on two week preop, and almost 9lbs since surgery on 12/10! And my monthly friend is in town so you know I've gained a little because of that. I cant believe it. I'm so happy!
  18. Tomorrow begins my Gastric Sleeve journey as I embark on what is expected to be a miserable two week preop diet. My surgery is scheduled for 01/20/2012 with Dr Thomas Umbach in Las Vegas! I am a southern girl from Alabama so I will be traveling cross country to have this done. I am so excited but also very nervous!!! My pre-preop weight is 243 and I would like to be down to 180 by my 30th birthday in May and then ultimately down to 135 as I am only 5'1". Any advice on getting thru the next two weeks would be most helpful!! Thank you all!!!!
  19. Let's see, aside from all the basic stuff here's what else I found made it easier for me... I went alone and thought that worked out really well. I made friends with the other patient arriving that day and her daughter and it was really nice. We had dinner together at the hotel the night before. I felt like I had a support system but didn't have to worry about someone else getting bored or having to talk if I didn't want to. I wish I'd taken my swimsuit. It was really hot and the pool was cool and lovely. I dangled my legs but I would have loved to have an hour or two of floating around on the hotel night. I took some Special K Protein Water packets to add to my water on the way home. They were good. I think just the regular Crystal Light is even better but it was nice to get a little protein in. In my room the extra chair was small and uncomfortable. Took me awhile to figure out there were better chairs. When I did I switched to a big comfy recliner and it was so much more comfortable than the hospital bed. I put Skype on my laptop and my iPhone and the prepaid $10. I made tons of calls and shared my phone with my friends and still only used about $3. Calls home otherwise would have been at least 99 cents a minute. I got a simple Nancy Drew Dossier game to play on my pc. It was easy enough that I didn't need much brain power but it really passed the time. I downloaded a few TV shows to my iPhone for the ride home. That was great, I was so anxious to get home and Drop Dead Diva and Royal Pains really helped make the flight go quicker. I didn't need a wheelchair on the San Diego side because it was such a short walk to the gate. But I prearranged for one on the Seattle side and was really glad I did - it would have been a really long walk and it had already been a very long day. Nobody told me that the spinal block would make peeing a little weird. I took me awhile to figure it out, I was worried at first. I bought just one extra Nexium. They don't taste too bad but I'm glad I only bought one and can switch to pills later this week as per Gaby (at Dr. Aceves' office). I wish I'd thought to ask for another prescription of Toradol. I can't remember what the Mexican name for it is but they give you a small box to take home. It's a little pain killer that goes under your tongue. I had a really stiff neck for several days after I got home and it worked better than anything without making me drowsy. I didn't have any surgery pain but it was super for my neck. Buy some surgical gauze and a surgical no leak pad and tape before you go. My mom got me some and I really needed it for the first 4-5 days. I leaked out of my drain incision a lot. It would drench my clothes. The pads kept me dry then if I was home I'd air it out a bit. I don't know what I would have done without that stuff. Make sure you brush your teeth with bottled water and not tap water in the hospital. Shower and walk. You'll feel better. I used airmiles and flew home first class. I'm sure I would have been fine in coach but it was so nice to have the extra space and more comfortable seat. Make sure you write down the name of the person you want them to call when you're out of surgery on a separate sheet of paper and hand it in with your other paperwork. I thought just writing it in the paperwork was enough but nobody ever called my husband so he had to wait, worrying, until I was able to call at 6pm that night. Rest, relax, and don't hesitate to ask for what you need. They are great at the hospital - they are happy to help and don't get impatient. My experience was really as good as everyone said it'd be and I'm really happy I finally went with Dr. Aceves. I'm almost a month out and down 20lbs. I have lots of energy, am never hungery, and am just super happy to have my sleeve. A far cry than my miserable old band.
  20. Hi, I was banded on 6/3 by Dr. Tom Cerabona from Westchester Medical Center. He is he chief of Bariatric Surgery. He was wonderful. His office is right in the medical building near the Medical Center. His office staff treats you like you are VIP. Every 2 weeks there is a support group you can attend at 6pm for $10. There is one this Thursday. Dr. Cerabona also did my 16 1/2 yr old daughter on 7/8. We are both doing this journey together. When you find out how to change your ticker please let me know. I am getting very fustrated. Maybe I will see you at a support group. Lisa

  23. When it seems like I am not losing, or losing too slow. I know why, however, and I know now, understand now more than I ever did - why this surgery is so invaluable. I have issues with my metabolism that is quickly regulates to whatever calories I am putting in...and it gets very hard to trick it...My sis ter was the same but instead of the furnace banking itself, hers burned red-hot. At one point she ate 4800 callories a day and was still a size 0. We both caught a very bad flu once, I lost 15 lbs and was getting "you gos!", she lost 15 and was in the hospital. I need not trick it anymore - there is no feeling of being desperate to lose before I fail on my diet. I ma waiting out my metabolism, and winning. I finally decided on the surgery because I had lost just enough weight (from 1/2011 till 10/2011) that they could see the cause of my issues with my stomach – I had a tumor growing in/through/ and progressing out into my abdomen from my stomach. So since I was going to have to have so much removed anyway, and I HAD been looking into one WLS or another for a decade (lol), I decided it was time. Sleeved 1/2012 – will never go back to what I was, ever. The fat lady syndrome doesn’t help slow losing, I just have to remember to not let it get me. – I still am not “seeing” myself at the size I was (almost) not the size I am. That isn’t helpful at all! But I look at my NSV’s – and they are real. Squeezing into a size 12 recently made me dizzy and nauseous…not because I squeezed into the jeans, it occurred to me I could button size 12’s. I asked a lady I know (as politely as I could, but she is so nice I hope she understood) what size she was, because I was asked by a friend to “find” someone I thought I was the same size as myself, near my height. She is a size 20-22. I am a size 14, squeezing into a 12, and I see myself as a size 20-22. It's all good, however - I now have the equipment to play this game, and I win.
  24. I lost 10 lbs first week of Pre op now have been gaining .2-.4 lbs everyday for four days. Not cheating at all. Sometimes our bodies just don't do what we want them to do. Those little gains remind me of years and years of struggles dieting and makes me want my surgery Friday even more.

    Tired

It's VERY normal to still be extremely tired only 4 days post-op. General anesthesia can cause prolonged feelings of exhaustion in many patients, for many reasons. If you never drink or take opioid pain killers, your response to anesthetics and all the pain meds used during your hospital stay and whatever you're taking at home can all combine to make you very sluggish. I was about 10 days post-op before I felt mostly normal, and about a month out before I was back to sleeping normally. We have small marks on the outside, but had a major surgical procedure...take it easy on yourself
