  1. Oh, speaking of jewelry! My neck size has also changed.. About 10 years ago is when I really got up in the high 300s in my weight and my neck got big. It was a 16 or 17 I think. I have a TON of jewelry and none of my necklaces fit anymore. I had to use extenders, but even some of those weren't long enough. Now my necklaces all fit again and I measured my neck the other day and it's 14 now! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. Yeah, originally my wedding set was an 8.5, and about 10 years ago when I gained even more weight I had my husband have it sized up to 10 because I missed it so much. It's funny because it's not some giant diamond or ridiculously expensive, but it is my dream ring and I miss it so much, and the sentimental value is worth everything to me. I wish I hadn't had it resized now, but I never had any hope that I'd get wls or lose weight. I guess I'll just have to get it sized back down when I get to my goal. Congratulations on being back in your wedding set! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Are Smart Scales Worth it?

This is true and important to keep in mind. I do have one though, and it's cool to see other victories outside of weight. Mine tells me my "body's age" on the accompanying app, and it's neat to see hydration levels and those other figures improve over time. It's also helpful because the app lets you track your weight and you can compare dates to see how your body has changed. It being just like $10-15 more than a standard scale made me just purchase it and have those cool extra features, so long as you know that it's not going to be 100% accurate. Know yourself, though. If you think small inaccuracies or inconsistency could discourage you, then stick with something simpler.
  4. Sleeved on 4/27. Down 10 lbs since then. However, I haven’t lost an ounce in 3 days. Did anyone else experience this?

Love your curves in that denim dress @BayougirlMrsS! My contribution today is the after varicose vein ablation and removal edition. 🙄🙄 I will be sporting this knee high wrap for the next 2 weeks. I threw in a before pic as well to show how bad my veins were, complete with phlebitis. So glad this is done, as I have been in pain for about 10 years from this. I am in pain from the procedure now, but hopeful I will soon not have pain in this leg anymore. 😬😬😬
  6. My ring size was a 10 or 10.5 at my highest weight. I have a sizer at home and I checked it the other day because my fake substitute wedding ring that I got when my real ones got too big is feeling big. It's an 8. I measure 7.5 now.. That's unbelievable to me. I haven't worn a ring that small since I was in my 20s! I'm 49. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    What Was Your Biggest Challenge

I'm pre-surgery still, but I will say the hardest thing I've done so far is go on vacation and not eat everything in site. Usually I gain 5-10 lbs on vacation, but this time, I gained only 0.4 lbs. I did it by tracking everything I ate and sharing meals with my mom (she actually did gain weight, which is unusual for her, but she's a lot thinner than me). It's hard especially because my mom is so focused on which "nice" restaurants we go to and what we're going to eat; if it was just me and my dad we'd eat from a chain salad place every meal.

    Fitness watch.

I have a series 1 or version 1 Apple watch that my friend gave me used. I'm sure you could get a used Apple watch. I didn't think I wanted one and wouldn't have bought one except that my friend literally gave me her old one. It's so easy to use (Apple is good at that) and although I don't believe the calories from exercise are accurate, I don't believe any calorie counters are accurate because I've read a lot about how we really don't burn what we think we do from exercise, more like 10% of what calorie counters show. So, I don't eat the calories I "burn", but I like trying to close my rings and I have it set up that the face rotates pictures I've taken. And I love being able to see texts on it because sometimes I don't hear my phone, but I can feel the watch vibrate. You could also look at FitBits; they have a variety of price points.

Body image issues worse after surgery

It's so hard to NOT see myself as 325 lbs. Im at 191. I jave 11 more to go to get to plastic surgeon's goal. But I see all this hanging skin, sagging, crepey, wrinkly skin. My face has wrinkles and I look 10 years older when back when I was morbidly obese people thought I looked youthful or maybe they were just being nice. Because you know people always tell big girls "you have a pretty face" or "your eyes ate beautiful". Now I still hide my body just in smaller clothes. I still wear shorts daily but now I wear only shorts that have spandex liners that cover my wrinkled thighs or shirts covering my wrinkled, stretch mark, damaged skin on upper arms. The sizes have gone from 4x/26 to L/XL/12 but the feeling of people looking at me for all the wrong reasons has not gone away. I had started wearing tank tops out until someone made me feel self conscious about it. Now I just wear them indoors, at home. I don't look at myself in the mirror , they ate all gone or the 2 we have are turned around because I thought Id grab a hand mirror and check out my back and bottom and well it is doing exactly opposite what i thought it was doing and horrified me. So, no mirrors. No one sees me dress or undress. No one touches me. No sexual contact. No hugs. I have a major issue going on. I just hope my panniculectomy gets scheduled next month to help me feel better about something.

    Documented weight loss attempts!

So I’ve only been with my pcp  together for a couple of months, my past pcp left the company and I wasn’t with her for long, it’s been alittle hard finding a steady doc that’s around me! but since I’ve been with her, they are very concerned about my weight. I’ve told her my attempts that I made in the past and stuff and she understands, I think she would write me one, I have an appointment coming up on may 19 to see her so maybe I can get one done quickly! At my office they give us a form for our pcp to look at and go over and she basically has to check on the box if she approves of me getting the surgery and stuff and she checked yes and all of that!

    May Surgeries - check in!

Surgery is May 14th. Pre op diet starts May 10!
  12. I hope you are allowed more than just protein shakes and yogurt! For my 14 day diet, I am allowed reduced fat strained cream soups, sugar free jello and puddings, skim milk, and broth. I have broken it up into 4 meals, 200 cal or less. I usually get 80+ grams of protein in that way. I use the isopure non-flavored protein powder and add it to 1 serving of strained soup or broth. That is very satisfying. In the morning, I add the powder to a cup of fat free fairlife milk, and then I sprinkle in some sugar free jello pudding powder--very few calories, but a nice flavor without the cloying sweet. I basically add protein to 3 of the 4 meals, and the last is just broth. Don't forget fluids! I drink water constantly. I find that having specific times that I eat helps. (6:30, 10:30, 2:30, and 6:30). These are actually the same times that I would normally eat before the pre-op diet--so it was an easy transition. If I get a little hungry, I might have a meal a little earlier, but then I find I'm not as hungry for the next meal. Either way, I can always ask myself, "Can I go another hour?" Finally, I would wait. You are only trying to shrink your liver for surgery. Instead of trying to master the diet, just make healthy changes (if you haven't already) and maybe have one shake a day, just to get used to them. Once you hit those days where you HAVE to do it, you will probably find it easier to stick to it. You will find that you may have more energy and you may start to feel better. I found that I had headaches the first two or three days, in the afternoon. Sometimes I get hungry, but by the time I have had my 4th meal, I'm not. I have also started taking Miralax everyday so that I poop regularly. I didn't start that until day 4 or 5 though. Hoping the best for you!

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Hi y'all I'm 11 days post op, and nearing the two mark to start solid foods! I've lost 18lbs so far and loving it. Questions for you all, I never had any pain at all, or nausea, to the point that I wondered if they cut me open at all (despite the very obvious incisions). I also had no problem drinking water or any liquid so far, including creamy soup. I've had some BM issues and have introduced a daily serving of metamucil and it has helped. Do a double scoop after a particularly troublesome BM I go on hourly 5-10 walks throughout work. My incisions themselves are mostly gone, just scabs that are starting to peel off and fall. I don't get hungry anymore either, after drinking something I get a stomach rumbling, similar to when I used to be hungry before, but without the sensation of hunger. I've been taking my chewable vitamins everyday but just recently ordered the Patchaid patches and can't wait to try them!

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Well I lost 10 in the first 5 days of pre-op liquids. When I got home I could barely get my fluids in and the shakes were disgusting to me so I basically lived off water until 12 days in when I could start purées. Anything sweet was too sweet and I craved salt like crazy. I finally strained progresso soups and drank the broth because regular broth smelled terrible and nauseated me. It was pretty rough. But now I’m stuck not losing anything. I’m sure it will pick up again but this is crazy!

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Your doing excellent and weight loss is different for everyone. Just stay the course and walk in 10 minute intervals several times a day. I have spoken to many people that do that and it seems to help.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Same here. Mine was the 15th. I lost 31 and now haven’t lost a pound in the last 6 days. Since I started regular food. I’ve been living on eggs, tuna, cottage cheese and a little cheese. I started stool softeners due to the cheese and even took a laxative last night because it had been 10 days since I went. I may have lost one more lb since going but that’s not nearly enough. I could def use some pointers too!
  17. So just a little history: I am 42, , 5’11 and spent a good 10 years of life competing in women’s bodybuilding and also did trail running and half marathons before injuries, peri menopause, and a car accident caused me to gain a lot of weight over a few years. My surgeon is insisting that my goal weight be 150-155 lbs. I have not weighed this even when I was bodybuilding and completely shredded with a full 6 pack. He even tried to get me to switch from VSG to bypass because he felt it would help me lose more weight. I started out at 339 pre surgery and am down to 308 at 4 weeks post. There is no way that I feel I could ever weigh 150lbs as I would be skin and bones! Has anyone had a higher goal weight being taller or having more muscle mass than an average person? Did your muscle mass help or hinder your progress with weight loss? I have my long term goal weight in my head as 199lbs and I’m being told that I would still be obese at this and it isn’t a good goal for me to have.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

I’m 6 days post op and I agree I am so over these liquids it’s been 3 weeks now. I’m dreaming of the day where I can just eat some tuna or eggs. 8 more days for me. I’m down 19 pounds from when I started my pre op diet which I’m proud of. Hope all is well.
  20. Last week I went on vacation with my parents and usually when I go on vacation I gain 5-10 lbs. We were eating out every meal and my mom likes to make a big deal out of food and finding special restaurants. I was really worried, but I shared meals with my mom, tracked my food as best as I could, and we exercised a LOT (hiking, walking, and swimming most days). I gained 0.6 lbs, and that includes a pizza party the day after we got home with my cousin, where I only ate one piece of pizza and instead filled up on veggies and salad (I did eat dessert; I'm not perfect!). I'm pre-op, so anything I can train myself into now, rather than having food funerals, makes me happy!
  21. So, the entire month of April had been terrible for me. I've been dealing with a really bad osteoarthritis flare since April 5th so I only lost 1 pound the entire month due to inflammation issues and have been in constant pain since then. So, in the wee hours of this morning when I stepped on the scale I, honestly, wasn't expecting it to tell me I'd lost a pound because my weight keeps fluctuating between 190-193 and had done that the entire month of April. So I was shocked to see 189.2 on the scale! I stepped off the scale and then stepped back on it and it popped back up. I moved the scale and stepped back on it and, again, it said 189.2 for the third time. I didn't believe it at first lol (I think moved the scale like 5 times and checked it 6 or 7). But it's official! I can finally say that I've lost 200 pounds! That's a HUGE milestone for me! I have less than 10 pounds to go to get to my goal weight! And that just honestly blows my mind! I've been so miserable the last month due to the stupid flare, but seeing 189 on my scale put a huge smile on my face! It made my day! I just wanted to share my milestone...
  22. My doctor also said I could expect to lose only about 70lbs with surgery. Since I started off at 280, that would put me at 210!! I've already lost 27 and my surgery won't be for a few months yet due to insurance hoops. I'm still working on losing weight because 1) I want to practice the healthy habits I will need after surgery, 2) any weight I lose now is weight I don't have to lose after surgery, and 3) surgery is easier on your body (and easier for the surgeon) when you weigh less. I'm hoping to lose more than the "average". I just recently had a huge success: I went on vacation with my parents and we ate out 3 meals a day and I didn't gain any weight. I shared meals with my mom at many meals and we exercised A LOT - hiking, walking, and swimming most days. Usually when I go on vacation I would gain 5-10 pounds in a week! It was really hard but totally worth it. And of course, the day after I got home, my cousin had a pizza party, but even though I was exhausted, I had only one piece of pizza and filled up on salad and veggies (I did have a bit of dessert; I'm not perfect!). If I was throwing "food funerals," like some people, I could be gaining weight which would put me farther from goal...
  23. I totally agree !!!! and I am doing the same. But for my husband, daughter, and surgeon, no one knows. I usually tell no one anything because I come from a BIG, loving, judgemental with loving intentions family, and I didn't want to hear it. I had lap band and I lost 30 lbs. I had to work hard to keep it off as it was no easy ride for me. 10 to 15 miles of biking daily, yoga, weights everything. And then, due to some health issues and COVID, all of the exercising had to stop, and I literally gained 45 lbs on top of the already 15 lbs I had to lose. I looked like another person. and my family was polite but people were shocked and I could tell in their faces. I did this with no hesitation when I realized I could not control what was happening. Today, 6 days post-op and I felt like a million dollars. the swelling in my belly has gone down significantly, I was able to walk everywhere with my husband in the beautiful Florida sunshine. I am so happy today. Still on liquids but I am okay. No pain, discomfort, just itchy incisions that I purchased vitamin e for, and it stopped. Tomorrow I will weigh myself as it will officially be one week.
  24. Lol I agree I was 268 when I started my leave from work I’m now at a 215 stall. I go back 5/10. I’m looking forward to people’s reactions.
