    Diet Pills

oh also, you're supposed to take the shots for a couple months and then go off of them for a couple months so your body doesn't get immune to then. I didn't do this and that was probably another reason for the weight gain.
  2. So I got my surgery a year and a few days ago, and my weight dropped from 315ish to 268 at the lowest, and was hovering around 270 for awhile..... Now, I went to a doctors appointment when I was at 278...now I weighed in at around 295 at home....... I dont want to go to my doctors and tell them this. They saw my weight gain and told me to go on a 600 calorie a day liquid diet and I was like "LOL NOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" because it just sounded ridiculous and impossible. Sleeve or not, thats borderline starving yourself. Thats a BIG problem as to why I gained weight. A part of me was like "I'll show them!!!".............. and now my clothes arent fitting, so I sure showed them...

    Diet History Sheet

This is like torture remembering diets, weight loss, weight gain, especially when I have been in a perpetual state of yo yo dieting for the last 8 years. I have my appointment with the surgeon on January 7th, I will let you know what he says about my diet history sheets. I will provide you with this information, hopefully it will help so you will have an easier time.
  4. I can't help but feel a bit anxious about gaining weight whilst pregnant. Anybody else feel the same?
  5. Thanks Alexandra, You make some good points. I started gaining weight in my late teens. I worked in an office at 18 and got very sedentary. At first it wasn't a problem. I was just curvey and I met my husband and he loved it. Sometimes I would lose some weight and always gain it back, but I wasn't morbidly obese. I gained a lot of weight after losing weight on a liquid diet and I got pregnant soon after I finished the diet. I gained so much and kept on putting it on. My daughter will be 17 this months and its time to lose the baby weight, plus. When I had my first daughter 22 years ago, I lost a couple of lbs after I had her. Anyway the depression really started after I gained the weight with my 17 yr old daughter and I had moved from NJ to PA. I missed my friend in NJ and was faaaaaaaaaaaaaat and tired. You are right everything won't change magically, but I think I will feel more confident; like i did before this big weight gain. And I just wanted to hear others stories about how they felt. Thank you for your reply. Adele
  6. Hi. Has anyone out there had success despite taking mood stabilizers that can cause weight gain? I’m on a low dose of lithium and am considering Gastric Sleeve. I obviously don’t want to just regain all of the weight due to the meds. Thanks
  7. My story is a bit different than many people's as my weight gain was caused by something that typically causes people to lose weight. I have Addison's disease, which went undiagnosed for nearly 10 years. Addison's disease is sort of the opposite of thyroid disorders that many of my fellow sleevers have suffered... Essentially, people with Addison's don't produce enough cortisol, and this causes them to feel tired all the time. I started suffering from the symptoms around 18, but it did not become full-blown until I hit 20. Because I was tired all the time, I needed a way to stay awake, and resorted to eating in order to keep myself going. That's when the weight started coming. I gained more in particularly stressful periods when I needed more energy. I went from 127 lbs (and working as a promotional model during my freshman year of college) to 175 lbs, where I had leveled out at 23 for a few years. Then I moved to France, and ended up in a very stressful job where I mainly worked from home (less activity, more stress = more eating) and went up to 190. I was finally diagnosed with the Addison's last year, but unfortunately, the medicine (cortisol) inspired an additional weight gain last year that put me up to 230. It has been particularly hard for me in France because there are simply not many overweight people in this country and it is nearly impossible to find plus-sized clothing (I have to go over to London). It also did not help that a company which I had previously worked for in the US (and had an amazing track-record with including several sales awards) flat out refused to hire me because I "did not have the right look". Plus, with last year's rapid weight gain, I couldn't even recognize my own face in the mirror anymore. Nothing was helping to lose the weight either (not 2 hours of gym per day or the strict organic diet I had been following for 3 years)- I was just gaining without stopping. I stopped wanting to meet people or see my friends because I became so ashamed of my weight, and tired of everyone I met asking me when the baby was due. I also started to have a lot of pain in my feet (I have long, thin bones), and could no longer ski or iceskate or even walk long distances. So the doctors decided that sleeve surgery was my only option as diet and exercise alone were not working and because if I kept gaining, I would no longer be able to walk at 30 years old... The decision to do the surgery gave me hope that weightloss was an option for the first time in a long time. I went through with the surgery on 21 March 2011 at the American Hospital of Paris with Dr. Hobieka. I have lost 8 kg (which is almost 18 lbs) in the first 2 weeks, and am now stalled out in week 3. I'm excited to see the results and to get back to 135 (which I have not been since 19). Here's to wishing everyone else luck with their sleeves... :-)

Banded Yesterday; What is normal Pain?

also, you will want to use a heating pad on your shoulder. It helps with the shoulder pain and take ibprofin.. it also helps with the swelling. I don't have those health problems. However, if you had an IV drip, they are putting extra fluids in you which means you will have a weight gain. That is normal anytime you have IV fluids put into your body. Good luck with your band!!!
  9. I made positive changes before being banded - but I didnt lose any weight. Not that I had a requirement to. I recommitted to exercising regularly and got myself fit, which I believe was of major benefit to me in terms of recovery. And it was a mindset thing - I changed my life from the time I made the decision to have surgery. I ate healthy but I saw no point in trying to lose weight, nor did I ever feel tempted to have one last major pig out. I didnt eat everything that wasnt nailed down. So I get the point that several people have made above about weight gain prior to surgery. I dont think someone who goes out and stuffs themselves stupid for months is necessarily ready for what this surgery really entails, its more a desperate grab for a magic fix in a lot of cases. But I still think its heartless, judgemental and more than a little stupid to expect people who have such major weight problems and issues to do with food that they are willing to consider surgery to "prove" that they can do it before they have the surgery and i wouldnt use a surgeon who expected it.
  10. Wishes - the book that they gave me is called Snoring and sleep Apnea: Sleep Well, Feel Better - here is an Amazon link to it if it is okay to include outside links http://www.amazon.com/Snoring-Sleep-Apnea-Well-Better/dp/1932603263/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1309664094&sr=1-1 It has a lot of great information if like myself, are not familiar with slepp apnea and its treatment. I always thought I just liked naps lol. As it turns out sleep apnea can actually be a contributing factor in weight gain - it affects our organs, if we are not getting good rest, enough oxygen - we are slowly killling ourselves - I swear even after one night on the cpap even my aching joints felt better. I have an appointment next week to get my own machine for use at home. I would definitely look into having a sleep study, my insurance (BCBSIL) requires it - folks who have apnea are much likely to have not so great htings happen during surgery.
  11. If you have a good relationship to start out with, I think you will be in for a wonderful surprise!!! My marriage was good before the surgery but what I didn't realize is that my weight gain bothered my husband so much. Once we started talking about it, we decided on the surgery together and we have gotten SO much closer! It opened so many doors about our relationship, being more honest with each other and making a commitment to help each other become better people. He has never had a weight problem but he has been very understanding, patient, supportive and loving throughout the process. We had a good sex life before, but now it's amazing! Yes, your sex drive will come back! And you will find yourself laughing and talking and enjoying life so much more because you feel better about yourself. I am 4 months post op and I have been doing a weekly (every Sunday) blog about my journey. Happy to have you follow along. I was encouraged by someone else's blog and it was a true inspiration to me. www.queenofcrop.com When I look at my 'before' photos now, I'm embarrassed that I waited so long......so come on in....the Water is fine! www.queenofcrop.com

    Need some encouragement

You are owning up to your failure and that takes guts. Drinking is one big weight gain problem and if you put your mind to it then yes you will succeed. 24 minutes is better then nothing. I wish you nothing but success.

    March 1st Scheduled

Hi March Sleevers 2016, I finally had my Sleeve done on March 8th 2016. Had to wait 8 months for it, as my surgeon and his team found out in July 2015 that I had Graves Disease (Hyper thyroid), so I had to stabilise my thyroid first ..... I had rapid weight gain between 2014 and February 2016 of 41 kg ( 90.2 pounds ) ! Awful time in my life. I was so disappointed that I had to have a long delay, but it had to be done. My surgeon was very concerned re possible thyroid storm doing the op, that possibly could be fatal ..... Anyway, it is great to connect with March 2016 Sleevers. I am in my 6th week post op, and had my first stall, still on soft foods at this stage, and keep going slowly forward. Best wishes to everyone

Been having a very hard time..

Babs, I'm sorry for all the stress you're going through. PLEASE watch your weight very carefully. I gained 60 lbs in 2 months when I started taking Welbutrin. I don't think that kind of weight gain would be possible with the band, but it was horrible for me. My brother also gained about 60 lbs while on Welbutrin. If you think you're gaining weight because of it, don't be afraid to ask your doctor to switch you to something else. I take Cymbalta now, and it's perfect for me. Everyone's different of course, and you may be fine with it. I just know it was a direct cause of a massive weight gain for me. Jonathan

Hello! Calling all Georgians, anybody there?

Hey Dee! How's it going? I didn't get filled yesterday because I'm on the "remedial learn how to eat with the band" plan. No weight loss, no weight gain.
  16. My doctor is known for postponing surgery due to weight gain or lack of loss-- There was a girl in my group sessions who was sched for surgery on a Tues and had an appointment the day before - came to group that night and said he postponed her because of weight gain

    Scared of regaining it all!

In my opinion. A revision is not something to be considered unless all things have been tried. There is an increased risk when going in for another surgery. Also you do not get the reset you get with the first surgery. The best thing to do in my opinion when you gain. Is to: Go back to tracking everything you put in your mouth. Make sure your Fluid is in check. Make sure your Protein goals are reached. Reduce carbs for excelerated loss ( I don't eat low carb but if my loss reduces I up my protein and reduce carbs) When hungry eat protein it's so filling and your working your tool as you really feel the restriction. Make sure to not drink calorific drink's it all adds up. Try and get more sleep. And so on and so fourth. If someone tries this for months and no movement then perhaps discuss a revision but at this stage it seems to soon.. Not to mention the weight creeping up that much from eating once a day (what is it you eat that once a day ?) A dr visit is warranted before a surgeons visit to see if there is anything contributing to the weight gain. That is just my opinion though. Sent from my Vivo 5R using BariatricPal mobile app

Also go to your doctor to see if there could be other contributing factors to your weight gain. Sent from my Vivo 5R using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. I take Lamictal, Seroquel and Gabapentin. Seroquel makes me hungry all the time, as a result weight gain. My question is, Am I still going to be hungry after I have the surgery if I continue taking the Seroquel? Anyone know?
  20. Poly cystic ovarian syndrome, a metabolic disorder that causes insulin resistance that causes weight gain as well as high blood pressure, high cholorestorl and difficulty conceiving and a few other things. Some of us have all the symptoms, some have a few. Pcos

    Hi LBT-can I vent?

I think what happens, and I could be wrong, is that we develop a mindset of being able to eat whatever we want because the band limits the amount. Then, if we lose the fill, we question why am I gaining weight when I'm eating the same things I did before?! The fact is, that without that restriction, we do get hungry and it does take more food to fill us up. So eating more of the "same thing you ate before" is naturally going to cause weight gain. Add to that the stress and worry of gaining without that fill, and in come the comfort foods. It is not natural to eat 1/2 to 1 cup of food and be full. So don't be so hard on yourself. What has happened is very understandable and can be reversed. It was a hard lesson learned, but it sounds like one that you will not soon forget. As for the feelings of envy and and bitterness... I think those most likely equate to fear. When we feel ourselves slipping backwards into the dark pit we just climbed out of, it's hard to keep a smile and cheer on the ones who are still climbing. Tomorrow is a new day, with lots of choices to be made. And you have the power to make whatever choice you truly want to make for yourself. Beating yourself up isn't going to give you the desire to keep trying. So do try to remember to be kind to yourself. This is probably one of the hardest things you've ever tried to overcome, and the battle is far from being over. *hugs*
  22. I'm a sleeve. four1/2 year’s out. I maintain in the 130's. I give myself a ten-pound bounce range. when the scale moves up, I go back eating my bariatric food plan to stay in range. I'm in maintenance phase. I eat mainly clean, I do indulge occasionally. My third year, my weight got up to 147. (still a BMI 24.5 normal range) had to dial in my diet to lose the weight. I'm back in the 130's My two cents on regains. Weight gain can happen with any type of bariatric surgery. Some factors in regain: Complications from surgery Medical issues and medications pregnancy/menopause Not weighing yourself regularly Getting complaisant as the years pass You will reach a point that you noticeably can feel less restriction with the sleeve (it has not stretched) Just because you can consume more food, does not mean you should. Its important not to go over your calories and macros for the day. Stretching is rare. Get it diagnosed by your surgeon for a revision Eating around your surgery. Grazing is consistently eating sever small meals of healthy and unhealthy foods. The total will be over your calories and macros. It’s as if you never had surgery. You can eat 3000+calories. YOU WILL GAIN WEIGHT Ask for help if you have a gain (surgeons office, dietician and counselling) - Easier to lose a 20 pound gain than a 40, 60, 80, 100+

    How Much Protein?

When I was first banded, the rule was Women 50-60G. Men 70-80G. of Protein a day. He also told me not to drink to much protein, because it can cause weight gain. Now the numbers have changed..... I still try to stay around what he suggested though, cause he could be right.

    i need help....

I spent 2 nights in the hospital & when I got home I was 10 lbs heavier - I was totally dumbfounded!! Thank goodness for this website. After reading what others had posted about this weight gain I felt better & a week later it was off. Thank goodness!!
  25. HotButterFly

    Totally Discouraged :(

You said you hear from the dietitian.... What about your surgeon? Does he/she know what's going on? I would definitely make an appointment to see the surgeon. And if you feel like you should be living off liquids only, how about an unfill instead o a fill. A band that's too tight can lead to stall or worse, weight gain. I know it's tough and disappointing when we expect one outcome and it doesn't materialize, but DON'T GIVE UP!! There will always be people who will wanna kick a horse that's down, SPECIALLY those closest to us. Don't let that defeat you... You CAN be a success story, but never give up. Keep searching and searching until you find an answer. Just because right now you're not in a good place doesn't mean you won't find your way... Just keep swimming!! ((HUG))
