Hi All , thanks so much that valuable info .I dread trying to get an appointment with my G/P - as anyone in the UK will tell you - it's a miracle if you don't just get the nurse or pharmacist . The dietitian told me that gentle Iron , Feraglobin , and Bariatric Vits won't do it for me and I need to get a treatment plan off my G/P .Yeah like that's easy . She is sending me to be re-tested in a month .I have found it nigh on impossible to stomach ANY food that isn't soft ie I live on cottage cheese , shakes , Oatabix ( when it's soft ) and yogurt plus Protein water .I have really tried to digest proper food but it kills me going down .I can manage chocolate and am tempted to have some very dark chocolate every day to get my iron up .It doesn't give me the runs . Memoryissues - you are so right .The dietitian will only do so much .I wish I could have an infusion but I'm likely just to be put on Ferrous Fumerate which hasn't worked so far . Thanks for all the tips everyone re caffeine , spacing out my iron pills, the Vit C etc .I can't have V8 juice unfortunately as I have a stoma ( have a colostomy ) and veg juice would play merry hell with it .My stoma must be male 'cos it's very loud , embarasses me in front of people ,and never shuts up 😒😆

Since about 5 days after surgery I have been mixing my protein with my iced coffee every morning. I use powdered protein, had too many gross bottle of premier with chucks... But it is my everyday start now.

Trust me I understand. I was crying last night as well. Today, I can barely walk. Just going to try these different options and hopefully find a good remedy that works for me. Sent from my LM-Q730 using BariatricPal mobile app

Protein coffee was a staple in my diet as well for a while. Got sick of the someday though.

I started following a VSG/WLS influencer on Instagram and decided to try her recipe for protein coffee. My life is forever changed. 16 oz - Cold Brew Decaf 1 x 11.5 oz bottle of Premier Protein Caramel Protein Shake 2 Splashes of Jordan's Skinny Syrup - Salted Caramel This helps me to not miss my lattes and frappes! If you're like me and live under a rock and haven't made a protein coffee (and you like coffee) - you need this in your life!

Vitamins for stopping hair loss. Yes or no?
qtdoll replied to happynewbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was taking 100% of the vitamins I needed to take, taking Finasteride, getting my full protein intake & I still dealt with hair loss around the 3rd month. It's nearly unavoidable. -
I used to often make chia seed pudding like @Tomo regularly but haven’t for a while now. Funny how you get out of the habit of making/eating something. I’d just use vanilla as a flavour & would add a spoonful of milk powder to the mix for extra protein too ( it can make it extra sweet though). I have a spoon of mixed seeds cooked in with my porridge every morning.

I'm on day 13 of the liquid diet pre-op & I just read on my surgery papers that says not to take flaxseed 5 days prior to surgery plus some other stuff and I've been adding flaxseed to most of the protein shakes I've been making lately (maybe 3-4 days now) and my gastric sleeve surgery is Tuesday... Should I be worried??! 😬

Vitamins for stopping hair loss. Yes or no?
catwoman7 replied to happynewbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
as the others have said, there's really nothing you can do to help with the hair loss other than keep on top of your protein and supplements so it won't be any worse than it already is. Hair loss is due to the surgery's trauma to your body (It can be a side effect of any major surgery - (or childbirth, too)) plus the super low calorie intake we have the first few weeks post-op. By the time it starts falling out, the "damage" has already been done. It'll stop after about three months and will grow back. Fortunately, I lost very little hair, so it wasn't noticeable. But some who lose more go for a shorter cut or wear scarves or something to take the focus off hair. A few people have heavy enough loss that they buy a wig - although that much loss doesn't seem to be that common. -
Vitamins for stopping hair loss. Yes or no?
Arabesque replied to happynewbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The hair loss tends to last about 3 months +/- for those who take theses additional vitamins & supplements & about 3 months +/- for those who don’t take them. As to whether you’ll lose less or more hair by taking them or not taking them no one really knows as you can’t compare your experience with someone else. Most supplements to promote hair growth or prevent loss contain the vitamin B family, vitamins D & E, zinc & iron which are usually found in your multivitamins anyway. I say save your money but it is your choice. Take your multi vitamins, meet your protein goals & your hair will stop shedding in its time. -

Iron Deficiency 4 years after surgery
Recidivist replied to Recidivist's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks for the very helpful comments. My doctor didn't mention ferritin but I will ask him about it. I'm also going to see whether an infusion would be an option. (Medicare for all in Australia, and it can be difficult to get approved for some treatments like that.). Meanwhile, he is running tests for possible explanations for my anemia, other than malabsorption due to gastric bypass. -
March 23 buddies yet?
GeorgieLynn replied to ceri84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on day 2 post op as well however I am still in the hospital. My bladder has decided to become quite lazy after the anesthesia and is refusing to begin work again quite yet so am having to be straight cathed every few hours u til it begins to respond to its own signals to empty when I am ready. Other than that, water and my shakes (Orgain plant protein) is going down fairly easy without too much difficulty in 2oz medicine cups every 15 minutes that I am awake. I do still have considerable bloating due to the CO² in my abdomen/torso and have not been able to pass any but my body is absorbing it slowly. I am walking the unit almost every hour while awake however at times I really do feel exhausted but I still feel it is worth it not to lie in the hospital bed. I still have a very sore throat and am very hoarse from the tubes down my throat during surgery but I have been gargling with warm salt water which feels good and should speed up the healing of this area. Regardingvpain after VGS, (laparoscopy) I can say that I am uncomfortable but not in pain. It is tolerable knowing day to day is is going to ease and all be worth all of the struggles when I reach my goal. It will only be a memory. I am thinking of all of the others who have had surgery this week and those who have their's coming up rapidly and offer encouragement to not be anxious. It is not horrible, nothing to fear. Just ve diligent about working your program and following all of the recommendations put to you from your surgeon and / or your WL clinic to stay disciplined wirh your diet, walk, walk, walk, and use your support systems. Do not be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Allow your body to heal. Bless you all. 🙏 20230311_002443.heic -
It’s Day 2 Post-Op for me - my surgery was on March 8th (robot assisted sleeve gastrectomy - Da Vinci machine). I’m doing okay on getting the liquid amount recommended to me but unfortunately it’s either water or vitamin water. The Premier Clear Peach flavor tastes salty to me so not doing well on the protein count but trying not to panic. I also tried broth yesterday and it tasted SOUR and I had it confirmed that it was not sour by my fiancé. The amount of gas in my tummy is going down slowly making it easier to drink liquids without a sharp pain. Wishing all the March surgeries a speedy recovery!!! To better lifelong health.

Your welcome! I tried apple sauce, I found out I don't like apple sauce with cinnamon anymore. I have to be on this phase for 4 weeks! I need ideas because I'll get burnt out haha. I can't stomach protein shakes anymore lol.
-
Honestly at the pureed phase I literally just pureed whatever my family was eating with some extra gravy or sauce! Honestly the most delicious meal I had - possibly ever - was the pureed roast lamb dinner with veg that I ate a few weeks after surgery. I still remember that flavour explosion after 2 weeks of liquids. Never had another protein shake EVER after that. Proper food FTW! Best of luck!

Hello, Just started my liquid diet! How MUCH WEIGHT DID YOU GUYS lose ON IT? I was able to have a bunch of premier protein shakes and Jell-O, and some broth. I seasoned the hell out of that broth! I am so hungry.haha

I'm trying to get some cardio going and a little strengthening and I understand about the calories. Im fighting now just to get the d*MN protein. But thanks for the response.

3 weeks and counting until I smoke after this demonos sleeve. I've read a lot about calories carbs getting protien. Some of the stuff I've read are from 2010 to 2014...nothing really updated but in all those post not once did I read about working out. I thought the sleeve or any weight lose surgery go habd in hand with working out. Getting your body back on shape..getting rid of the flab. Hence needing calories and carbs as well as protein. Granted our eating habit will change due to the sleeve but its not a diet. I will nit treat it as such. So do anyone work out as well.

What did you eat with the hummus? Anything or just plain? I love hummus, but with raw veggies or pita bread! So I've been wondering what my options will be for it.

February 2023 surgery dates!
Erin18 replied to Erin18's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Where do you get the clear premiere protein drinks? I got the proteinh2o . It's not bad. I'm going to drink it more. I think I need to keep it cold instead of just drinking it as is. -
Senior woman and lapband
Arabesque replied to MarciaM's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lap bands aren’t commonly done anymore & many surgeons don’t even do them now. (Complications, low success rate - only about 30% lose their weight, greater risk of regain, etc.) Sleeve has become the more popular surgical option & many older people successfully have that surgery. (I was 54 when I had mine but there are many in their 60s & 70s who do.) Are you only interested in the band because it is reversible & makes fewer changes to your body? We all have our own reasons for choosing our surgery so certainly no judgment here. I just find it interesting to hear why people choose their surgery but maybe I’m just nosy. LOL! When I first decided to go the surgery route I thought lap band but then started doing research & realised a sleeve would be a better fit for my lifestyle, medical status & my weight loss/gain history. -
February 2023 surgery dates!
Erin18 replied to Erin18's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's cool! I would still practice eating like you would after surgery. Chew foods 22 times, don't drink with meals, drink fluids an hour after meals or 30 minutes before meals. 3oz lean protein, 1/2 cup veggies or fruit, light dressings, eat protein first. 3 meals a day. Practice getting your protein and fluids in. I find it hard after surgery so far, but working hard on it every day -
Senior woman and lapband
catwoman7 replied to MarciaM's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it may be hard to find a surgeon who'll be willing to place a lapband. That surgery has largely been replaced by the sleeve as the non-RNY option, because so many people had complications with the lapband. A lot of people had to have their lapbands removed. P.S. you might want to try posting on the Lap band forum here on this site. They're the only members of Bariatric Pal who probably have a lap band these days. I almost never see posts from lap banders on the major forums anymore. Here's the link to the lap band forum: https://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/4-lap-band-surgery-forums/ -
We didn't have any liquid only diet; we had puree and soft things (yogurt, scrambled eggs, etc.) in the hospital along with a lot of liquids, of course. The general rule the first month was to move between liquids, purees and soft solids as we could tolerate them; if we came across something that wasn't tolerated, then move back to proven foods and try that one again in a week or two. Some progressed more quickly than others. With protein shakes as a staple to ensure adequate protein, I started with broth, then graduated to thicker soups like vegetable or chicken noodle or rice with the chunks strained out, then just mashed the chunks as the next trial, then went unmashed and well chewed, etc. As the group had around twenty years experience in working with the sleeve (at that time), I wasn't about to argue with them being different than others online.
