    Early NSV!!

Amy, I love the name change! And congratz on your NSV! I'll have to keep that term in mind, it's new to me, I'll start looking for my own "NSV's". Now, I know there's a ton more benefits to weight loss than seeing the scale move, but I just love putting the title on it! Then I can stop and enjoy my NSV moments, like you just did :crying: I think today I had something of an "NSV" . . . it wasn't lower weight, but it was diet related. I went and got my hair cut, and all over the salon were open boxes of Girl Scout Cookies, and chocolate kisses. Now, I was a (maybe still am?) "choco-holic", but when I was offered a cookie or a chocolate kiss, I felt **happy** to politely decline! I really didn't miss it, even under my nose like that! Ok, yes, I'm proud of myself here, lol. And more than a little surprised . . . I was worried about today, I thought I'd be drooling for any chocolate. But I'm ok with my diet . . . it's almost like, we made friends! lol  Sorry, I didn't mean to hi-jack your NSV moment with my own story, Amy! I'm so glad you share. This gives me something more to look for. Congratz again!

    I think I had a NSV

Alright New Years Knockouts - it seems like this weight has just been falling off and everytime I turn around I am able to do something different like tying my shoes anywhere now - not just sitting on the couch! Speaking of NSV's, this morning was a BIG one! I am wearing (comfortably) a pair of pants that I bought back in 2005 that were too small in the hopes that I would lose the 10lbs I needed in order to fit into them (you know, motivation). Well, it never happened, I went ~40lbs the other way and the tags stayed on and they stayed in my closet thru 3 moves and countless "closet re-organizing, spring cleaning"....Well today, I pulled them out of the closet, finally pulled the tags off and I AM WEARING THEM....3 years later - they fit! And I have 10-15 other pieces bought around the same time with the same 10 lbs intentions. This is really fun! I am so happy I want to tell complete strangers on the street, but I figured you guys were a better audience!

    I think I had a NSV

Who cares? Its a smaller size. That is all that counts. That is an NSV!!!
  7. I think I had my first NSV today, but I'm not sure to be honest. After work today I stopped by our local "plus size" store here in Canada, Penningtons, and thought I'd try on a pair of pants - I wasn't intending to buy just more curious than anything. So I was wearing a size 26 jeans at the time of my surgery but they were snug. I found a couple pairs of pants I liked and grabbed two sizes of each... 24s and 26s. I tried the 24's on first and they fit, and they fit comfortably!! So that seems like a NSV right? But the part that throws me off is - the weight I am right now, I was last spring/summer'ish and at that weight then a 24 wouldn't have fit me. So did I have a NSV and now the pants fit or ... since I haven't boughten jeans made by MxM (brand carried by Penningtons) in a while, maybe they're sized differently? Hmmmmm.

    Way to go.Great NSVs. Donna
  11. hey gang, Just thought I'd post that I've actually bought a few pieces of clothing in the regular section for the first time in years! They're a tad snug, but wearable in public, so I'm in em! I actually bought a bathing suit last night for my new gym membership. They didn't have any 18's so I thought what the heck - give it a try. Lo and behold, it fit! It's TIGHT, but it fits and it's kinda nice to have that belly sucked in a bit. I celebrated by a nice long spa soak after my workout last night. I don't think I'll be done shopping at Lame Giant just yet, but it won't be long!! It will feel like a real victory when I hit a size 14 (will be the first time in about 11 years). Meanwhile, I'm down from a 24 to a 16/18 on the bottom and a 14/16 on top. :whoo:

    Another NSV

that is a great NSV!!! congrats
  13. Whoohoo!! Twelve months ago, when I started my new job at a new mine, I had the horrible experience of having to go up yet another size in men's work pants and had to tell the guys in the store what size to order - which they didn't even have in stock! There was a whole embarrassing kerfuffle that went on for months as they had to order my size (127cm). When the pants finally arrived months later, they just fit and in the weeks before my surgery, they were really uncomfortably tight. Three months ago, they were falling off me and I went back to the 122cm pants I was wearing at my previous job. These have been getting looser and looser and this morning when I got up off the bus seat, I almost left them behind, so I thought "Right! Time to change!" It was a wonderful feeling to walk into the stores and announce in a loud voice "I NEED SMALLER PANTS PLEASE!!" What was even better was, after I tried them on, I didn't just go down one size to the 117cms, I fit into the 112cms and THEY'RE NOT EVEN TIGHT!!:wink_smile: WOOOHOOOOO!!! PS: I would have put this in the NSV thread but I couldn't find that. I went back 4 pages on the index too - where did it go????

    Finally!!!

Carol, I am proud of you for hanging in there and not getting discouraged, not reverting to your pre-band ways. That is a huge NSV!!!! Mimi
  15. Hi Guys, I have committed to so many things in life and most often don't finish them. Since having the lapband, I have really started to live. I have been jogging since January--very slowly. I signed up for the race a few months ago and found excuse after excuse of why I shouldn't do it. My feet hurt, its too hot, I am too old, I am not at goal etc. I decided to Just Do the Best that I Could. It took over 3 1/2 hrs. I ran most of the first 8-9 miles and walk/ran the rest. But, I finished. I will post pictures soon. I want to post a few before and after wls pictures too. I am down 56-58 lbs. So, I am around 165. My goal is 150. I keep fluctuating. Stay encouraged all. Brigette

    sweet spot and NSV

Awesome! Congrats! Riding amusement park rides with my son, shopping for clothes in a "regular" store, and not hiding from cameras are all on my list of reasons for having the surgery. That's THREE NSVs!!! Great job rockin that band!

    NSV non surgical victories NEW

The bathtowel victory was great for me too . . . lol. I will never buy another bathsheet again (but I still have some old ones in case my belly gets a little big with this pregnancy). Another great NSV for me has been sitting on the floor with my arms wrapped around my knees . . . this is amazingly very comfortable and easy now.

    New way of thinking

congratulations on your NSV and what a wonderful attitude. As I travel a lot, I know that you will also be more comfortable in the plane seat. Well done and let us know what you decide on for an outfit for the event.

2 NSV one over the weekend and one today!

Congratulations. It really feels good when something like that happens. My favorite NSV was when I went to the outlet store where I buy scrubs for work (I work in a doctor's office). At the beginning of my journey I wore 2X. I had gotten down to large and they were looking kind of baggy, so I went back to buy some mediums. I picked out some tops and pants, took them home, and when I tried the pants on they still looked baggy. I thought I can't possibly be a small. I went back to the store, only this time I tried them on in the store to make sure before I exchanged them. Well, the small fit, so I returned the pants (the medium tops looked ok--sometimes I am a small but mostly medium) and got all small size. I honestly can't remember the last time I took a small anything. It felt so good! I also shop at the local thrift store, and today wore a layered look top I had gotten there. Group support is tonight and I wanted to wear something other than scrubs. When it was admired at work I told them where I got it. I probably spent about $3.00 for it. Thrift stores are a great place to look for clothes, especially while you are losing and your size is changing. You can save a bundle. I have gotten past the idea that someone I don't know wore them before me. I even found a pair of Ann Taylor Loft jeans there. It was priced $6.98 but they were having a 50% off sale so I got them for about $3.50. I love them. They are kind of a brick red color, size 12 (down from 22W). I take 10-12 in misses sizes now. Pinch me! Good luck on your journey. You can do it. It is never too late, but never is too late.
  20. Over the weekend I was in a store and decided to try on a regular size 14, rather than a 14W - it fit! Woo Hoo! I started at a size 20W. Also... This morning at work, a female security guard ( located in the lobby of my office building) called me over and said " I've been watching you, you are really doing great - how much have you lost?" Woo hoo - so very few people say ANYTHING to me that sometimes I want to yell out - hey, look at me, can you see that something is different about me? I of course don't do it, but it does drive me crazy! Anyway, just wanted to share my NSV - - love to hear about yours!

    Two weeks from surgery

NSV = Non-scale Victory: When your body changes, even though your weight stays the same. Your clothing fits looser, you've lost inches, you sleep better, get off of any meds you required before you started the process. Sugery lasts only about 45 minutes, feeling almost normal starts to happen around day 3 or 4. Bloating and your incisions are healed around week 3. Day 1 will be the worst, be prepared by having one point of contact for people who want to check on you. You won't feel much like talking or being bothered by anybody or anything, so be prepared before you go for your procedure. Good luck!

    Bestest Nsv Ever!!!!

That is an awesome NSV!!! Congrats!
  25. I reached a personal NSV today...I can cross my legs! Now, in the past, I've faked it by leaning slightly to one side and flinging one leg over the other, and then holding onto my knee for dear life. From the front, sure...looked like I was normally crossing my legs, while resting slightly on my knee. Meanwhile, the back side of me was hanging over the armrest. Now, I can sit normal with my butt and hips straight and cross my legs. AND IT DOESN'T FALL OFF! I don't have to hold it. My next NSV - on the road to becoming a "normos" - will be when I can tuck one foot behind the leg that's being crossed. The BIG NSV will come when I can cross the leg, tuck the foot, and twist my legs to the side - without moving my butt. I've studied the normal woman for years. Pretty soon I'll be able to mingle among them with no one the wiser that once I couldn't even cross my legs. In the meantime it's small steps toward normal...
