  1. I started way heavier...but I have to say my first NSV was about 3 weeks out walking up 4 flights of stairs without getting winded. I had lost about 40 lbs from heaviest. In the first few months there will be lots of little things! Being 7 months out I still have NSV often
  2. Two weeks before surgery I weighed 320. Only lost 7 in the pre-op and 313 day of surgery. Now I'm 3.5 weeks out and down to 289.1. Yay! But I don't feel smaller at all. My clothes don't seem bigger and only the people who know about the surgery will say anything about me looking different. So, my question is: for those of you who were around my weight when you started, when did you feel thinner. What was the first NSV that made you smile and say, yes! This is working!
  3. NSV: ? On my way to work I see some of the guys I work with, I wave and they wave back. Yesterday I waved at two of them with no response. Later when I saw him, he said I didn't realize that was you!

    NSV: Golden Girl

Hi Pretty Thick, your life is coming together in all sorts of ways and I'm so happy for you. I think you are tapping into flow. Your self-esteem is higher and you're exuding happiness. Other people like to have those people around them. When we are in that place of flow we find ourselves receiving all sorts of unexpected rewards. It's about energy and connection. I'm sorry some others felt the need to rain on your parade in the name of society's tendency to overlook heavier people when it comes to promotion, etc. You earned every penny of that and you know it. You are smart, talented and you've put in your time. Because we still have a society where men are paid more, receive the better jobs, etc., we need women like you to be making it up the ladder into places of power and decision so you can help equalize the playing field and create a better society. Here's to asking for something. I think that's what this NSV is all about. You held up your head, marched in and made a request -- and it worked! Congratulations on that. You are advocating for yourself and for what you want, which is to create a new life in the same geographic region with some one you love. I think you are saying that having your band and losing the weight gave you that confidence. That is a tremendous NSV. Maybe it's good to be aware that not every one will be happy for you and you will need to protect yourself from others sometimes. Maybe this forum is a little microcosm of that. You don't need to make any excuses for the industry you're in or the man's world we still all find ourselves in despite years of feminists working so hard. We are not going to get there by dropping out or saying no because existing conditions aren't yet what they should be. Here's to saying YES and to asking for what we want and need. I am really proud of you.

Excellent observations melandoll!!! I recognize that very zone you described. I too was shocked SHOCKED I tell you, to discover how effectively eating/OVEReating had become my own Journey to Morbid Obisity. Identifiying and recognizeing those very points helps tremendously in preparing for the next phase into the 'Days of our Desires' in a non-food way. Somehow along the way I discoverd LBT and learned to find other activies. ONE thing that really helped, was to list a new discovery every time I made one, such as "I can walk to the mail box without my knee exploding".....a form of NSV --Non scale Victories....which after a few bouts of "WHAT have I done to myself ", suddenly all sorts of NSVs began multiplying. Another sudden activity, was to start the boxing up of clothing no longer SMALL ENOUGH to fit!! What excitement! Suddenly, in stead of boxes of stuff that was too small or too tight, there was some of my old favorites that in themselves I had put away to wear a some glorious future time where I could somehow slip back into them....but I was disappointed, as now they too was JUST TOO LARGE!!!! Discovering each week my size crept closer to the ultimate shock (WARNING---this is TOUGH).....there were entire stores out there, that didn't even have the XXXXL sizes....and I was being sent to them by my old fat-boy clerks....the pain of rejection somehow bumped me out of some of my preoccupaiton with food choices. Along the way I discovered I was more preoccupied with not 'hunger' but instead the FEAR of becomeing 'hungry'... Then I discovered 'satiety' was REAL....and that the approach of 'hunger' was enjoyable in the way s pleasant summer swale that cooled the heat of the day and restored the comfort of just admiring the approaching 'hunger' ...which I could easily modify with a few bites instead of laboring under entire bread loaves and bags-o-burgers. etc. So YOU can DO IT TOO!!! Cheers in your journey.

I want the weight off NOW!

Sorry...........You will lose it when you lose it..You cannot speed it up! Be patient and enjoy the ride and take the time to learn new habits and help them become part of your life...work on your brain.. Spend time thinking and fixing why you got here in the first place...Trust me it will all happen but when your body is ready...Enjoy the little changes as they come because one day there will be a new you standing there and you really need to know who this new person is and how to keep her forever... i felt like you and now over a year later...no one knows who I am I have changed so much....I was not prepared for the changes I see even though I was like you in a hurry....... I am a learning process and a changing picture all the time..It is hard to keep up.....Enjoy each size down and each NSV....You need them to get you there and stay there....K

    How often do you weigh?

I don't own a scale, so about once a week at work when I remember so I have something to put on my ticker . I'm gauging my success with NSV's.
  8. I've tried to get friends hired on here at work before, to no avail. It's strange how I was just able to walk into our VP's office and let him know I needed a job for my boyfriend so he could move to Texas. It took less than one minute for him to respond "done, what job do you want for him?" I knew I chose the right dress to wear today! LOL
  9. I was sleeved 10/2/13, today I completed the first day of couch to 5k. This is a big accomplishment for me as to say I was out if shape is a big understatement. I kept pushing myself and I did it. So excited!
  10. Yesterday over lunch, I hit the ice and played hockey! It was a little akward at first, and I have some great blisters on my ankles, but these are the payment the hockey gods require. I skated ok, and had decent stamina. Being pickup we didnt have a lot of subs on either side. But I defended well against a bunch of college kids home on break. I didn't have much burst, as I feel overall weak. But my balance was great, especially skating backwards. It was such a great feeling afterwards. I forgot the rush of adrenaline-fueled brain chemicals you get after good competition. It was like I was high, or having an out of body experience lol. When I got back to work, it was as if I had drank 2 pots of starbucks high octance coffee. So that's a big check in the box next to one of my big goals. Sore today, but completely worth it. My pads fit really well too, which was an unexpected perk. Another NSV I had at the gym. You know those stupid little towels they give you that are made out of sandpaper so you dont steal them? I was able to wrap one around my titanic butt and stay covered on my walk to the shower! Hallu-freakin-lujah! Previously i had to choose a region to conceal and hold the towel in place lol. TMI I know, but some of you have probably been there done that. Happy day for me! Jay

    Total NSV

I will start by saying I yoga and pilates. I have done them off and on now for years. I've always the same problem. Too much bulk. There would be to much of me to do some of the poses or positions. I went back to a pilates class today. And boy what a difference. I was able to stay in the different crunch positions without too much trouble. Loving how easy life is getting.
  13. Yesterday I was out with my wife and she drew my my attention to a man with a large belly. She said, "That is just what you used to look like." "Yes, and you used to constantly tell me to pull my jacked-up shirt back over my belly!" I said. "You haven't bugged me about that in a long time!" "Yes, I know!" she said with a big smile. She didn't want me walking around with half a hairy belly sticking out, I didn't think I could help it. The shirts I bought fit fine when I bought them, washed once they became belly shirts. I literally walked around with both hands stretching the shirt down over the beach ball so I wouldn't get the needle from her. Of course, she didn't like that either. Now the silence is golden. I no longer own a shirt which instigates a Jerry Springer scene.
  14. 4 months ago I used fear putting my clothes into a hot dryer due to fears of my jeans, sweaters and shirts shrinking and getting too small. Flash forward and now I put everything into the dryer without any reservations and sometimes I actually try to shrink my stuff! It's a small NSV , but a victory none the less for me. From a size 2xl to L in 3 1/2 months feels surreal to me still.
  15. The first NSV I am looking forward to is for my belly to not touch my legs.
  16. I wanted to fit comfortably in an airline seat - I now can with room to spare. Like you, I wanted to wear high heels - on Christmas Day, I wore 5" sparkly heels! And I wanted to go dancing and shake my thang without being stared at - and I have now done that on a few occasions and LOVED it! I am sure you will have many NSVs this year - enjoy every one!
  17. NSV = non scale victory For me it's being able to wear heels and more stylish clothes. I always felt it was hard to be feminine and morbidly obese. Carrying so much weight coupled with not a lot of clothing options just made me go for comfort. I'm hoping this changes this year.

    1 Yr Banndiversary

Hey Terry I remember when you cae on here you had posted about Califlower cheessticks it was just about this time as we were watching a football or had watched football and I wanted something, new to try instead of pizza for the get together and it seeed to be a hit and people were like what it's not bread or pizza lol so I so remember when you came on , and congats on your nsv's and bandeversery look how much you have gained lol health wise and how much you have lost , as I always let people know look at your before pics or the ones along the way side by side till now and you will notice what everybody else see's even if we don't.
  20. I am by no means ungrateful for the insane salary increase I just got, neither am I so gullible to think that after 9 years, they suddenly realize my value. No. I have been blessed with a $20k per year salary increase...and a hell of a lot less responsiblity. I know it's because of the way I look. I use to loathe women like that, the ones that get things their way just because of the way they look. I now realize that it's not their fault. Blame hormones, if you're attractive to men or women in power you just go further. I'm not complaining. I love my band "Miss Pearlie"! She has given me a brand new life...not just a better version of the one I had before, which was still pretty awesome.

    Tub NSV

Ok I know I am not the first to have this NSV, but I certainly am loving it! I decided to take a bath this a.m. Due to bad weather and a sick kid I stayed home from work today. My daughter was in her room laying down so I thought I would hop in the tub. My friend gave me fizzy balls for the bath and I wanted to use them. Typically I don't take baths. Not only is it a huge effort to get in and out, I felt wedged in the tub. Last bath I took I was literally touching every side of the tub at once. My hips barely fit. Anyway, I still have a small difficulty getting up and down, mainly worried about bad knees. But once I sat down I realized I had room! Not huge, but about an inch on each side of my hips!!! Woo hoo! I laid back to soak and realized it was so much more comfortable to do that too. I have decided I need to buy more bath products now because I see a lot more of these soaks in my future!
