I'm 5 days out and I'm getting a mild cramp when I drink water. Jello, broth, yogurt ect. go down well. I'm drinking slowly and taking small sips, but still get the cramp and a little bit of gas/air comes up. How long does this last? Am I taking in too much? No nausea yet so I've been lucky. Pureed food is looking really good about now but I'm following the plan. I've had absolutely no hunger or maybe I can't tell due to the abdominal pain.

SEPTEMBER 2018 SURGERIES AND SUCCESS
nibble replied to Frustr8's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm sorry you are having such difficulties, Frustr8! Sometimes we just have to take things one moment at a time, rather than one day at a time. Here's hoping things will improve for you soon! I started adding collagen hydrolysate to most of my foods - it is heat tolerant, unlike most whey proteins, so can be added to soups, cottage cheese, yogurt, coffee, tomato juice, mashed potatoes... I have to add a capsule of tryptophan to each scoop to make it a complete protein, but that's easy peasy. I just cannot tolerate too much of the Unjury whey protein isolate, so the collagen has been a real boon to me, making it easy to get my daily protein total where it needs to be. -
Creamers are high in sugar, generally...and heavy cream is high in fat. I know a lot of people like the flavored ready to drink premier protein shakes as a coffee creamer. They have chocolate, caramel, etc! Protein coffee! For softies I like low fat cottage cheese, soups of all kinds (blended so they're not chunky, no pasta or rice), yogurts like triple zero by oikos. Once I could have beans I also liked vegetarian refried beans with some mild taco sauce and cheese, thinned out a little. Laughing cow cheese wedges are low in calories, carbs and fat. Good luck!! I got sleeved 11/8 and am on a full liquid diet with soft foods to come next. Would love to know your favorites for this diet. Best protein shakes, yogurts, other liquids? Best soft foods? Also I’ve received mixed feedback on whether or not I can have cream in my coffee. Thoughts? Thank you!!

Hello everyone, I am POD 10 now. I saw my NP yesterday for a f/u visit and she tells me I'm doing well..... Anyway, I have been experiencing a right upper abdominal burning pain lately, worse with hunger which wakes me up in the middle of the night when it comes on. The pain reduces once I take in a few bites of my dilluted yogurt, but returns after a couple of hours. Has anyone experienced this? What should i be considering as a factor? My NP did not comment on that but I requested for an h-pylory test which is pending. Thanks. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930AZ using BariatricPal mobile app

I am 3 weeks post op. Can someone please tell many how many ounces I’m supposed be eating of cream soups, ricotta cheese, plain nonfat Greek yogurt, etc?
-
I was sleeved on 11/1. I can now drink all of my required water and protein shakes. I am also having Chicken Broth, Yogurt and sugar free jello. Talking about hunger, my stomach is not hungry, but I have cravings (head hungry). It gets better if I drink Broth or Tea. Glad to see that you are doing so well !!

I'm seriously going to try and remember this brand. I guess I'm a yogurt lover now after my tummy decided to like things new.

Siggi’s 0%. Icelandic style yogurt. High protein like Greek, not very sweet. I love it.

@Kathy10/22 My surgery was 3 weeks before yours, and I don't think my team allows toast or crackers for me, yet. At two weeks, I was supposed to be eating soft foods. In rough order of "difficulty," my team's list went about like this: yogurt, ricotta, cottage cheese, refried beans, soft-cooked eggs, tuna in water (which I've only ever tried as a tuna salad with Greek yogurt), baked fish that "flakes" (still haven't tried that), thin-sliced deli meat, chicken cooked in a crock pot, ground turkey, other ground meat, and soups and chilis that haven't been blended. I don't remember if they explicitly listed hummus, but that's only a little bit more of a challenge than refried beans. Veggies that were really, really well cooked are also OK (no broccoli or cauliflower stems, but the tops are OK), as are canned fruits (in juice, not syrup), but getting in all of my protein with my allowed three meals is so hard, still, that I haven't had a lot of fruit or vegetables. I've managed all that, and I also do fine with chicken satay, hamburgers (no bread or veggies, just the patty), meatballs, and string cheese... but I only tried those things after I worked through the list my team gave me. I think they may clear me to move carefully into non-soft foods at my appointment this upcoming week. I very much want crackers, but I'm nervous about trying them. Maybe with something very soft on top.

Yesterday morning I got sleeved. I was so scared and full of anxiety, but the doctors and team were incredibly kind and reassuring. I stayed overnight in the hospital and am home today. So far I’ve been able to keep down yogurt, cream of wheat, applesauce and butternut squash pear soup. I’m eating everything very slowly and in small quantities. The worst part of the experience so far was being on the liquid diet 24 hours before surgery. The lack of food triggered a migraine, which made me nauseous, which made the headache even worse. I dry heaved for hours, and at 12am my husband drove me to the hospital early so I could get fluids and zofran for the nausea. They couldn’t give me anything for the headache pain because I might not have been able to go under anesthesia a few hours later. Then we waited around at the hospital until my 5:30am check in time because we live an hour away from the hospital and it didn’t make sense to drive all the way home. So if you get migraines too, I recommend getting zofran from your doctor BEFORE you get sick like I did. Overall, my pain is being managed well and I feel optimistic and hopeful. It’s a great feeling after months of worrying what will happen. Now the surgery is over and it’s simply about following instructions and doing the next right thing. I am on the full liquid phase diet. My doc said I could even have a latte! If you have any advice for me at this stage, I’d appreciate any insights.

I use the Walmart brand light greek yogurt in all kinds of yummy flavors and the name brand has plenty of flavor choices like Tiramisu and Pumpkin Pie. The Walmart brand has 6 grams of sugar. I never liked yogurt until I tried the greek because of the thickness. I guess I like some thickness. lol

I wanted to know if anyone could suggest some good yogurts? All the ones I’ve looked at are just way to high in sugar.

Dang! I haven't had peanut butter in a while. I usually grind my own or do Laura Scudders, but before surgery I bought a jar of creamy Skippy to make a low carb pb cookie recipe for my sissy and it's been hanging out in the pantry lurking and looking miserable. I also have peanut butter powder from Vitacost lurking around that I still add to green smoothies and yogurt. So yesterday I made up some Peanut Butter Slim (Vitacost pb powder) and added 12g of Skippy to it to make it "stickier" and had it with part of a Granny Smith apple (2oz). The apple was lovely and tart. But dang!!!! The peanut butter is so stinking sweet. I started laughing about how my taste perceptions have changed. I rarely if ever ate sweets before. Sometimes I will have a piece of 85% or 90% Lindt, or will have some stevia sweetened something. But this really gobsmacked me how sweet peanut butter tasted! Have y'all noticed anything like that with other foods? -
In my pre op liquid diet I was only allowed cottage cheese and yogurt other than the fluids. That sucked. Broth was a blessing because even now, I'm sick of fruity flavored stuff. But I enjoy a meal replacement with my protein shake frozen to about slushy consistency. I know you said you don't like the protein shakes, but have you tried various ones? GNC makes a bunch of different brands and flavors I was allowed pre and post op and if you try it and don't like it, you can take it back in and swap it for another flavor. I was seen plenty at GNC until I found my faves. I have a cappuccino ( I love coffee) that I add black coffee instead of milk or water and slushify it. I didn't like milk based shakes as much as water. The milk changes the texture. After surgery I really didn't like the ones with milk like Premier Protein.

How much Protein were you hitting right after post-op?
vsgnewbie77 replied to vsgnewbie77's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Same! I tried and got a couple of protein waters in and I really can't get them down. Protein shakes are also a struggle for me. Water and iced tea (decaf) seem to be working the best for me and I have been trying to get in some very soft tofu (blended) so at least there's some protein there. I'm hitting my water goals so I'm happy to get that at least. I'm okay with regular yogurts but it does take me a while to finish the whole thing. The drinkable ones might be easier, I'll try those. Thank you! -
Obviously dumping is something that most wls patients fear and all want to try and avoid it. But after reading countless articles and threads I find it all very confusing. There are some food which are obvious triggers e.g alcohol, high fat and high sugar foods. But what I am curious about are things like fruit - fruit is very high in sugar but a lot of the articles and recommended diet plans include fruit as an ok food. This confuses me. Are certain fruits better than others? Is fruit ok but only in very small quantities? I am also wondering if "food combining" helps. Is eating fruit with protein e.g yogurt better than eating it on its own? Does this apply to other foods as well? We all know how before going to a party and consuming lots of alcohol people would "line" their stomachs with a glass of milk. Does this kind of approach work for bariatric patients? I am also interested in if there is anything that can be done to relieve or reduce a dumping episode once it starts? Obviously there isn't a lot that can be done if the dumping gives you the trots but what if your symptoms are the shaky, lightheaded , palpitations kind of symptoms? Usually people with hypoglycaemia need to get instant , easy to digest sugar but if sugar is the cause then its not going to help.

Do you have a Treat, what is it, and how often.
Kay07 replied to %^&'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sea salt caramel Yasso bars... may be Greek yogurt but they still pack a sugar punch so I limit myself to only having one on those days where I am rewarding myself for not punching someone 😊 (It’s easy to ration them since they are kind of pricey. I try not to have one more than once a week. -
How much Protein were you hitting right after post-op?
jultrim18 replied to vsgnewbie77's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi! Very little. The protein water was disgusting and the shakes gave me diarrhea. All I focused on was water and drinkable yogurts like the Dannon ones. They were so good and sweet. Don’t worry too much about protein now. Just make sure you are hydrated. -
Starving still... regret seriously increasing
Hrsnjs replied to mousecat88's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
What Fluffy said is totally true. Even soft foods do not fill you up like substance. When you're having to chew chew chew, those things sit heavy and fill me up with just a couple of ounces (eggs, turkey sausage, that kind of thing). When eating yogurt or cottage cheese or things like that, I can probably hold double before feeling full. As soon as you're past the mushies I bet you feel better after eating. Hang in there, this is weird for all of us newbies! Sent from my moto g(6) play using BariatricPal mobile app -

So I have been starving and I’m at a week and a half post op. I agree with Fluffy, drink drink drink. Are you allowed low cal, low fat geek yogurt? Even a third of one really fills me up. I’m also learning to differentiate Head hunger from real hunger which is very hard. Broth really helped me with the hunger. It felt like more than just fluid. -
