I'm freaking HUNGRYYYY! Eeerrrrgggg!
crazyplantlady replied to SiSSi829's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe find a new doctor? A different surgeon for better advice. I think your doctor is trying to force you to lose more weight with such an extended post-op diet... maybe he sensed a lack of total self control? Eating bacon, Cereal, and milk is certainly more than your stomach can handle right now. All doctors will agree on that. Your stomach is not producing the necessary enzymes and acids to break down such rich food, and you can damage your new stomach. Everyone makes mistakes, but it's important to understand why they are mistakes and learn from them. Harshness isn't going to help you to do that, instead you'll lash out and defend your mistakes, which is not the right reaction either. That being said, at least you didn't do anything more drastic. If you're feeling weak, it's time to start experimenting with different Protein sources. They'll help and be within your dietary restrictions. GENEPRO, unjury, premier, etc etc Lots of different protein powders and shakes, there's something to suit everyone's taste! I can't handle thick textures and overly sweet either, so I love genepro because it just adds a milky taste to anything I mix it with. -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?
Medic5301 replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone! Today is my two week post op mark. I've been on puréed foods since the 1st. I have to say that cottage cheese is the best thing so far. I just tried some mashed potatoes thinned out with some gravy and it was good but I could only have 4 bites before getting full. I am still struggling with protein goals. I can't tolerate the shakes post surgery, they make me feel sick. The GENEPRO will be here Thursday I hope that works out. I have been staying hydrated the best I can. It just feels like I'm non stop sipping on something just to get the required amount of fluid so I don't dehydrate. Fourth of July weekend was hard. Everyone was having burgers and hotdogs and I was having 4oz of cottage cheese. Oh well. The best part was this morning when I stepped on the scale... I'm down over 20lbs!! How can I take 70g of protein a Day HELP!
xochtlem replied to leonelbreton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Syntrax nectar, Isopure, and GENEPRO are my best friends. I just started puréed food yesterday and was able to get most of my Protein from food. For bkfst I made a green strawberry & spinach smoothie with coconut Water and a scoop of Genepro. Each scoop is only a tbsp and 30g protein. You can add it into anything, it's great. A lot of times I add it to unsweetened applesauce. Then for a mid-morning snack I used a Hillshire Snacking pack (grilled chicken bites) and puréed the chicken with the honey mustard dipping sauce. Each pack is 15g protein and 120 cal. It was delicious. lunch was a pack of lemon pepper tuna mixed with a couple tsp mayo, puréed. That was only about 123 cal and 18g protein. And dinner I puréed some grilled chicken and hummus, with a couple of pitted kalamata olives thrown in. That was about 200 cal and 20g protein. In between all of that I drink as much water or Syntrax Nectar (if I need protein) as I can. Some days I don't hit 64 oz but I try to get as close as possible. Syntrax makes it easier to hit liquid and protein simultaneously. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

For those of you that are having trouble with Protein shakes. I too find them making me feel ill post surgery. I have been using GENEPRO by Musclegen Research for over a week now and it has been great. I put it in almost everything. One tablespoon is 30 grams. So it is easy to get between 60 and 90 grams in a day. I've put it in cottage cheese, yogurt, Soup, mashed potatoes, almost everything! No taste whatsoever!! Seriously it's been great. It was recommended buy my nutritionist. I'm thankful she did. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

One week and one day out. No more pain. Never had nausea. I can't stand protein shakes now. I am using genepro to get my protein in. Mixing it diet juice or creamy soups. I'm not hungry at all. I slept on my side again last night which was heavenly. -
Protein shakes?
rspk1963@gmail.com replied to allisonmarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, premier protien shakes 30 grams are good. They just came out with banana and caramel. Atkins 20 grams has some drinks that are good too. I was also told about genepro powder 30 grams odorless, tasteless and can be mixed in hot and cold into anything. I found it in one of my GNC'S or else they have it online. Good luck. -
WHATS THE BEST PROTEIN POWDER
kellym1220 replied to Jennie4315's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would say do not over-invest! I bought every protein powder known to man and recommended on here. You should try and get samples to figure out what you like...not just buy them all willy-nilly! (Like me!). My favorite, though, is Genepro which is pretty much flavorless and can be mised with almost anything (refried beans, SF jello, any recipe) to boost protein. I also use Premier Protein or Fairlife Vanilla pre-mixed in my coffee each morning. Good luck!! -

Icky Protein Drinks!
wannaBthinsoon replied to dmaddox1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Syntrax nectar is far superior to these. GENEPRO unflavored, as well. However, Not sure if you can buy these locally. I had to purchase online. -
I do 8-10 ounces of milk with a serving of genepro each morning instead of a shake. It's not too sweet.

I think I figured it out
Yadifan replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn’t tolerate shakes after surgery and still can’t. I went to gnc and bought genepro. I mix it in with my water and some crystal light flavoring and that’s what I use instead of shakes. -
Protein Shake problem
gwbicster replied to Jerseygirl21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure if you are aware of the controversy regarding Genepro, just FYI. I am a user and am happy with it, BUT... It is physically impossible for 30 grams of anything in a tablespoon. The real figure is 15 grams. However, Genepro claims a propriatary formula which allows for better absorption of the protein which is equivalent to 30 grams of the competitor's formula. Many people think this is poppycock. I have read the documentation and tend to believe it is at least in part possible. However, they are being sued for false advertising. Just a FYI. Buyer beware. -
I've tried a few and lots don't taste too good and the ones that do taste good have tons of sugar but I love the gnc ones choc strawberry vanilla I don't care for the Orange cream by the way they will let u sample the ready to drink ones I asked lol also isopure ready to drink is good expensive tho gnc has great products I shop there get the yearly membership it's 15$ and u get a discount when shopping one or two trips pays for it and they frequently have bogo 50% off sales it's worth it they recommend the big black container gosh I can't recall the brand and the gnc women's lean choc prices are better for the powder and u mix it yourself also they have the shaker bottles with the little metal whisk inside those are awesome u can buy those at bedbathandbeyond too also the gnc powder ones in the white containers have seasonal favors like now they have banana, pumpkin like that I'm still pre op but trying things to see what I can tolerate when I first tried the gnc lean shakes ready to drink I got them at rite aid a local drug store that sells gnc products they had single bottles so I got a couple to try before buying large quantitys they were very friendly and helpful at gnc seemed very knowledgable about what they sell hope this helps also I've read many positive posts here re genepro protein powder check it out at musclegen.com it's a powder u can put in any liquid food or soup hot or cold and doesn't clump smell or taste bad tho I hear it stinks in the pkg lol but not in the food or drink and its a high protein amount and I think only one scoop is needed I plan to try it ok anyway good luck msg me anytime

Can't take enough fluids :(
Kindle replied to naan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used Un jury unflavored protein and you can mix it in anything up to 140 degrees. That was warm enough for me. supposedly genepro can be mixed with anything at any temperature. Never tried it. And I rarely cook, much less make soup, so they all came from a can, box or whatever the daily specials were at the local deli or soup/salad bar at the whole food store. -
Can't take enough fluids :(
BLERDgirl replied to naan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kindle gave some good suggestions. As for where to buy unflavored Protein there are brands such as Prosource, GENEPRO and Isopure. Prosource and Genepro are available online only as afar as I know, but Isopure can be purchased at GNC or Vitamin Shoppe. All 3 can be mixed with cold or hot beverages. Do not get discouraged if you don't like the first Protein Drink you buy or even the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. I went through several before I found protein I liked that didn't trigger my allergies. Water is important, but as long as you get in some type of fluids, you won't get dehydrated. However you have to get in something. Don't suffer with a beverage you can't stand. -
So.... going back to work definitely heightened my anxiety PLUS the fact that I've only lost 15lbs since April 25th. What I do now is take a walk thru the building when my anxiety kicks in at work. I put up a "restroom" sign & start walking. It has helped my anxiety tremendously, however this stubborn weight is taking its time to leave me. I purchased Genepro protein to ensure I get all my protein in. Try walking more with deep breaths in & out for your anxiety. I wish you the best of luck!!!

Protein Ideas? HELP! 2 weeks post
champagne301 replied to nanno90's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only out 2 or so weeks too, but these have saved me so far, Unflavored Genepro - It's only 1T and gives 30 grams of protein, and I mix it into jello, chicken broth or creamed soups. I also do Syntrax's Nectar and Matrix brand protein powder drinks...I found one that I absolutely LOVE, Matrix Mint Chocolate Chip Cookie. It tastes like a shamrock shake, and I could drink this every day w/o issues! I'm sure other's will have great ideas too, Good luck! -

Isopure unflavored protein powder...how do you use it?
BLERDgirl replied to Jim in Utah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's a matter of taste. I like it and add it to pretty much everything. Soups, tea, my yogurt, etc.... If you don't like Ispoure Genepro and Syntrax Nectar also make and unflavored version. Remember unflavored doesn't mean flavorless, it just means there's no added flavorings or sugars. Adding stronger flavors to it helps. I add a dash of hot sauce to my soups or a bit of lemon to my tea. -
Genepro Unflavored Protein
Dairymary replied to KristenLe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm long past the Protein supplementation stage, but I asked my daughter about GENEPRO (she's a doctor). She could not find any clinical studies or nutritional analyses that support the company's claims. The science behind the product is based on insitu experiments (meaning in a test tube) and theories projected from studies of other products. She couldn't say if it was good or bad, just that there have never been any published trials that measures the actual bioavailability and absorbability of Genepro. These are very basic, simple studies that even dog and cat food have to go through for the nutritional profiles printed on the bags. It is not an FDA approved product and Until this company proves their claims with clinical trials, she considers it just snake oil. Seems to me the company could legitimize itself and its product by simply conducting these basic trials (if the product really is what they claim). But on the other hand, they've got millions of customers buying their products with no proof whatsoever that it's anything but a white powder that dissolves in Water, so I guess strategic marketing trumps science in this case. -
Genepro Unflavored Protein
ShelterDog64 replied to KristenLe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Genepro claims to make 30g of protein bioavailable in a 1T scoop. 1T is 14-ish g of weight, depending on what the item being measured is. People don't believe the electrophoresis process can refine the protein into a more bioavailable form. I have access to enough science-y people who say that it's quite possible and actually very likely. It's up to each person to determine whether they are Genepro fans or not, but what it boils down to for me is that it's at the very least 15g/T and it's the only protein powder I can stand the smell/taste/texture of, so I use it. I've lost 63 lbs since the end of June and am on track for my interim goals to my larger goal, so I consider it a good product FOR ME and will continue to use it unless something changes.
