  3. I tried so hard to wait a week to get on the scale but I stepped on anyway today (3 days post op) and I've GAINED 2 pounds!!!! Help! Should I cut out the protein shakes I just started yesterday? And go back to just all clear liquids!!?
  4. I was sleeved 12/10 I ended up staying in the hospital 2 extra days because my heart rate was so unbelievably high. The first week I lost 10lbs and my doctor sped up my diet because I wasn't getting enough Calories. He told me to start soft foods over the weekend because I couldn't keep down purees. I have been religious about getting all my fluids (between 69-78 oz a day) and have been struggling to meet my protien goal. I have been walking and working out as much as I can stand but get EXTREMELY worn out very quickly. I have gained back 6 lbs of the 10 I lost the first week. I never get full or stuck/sick feeling. I feel like I am constantly hungry. It is really bumming me out and making me think the surgery didn't work. Is this weight gain normal? Is there something I am doing wrong or need to do better?
  5. I had my surgery yesterday. I lost almost 30 during my pre op diet. Why is it today my weight is up about 6 pounds? I've only had clear liquids and meds.
  6. As most of you know I have been dealing with a lot of spine problems that have progressively gotten worse over the last 6 months. I had surgery 4 weeks ago to have an old non working neurostimulator removed. They believed that the surgically placed leads were somehow causing this severe nerve pain across my back and radiating into my right rib cage. Honestly this pain has been some of the worst I have ever felt in my life and having severe osteoarthritis in my spine in other places is pretty severe. This pain is even worse. Anyway, we have to wait another 4 to 6 weeks to do an MRI to ensure they don't address artifacts from the surgery I had. prior to this they did do a CT scan which showed a Schwarnoma (benign tumor) on one of my nerve roots in my thoracic spine. Today when the doc examined me we discovered that I have numbness both on my back and my right front rib cage. He believes it is this Schwarnoma on my T11 level that is causing all of this and is not wanting to order an MRI. Instead he wants me to remain on both Vicodin and now gabapentin to see if that helps. If that don't work he wants to do epidural injections and consider putting a new neurostimulator in. I will not agree to that plan. Anyway, he did say that gabapentin can cause weight gain. I have never taken this drug and I am guessing because of how I eat and my bypass tool, the weight gain should not be an issue. I am wondering if anyone is experiencing weight gain with gabapentin and if so do you have tips and tricks on the weight gain front? I have worked very hard to get nearly to my goal and I am very restricted on exercise. I have to be honest I really am nervous about this approach but I am willing to give it a try because this pain has literally stopped me in my tracks. It has been going on since June and it actually overwhelmed me. I have very good coping skills and I normally would not take narcotics but no matter what I do this particular pain has really gotten the best of me. So I am willing to try it but just wondering if anyone has experience with this drug post operative. Thanks for your help!
  7. I am a little bit nervous about the weight I gained after Thanksgiving holiday. I had my last weigh in on 11-19 and did not get approval until 12-11. I called the surgeons office and a rude receptionist told me that my surgeon was booked for the rest of the year. Well, I gained weight after my last real Thanksgiving and have not been able to get any of it off. My surgeon's office called me today to schedule my consultation for 12-17 and I am nervous about how the surgeon will feel about the weight gain. My insurance Anthem does not require weight loss for the surgery. I am freaking out! Should I really be worried about this since I have not yet started my pre op diet? Btw, my surgery is on 12-28.
  8. I am 8 months post op and I feel afraid to eat,, I don't want to gain weight back!!!
  9. After you get approved by your insurance to have the WLS, is there anyway you can be denied if you gain weight before you have the surgery?
  10. I need help. I am 3 years out having had the vertical sleeve surgery February 2013. I went from 220 lbs to 134 at my lowest weight. I felt amazing! I fluctuated from 135 to 140 and that was fine by me but over the past year my weight is now around 154 lbs. I'm hungry and overeat all the time. Don't get me wrong, I'm miserable after I eat that much but I have continued to over eat. If anyone can tell me how to get back on track I would deeply appreciate it. Thank you for any information you can provide. Sincerely, Linda H.
  11. Hi there - Sleeved on 11/12 ... Home from the hospital yesterday. How long until the gas goes away and I can see the progress on and off the scale? Thanks! Becca
  12. Hey guys... Ok so i got sleeved on 10/06. As of 3 days ago. my weightloss was of 40 pounds. But today, when I got on the scale, I was up 4 pounds. Im freaking out a little bit... I hope it doesn't continue to climb.... Anyone had a similar experience? Thanks for sharing any thoughts or advice with me.
  13. I'm bummed. I'm up 10 lbs from my last weigh in which was probably two months ago. Since then I have stopped swimming 4-5 miles per week and have had rotator cuff surgery, was in a sling for 6 weeks and am in third week of PT so very little physical activity. I have eaten more carbs than usual the last few days and in the process got glutened which also causes me Fluid retention. In addition I am also premenstrual, worth 5 pounds alone. So, it seems the perfect storm...my preop workup is Monday so I'm hoping some of the gluten or premeunstral fluid is gone by then. I have not gained anyting since the surgery and then all of a sudden BOOM. I hope fluid retention does not cause a delay to my surgery, if my pre-op were on Wed instead I'd probably have shed that whole ten pounds. I've never been given specific instruction about having to lose a certain amount of weight or anything. Through this whole process 'i lost some then gained a pile right after surgery which must have been related to the surgery because 5 days later I was weighed and it was gone. I just have a tendency to retain fluid. But WHY does it have to be now?????
  14. I just got back to work after being out a month for surgery. I've been stuck at 220 for over a week and have even gained. Not sure how I eat 2 bites and I'm done. I'm eating mostly protein because that is all my pouch likes. I'll have a 30 calorie monster every once in a while for some caffeine. I don't understand this stall so soon. I walk but can't excersize a lot due to low energy. (which I will be talking to my surgeon about on Monday. ) Should I revert back to soup and protein shakes again? I'm getting water and I'm drinking 1 protein shake a day like my diet sheet says to at this stage. Any advice?
  15. Since being sleeved on the 21st of October, I've been weighing myself daily. In the last 3 days I haven't lost and in fact I think I went up a pound or two. Is this normal? I'm feeling a little discouraged. I can now have mushy foods and creamy soups and I have been. Did I move too fast to the next stage of food?
  16. So I have been walking everyday and not changing my diet for the worse. I haven't been eating great but my surgery us Nov. 9 and my Pre-op first is set for Nov. 1. I have gained so much weight!! Is it stress? Water? What? It's making me so nervous for my physical. I have been approved and the date is set. There is no way I won't have it right? God I'm so scared!! And I have no clothes that fit me cause I'm gaining. I just bought some sweatpants and I look like..well I hate it! I wish my surgery was yesterday I'm so anxious!
  17. Hello everyone! I have Cigna and am required to do the 6 month weight loss supervised plan. Oct. 29, is my last appointment before everything gets submitted to ins. My BMI is 38.3 and I have osteoarthritis, sleep apnea (newly diagnosed) and borderline HTN. My question is will I get denied for weight gain? Will my PCP write my letter of medical necessity? I don't know what to do to lose weight???!! I am keeping a journal and have not went over my calorie intake that my pcp put me on but I'm still gaining instead of losing. I'm wondering if eating too much protein can cause you to gain weight because I have upped my protein intake substantially. Anyone got any advice for me? Anyone with Cigna gain weight during the 6 month waiting period and still get approved? Please help!!
  18. I am in no way complaining here nor do I worry about something being wrong. I'd been warned about this happening. I just find the phenomenon to be interesting. I weighed this morning, my 3rd day after surgery. The scales read 6 pounds higher than on the morning of my surgery. I've been getting 2-3 Protein shakes plus 60-120 ounces of Water down each day. I'm trying to get my water intake elevated today (40 ounces already at 7:00am) as well have more mobility than yesterday. I'm sure once my body adjusts and the abdominal swelling goes down so will my weight. Do you remember how much, if any, that you picked up from the surgery? How long before you body flushed the fluids out ? I'm guessing that at some point during his coming weekend I'll have that breakthrough and see a big drop on the scale.
  19. 5 weeks after surgery, initially had been down 21 lbs and last 2 weeks I gained 4. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Feeling down for fear this didn't work for me.

    Weight gain....

So I was sleeved in July 2014, and lost 70 pounds in 5 months!!! Then it stopped...it has been 10 months since I have lost anything. What's worse is I have gained 10 pounds! Now in July this year I saw my surgeon and we discussed my weight and he said to up my exercise and I have....work out at a gym now with a trainer 3-4 days a week....I am very careful as to what I eat. I guess my question is has this happened to anyone else?? My surgeon did tell me that if in 6 months there is still no change he would do the bypass revision...just scared to have another surgery...
  22. Some people undergo WLS and lose significant weight only to gain some or all of it back years later. I asked my nutricianist "Why". Her response was grazing. Grazing is to eat small portions of food, as appetizers or the like, in place of a full-sized meal or to snack during the course of the day in place of regular meals. A recent study by University of California, Berkeley, may have found a correlation between sleep and body mass index (BMI). Breakfast and breakfast skipping is associated with weight gain.” This study seems to go hand-in-hand with another study. Another recent study found that reducing the eating window (the hours per day that one eats) reduces weight. http://acsh.org/2015/09/picture-this-a-food-app-that-could-improve-public-health/ The results from this study published in Cell Metabolism showed that the majority eat over a 15-hour period each day. Some research suggests that limiting the “eating window” to 10-12 hours per day may contribute to weight loss. Their sample size was small, but of their volunteers interested in weight loss researchers set the smart phone app to help them restrict food intake to a 10-hour window. Without changing the types of food they were eating over 13 weeks, this volunteer group lost an average of 3.5 percent of their initial weight per person. So it appears that to maintain the weight loss after you reach the Maintenance stage, one needs to control "Grazing". This includes limiting your "eating window" to around 10-12 hours per day and getting the nominal 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
  23. I'm so nervous I gained 2 pounds in between my 2 required NUT appointments. I was also on 2 steroids for bronchitis surfing this time. The NUT said it could be from that, but I am extremely nervous that my insurance will now deny due to the gain. Ugh. Anyone else have this happen? Wht was your outcome? I have BCBS of SC.
  24. I'm still pre op. I don't have my surgery until December. However I quit smoking in June because first I was tired of smoking and two I heard it wasn't good to smoke if I'm gonna have surgery. I have gained ten pounds during my 6 month diet documentation per my insurance. My doctor hadn't said anything and my insurance didn't say I had to lose weight before surgery. But maaaannnn I swear I didn't want to gain during this time.
  25. So I am about 5 weeks pre-op. How many of you gained weight before going on the liquid diet? I don't feel that I am going nuts but it is SOOOO easy for me to gain that just by relaxing and eating the things I normally wouldn't, I have started gaining :-( I am perpetually on a limited eating plan / diet to try and lose weight (which obviously doesn't work) and now am eating things I typically wouldn't like bread, milk, Cereal etc. Anyway, I don't want to jeopardize the surgery but I will do the two week liquid diet, just wondering how many of you gained once you had made the decision to do the surgery?
