I wanted to know if anyone could suggest some good yogurts? All the ones I’ve looked at are just way to high in sugar.

Dang! I haven't had peanut butter in a while. I usually grind my own or do Laura Scudders, but before surgery I bought a jar of creamy Skippy to make a low carb pb cookie recipe for my sissy and it's been hanging out in the pantry lurking and looking miserable. I also have peanut butter powder from Vitacost lurking around that I still add to green smoothies and yogurt. So yesterday I made up some Peanut Butter Slim (Vitacost pb powder) and added 12g of Skippy to it to make it "stickier" and had it with part of a Granny Smith apple (2oz). The apple was lovely and tart. But dang!!!! The peanut butter is so stinking sweet. I started laughing about how my taste perceptions have changed. I rarely if ever ate sweets before. Sometimes I will have a piece of 85% or 90% Lindt, or will have some stevia sweetened something. But this really gobsmacked me how sweet peanut butter tasted! Have y'all noticed anything like that with other foods? -
In my pre op liquid diet I was only allowed cottage cheese and yogurt other than the fluids. That sucked. Broth was a blessing because even now, I'm sick of fruity flavored stuff. But I enjoy a meal replacement with my protein shake frozen to about slushy consistency. I know you said you don't like the protein shakes, but have you tried various ones? GNC makes a bunch of different brands and flavors I was allowed pre and post op and if you try it and don't like it, you can take it back in and swap it for another flavor. I was seen plenty at GNC until I found my faves. I have a cappuccino ( I love coffee) that I add black coffee instead of milk or water and slushify it. I didn't like milk based shakes as much as water. The milk changes the texture. After surgery I really didn't like the ones with milk like Premier Protein.

How much Protein were you hitting right after post-op?
vsgnewbie77 replied to vsgnewbie77's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Same! I tried and got a couple of protein waters in and I really can't get them down. Protein shakes are also a struggle for me. Water and iced tea (decaf) seem to be working the best for me and I have been trying to get in some very soft tofu (blended) so at least there's some protein there. I'm hitting my water goals so I'm happy to get that at least. I'm okay with regular yogurts but it does take me a while to finish the whole thing. The drinkable ones might be easier, I'll try those. Thank you! -
Obviously dumping is something that most wls patients fear and all want to try and avoid it. But after reading countless articles and threads I find it all very confusing. There are some food which are obvious triggers e.g alcohol, high fat and high sugar foods. But what I am curious about are things like fruit - fruit is very high in sugar but a lot of the articles and recommended diet plans include fruit as an ok food. This confuses me. Are certain fruits better than others? Is fruit ok but only in very small quantities? I am also wondering if "food combining" helps. Is eating fruit with protein e.g yogurt better than eating it on its own? Does this apply to other foods as well? We all know how before going to a party and consuming lots of alcohol people would "line" their stomachs with a glass of milk. Does this kind of approach work for bariatric patients? I am also interested in if there is anything that can be done to relieve or reduce a dumping episode once it starts? Obviously there isn't a lot that can be done if the dumping gives you the trots but what if your symptoms are the shaky, lightheaded , palpitations kind of symptoms? Usually people with hypoglycaemia need to get instant , easy to digest sugar but if sugar is the cause then its not going to help.

Do you have a Treat, what is it, and how often.

Sea salt caramel Yasso bars... may be Greek yogurt but they still pack a sugar punch so I limit myself to only having one on those days where I am rewarding myself for not punching someone 😊 (It’s easy to ration them since they are kind of pricey. I try not to have one more than once a week. -

Hi! Very little. The protein water was disgusting and the shakes gave me diarrhea. All I focused on was water and drinkable yogurts like the Dannon ones. They were so good and sweet. Don’t worry too much about protein now. Just make sure you are hydrated. -
Starving still... regret seriously increasing

What Fluffy said is totally true. Even soft foods do not fill you up like substance. When you're having to chew chew chew, those things sit heavy and fill me up with just a couple of ounces (eggs, turkey sausage, that kind of thing). When eating yogurt or cottage cheese or things like that, I can probably hold double before feeling full. As soon as you're past the mushies I bet you feel better after eating. Hang in there, this is weird for all of us newbies! Sent from my moto g(6) play using BariatricPal mobile app -

So I have been starving and I’m at a week and a half post op. I agree with Fluffy, drink drink drink. Are you allowed low cal, low fat geek yogurt? Even a third of one really fills me up. I’m also learning to differentiate Head hunger from real hunger which is very hard. Broth really helped me with the hunger. It felt like more than just fluid. -

I'm not still on liquids. I am on puree and some soft foods. Had chili, tuna, cottage cheese, and yogurt today. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Happy Birthday! Mine is on Sunday the 11th. I had ricotta cheese, butternut squash soup, mashed up avocado, yogurt and cream of potato soup. It has all stayed down so far I am just starting week 2 of my pureed foods.

Struggling with post op diet and calorie restriction.
BelleOfBatonRouge posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have been feeling frustrated, and I figured I would share with others who may have experienced it or currently feel this way. I was sleeved three weeks ago on 10-17. I am currently in a 4 week soft food stage- if I can mash it with a fork I’m allowed to have it. I have been slightly stretching what is and isn’t a soft food, and I worry I’m going down the wrong path. I am finding it very very frustrating to stay under 800 calories, but I don’t know if that’s because I am actually hungry or if it is all head hunger. I do feel like volume wise I am able to consume more that I should, or at least do it out of old habits. I also do occasion feel like a gnawing in my stomach, but I don’t know if that’s me being hungry or an ulcer (I’ve never had an ulcer and have had no issues with scid reflux, but I think that can sometimes be a sign?) Law school finals are in three weeks, and at this point during all past semesters I would be stress eating. It wasn’t healthy but god it was so much simpler. I do get around 80 grams of protein a day (sometimes more, sometimes less but never less than 60), and I do struggle a bit with water- I usually end up right at the 60-64 oz mark for the day, but I know it would be good to get more. Ultimately, I think my biggest battle is that I love to munch. I can’t wait until I can crunch into some freshly sliced cucumber with a tablespoon of Greek yogurt. I meet with the nutritionist on november 19 and I know that will help. I also will be seeing a therapist starting next week, because it’s free through my school so why not? In the mean time, I am scared and frustrated. I think week 3 has been the hardest, even compared to the immediate post op recovery of week 1. -
I am only about 3 months out bag. When I feel panicked about my choices or any guilt I just go back to the liquid diet, the premier protein, yogurt, for a couple days. Of course I am only 3 months out and it’s more in my head that feeling of guilt then me actually doing bad. Maybe that will help you.

My "go to" breakfast is Skyr (like greek yogurt, only less sugar) with a little granola and chia seeds. On weekends, I'll change it up and have oatmeal or shredded wheat for breakfast. Fresh fruits or veggies every day help to get in fiber, but I still can't eat a lot of them. 1 apple is more than enough for an entire meal and I sometimes have to split it into 2 meals/snacks. I eat beans or lentils whenever the opportunity arises. If I need a snack, I usually have a few nuts. That being said, I still feel like I'm a little deficient sometimes. I tried psyllium husk addition to smoothies or yogurt but because I eat so slow, it turns into a thick goo that I'm not terribly exited about eating. So, I found SF fiber gummies, which I usually take once a day. They're only 5% of daily fiber needs, but they make me feel like I'm at least making an effort. Plus, they feel like an after dinner treat. Been fortunate, I haven't really had issues with constipation. So, I guess I must be doing something right.

You can use decaf tea too. Just make sure your flavor combo works! I do like blueberry tea with vanilla Isopure and blueberries and spinach, or other Celestial Seasonings flavors. You just have to be sure everything is very well blended so you don't inadvertently get seeds that might still irritate you. I really liked peach tea blended with frozen peaches, yogurt, spinach, avo, etc. lol. or Premier peaches and cream shaken with green decaff or peach tea over ice is phenomenal! -

Hahahaha! I do think diluting them makes them go down easy, but I never had issues drinking anything liquid. Also if you hate prepared drinks, maybe consider making your own. You don't even have to use protein powder. You can use things like yogurt, cottage cheese, Fairlife FF milk. It will all add up. Add peanut butter powder, spinach, blueberries, avocado for creaminess--even walnuts and things. Then blend the crap out of it until it's TOTALLY smooth and homogenous. You thin it down with Fairlife FF milk until it's a drinkable comfortable consistency for your new anatomy. Then you control how sweet it is. I use liquid stevia and mine are way less sweet. One of my faves was Bananas and Cream (Isopure powder) mixed with decaff coffee blended with a bit of ice for a Cocomo Joe Frapp. I also loved Premier Protein Bananas and Cream shaken with decaff and served over ice. Really cut the sweetness and was liquid like iced coffee. But some do not tolerate the Whey Concentrate from Premier. -
11 weeks post-op, solid food not easy
FluffyChix replied to MassMom's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Also staying fully hydrated helps you pass things through your pouch and makes it "less sticky-ish." That was from Dr. Alvarez the bariatric surgeon. If you are at all dehydrated, it may take a couple of days to really replenish your fluid levels. To me, it makes all the diff in how I handle food and post prandial nausea. Also, if you're having issues with protein, use meat lube (low fat, low cal, low carb gravies, soupy stewpy things like your chili and for god's sake, don't overcook eggs! LOL.) Also soft cooked white flaky mild fish is usually pretty easy for most people, as can be soft scrambled eggs with yogurt or lite sour cream mixed in to make them creamy. Beans and cheese, or canned beans mashed with some yogurt or cheese go down easy. If it were me, I'd stay away from the obvious slider culprits. You're losing well now, but that habit is hard to shake and your weight loss WILL level off and you could potentially stall out. Sorry you are struggling. -
I can relate big time. We are on the same timeline, my DR advises that i do two week full liquid. Its tough drinking broth, protein shakes and greek yogurt on a cycle. I am looking forward to Wednesday this week, as i move onto the puree. To keep me focused I remember why I choose surgery as a weight loss option, also the sure knowledge that I am eliminating so many health ailments. I know it’s tough but hang in there. This too shall pass. Good luck on your journey.

@Yvonne47 My team gave me a list of soft foods to try after my post-op visit and suggested I work my way down it. Eggs were not at the top of the list, and even working up to them, the first time I had them they settled pretty heavily. (I wasn't sick, but I wasn't in a hurry to eat more eggs that week, either.) I had cottage cheese, ricotta, yogurt, and refried beans before eggs. Really moist tuna salad (made with plain yogurt instead of mayo and squished up very thoroughly with a fork) also settled better, for me. But I don't ever do runny yolks or any of that--if you do, eggs might go better for you, sooner, than they went for me. Anyway, good luck at your post-op visit!

I can totally relate to this. However my surgeon said to take it slow and I would know when I could move to the "mushie/pureed" stage. Well. I thought I was good to go because like you I wanted to chew something SO badly. But no, My stomach was not ready. Take it slow. I am almost 2 weeks post op and I've had some pureed foods but mostly sticking to yogurt and broth still. Everything else is hard to get down and hurts. Good luck!!!!!

Honestly when I wake up in the morning I grab a vitamin water zero and take all my meds . Then I head to the gym for about 90 min . Come home and either have a yogurt or scrambled egg . That’s pretty much my morning routine right now
