Nsv That I Still Can't Believe

This is an inspiring NSv! Yes you can do this and you are off to an awesome start
  2. I am 37, six months ago, I was 5'6" and weighed 373 pounds. My son has ran cross country for the last 2 years. I have been lucky to be able to watch him start, then take the parent shortcut to the finish line in time to see him finish. It has always bothered me that I couldn't help him train in any way. Today, I am still 5'6", but am now down to 270. This morning, my son and I participated in a 5k. Yes, he had to wait for me at this finish line, but I crossed it at 49:30' still able to sprint the last 40 yards. And I did not puke, pass out, or die. My 14 year old son, told me that he was proud of me today. I have had many nsv's, but none of them made me feel as good as this one. Worth it all, everyday and twice on Sunday. Much love O

    NSV?

NSV stands for non-scale victory. These include walking or running or climbing stairs without becoming breathless, fitting comfortably into airline seats, wearing smaller clothing sizes, resolution of health problems, etc.
  7. That's a wonderful NSV.. feel free to toot your own horn!! Great Work!
  8. GREAT NSV's! I have not changed sizes yet but hope it will be very soon! Keep up the good work!

    How to be Successful?

All well said by everyone. I've nothing to add other than to say - @@MarceMonster - You're headed in the right direction so keep on moving forward. Remember to Celebrate any and all non-scale victories (NSVs), i.e. inches lost, a smaller size slack/jacket/shorts, lessening of shortness of breath when exercising/walking/hiking, etc.
  10. Yesterday I went with a friend who was sleeved yesterday. She had other friends there whom I did not know. They were concerned for her because they knew nothing of this surgery. I explained to them she will be fine because I also had the surgery from the same doc. They started laughing and said oh now that explains it cause girlfriend we were just discussing amonst ourselves that we don't know who this girl is but her dress is too big for her and she needs some new clothes lol.

A Bit of a Silly NSV

    HEY That's a great nsv
  12. Yesterday I ran my first 5K, something I would have never been able to do pre-sleeve. I've always enjoyed bicycling, elliptical machines and working out in general, but, because of my weight, my knees could not handle the stress of running. So, with the sleeve, I started running 2 months ago and signed up for the Jingle Bell Run in Portland, OR. The race was yesterday and I completed it!!! Having never run a 5K (even during training) I didn't know what goal time to set for myself, so I extrapolated the distances I had run with times and figured if I could do it between 30 and 32 minutes, I would be happy. First goal, though was to actually run the whole thing and not stop and walk at any point. I was able to do that but when I crossed the finish line, my time was 26 minutes, 23 seconds!!! I was like HUH?! Did I just do that? There were over 4,000 runners/walkers. After the results were posted, I finished 400th overall, 228th man and 22nd for M45-49. I think I may have found my next additiction!!

What They Didn't Tell You - Part 1

"What I actually mean is, the speed you lose weight seems to have no bearing on the speed you gain your confidence. None whatsoever." This is so true! It has been almost 6 months and 90 lbs for me. I am dressing in nicer clothes and bought myself a belt and wore it with jeans for the first time yesterday. Wow! That stupid NSV was huge for me! I think my confidence is getting better, but I don't know that it is gaining at the same rate I am losing. By the way......I love your story about the tree....it works for little girl trees too, only girl trees look smaller...not the other way around. Isn't nature funny? :rolleyes2:

    Whats The Adverage Weekly Loss?

I don't think it is a good idea to ask that type of a question. The reason I say that is because everyone's weight loss journey is different. Weight loss depends on SOOOO many different things that it is very hard to predict. My Dr. told me that his goal is 15 pounds a month and that he knows it will come off faster at the first, but to keep that monthly average in mind as an ultimate goal. Start now with measuring yourself and do that on a regular basis. I have only been sleeved two weeks and I can see how important that step is. As we go down this journey, the goal is to increase our lean muscle mass (ultimately) and decrease the percentage of fat in our bodies. Many people report little weight loss but huge NSV (non-scale vistories) with inches lost. And at least for me, that will be enough (I think and hope).

    Nsv?

Love nsv's so happy for you
  16. Why oh why do you feel like a failure? You've lost 50 lbs. And you have to remember that without WLS, you likely would have gained quite a bit of weight so add that to your total. Also...get off the scale. It's just a number and you can lose even if the scale doesn't show it. Look for the NSVs instead of the weight loss. Are you wearing smaller sized clothing? Do you have more energy? Can you fit somewhere you couldn't before? These changes are as if not more important that the numbers. Don't concern yourself with what you thought you would lose...only concern yourself with what you have lost. 50 lbs. is nothing to sneeze at. Try to pick up something that weighs 50 lbs. I bet you can't. Remember...this is a lifelong journey so don't get bogged down in the time it takes to 'get there'. Good luck my friend!
  17. I had a pair of professional fitted slacks I have not worn in five years. No elastic whatsoever. They were tight even when I bought them. I tried them on a month ago and they were still tight at the waist. Today I tried them on and they are baggy!!!!! I'm wearing them but they kinda look like clown pants. Moral of the story is don't miss your clothing size window! Dig through that closet frequently. This made me very happy today. *clownish grin to go with my clown pants*
  18. :thumbup:Hey Everyone! I know it's a little early to be tooting my own horn, but I just had to share my excitment! Yesterday, my boyfriend told me,"You know, your skin is already clearing up!" and he is right!!!! I have been fighting acne due to my PCOS for YEARS, and now all of a sudden the condition has improved in the most amazing way! My skin is soft and smoothe without being too dry OR oily! I don't know if it is the pre-op diet that did it, or the surgery begining it's miracle working already, but I am psyched!
  19. Amazing on the NSV and I am OVERWHELMED that you passed the HVAC test!! I know that, at least in FL, that's one of the toughest tests you can take!! Congratulations on both major accomplishments!!!
  20. OK, so I am a low BMI lap-band revision sleever. My biggest body image problem is my stomach. I was HUGE when I was pregnant. My stomach was ridiculously large. So, I have the dreaded stomach skin hanging down. I have never been able to see my C section scar wthout lifting up my stomach - even at my lowest lap-band weight of 176. So, yesterday I was getting dressed and I looked in the mirror and there was one part of my stomach that had pulled up enough that I could see the scar!!!!!! Not the whole stomach, but a bit of it had pulled up. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!! I had to look at it again this morning to make sure it wasn't a fluke. This is better for me than any scale number. My stomach is the one thing that really makes me insecure. Now I feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. And, honestly, I can't believe it - it's only been 2 weeks. Thanks for letting me share--- Lara

    10 weeks out

My 1st 6 months was primarily about getting into good habits: *Learning to choose the right foods *Sticking with my diet guidelines - 75% Protein, 25% good carbs *Getting into a regular exercise routine - for me it was walking http://www.bariatricpal.com/blogs/entry/31216-nsv-2-you-best-step-off-b-hatch/ *Learning to have faith that WLS was going to work for me. I hit a stall about once every month, and it freaked me out each time. I had to learn to have confidence that what worked before would keep on working. My body just needed a time-out to adjust to this new way of life. I think those are the biggies. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.
