  1. I had my 4th fill on Saturday afternoon. I was told to be on liquids the rest of the day. (which I did) I could immediately tell the difference. I had trouble getting the liquid down. I did it... but it took a while. Sunday I advanced to having some chili. I could only have about 6 or 7 bites. For Snacks I could only eat half a yogurt Same thing is going on today. I tried having Soup for dinner but couldn't even eat a cup. I have had such a hard time getting the restriction I want (need) thus far. Is this the way it's supposed to be? I'm hesitant to get unfilled because I'm afraid of not enough restriction. Sorry to be a pain.... just looking for help before I decide what to do. (also...I seem to have the flu right now... could that make me tighter too?) Thanks guys!!

    Veterans: Sluggish bowels?

I'm vegetarian so I'm sure that plays a part. Lots of plant based foods full of Fiber. I am regular as clockwork and have been pretty much since day 5 post op. I go anywhere from 1 - 3 times a day, most days twice. I always have to go when I wake up and sometimes again after dinner. I find that on really active days, depending on what I've eaten I may go mid-day as well. Like the other posters have mentioned add some natural fiber in there. Apple or prune juice are good options. Probiotics or yogurt are also good. If you eat yogurt or hot cereals a tsp of wheat germ, flax powder or psylium powder may help.

  7. I am not starting this thread for actual answers, merely to get it off my chest. I am struggling, I mean really struggling. I am so out of control and I blame noone except myself. I wont clean my house out of these foods because I have done that a million times in my life and it hasnt worked. I have to learn to have them in the house and ignore them, or have them in moderation. I mean, before banding I hated ice cream. I love it now, I have it about 4 times a week. Grrrrr...peanut M&Ms, my biggest downfall. I have great restriction, eat small meals and feel full, then BAM 7.30pm comes...the kids are in bed and I am like a raging animal going through the cupboards looking for food...cant just be anything though...fruit, yogurt or healthy things just dont cut it. Now let me talk about exercise, each night I go to bed thinking tommorow I will start walking or anything. I go to sleep so motivated, and the next day I just cant be bothered. I have to give up smoking for my TT next month. I gave up for 3 days last week and in those 3 days I put on about 5 lbs. it scared the crap out of me and I turned into this psycho that bit the kids head off with anything that came out of my mouth. Hubby didnt want to come home from work...he was scared!!! I have read all the threads...keep temptation out, see the bigger picture, wake up to yourself...I know!!! I really know and I knew it before banding and it didnt work, and nearly 11 months later its not working after banding. I wish I had energy...I wish I wasnt tired all the time, I wish I wasnt addicted to chocolate...I wish I had motivation and I wish I had self control...One more thing, I wish I could give up smoking without going to hell and back in the process. *sigh*
  8. So I am scheduled for surgery on November 29th. I started this in August. It didn't take too long as my insurance covers Lap-Band, and I didn't need a 6 month diet. I started my journey at 265 lbs. I am now at 250 lbs. I started journaling my food and exercising more than usual. Not too bad. I am now on the pre-op phase as prescribed by my Nut. I am not hungry but not really satisfied. I guess this will be the new normal. I think some of the problem is the pre-op liquid diet is mainly milk based and sweet, ie Muscle Milk Light, yogurt, fat free sugar free pudding, etc. I really don't have much of a sweet tooth. I look so forward to my two daily meals of Soup to get some savory. Thank God I can cook. I cooked a big pot of soup. Canned soup is not all that tasty, but I have some to mix things up. I found out the hard way yesterday about getting enough to eat. I was about an hour late for my evening mini-meal, and had a real soupy soup with little in the way of calories for lunch. It was canned soup...big mistake. I was sick with a headache and dizziness by evening, and I ate stuff not on my plan. I started my pre-op diet 2 days early (on Sat) and was doing okay before yesterday evening. I am back on track today and am being a lot more mindful about getting enough calories in as not to get low blood sugar and compensating by eating the wrong things. I also went for walk on my lunch break, like I usually do, which may have contributed to the incident later in the evening in conjunction with not enough calories. I am excited about my surgery! My husband is "cautiously optimistic" as I have lost and regained weight most of my life. One of my sisters knows and is very supportive. My mom and best friend know but have bombarded me with failure stories as they are both jealous. I have decided not to tell most of my friends and co-workers as I am also "cautiously optimistic" about them. My co-workers have no need to know. I have told everyone I am getting my gallbladder out which my dr. does do so it won't seem odd with my dr excuse. Most of my friends are obese and I really don't need any more failure stories or other forms of acting out of jealousy. I'll be in North Shore LIJ Syosset, on Long Island, with Dr. Geiss. I qualify for single incision, and if all goes well, I'll go home the same day instead of staying over night as I am healthy other than being obese. I have bought most of the things I need post-op. I need to get a Fiber supplement and Vitamins. Any one else being banded on the 29th? Good luck to all out there in Bandland.

    Why isnt it working?

Is she getting all these fills and unfills done under fluoro? Have slips, erosion, and various band complications been ruled out? Something isn't right here, it takes a LOT of calories just to maintain a 130kg body, probably 3000 calories daily. If she is only eating tea, Water, yogurt, and thin soup she can't be getting more than 1000 calories daily and you explain she has no active thyroid issues going. Something isn't right. Also, two slips... usually that is from PBing too much or pouch packing. If she is only drinking her food, what is she PBing on? She needs to see her doc.
  10. My surgeon considers yogurt a liquid. So I drank protein shakes and then had yogurt for dinner [emoji6]

    Cereal and granola question

Grape nuts cereal is good mixed in yogurt too. I eat Kashi go lean crunch, or wheat chex once a week or so for something crunchy in the morning.
  12. Jenny, Did you get the answers to your questions about your pre-op diet? You should've gotten some written instructions from the nurse. What flavor AmazeRX did you choose? I love the vanilla and the Mocha Zap. I'm on my 4th container already! Cha-Ching!!!!! I still love to drink my Protein shakes post-banding. This is what I have about the pre-op diet: Breakfast: I serving of 2 of the following: yogurt, fruit, Cereal, toast, bagels, waffles, muffins, eggs or oatmeal. (I stuck to oatmeat, coffee, and yogurt---but I was only on the diet for a week....long story!) lunch: AmazeRX shake dinner: 1 serving lean meat, one serving veggie (have some skinless chicken and a veg of your choice, or a pork steak, or a fish filet, etc....) Go to Pappasitos and have a fajita without the tortilla and cheese/sour cream. You get the gist.... Night-time Snack: AmazeRX shake ....and because you are STARVING on this diet, you can supplement between meals with salad all you want....just choose fat-free/low calorie dressing. My Girlfriend has that book you mentioned and loved it. I couldn't find it at Barnes and Noble or Borders, but heard it was better to read pre-op anyway!!! I just saw Dr. Collier yesterday....he was wooooonderful and really gave me a kick in the pants for not exercising like I should be! I think he's such a fantastic surgeon and doctor---so kind, competent and caring. His office staff is great too, just give them a chance and get to know them!!!! Let me know if you have any more questions. Cheers, Toni

    Food for thought

I have not tried tuna yet, mainly because it does not sound good. I think sometime next week I will give it a try. I usually love it, so I'm sure it will be fine. I'm stuck on refried Beans, fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese, almonds. That is about it. Good luck everyone!
  14. This afternoon was better, had cup of soup cream chicken a little bit, had Greek yogurt with 1/2 scoop whey protein. Breakfast was milk with whey protein. I keep everything down ate very small amounts and very slow. Don't feel hungry at all. Stomach seems settled down after prilocec.

    Help....please

I second the food tracking. I've read that tracking your food is one of the best ways to stay on course because you can clearly see if you start getting off course. Although it sounds like you don't really have a course, which sucks. I am not a doctor or medical professional in any way, but I can tell you what my plan is and maybe you can adjust it to suit your needs. I'm 3 months post-op, have lost 62 pounds, and am eating between 800 and 1,000 calories a day. I aim for 80 to 100 grams of Protein and no more than 40 to 60 grams of carbs. I try to avoid sugar and simple carbs like white rice, white bread, potatoes, etc. I don't really track fat, but I do stick with low fat in things like cheese because the low fat seems to have more protein. I typically have a premier Protein shake for Breakfast around 7, a snack like a boiled egg or 1/2 cup of cottage cheese around 10, lunch like chicken salad or lunch meat and cheese around 1, a light greek yogurt around 4, dinner like baked fish and steamed veggies around 7, then a small snack before bed that I usually choose based on whether I need more calories or protein or what by that point in the day. I do not drink carbonated beverages or alcohol, and I try to avoid what I call empty eating, like sugar free pudding, which may not be bad for you but also don't really offer you anything. After meeting with a personal trainer to plan a workout routine, here's what I do. 3 to 4 days a week, I spend 30 minutes on the treadmill or bike and 30 minutes doing the gym's circuit training. Then 2 or 3 days a week, I do some relatively light weight training. I hope this helps. If you want, feel free to private message me and I'll do my best to give you whatever answers I may have.

Eating at a bar... a new experience.

I am really hoping the ulcer will be cleared by my next appointment, January 7th. I'll give it another month from there before I test my luck on even mild stuff. I am getting a little tired of being on bland, unseasoned puree. My life is greek yogurt, broths, and cottage cheese. But... if I can conquer 10 weeks of puree, I can do anything. hahaha.
  18. Thank y’all for commenting. I’m still experiencing blockage , I vomited again. I had a bit of chicken and carrots and it got stuck again. I think I need to pay a visit to the hospital. Yogurt and fruits goes in good. Even cheese.

    Protein Is Such A Pain!

have you tried the 3 oz Protein shots? the atkins Protein Bars? the greek yogurt? I'm about 5 weeks post op as well and I still haven't used any form of protein powder or even a blender and I'm tracking my protein and everything else with myfitnesspal. The shakes I use are awesome and taste great. Maybe you want to try some other kinds. Below is a picture of the kind I'm using and I still love them after 3 months of drinking them http://www.contoursoftheearth.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/pure-protein-shake-cookies-creme-e1313198653500.jpg

    Streched Pouch...

Missy is right I'm afraid. I honestly don't think I'm in the green zone yet and I'm 10 months post op, not sure how much I have in my band, sorry but some days I can eat chicken and some days I can't, some days I can eat eggs and some days I can't, same thing with toast. 2 days ago I tried eating pulled pork BBQ and either ate too big of a bite, didn't chew enough or the stringy mess just slid down but I got stuck BIG time and ended up sliming, and then vomiting up everything I ate, a forceful vomit, not PB'ing which was not good for me at all. Am I afraid of trying BBQ that I have left in the frige, no, I will try it again but will be mindful of cutting it up into tiny pieces and chewing, what has really helped me is what someone else posted on here not too long ago, chew and say the alphabet. Most of my food intake is healthy choices like chicken, fish, oatmeal, cereal, tuna, cheese quesadilla grilled in a nonstick skillet with low fat cheese and for dessert greek yogurt with fruit on bottom or fresh fruits. It just so happen the other day I was craving pork BBQ and got some and well that night it didn't agree with me. I try to stay away from chips because I can't stop at one, however I'm a popcorn freak and I will eat that once a month as a treat but only a little. Be a little more creative in your food choices. Chili is good, loaded with protein, actually I love Wendy's chili, I get their small and eat it and its all I can do to eat that amount. However with that said when I go to Cracker Barrel and order a bowl of beef stew I can pretty much eat the whole bowl, go figure, I'm sure that is more than a cup worth which is what we are suppose to go by, eating 1 cup of food at each meal or at least by my surgeon's directions. I wish you well and good luck, you can do this.

    1wk post op

Keep your chin up, it will get better each day. I really think you are eating some really difficult foods for week one. Shouldn't you be on full liquids only? During my first 2 weeks I really had no desire to eat and lived on whey Protein watery milk or beef broth (to ensure my protein intake), Jello, sugar free popsicles, and Powerade Zero (Powerade zero, which my doctor said was the ONLY sport drink I could drink was my life saver because Without it I would have dehydrated.) I could not drink Water until about week 8 and even now it is difficult. eggs I could not tolerate until a good 6-8 weeks. My second week I tried adding pudding, small curd cottage cheese, yogurt, and finally 'almost" pureed chicken. I think I wasted more food than I ate for the first month because I would eat a few bites and was full usually from trying to keep up with the required Fluid intake. Any way you look at it, enjoy the limited eating now and the not wanting to eat, because by your 3rd-4th month the desire to eat is back and your new eating habits have to be on your mind so you do not fall back to your old habits.
  22. Ok - put all that behind you. I had a pre-op diet, but it wasn't too bad at all. I could have 2 servings of egg, whole wheat bread, low-fat yogurt, fruit one time/day. Then 2 Protein Shakes. Then 4 oz of baked chicken and 1 serving of a green veggie. I know that was a very generous pre-op diet. Others I know were on straight liquid for 2 weeks prior (5 Protein shakes per day). You could supplement SF popcicles, SF Jello and that helps! Hang in there and do the diet so your surgery will be safe.

    Pre-op jitters...

Hi Everyone who has been supportive, I made it! My apprehension far outweighed the actual experience. The experience with Dr. Ortiz's staff and clinic was very positive and I felt well taken care of, more so even, than if I had stayed in an American hospital. They keep you overnight, but each patient has their own private room (wonderful) and only 3 patients, with a nurse and a doctor right there all the time. I felt pain at the port site when I first woke up from anesthesia, but they gave me pain meds and I went back to sleep. After that, when I woke up, I was sore, but not really in pain. They still kept up with the gas medication, pain medication, etc., until they send you back to the hotel for one more night. Homesickness was worse than the surgery. It was a long journey home (GOD, I thought we were going to be strip-searched at the border coming back into the States! or else have to walk across the border dragging our luggage! I advise you, really, really helps to have a passport, although they "accept" the driver's license, bring a valid passport if at all possible!) I was OK on the antiinflammatory pain med through the wait at the airport, plane ride home....the airporter bus ride it started wearing off, but I was met by my DH and was never so glad to see my humble abode in my life! I am SOOOOO glad it is over and SOOOOO glad to be home. I've got the gurglies, but when I eat my chicken broth or now runny yogurt, I seem to fill up pretty fast. I was gratified that I lost 20 lbs pre-surgery, both on my own efforts and the preop diet and hope to see more soon, because Onederland is within reach! God, that will be a happy day. Dr. Ortiz seems to skip mushies, 3 weeks of liquids, first clear, then full, then solids. Also, for some odd reason, Jello (not that I crave Jello) is considered by his nutritionist to be a solid?????? Soup and yogurt is fine right now. Still have the liquid in, liquid out problem, but I am having no problems with small pills, thank God Imodium is one. Thanks everyone on these boards for support, sharing, good thoughts and wishes, it really did help me get through to the other side. I am officially a bandster now. AMRDMR
  24. i had my band 4/2. I've been on Protein shakes and have been good for the most part, and some okay foods like yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, etc... i refuse to "puree" stuff. yuck. yesterday I had some very moist skinless chicken (diced, and I chewed very well). later in the day, I had a couple Doritos (no, I dont intend on being bad), and some cashews. chewed the cashews well, of course. sorry, I have been exercising ALOT more and for some reason have been alot hungrier.. I've lost 14 lbs since my band 10 days ago..! a couple days ago I had a couple pieces of wheat melba toast. so far everything has stayed down fine without discomfort or anything else. any thoughts or feedback from anyone? is my band going to slip? am I hurting myself? or is everyone's healing a bit different?
  25. It just isn't moving like I thought. Surgery weight 266, current weight 237, almost 30lbs, about a week out from 3 months. It's going so slow 😭. So I've recently upped my water and my cardio (doing 40 min a day 5 times a week) eating less than 800 a day, usually around 700, sometimes give or take. Always less than 25 net carbs for the day. I've only lost 3 lbs this month. Any advice? I'm really eating pretty right, 90% protein the rest veggies, yogurt, string cheese, making good choices. Maybe calories need to go back to 500?
