    Revisions

After trying numerous times to fill my band the second time my dr decided it was twisted so I had to go in and have port revision surgery. It went pretty well except that they gave me some pain meds on an empty stomach so I threw up ALOT!! That sucked but after a few days of being extremely sore I was fine. Things are going much better now. I've lost another 10 pounds and am on my way! Thank goodness. The doctor said that the band was empty when he filled it during surgery. I have really noticed a difference in eating now! I can't eat very much at all now and I've learned what sliming is too...YUCK!! Oh well, I've started working out again and things are on the right track so I guess we'll see how it goes from now on...to be continued!

    New here

thats awesome.... I had lapband on October the 10th and have lost 11 lbs so far since the first appointment and have lost 8 lbs since my surgury date. I look at this as the 10 Water weight loss, how was your loss the first few weeks?? Have you been steady? Have you had any fall backs?? Look forward to checking your progess now and then keep me posted and good lucky girl keep it going !!!! Hello all I am new to this board But not new to weight loss I am 42 years old and live in New York I have 4 beautiful kids and Happly married I had lapband surgery on May 27,2011 and have lost 55lbs to date
  4. Hi all! I had my surgery on 10/9 and didn't feel much restriction until my fifth fill on 1/13. I had only lost about 15 pounds until that point and was kind of disappointed. Since then, I have dropped another 20 pounds and am very happy about that. However...about 3 1/2 weeks ago, I ceased being able to hold much of anything down. I had enjoyed my last fill for a few weeks, but then it seemed like everything I ate came up. Everything caused me pain. It was even difficult to get down an entire Slimfast. I was losing weight though, so I just chalked it up to maybe choosing the wrong foods or eating too much, even though I could barely finish 3 chicken nuggets. Last Thursday I had 1 snack pack of chocolate pudding for Breakfast, 1 cup of mashed potatoes for lunch and about 1/2 cup of Soup for dinner. I just wasn't feeling right and pretty much threw up everything. (Not giant throw ups like when you have the flu, but little by little spitting everything out until its all gone and there's no more pain). I went to a play that night and sat in pain for 2 hours, knowing I needed to continue throwing up...at intermission, I went outside and went to spit out whatever was bothering me and out came 2 large chunks of a dark brown material. I thought I must have gotten down to the bottom of my stomach and was throwing up the pudding I had eaten earlier that morning. The next day, I was also unsuccessful at holding anything down and at about 7pm, up came some more of the dark brown liquid/gel substance. I hadn't eaten any chocolate pudding that day so I started to worry that it might be blood. I went to the ER and sure enough, it was blood. They gave me an IV and did some x-rays but found nothing wrong. My doctor's office was closed until Monday, so I stayed with liquids all weekend and went in first thing Monday morning. I thought maybe she would remove 1/2 of whatever she had filled me with last time, but instead she took out 4cc's (I had a total of 6, so I am left with only 2) and did a barium swallow so she could see what was going on. Because of all of the vomiting, my stomach was all swollen over the top of the band, although the band had not slipped at all. She put me on liquids/mushies for 2 weeks and I will go back on 3/31 to do another barium swallow and see if everything has gone back to normal. If not, they may need to do another procedure which scares the hell out of me because I was a cash pay and already forked out $17,000!! I was just hoping someone else had gone through this and could give me some insight because a) I am scared that I will need another procedure and  I am so pissed that I had to have 4cc's taken out because I am STARVING now, just like before I ever had the surgery!! I am going to a family party next weekend and certainly didn't want to gain any weight back between now and then, although I know that it is preferable to puking in a bottle the whole weekend. Anyone wanna tell me everything's gonna be all right???? Thanks for listening. Any input or advice will be appreciated.

    Amazed

I am going to precursor this post with the fact that I do understand every surgeon/hospital/ practice has different requirements when it comes to WLS. But I am just stunned at HOW different sometimes!!! One of my very BFFs in the world ( since high school) was sleeved yesterday. His process has been entirely different than mine and it astounds me. He did not have all the extensive pre op testing before approval as I did, but he had to do several classes with NUT. ( I only saw NUT once. She was satisfied with my knowledge and my insurance didn't require anything but NUT approval) My friend didn't even have a scope done to check the esophagus down to stomach, just an upper GI. My upper GI missed a small hernia that was found via the scope. ( but was so small they didn't repair) His pre op diet included food ( two Lean Cuisines or the like a day for 7 days ) while mine was full liquids for ten days. He did not have to do any bowl prep pre op, although he had food up until the evening before surgery. ( I did no bowl prep due to liquid diet for 10 days) He does not have a drain tube and there was no catheter used during surgery. And he just told me he already was given custard this morning to eat!!!!!!!!!! Seriously? I could barely sip a few ounces of apple juice two days post op, let alone eating anything the next day. Now I know my body reacted much differently than his from anesthesia and so on, but wow. ( I had severe nausea and vomiting, he hasn't had any of that) And the other thing...I was in the hospital from 8am on Monday until about 4:30pm Wednesday. He said he is supposed to be released today. His whole process seems so rushed and weird to me. I wouldn't trade the experience I had for the world. I loved the hospital I used and the staff was awesome. I guess I am biased to it. I try hard to keep my opinions to myself because I do not want to "step on his moment" in any way. This is just as big of an event for him as it was for me so I do not want to be a negative Nelly. But I am certainly having opinions about how different things have been for him. I truly just want him to be healthy and happy.

I don't know if you have seen posts from GamerGirl on here, but she and her husband were sleeved the same day by the same doctor. They each had different pre-op diets and other requirements. I didn't have to do a pre-op diet, have any pre-op tests, see a psychologist, do a bowel prep. I only had about a month between initial consult and surgery. My surgeon says you don't need a pre-op diet if you weigh under 100 kg and I was 98 at the initial consult. I didn't have drains or a catheter. Heck, I didn't have a catheter after my hysterectomy either, only my knee surgery. I was cleared to take non-chewable pills on the day of surgery and cleared to drink coffee in the hospital. The sleeve surgery is not the same as it was 5 or 10 years ago when Sleevers and bypass patients had the same pre-op and post-op protocols. Surgical tools and techniques have evolved. Sleeve surgery is faster and safer than it has ever been. Surgeons have more data to draw on. Some surgeons will be more conservative in their methods than others. With all of that, there is no point comparing your surgery to someone else's. You each chose your surgeon for a reason and each surgeon gave you a protocol for a reason.

    9 cc's in a 10 cc band

Depends on what size band. I have 14 cc's so 9 cc's wouldn't be THAT drastic for me. Also I agree, if you're paying $1100 a fill, you need to look around for cheaper fills! OK DUH I just re-read the thread title and see you are in a 10 cc band. SO I agree; do they count what's in your tubing? 1 cc isn't much....as a guideline, a teaspoon is 5-6 cc's. Otherwise if you don't have restriction, either your pouch is really stretched, or your band is leaking. I think you should discuss with your surgeon! Good luck!
  8. I am not feeling restriction. What happens when you get to 10cc's. Has anyone else had this happen. I keep thinking with every fill (at $1100/fill) that this one will do the trick. I will have a 1 year anniversary for my surgery in Jan 09. I have lost weight, but can still eat alot. Do people have to have them replaced? Jeanette
  9. Am down 135 pounds. Surgery date dec 10. I would like to know how much can others eat in one sitting!!! I can eat about a whole chicken leg 3 Broccoli florets and 2 tsp of a carb
  10. I grow my own - that way I know they're fresh! I make kefir, which is much easier than yogurt - just pour milk in, wait a day, drain the kefir off - done. No heating or other nonsense required. I ordered the grains that hold the probiotic colony and make the kefir from Amazon - just search "kefir grains." Only costs 10-20 dollars. I've had mine for 5 years, and have given them away to several people since then (they multiply over time).

    Newbie...

Wow gottobeme! Congrats! I struggled with losing weight pre-surgery (especially during the holidays.) I was down about 14 lbs going into surgery, which felt good as my surgeon requested a 10-15 lb loss. I actually considered the lap band in Oct 2010, but decided to post-pone as my life was too hectic. I waited a whole year to make sure I was ready, and I am glad I made that decision.

  16. Ps I think it is normal for some post op people to not crave or want food sometimes. Such a different feeling than before. I'm still amazed 10 years later that I forgot to eat sometimes. ......Of course then the beast returns wanting sugar .... it is a constant balancing act But a different life than 90 lbs ago

    VERY UPSET NO SURGERY NOW

Do lung exercises w the spirometer 10 times or more per hour and look up lung exercises?
  18. I'm doing well, had my first fill (3cc) on Friday and will be back to regular foods on Monday. I have been walking, but definitely need to up my exercise. Down 10 lbs from my surgery weigh in, and very happy with that. How are you doing?
  19. Hi princesstia when are you having surgery? I'm Dec 19 and can't wait, I agree it will be amazing to feel full and have no appetite, and to be able to buy anything that isn't a handbag. Good luck with your journey
  20. In getting myself excited about the upcoming journey, I've decided to list some things I can't wait to say good bye to forever! the plus size section: though its been a necessity, they never have clothing that fits my stylish personality. ready to wear the stuff I circle in my magazines Triple D bras: Although people pay for breast this size, I'm a living witness that they do a number on one's lower back. Besides paying $70-$100 for one bra that isn't even all that cute, I can finally wear dressy shirts to work that don't look so provocative Dieting! This probably should've been #1 on my list. Thank goodness to get rid of all the pills and fads and plain ol falling into the trap of trying to lose a few pounds here and there. This weight is going for good! Never feeling full. I don't know about some, but for me, my appetite matched my weight. I feel so hungry all the time. Ghrelin or whatever that hormone is called has kicked my a@$ for a while and now I can eat feel satisfied. Size 9 and 10 rings. I hated shopping for jewelry because my fingers were so huge. I'd pick the cutest rings and have to have them re-sized two sizes bigger. Now I have my rings in a standard size Not being able to finish my mile time in under 13 minutes. When I was in high school I ran track and could run a mile in about 5-6minutes. Since I've been in college, I can't even run a full lap without huffing and puffing for my breath. One thing I will make my top priority is my endurance. LA Marathon here I come This was just to name a few, but they definitely were some major hinderances in my years of being overweight. I don't know about you other December sleevers, but at least we never have to leave another year obese again! The perfect ending of a year! (doing my happy dance) lol

    Holiday Hard Times

At 10 days out, you are probably stil pretty swollen from surgery. As the swelling goes down, the amount you eat will increase somewhat. I know that my doctor pushes for about 1/2 cup of food with decent restriction so you won't be eating that much more. Remember, part of this surgery is to help make food no longer the focal point in your life. I know it won't seem like it is worth eating, but that is the point (in my own opinion). This way you can spend more time talking with your family or friends instead of eating into oblivion. Good luck to you.

    Weight Loss Seminar

I, too, have attended my weight loss seminar. I have an appointment with Dr. Bruce Jones of Jonesboro, AR on Wed., Oct. 26th. If all goes well--after my two weeks on liquid diet---I will hopefully have my surgery either Wed before Thanksgiving or the Wed. after. I am super excited. I got out some old pictures of me at 19 and oh how I would like to be that size again(AND I WILL). My husband and one of my best friends from work went with me to the seminar. My husband is supporting me 100%. He has always been very supporting even with my size. I hope to retire a much healthier person and be ready to travel---because we love to travel!!
  24. 9/12/05-10:30am Arrived at BIDMC, waited about a half hour before being brought into pre-op, one of my anesthesiologist came and started my IV (BIDMC is a teaching hospital so although he got my IV in with no problems you could tell that he needed to practice more - he almost forgot to put on gloves - but he did a good job). 2pm still waiting to go into the OR - they were cleaning the room - must have been the cleanest one around when they were done. The anesthesiologist came and wheeled me into the OR - My main anesthesiologist is also my surgeons wife - Stephanie Jones, she was wonderful - she went out and talked with my Mom after surgery and told her that I wake up very well. 3:45ish Surgery went great - no problems, I lost 25lbs before so my doctor was able to fit me with the smaller band. Recovery - my first though "What in the hell have I done" I was in pain but that was quickly remedied. 5pm Into my room (my room mate had been taken to brain surgery and did not return until the next day) I rested comfortably - had a morphine pain button that I could dose myself with - Wonderful. Nothing by mouth until tomorrow but the mouth swabs are great for getting that dry feeling in your mouth and throat to go away. Vitals ever hour or so - I don't remember what time I got up for my first walk - it must have been around 8pm. One lap down the hallway and back - the nurse said that was enough for day one. 9pm-7am I don't sleep well away from home and this was no exception I was away every hour and the night crawled by but I wasn't in any pain. 9/13/05-9am my IV stopped flowing - I was getting back in bed from a walk and bent my arm and that was it - no more IV. A nurse tried to start one in my hand but couldn't get it - no fluids and no morphine - but still OK. 10:30am Transport came to take me down to have the barium swallow done - still no IV but my nurse got me a couple of Morphine injections - oww. Fluoroscopy was awesome (barium is not as bad as the clear stuff they make you drink first - gag) I got to see my port and all my plumbing - pretty cool! Back to my room - more walking - went to the solarium to read. Got to have my 1oz of water by mouth - it was sooo good. 12:30ish tolerated water well so I got to have 1oz strawberry CIB per hour. Not bad. Walking & resting. IV nurse came to start an IV - tried two additional locations with no luck - said that they should put a long line in my whole arm (I think not) - feeling like a human pin cushion. Got my catheter out - Yay. 1pm another IV nurse arrives - told her to go away that I was leaving in a few hours and she wasn't poking me anymore - she left. 3pm Peed - cleared to go home!!! 5pm Chocolate CIB for dinner - Yum. 6pm My surgeon stops by to check on me. Told me I could stay and leave tomorrow. I had to convince him I was good to go (I needed to get some sleep and it wasn't going to happen there). He reluctantly agreed (Dr. Jones is so over protective - I like that in a doctor) Home by 8pm exhausted, sore but happy. (all times are approximate as morphine has a way of making you a little fuzzy)
