  1. Ok thank you. I reached back out to my insurance company because what I was seeing was that the requirements had been revised in October and they had removed the 6 month requirement. The person I talked to looked deeper into it and told me that they hadn't received that update but could see it online? I don't know. It doesn't make sense to me. My appointment with the surgeon is Monday so I'm hoping to find out more then.

    Lowest point before surgery

Before I had my revision I had no idea there was a thing. I thought I would eventually make it back to my original weight (1998 302) Since nothing I tried was helping. Then came an issue where I developed gastritis, followed by an EGD which confirmed I was vomiting a bit of blood and that I had a fistula. My doc sent me to the Weight loss surgeon and that is when I learned about revisions. I am happy my DR. did this for me and I plan to take full advantage of my new start!
  3. From what I have read in med journals and on this site the sleeve revisions either are RNY bypass or DS. Personally if I would of had the sleeve and needed a revision I would choose DS. 97%+ success rate & no GERD. I asked for the sleeve initially but I had GERD issues before surgery and was denied. I had a modified RNY with my lower limb extended lower than the normal measurement. It’s working for me but I wish I could of been approved for DS.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

I dont often chime in on the thread because i don't often log but I can definitely eat more years out lol, same amount as matured VSG even after revision and I don't really measure either Sorry @FluffyChix about being wide open but another question: since the GI doc said portion size won't make a dif (in keeping the pouch small for the future anyways) why can't you increase your salads/vegetables to satisfaction if you are still hungry?
  5. I’m hoping that I am posting in the correct board. I am now a little over two years post op from gastric bypass and had surgery on my rotator cuff twice this year, bed bounding me pretty badly the first time and then just making it difficult to exercise and move with the revision. I’ve been having immense pain in my face and other parts of my upper body after this second surgery, not helping my cause. This has made cooking a burden, especially foods I should be eating, and I have a tendency to graze at night. That wouldn’t be so bad if I could have something like grapes, but they make me dump so quickly. Does anybody have advice on how to get back on track (after the shoulder injury and getting back on anti-anxiety meds I gained about 40 from my lowest post bypass)? What tracking programs do folks here use? My parents encouraged WW, but I’m unsure if it’s the right way to go? And seeing gastric surgeon’s office isn’t an option. 1. I moved about 200-300 miles away and 2. I lost my trust in them when my gallbladder nearly sent me into sepsis, but they refused to acknowledge there was an issue. I had to go to a well respected (serious, terrific guy!) general surgeon to get it evaluated and removed. I tried to get seen by another office at one point, but they did not want to help me as I did not have my surgery with them. Any help is deeply appreciated!

    Nervous

Hi and good luck, best wishes to you! I was set on going with the sleeve, but my bariatric surgeon recommended the RNY due to my acid reflux and I've already read where folk are having revisions from the sleeve due to developing or worsening reflux issues. That was my main reason and I'm getting fine with it.
  7. I'm having SADI-S procedure next week laparoscopically. I've been advised that I will have "drains" placed. Of course I will ask my doctor what this means, but can any laypeople interpret what this is and why I need it?

    Recovery for VGS vs. MGB

You really wont know until after surgery. But they type of testing might matter. If its not physical/endurance in nature you could be just fine. I was revise from VSG to RNY in july. VSG was a bit more of lengthy recovery than I anticipated, RNY (in comparison) was a breeze. *Your mileage may vary*
  9. I'm having a revision from VSG to MGB in February. For those have done this, how does the recover differ? Were your energy levels different? I have an important test three weeks after my surgery date, which may be ill advised, but it was the only time I could get off work. After the VSG, I went back to work after one week and it was mostly ok.
  10. Hello 👋🏼 so my revision surgery was on October 16/19 the night before surgery I weighed around 237lbs... almost a month out I’m 222... total loss of 15lbs... Haven’t lost anything in almost a week and I’m getting discouraged. I was told after 4 weeks I can start eating soft foods... do you guys have any recommendations? I’ve honestly been eating eggs 🥚 after I reached my 3rd week... I know I shouldn’t have but I got so tired of broth and protein shakes. I can eat 2 scrambled eggs in one day... I know that’s not much but that’s what I’ve been eating so far. I’m scared to eat mashed potatoes bc I loveeeeeee potatoes!!!! Lol ... any food ideas would be great... I get to see my nut in a week but for now I’ll take you guys suggestions thank you!

    Partner/ spouse support

When I got my lap band 10 years ago my husband was in good health and supportive of my decision. Now I need to revise it and he has some major health issues and I think he's afraid something will happen to me and then he won't have anyone to care for him. It's giving me some guilt, but being obese there's no assurance nothing will happen if I DON'T get the surgery. If I die from obesity issues he still doesn't have his help, so I'm going to get the bypass. Like all the other posters said in their wisdom, it's YOUR journey and you do it for you.

    Sleeve failure??

You guys have been very helpful. I will be the first to admit i didn't do 100% the research i did with the Band. I went in that WLS very knowledgable... This i thought i knew a lot about the sleeve but when i came back on the site and saw all the people having another WLS because the sleeve "didn't work" i started to doubt if i had made the right choice to revise to the sleeve. So i'm going to do what i know works. Eat my portions, watch what i eat and how i eat it. and exercise as much as possible.

    Nervous

I am 7 weeks post op. Haven't experienced dumping yet. I have been sticking with the prescribed diet. I dont drink with my meals and I dont eat sugary foods. I'm sure there will be something in the future that causes it but i don't really think it's a common thing unless you're not eating right. I was first set for sleeve but dr talked me into bypass. He said he has to do more revisions of sleeves to bypass then any other surgery. So far so good for me. So I'm sure this will be a good decision for you as well.

    DS for lower BMI revision

I'm not going in for a revision but I am getting a DS in 8 days. I didn't want to be in a place where I'd need a revision later and went right to it. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. I'm currently scheduled for a MGB in February (from a GS). My surgeon and I only talked about the MGB, and not DS. My BMI is 36.6 (with two co-morb.), but I really want this to be my final surgery (no more revisions!). Should I talk to my doctor about the DS? Is recovery/life style really that different than a MGB/GB? I'm a self-pay, so insurance is not a concern. I have to take Rexulti for depression (I've tried stopping and it went poorly) and it caused me to regain 30 pounds, so I'm particularly concerned about weight regain. Thanks in advance!
  17. I am undergoing a revision from gastric sleeve to a MGB in February, and I'm a little worried about my meds. I currently take Vyvanse 70 mg and Adderall 20mg 3x daily. (yes, I am aware that is a crap ton of stimulants). Anywho, how have people's experiences been taking these meds post MGB? Do you crush the IR Adderall tablet? Does it work as well? I assume the Vyvanse doesn't work as well because its extended release. Has anyone switched to IR Ritalin or the patch? What dose were you switched to? The highest patch doesn't seem equivalent to 70mg of Vyvanse and Methylphenidate hasn't worked super well for me historically. To quote my previous psychiatrist after hearing my new doc switched me to it, "But that's for children!" I currently also take a prescription NSAID for migraines 1-2 times a month. Do I have to stop taking that? I assume so but Triptans (maxalt, sumpitriptan) make me super sick. What have you switched to? Tylenol will not cut it. Cambia has been the holy grail of migraines for me, so I'm bummed to stop taking it. Of course, I'm going to speak to my neurologist, psychiatrist, and surgeon, but would love your personal experiences. Thanks!

    Lap Band Removal

I got mine 10 years ago and it worked great-until it didn't. I was never able to eat meat without getting sick, so I just became a vegetarian, but I was OK with that and now I'm happy about it. But back in January I started to slime and vomit almost immediately after EVERY meal, so I had the fill removed and then only got sick about three times a week. But that respite only lasted about 2 months, then I was getting sick again, even after just drinking water sometimes. They did barium swallows and it looked great-no slips, dilations-things of that sort-but still something was wrong. So I went back to the surgeon where he explained that if even if everything looked great on an x-ray, scar tissue develops where the band rubs the stomach, and that's what's causing the restrictions even with no fill in the band. And it was just a matter of time before it restricted so bad NOTHING would get through it without much difficulty. So it's coming out Nov 20 and being revised to an RNY during the same surgery, and I can't wait. I hope I'm not changing one problem for another, but I don't think so. The plus of this is the transition should be easy since I've practiced the "eating rules" for 10 years and know the difference between "head hunger" and true hunger, and maybe finally I can eat without dreading it and wondering "would I get sick THIS meal". I know the portions will still be small, but if they go down without the sliming and "productive burping" and pain I'll be happy!

    Lap Band Removal

Hello Pita4404, you are not alone at all! I had my lapband for 7 years and words can't describe how liberated and relieved I felt when I had it removed this past may and revised to sleeve in August. The last few months were horrible and I didn't have a slip! The bloating, the reflux, the plain discomfort of eating and slimming etc!!! I felt like I was in a life sentence! Especially when one pays for it out of pocket. You just feel like I bought this pain on myself and have to live with it...NO YOU DON'T! At one point it was no longer about weight loss, it was about survival. I can't believe how long I allowed the band to rule my life. All healthy foods didn't pass through and I had to subsist on unhealthy foods. You NEVER can predict what the band would allow on any given day! Arghhh, just thinking about it makes me very sad, it was truly like an abusive relationship! My life has been completely different since it's been out. I have control back. The sleeve is like a night/day difference. I can eat salads and fibers again. I feel so grateful being able to eat out without checking to see where the nearest restroom is. I feel healthy and "normal" again. TAKE IT OUT!!! And Congratulations in advance to a whole new existence[emoji176][emoji176][emoji176][emoji176][emoji176] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Sleeve failure??

I added this to the" revision... omg" page but ill add it here too This is from a surgeon's perspective not mine. The sleeve is not for everyone. Some people did not have the correct surgery for their needs. (My perspective: The may have needed extreme malabsorption along with restriction because the lifestyle changes just could not last. And what to you say to people like that? Just try harder, knowing they cannot? Thats cruel. Give them better tools to do the job.) Sleeve was originally part 1 of 2 of the Switch (DS) but it worked so well some people never needed to have part 2. Then insurance companies allowed it to be billed as a stand alone procedure. But that didnt mean everyone should have stopped at part 1, some people needed to go forward with part 2. When regain happens (Goodbye honeymoon phase) its seen as their fault instead of noncompletion of the process. Shame and guilt adds fuel to the fire and getting insurance companies to cover the "revision" without a complication is an epic battle. Also structurally (VSG or any WLS) is not infallible. Many things can go wrong immediately or even years down the line. *Disclaimer not pointing any fingers at anyone or this thread at all but perhaps the caste system the entire WLS community has created?* IMHO I think its easy and possibly careless to forget that we all (here) needed some level of intervention from WLS after we are successful. It becomes problematic to believe if do everything absolutely correctly (maybe even the first time) some cosmic merit/lottery/award will be paid out for all of our hard work. And those that need more help are getting off easy. Not everyone will lose or maintain 100 % excess weight let alone 65% & the surgeons will tell us this but we ignore it constantly. Sometimes it just doesn't work like in the books no matter what/who's at fault I have learned to mind my business big time because if someone goes through hell and back, the doctors & insurance companies open the pearly gates then they must have their reasons. Apologies for the length
  21. Hi everyone. I have finally hit my goal weight!!! I am over 2 years post ESG now and stated regaining weight steadily late in 2018. I was really worried I would be back where I started regarding my weight so booked a surgical consult to consider revision to a bypass or gastric sleeve. As the wait was 2 months to see the surgeon I wanted to see, I decided to see a doctor led weight loss clinic and start saxenda. I am glad to say that I am now at goal weight, 28kg lost over 2 years with my combination of ESG and saxenda. No surgery needed. For those of you who have had esg and who are struggling with hunger, this has helped me so much. I have mild restriction to meals from ESG but it was snacking that was killing my weight loss. The saxenda has helped this greatly. The combination of the two has been effective.
  22. I can chime in a little here about sleeve failure (although mine didn't fail me) This is from a surgeon's perspective not mine. And I've asked a few. I wish I would have recorded it. Some people did not have the correct surgery for their needs. Sleeve was originally part 1 of 2 of the Switch (DS) but it worked so well some people never needed to have part 2. Then insurance companies allowed it to be billed as a stand alone procedure. But that didnt mean everyone should have stopped at part 1, some people needed to go forward with part 2. (Goodbye honeymoon phase) When regain happens its seen as their fault instead of noncompletion of the process. Shame and guilt adds fuel to the fire and getting insurance companies to cover the "revision" without a complication is an epic battle. But y'all heard this all before...
  23. Back history..... I joined the site back in 2008-2009 i think. Back when it was called Lapbandtalk. Of course, it was for people that had the lapband done. Which i did back in 2009. SW 232, weight the day my band was removed 143 March 2017 due to a slip. This is a revision for me. I know most people say.... well 30lbs is nothing, but when your 5'2" it is. I have told no one except my husband about the sleeve. I didn't want to hear all the crap from all the people. I did what i thought was best. and because i had had a previous WLS and was cash pay.... sleeve it is. Band SW 232, LW 130... removal weight 143 (i stayed here for years) 2009-2017 Sleeved SW 173.5, CW 144.4 (as of today). Sx date Aug 28, 2019....... 10 weeks and two day PO. Chris

    Head hunger

most people don't lose weight nearly as fast after a revision as they do after a virgin surgery. So your 33 lb drop is actually very good! Check with your surgeon's office as to what you should be eating. All surgeon's plans are different.

    Sleeve failure??

How does the Sleeve fail? I had the band from 2009 till 2017. She slipped after a bad case of flu/stomach bug. The only unfill i had was when i had my TT. I was back at 10.5cc in her when she slipped. Till then i had zero problems. SW 232, removal weight 143. After much research and searching, i found a dr here where i live to do a revision (2.5 years later & 30lbs). I revised to the sleeve. I see people on here saying that the sleeve failed. How does that happen???? I mean i know how the band can fail..... erosion, slip, removing all the fill and going back to old habits. But how when its something that's permanent? Chris
