do you need a fill after about 4-5 weeks then?? i think i am definately going to go for it. Do they tell you to take Vitamins. I already have a really poor diet. However looking on the website it says about meat and fish, but i have been a vegetarian (who doesnt like vegetables) for 11 years. When you need a fill does that mean you can eat more??. Have you been waiting a long time??. Do they provide you with people near who can do the fills?? I will ask all these questions at the consultation, however I think if you ask someone who has been through it you will get more of an honest answer

http://www.buzzle.com/articles/complex-carbohydrate-examples.html This is a site that introduces you to the best complex carbs for your body. Complete Protein explanation here: If you take a trip back to your old science class, you might remember that protein is made up of smaller components called amino acids, 12 of which are manufactured by the human body. Another nine, called essential amino acids, must be obtained from food. A complete protein is a protein that contains all of the essential amino acids. Animal Proteins are complete, including red meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, and dairy, so what's a vegetarian or vegan to do? There are a few nonanimal sources that offer complete proteins, so it's important to get your fill of soybeans, blue green algae, hempseed, buckwheat, and quinoa if you're diet is meat-, milk-, or egg-free. Then there are foods known as incomplete proteins, including Beans, whole grains, nuts, seeds, peas, and corn. Combine two or more incomplete proteins and boom — you've got a complete protein. Enjoy them together in one meal or the combination can be consumed over the same day, such as black bean Soup for lunch and brown rice with dinner. Here are some other food combinations that work: Beans with whole grains: hummus (contains chickpeas and tahini, which is made from sesame seeds) and pita bread, red beans and rice, chickpea and quinoa veggie burgerson a whole-wheat bun, split pea soup with whole-grain bread, lentil barley soup, black beans and polenta, and tortillas with refried beans Nuts or seeds with whole grains: sunflower seed butter on crackers, almond butter on toast, peanut noodles Beans with seeds or nuts: hummus, salad topped with sunflower seeds and chickpeas Like I said I made a Protein Bar with Protein powder and hemp, chia seeds, flax seeds, walnuts, dried cherries and coconut. Base was prune juice. Together they make a complex protein because you have simple carbs and protein together so it becomes a complete protein.. He encouraged me to eat more of this type of food before a workout.....So today I ate a 1/2 of a bar I made and it worked....So when I work out I will eat one of them 30 min. before I start my sets.... hope this helps:
  3. I had sleeve on 7/3/19. It’s 9/17/19. I feel like there is still a lot I can’t eat. Oatmeal and yogurt feel the best. You know that feeling when it kind of hurts when you eat something. For example tonight I made veggie crumble with taco seasoning (30% less sodium), cut tomatoes, cut avocado, and put mixture into lettuce. I have a slight feeling that I need to throw up. I only ate one leaf with the mixture. I get this feeling with a lot of foods. Can’t do any meats. (I was vegetarian for years). Even tofu gives me that grinding, painful feeling. I had hernia repair so that’s not it. It’s more of pain in stomach. Maybe too much food, maybe didn’t chew enough. Uggh. This is the only issue I have. I’ve been walking everyday. I’m down almost 60 lbs. Any thoughts???
  4. Thanks for your post. Again, the purpose of this thread, at least my intention in creating it, is to ask everyone what their own individual philosophy to introducing new foods is, how they came to the approach, and why they find it effective (along with whatever other topics come up). These questions are not presumptuous in any sense nor is expressing an individual opinion on what works best for you or what strategies best fit your personal philosophy. As far as having a lot to learn about eating--if I take your statement literally, as only speaking for yourself when you say "I"--I'd say that many of us have already learned all that we need to know about eating at least much healthier than we were formerly. No one here is suggesting ways to reach maximum health. No human knows how to do that. But we know that eating veggies and fruits is one way to reach better health. You don't need to be thin (not "on an obesity board") to know that. Now that we are putting into action ideas of better eating for ourselves, the question is: how do parents get their children to do the same? For those without children, how would you do it and why? If you were speaking for other people when you alluded to the hypocrisy of being obese and presuming to tell parents how to feed their children, for my part, I always ate many veggies and fruit since childhood. I'm a vegetarian, I stopped drinking soda and artificially sweetened juice as a child, I always loved unpopular veggies like brussel sprouts and beets, and I hated white bread (etc). And yet, I have a weight problem. I talk about my problems with obesity in the other thread. My problem was not quality but quantity; quantity of good food and quantity of exercise. How parents can regulate those two aspects of a child's behaviour seems infinitely more difficult, but my mother certainly did try. Now that I have the band to control portions, I don't feel like I'm dieting at all because I don't have to change the kinds of food I eat at all in order to be healthy. I learned from an early age to love the alternative to greasy and sugary foods.

    Salad

I was able to at 8 weeks. oddly enough my sleeve has partially turned me vegetarian. It doesn't seem to like a lot of meats, but loves veggies and fruits and soft things (avoid celery, I have heard a lot of people having a ton of issues with it, so I just avoid).

  7. We're all driving AB! Welcome! What did you get done this time? Well, my man made homemade vegetarian pizza last night and I brought two small pieces into work today for lunch. I bet it won't even touch the sides but it'll stop the tummy growling and that's all I care about. Then I'm going for a 3km power walk around the city. I hope it's not raining though....

How many fills did it take?

Oh I am doing the protein thing okay, though its harder for a vegetarian. I eat a lot of beans and legumes, cheese, eggs etc. My problem is not what I eat, it's how I feel an hour later lol. (Hungry and watching the clock to see if the next meal is any closer)! I haven't lost any more weight going back to real food, but I haven't gained (yet) either. Christmas has me worried though, all that good food and all that time off!

    Do You Still Diet?

I eat a vegetarian "diet" now. If by diet you mean watching what I eat, counting calories etc. then NO I dont because I can eat as much or as little fruits and veggies as I want/need and still be under my physicians reccomendations on most days. I love my new lifestyle.
  10. Garden of Life Raw Fit and Raw Protein are both vegan. Spiru-tein has a huge line of vegetarian protein products, but they aren't marketed as vegan. I can't tell what's not vegan from the ingredients, unless it's the spirulina. Or maybe the bee pollen? Hey, just found this site when trying to find out why Spirutein isn't vegan.... http://veganproteinpowder101.com/vegan-protein-brands/

    Can't I just Move on?

You will be in a fragile state for a while, then it will get better as you heal. You do have to take care, and will have to take one or more drugs a short time and a few Vitamins full time. Drugs recommended after surgery are marked by an * I am on a beta blocker for irregular heartbeat (same before surgery) This also helps my BP. My BP is going down, but I can't get off this med, but perhaps can lower the dose. I'm am on a cholesterol drug, also on it before. I will hopefully get off of this after tests to be done at three months. I am on a drug to help me from getting *gall stones for 6 months after surgery. I am taking D3 and *B12 (which can be low from the surgery) I am a vegetarian, and was low before surgery as well. I am taking *Calcium Citraite which you need to take because of the surgery. I took *blood thinners for 7 days after surgery. I am taking *vitamins, recommended after surgery. I take a *PPI daily for three months before and at least 6 months after surgery to help protect the staple line from ulcers.

    Call me <evil> but...

Same here. I can't wait to see the look on my bro in law and his skinny wife. They've never made comments to our face, but he is a doctor so he has asked questions and knows some of our attempts. I have one person that isn't a friend per say anymore, but was. She is real full of herself, thinking she was the healthiest out of the two of us. She is vegetarian yet struggles with pretty high cholesterol..yet she's always sort of made her comments about my diet struggles. If only I did things her way I would look like her etc. I can't wait to see the look on her face next year when we run into each other. Never telling her either. Ever. :-)
  13. It's all the way down the list in the General Weight Loss Surgery section because the recipes apply to everyone! The recipes have been reorganized by surgery phase and there is a section for vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free, and other special needs as well. Check it out! http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1048-food-and-nutrition/

Nuts can have their place. I think a huge fallacy that places do is to place more emphasis on calories vs. types of food. A McChemicals (sorry McDonalds) hamburger would help you less than some nuts. I see more people worried over getting in their Protein when in America, that is never the problem. The reason people regain at 3-5 years is going back to old habits (in many cases) vs. learning to eat healthy foods. Look at vegans and vegetarians and you see fewer people overweight. Btw, you can always get unsalted, plain nuts. You can roast them in spices, you can get something from that.
  15. I LOVEd chinese food before my sleeve- After my sleeve it does not settle well AT ALL.. I have since become a vegetarian and have fallen in love with general tso's tofu and that is delicious. But everytime I ate chinese food- no matter what it was it never settled(s) right in my new tummy- so I avoid it like the plage- Thanfully I can still eat sushi but rather than 3 or 4 rolls I can now only eat 3 peices... go figure.. lol Luvin it!

Hey guys How's everyone doing? I'm from Mumbai, India. Had my surgery 2 months ago and doing very well so far... Not sure If I'm entirely happy with my weight loss though. I've lost a total of 13 kgs in 2 months. And from what I've been reading here so far, ppl loose A LOT more on 8 weeks. I'm a vegetarian and I am eating mostly Proteins along with having my Isopure Protein shake once a day. Not sure when the weight will drop. How's everyone else doing?

    Any pescatarians out there??

I'm a vegetarian who eats seafood- except lobster-that's personal preference. The seafood thing is new to me actually.
  18. My doctor wanted me to lose 15 lbs in one month. I have failed miserably. I will lose 5 lbs, then gain it all back w/in a week. while working out and dieting I don't know what's going to happen. I go in for my follow up on monday. she's gonna be disappointed but i don't know what to say. I haven't cheated, i've even changed my diet drastically, i cut out red meat and started eating vegetarian "meats", elminated a ton of carbs, no soda, no snacking etc. substituted one meal for a protein shake etc. Been hitting the gym 5-6 times a week and nothing. My insurance company does not require me to lose weight, but my doctor does. my surgery isn't schedule til april 26th so i don't know what's gonna happen

Sounds like you've got a lot of good soft/pureed vegetarian ideas there. Congratulations on your WLS and good luck on your journey.

    Vegetarian Sleevers?

Another vegetarian here. I drink one protein shake a day which is makes for 45 grams of protein. The rest I get from cauliflower, broccoli, tofu, eggs and cheese. I haven't had any problems.

    What's for Breakfast?!

My most recent breakfasts have been this... On Sunday's I cook up a batch of veggie bacon or sausage patties (I'm vegetarian), and boil a pot of eggs. Then on weekdays for work I grab an egg and either the bacon or sausage patty, and take to work and eat at my desk. Before I was on this kick, I was eating a Greek yogurt with walnuts or almonds mixed in, or a Protein shake most mornings.

    Vegetarians(or Vegans!)

I'm a pescatarian, but mostly eat vegetarian. Some of my veggie go-tos are (I eat far too much cheese, which may not work for you with the autoimmune - not sure): greek yogurt Quark (its a cheese that is yogurt consistency - but thinner than greek yogurt) I almost always have quark with frozen blueberries for breakfast - by the time i get to work, the bb are still a little frozen, but not hard) cottage cheese (there is one that is higher protein) My favorite lunch is ricotta bake (google "Eggface ricotta bake") - I always add some sauteed spinach. I make a double batch and cook them in a mini loaf pan (makes 8 mini loaves) - freeze half of them. beans/lentils (although not a lot of protein here) tofu - I either buy extra firm, drain it, and bake it or buy the baked tofu from places like trader joe's eggs - mostly scrambled Veggie sausage (I like morninstar farms) egg salad (2 eggs, 1 TBL greek yog, 1 TBL may) Veggie burgers (look at the protein content, some are low protein/high carb) Snacks almonds Sargento nut snack packs cheese fairlife milk

    Chick Pea Avocado Puree

Me, too, on loving both of those foods -- can't wait to try this. Side note: I recall that avocado and mango together have all 16 amino acids. That was when I was a vegetarian, many years ago. Maybe I will try some kind of mango/garbanzo/avocado salsa variation. Avocados are such a healthy food for so many reasons. Thanks for your post -- hard for me to read italicized text on the screen and glad I persevered. Happy new year!

    Keto diet question

Yes, keto has been around for a long time, as has most of the popular diets that have gone in and out of fashion - there really isn't all that many things that can be done in a weight loss diet that hasn't been tried before and found wanting, often multiple times. Keto has some apparent benefit in the treatment of epilepsy but beyond that it is fundamentally just a fail safe or backup mode for our bodies in time of famine - we can get by but the body really doesn't like it (that's why if provides you with the bad breath and BO, telling you that this really isn't a great idea....) Over the short to intermediate term, it can work well - as most diets do - but in the longer term for the morbidly obese, beyond a year or so, it shows the same 95+% failure rate as any other diet effort (though WLS tends to extend that years' grace period some.) Indeed, if you go back 20-30 years in the WLS world, many were often told to simply eat as they did before, but just less (courtesy of their WLS) and it overall worked well for the first year or so, but obviously since they never learned to eat sustainably and correct the habits that caused them to need WLS in the first place, they typically regained. So, from a strictly weightloss perspective (as opposed to longer term weight control), almost any diet will work with your WLS for the first year or so. What really counts is how well you adapt to a sustainable weight maintenance life in the long term. If keto works for you to do that - great; if going vegetarian or vegan does it, that is also great. Balanced diet, South Beach, Zone, Atkins, low fat, Mediterranean or whatever - go for it, and don't worry about what others do because if it doesn't make sense to you, then is isn't right for you. Clinically, high fat, low carb diets such as keto or paleo (or at least the current commercial interpretation of paleo) are used for minimizing or avoiding weight loss after a gastrectomy (such as when done for cancer or gastroparesis) owing to its high caloric density - one needs lots of calories in a small volume to maintain weight, which is just what such diets provide. This isn't to say that they can't be used for losing weight, but the odds are more stacked against one in doing so, and one needs to be aware that just because a food or recipe is labelled as keto (or paleo, vegetarian, vegan, etc.) doesn't mean that it is appropriate for weight loss or contol - one still needs to watch what one eats.

    Spaghetti Squash?

So many good suggestions in this thread. I'm going to start a plant based recipe thread in the vegetarian/vegan forum. I'll link back to it on this post once I set it up. Even if you aren't veg, it doesn't hurt to do a meatless day once a week.
