    Frustrated

First of all, 12 pounds in 3 weeks is a lot. You didn't gain the weight overnight and you won't lose it overnight, but be patient and stick with it and the weight will come off. The first few weeks post-op are the hardest because you're still recovering from surgery, very limited in what you can eat, and getting used to major changes, but you haven't yet seen the benefits of the weight loss. It is VERY common to have regrets and thoughts of, "What have I done to myself?!" early on, but as you progress, things will just get better. You'll be able to eat normal food again, and you'll lose more weight than you ever have before and get all the benefits that come with that. Hang in there!
  2. First and foremost congrats on your loss .. it’s perfectly normal to feel those feelings !! Negative thoughts try so hard to pour down on our sunshine but the thing is being able to realize them and try and turn them around . Remember it’s not a race and take it a day at a time … you did the hard part by having the surgery now everything else you do is just leading you down your journey to a healthy lifestyle:)
  3. How much has everyone lost so far?? I feel like I am on the low end and maybe not doing something right! I started pre op diet on 8/31 and sleeved on 9/12 and total loss is 26lbs… should it be more???

    August surgery buddies!

So my first week big loss… next three weeks stall… they suggested I up my calories and protein… now I gained! 🤦🏽‍♀️ This is really frustrating! Im tracking everything - weigh and measure every bite. I’m hoping there’s going to come a point where my body just gets it together and everything clicks… I’m just wondering when that will be. Right now I’m feeling very bloated and constipated (things moving, but slowly).
  5. I had mine removed 2yrs after but there won’t be additional changes to your post surgical bariatric diet by having it removed at the same time. After I had mine removed I was back to my usual eating plan the next day. There won’t be additional wounds either as they use the same ones to remove your tummy as your gall. The post surgical discomfort was much the same between the surgeries except I had gas pain after the gall surgery & none after my sleeve. Generally, you may have a little more discomfort & gas pain simply because the surgery will be a little longer & there’s more ‘prodding & poking’ than just with the sleeve alone. The only thing you may notice after your gall removal is you may not tolerate fatty or oily foods long term but that won’t be an issue post surgery anyway with the changes to your diet to support your weight loss. I also get a build up of stomach acid as the gall isn’t there to regulate it anymore but then you’ll be prescribed a PPI (reduces acid) after your surgery anyway. Good luck with your surgery.

    Six months

Congratulations on your weight loss! I'm 4 1/5 months out from mine and have lost 60 pounds so far. Have a great time at Disney and if there are any good recommendations for restaurants that are good for those of us who've had the surgery, I'd love to know. I'll be there the middle of December.

Hair loss and hair dye and hair cuts.

I know that this post is a couple years old... But for other people who will see it and need advise. The Darker the hair, the more noticeable the thinning will be. The contrast of your scalp and dark hair will definitely stand out. Short cuts with lots of volume is a better option.

    August surgery buddies!

Hey team! I wanted to share this chart I found. It shows the natural progression of wright loss after surgery based on your starting weight. I thought I wasn't losing enough, but come to find out, I'm within the healthy range of wright loss as scheduled. Hope this helps provide a guide 😊

    August surgery buddies!

I know what you mean. My weight loss has been very slow and I've stalled for 2 weeks. I'm finally losing again, but at a rate of about 1 to 2 lbs a week. I've only lost a total of 15 lbs since my surgery almost 6 weeks ago and 8 of it was in the first week after surgery when I could barely get liquids in. I guess 1 to 2 lbs a week is normal, but I had hoped for the rapid weight loss that I kept seeing during my Google searches for the surgery.
  11. Hi there! I'm New here and very excited to be here! Congrats on recognizing your pitfalls. I too am in a similar place, RNY December,2019. Loss 100 lbs, to date I've gained back 30. I've stopped beating myself up and taking myself more seriously about why I had the surgery and looking at my pitfalls, which are potato chips! With that being said I am now eating a little better, I still have trouble getting in a lot of food. So I try to start each morning with my protein shake and with that I'm usually full for the day and it gives me anywhere from 65 to 75 grams of protein. I've been trying to incorporate another protein, which is difficult for me because I'm not hungry, I never hungry. So I try to have a little chicken, turkey, or some other protein. I love now to eat a lot of vegetables, salads, and fruits which I now try to substitute these for the chips! I'm also getting ready to start exercising on a daily basis. With that being said, this is a journey, lifelong journey, lifestyle change that will greatly improve my life. And because I love living and being with family and exploring new things I feel more determined than ever to embark on this journey! So again congrats to you on recognizing where you are and what you have to do and blessings and success to you on this journey to improve your health, your life! **Weight REGAIN**

You are so not alone. This is a tough lifestyle change- for the better. You've done great, know you can achieve your goals and may have stalls,setbacks,... but get back up and reassess what you're doing differently. I'm not perfect no one is and we have to keep trying to get better everyday. My fav snack of chips is really improving because I try substituting things that occupy my mind and body,ie doing my hair, nails, long leisurely soaks, exercise,... sometimes it doesn't work, but I've stopped beating myself up because of the accomplishments I have made. This forum is great with great ppl. So I would suggest to keep reaching out here, find a pcp, social wkr., or someone in your surrounding community with experience to assist you in meeting your goals. You can do it, I can do it and we will meet and surpass our goal(s) and move on to the next thing because it's called living our best life! Blessings ❤

    RNY maintenance calories?

I'm still trying to find my maintenance calorie level. After I got to goal, I added 50 calories per day every month, then 100 calories per day until my weight loss slowed down. I am in my 60s, moderately active, but no formal work out. I'm currently at 1100 to 1200 calories with a few days eating 1400 and still losing weight, albeit slowly.

    Body odor?

I can relate to this! I'm 10 weeks (2+ months) post-op and I was wondering the same thing, but I thought it was just me, so thank you for bringing this topic up! I now can eat more fruits/veg along with my protein, so its going away. I'm still not 100% on normal food though. I was so worried that I wasn't keeping myself clean, which I knew couldn't be the case because with my weight loss so far, its EASIER to take a shower and all that!

    BED and psych clearance

I'm not sure there's an official definition all surgeons use. I think it's up to the individual assessment and the say of your mental health providers. If they don't give the green light, the doc definitely won't either. I was diagnosed with an eating disorder and bipolar a couple months before my surgery. The surgeon told me that excludes me from being a candidate but I begged and swore I was doing the work and would continue to for the rest of my life. We came up with a plan where I'd be on a supervised eating plan for a minimum of 3 months (actually we went to about 6 months and I believe I was officially approved after 5 months). Along with the plan came nutritional visits twice a month and while he didn't give me a weight loss goal, I had to be losing weight steadily, their recommendation was .5-1 lb a week. And then with that he said I needed to be in therapy (which I already was) so i gave him my psychologists info and continued working on my eating patterns with her and provide evidence of that. Then finally I had to pass their psychological evaluation. I also had to provide proof I was adhering to my antipsychotic meds. I ended up losing 30 lbs in 6 months which was a good sign, found the cause of my binging, and developed my coping mechanisms by using them daily. I'm 6 months post op now and have lost 100+ lbs. I did not binge after my surgery, in fact the physiological changes coupled with the intensive therapy, it's not something my body or brain craves anymore. Sometimes my brain wants to eat things because it remembers how good they tasted but it's never in excess and I feel like I can really taste things now. I did binge once during the pre op diet but it was a mini binge brought on by fear and hunger and I got right back on that horse. It's possible to have the surgery with BED. It's a big mountain to climb but work on finding your ideal treatment team specifically for surgery support and show the doc and your program that you're ready by sticking to a routine, being open about your victories and failures with your team, and giving it your all! I am personally a strong believer that weight loss surgery also might really help treat BED but I understand it has to be controlled especially in the early stages of post op life as it can put you in harms way. Best of luck! Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. 14 lbs in three weeks is actually fabulous - esp after a revision since weight loss is typically slower after revisions than it is after virgin surgeries. I don't know why you wouldn't be able to lose more weight if you really work at it (which it sounds like you're doing). Don't give up yet!
  17. I am 3 weeks post-op revision from sleeve to bypass. I have only lost 14 lbs in total since surgery. I have been following my plan and increasing my protein. I brought up my concerns at my follow up and the surgeon said I most likely will not lose anymore weight. I am extremely frustrated and discouraged. Only thing is my gerd is better but I am and was hoping for additional weight loss since I gained about 50 lbs since my original sleeve surgery 5 years ago.. due to pregnancy and gerd. Anyone else in this boat or experience this on their journey that can help me out!
  18. My name is Jose and I am from the UK, I had a gastric bypass a month ago so I am at the beginning of my weight loss journey.

I would like to know how many calories I should be eating a day to stay healthy, thank you for your time

Hello Joset, why haven't you been given a diet plan? Did you have your surgery in the UK? Every surgeon has a different diet, and no two people are on the same one. Weird I know. Contact your team if you can

Mine was two weeks clear liquids

Two weeks on soups, milk shakes and broths all with out lumps

      two weeks on pureed foods { I couldn't stomach this step }

two weeks on soft foods like Protein yogurt, stewed mince and veg, soft scrambled eggs. Pate on hard crackers

Then onto any food I fancied. If you struggle on any step or with any foods go back a step for a few days. Eggs, salmon and chicken are hard for beginners.

Sorry I missed your original post, hope you are still on here.

  19. Hello to all. I had a Gastric Sleeve in 2019. Yes I’m old to this but here’s my problem and please to the newbies or to those who are thinking of having a Gastric sleeve, make sure the surgeon completely remove your fundus. The Gastric fundus prohibits inferior weights loss. I loss approximately 85 pounds within a 3 years time because of this and went into complete stalling. The surgeons kept over telling me I’m overeating which I told them I’m not. I just now found out my fundus is intake and wasn’t removed. I’ve been so sick from 2019 til present (2022) with stomach issues but CT scans during my emergency room visits shortly after surgery all come back normal. Nonetheless, I just suffered and stop trying to seek help until this year my acid reflux and swallowing started to interfere with my daily life. So the ER suggested a ENDOSCOPY in which the results come back as A Gastric Fundus is Generous and Mild Gastric lining Thickening. After researching, I found that the gastric sleeve was supposedly be removed. I don’t want any more revisions of surgeries but to not be sick, I will decide on it. Again, please inquire of this. Do your research on the topic of a “Retained Gastric Fundus” after weight loss surgery. Have anybody dealt with this and if so, what did you do? Lets be of help to one another with truth and honesty.

  21. Thank you for sharing. I've been very depressed about my weight loss. I started at 258 November.. now 189. I've not lost any weight in 3 months. I know I'm not eating enough. I am not able to workout due to health issues. I just can't go down anymore. In so scared of being like I was again. I can't afford to keep going to the nutritionist to tell me to eat more. I really try.. so discouraged Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Six months

Whelp six months post op tomorrow! I still do not have "hunger" but I find myself more snacky over the last few weeks. It is annoying. I still stay within my plan limits 98% of the time, sometimes going over my calories (within 100) but usually with still healthier snacks and foods. I have been eating out more because life is so crazy and hectic right now, which I need to chill there too. We are going to Florida/Disney the first week of October so I will be forced to eat out then, which is just another reason to stop now. Overall I really don't have any complaints. No issues, and still kicking butt. I see my surgeon for my 6 month check up next week and I am still ahead of the predicted weight loss chart he gave me. I am JUST NOW starting to really see my weight loss in full body pictures. Even more so since I have been wearing clothes that fit rather than huge and falling off. Tons of friends have been commenting and sending me inspiring messages or when they see me say something. It is kind of nice that people are noticing the work I am putting in. Regardless of that, when I saw pictures of myself from the weekend I was like WHOA who is this person?!?! Flipside, I look like a half deflated water balloon naked. 😂😝 HAHA! KEEP GOING PEOPLE- WE GOT THIS! 6 months and hit 100 lbs loss today since surgery and 137 total!
  23. So i found the diabetes abd endocrinology department in there eebsute abd it has a small bit about there weight loss process abd a contract email I email them and someone replied saying my mdt meeting where your discussed by all the professionals (psychology, surgeon and Dietitians). Is in November. I was warned that the surgeons might still require me to do stuff before hand so i dobt think its going to be easy but im not currently sure. This was the reply. Surgical times are lengthy, but please wait for 1) your letter from us, which should confirm if you’re being referred at this stage or not, and 2) your surgical outpatient review – the surgical team will be able to advise on waiting times So really im not much the wiser other then just hanging in there and waiting until the mdt meeting. At my face to face appointment they did say i there was a long waiting time. I wasn't given any treatment or medication from my appointment. Only my blood results in the letter i git after my face to face appointment witg the diabetes and endocrinology clinic. Which i have to contact my gp over to sort out. Sorry its not much help. Here the link to the info on there pages i found. https://www.guysandstthomas.nhs.uk/our-services/centre-obesity And https://www.guysandstthomas.nhs.uk/our-services/centre-obesity/appointments
  24. Hi everyone, thank you all for your interest ! My doctor is not very available, I regret sooo much to had it done by him. I'm at an average of 1200-1300cal a day. Is it too much ? Since the second month I was able to eat more that my fellow surgery buddies who got it at the same time as me but again, we think the doctor did my gastric sleeve a bit larger since I only had 70lbs to loose. Go to work by walk, but that's it. I'm aware that I should exercise more. I eat regarding to my pcos and hormonal imbalances. Cutting calories does not work for me, I have insulin resistance. Metformin does not work for me either (stomach pain), I use ovasitol now. As I said, rarely eat between meals, even if I do it's mostly protein. I've got an appointment the next month, will see with the nutritionist. The weird thing is, I've lost like 15 pounds the first month, then nothing for 3 months, then 8 lbs again a month, then nothing for 2 months again and on until a loss of 33lbs. Only lost 2 pounds last months. Very irregular. I hope to see a change until the end of this year. I don't put a lot of pressure because I know I've got insulin resistance and a lower bmi and I was aware that it would be slower than others, but it's hard as you may all know. Thank you again
  25. Ok, breath. Sounds a pretty common story so far from what you shared. You’ve lost weight (yay!) & you’ve experienced your first stall. You sound like you’re doing okay really. You didn’t say how much you’ve lost but while there are average rates of loss, some lose more rapidly, others more slowly. Age, amount you have to lose, starting weight, general health, how your body reacts, etc. will influence your rate of loss. And that’s fine. Weight loss is never a straight evenly paced downward line. It goes up & down, zigs & zags, plateaus., … As long as your general trend is downwards you’re doing great. Almost every single person experiences at least one stall. The first usually occurs around week 3 +/-. They usually last one to three weeks. They can be frustrating but are just your body taking a time out to come to terms with the changes (surgery, change of diet, weight loss, etc.) Just like you experience & react to emotional stress (like your current frustration), a stall is a physical reaction to the stress you’re physically experiencing.
