Shoulder pain after surgery
dargar27 replied to stellasmommy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know this will sound odd, and it might be TMI, but when I had my C Section I had similar pain. It was awful, achy, and truly kept me awake at night. The nurse gave me some great advice that honestly helped. Lay down on your bed on your tummy and stick your booty up in the air sort of like a baby would sleep, you know? Rock back and forth and just stay there in that position for awhile. The nurse explained that the gas has no place to go, so by sticking your booty in the air, it helps give it another place to go and will relieve the pressure off your neck and shoulders. Sounds totally weird but it really did help me, at least I think so...lol Can't hurt to try, right? Good luck! -
I have a question for those experienced sleevers. Can certain foods give you the slimes? This morning was my first case of the slimes. I had 1/2 a scrambled egg w/cheese and a 1/2 piece of TJ's turkey bacon. That was it. TMI (sorry) I am gagging and spitting up all over the place. I have never had this before. I have eaten more quantity that this and it didn't happen. For example, on Sunday I ate 1/3 of a small Wendy's chili and all was good. Soup and food of the like seem to go down much better for me. I feel like I have a lump in my throat, too. It is slowly going away. I took a good long time to eat as well. I was cooking for the kids and doing laundry between bites. The lump feeling (not the slimes) happened with some roasted chicken as well. Maybe I just need to eat soup for the rest of my life?

After eating too fast
Rootman replied to FishingNurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nose runs like a faucet after and DURING meals, it always has but seems to be WORSE since the sleeve. TMI ALERT: Extremely watery stuff, not snot per-se. -
Well, I was nauseous for the first day, butnow this gas pain is by far worse. I've been eating gas x strips and had the heating to no avail. The dr said to try going without my Lortab to get my bowels working again so the gas can "get out" that way (sorry tmi!). So far that hasn't worked either. Now I'm headed home- only 4.5 hours away!

Well, scale is up today (I had stayed off for 2 days), I am so depressed, though I did eat a little bit I shouldn't the last 2 days. But I'm gonna start a liquid diet tomorrow. I usually just do the shakes because, I hate pudding, and I dislike jello. Maybe I'll eat some egg drop Soup though, and perhaps get a little yogurt. Gonna start tomorrow, since I'm going to Rosh Hashanna dinner tonight. I'm gonna try for 3 days at least. TMI-maybe it will relieve my constipation for now.

So okay, I tried to be patient about this but....I can't take it anymore, I have to talk about it. I was banded on 6/17/11 and have lost a good amount of weight. I'm happy about that but I have been on the plateau for like 2 weeks. I have actually gained 2 lbs. Well actually, I was sick about a week and a half ago and lost 8 lbs in 2 days because I had a really bad stomach virus and just had really bad diarrhea, so basically (I pooped out 8 lbs) sorry TMI! Which means really that was water weight, but now I can't seem to get going again. My diet hasn't changed, I still eat and do the same things I did before I got sick. Probably more exercising so I don't get it. I have had 3 fills and not at 5.8cc in a 10cc band. How long will it take for my weight loss to start again? I need help!!!

Hey everyone I had my surgery last week and my drain removed yesterday. I've noticed today that I have (sorry if it is TMI...) a rash that has popped up around where the bandages were (about half are gone now). It is red and itchy (almost a burning sensation) and very irritated. Normally when I have come in contact with medical tape before my skin gets red but it goes away very quickly. Not this time. It is definitely from the tape and not an infection because it is in the shape of the tape and I have no other signs of infection. I am worried about the one near my belly button because the surgical tape that covered the incision came off today, and the rash is very close to it and I don't want to do anything to cause an infection. If it doesn't get better I am definitely going to call my surgeon's office, but in the meantime does anyone have any suggestions to help treat this at home? I took a shower today and used some of the pre-op wash I was given (it says right on it that it can be used and all of my incisions are closed) and then I made sure that all of the adhesive was off of my skin. On one of the spots I tried using a little bit of benadryl cream, but it didn't help. Any suggestions would be great Thanks!

For the first time in a long time, I was really low emotionally. Not for any reason in particular, just a low feeling. Everyone was in bed and I was watching mindless tv. My husband and i had come home with a few cookies for the kids ( which I can usually stay away from). I ate 2 cookies!!! And not little ones either!! Now, normally I would just fight it off and get an extra good workout in and be fine with that. But no, I'm paying hard for those cookies today!! Since surgery, I generally have a BM every couple days and it's very solid ( almost to the point of painfully solid). In the last 6 hours, I gone about 6 times and I'm in painful gassy mode. I really didn't sleep too much because of this.... That'll teach me!!!! -
How do you get your caffeine fix?
Lanette replied to Ellie4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My morning coffee. I stopped for a while, but my doc let me add it back in. Probably TMI, but I have never in my life had constipation issues and I did after surgery. My morning coffee is the cure for that if you get my drift. Sorry for the TMI, but I doubt I'm the only one. -

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE REPLIES AND SUPPORT! I LOVE TO SHARE WHATS GOING ON WITH PEOPLE THAT UNDERSTAND OR THAT HAVE BEEN THROUGH ANY OF THIS! FIRTS OFF, ILL HAVE TO ADD THAT I HAVE SHARED A "STUCK" MOMENT! DOES THAT MAKE ME OFFICIAL!!! LOL WOW THAT SUCKED AND SCARED THE HECK OUT OF ME. (ON A MORE TMI POINT, IT CAME RIGHT BACK UP!) I GUESS I ATE WAY TO FAST AND IT WAS "STUCK" FOR A LIL BIT, AS I BEGAN TO PANIC AND SIP Water, IT MADE ITS WAY OUT! LITERALLY! UGH, WHAT A LEARNING EXPERIENCE THAT WAS! YES, IVE LEARNED TO SLOW DOWN AND CHEW!!! AS FOR THAT FIRST FILL, I WAS AMAZED HOW QUICK THE PROCESS WAS! LITERALY LAYED BACK, INJECTED THE SALIN, HAD ME SIT UP, SIP ON SOME WATER (TO MAKE SURE I COULD SWALLOW IT) AND TOLD ME HAVE A NICE DAY. TOOK ME LONGER TO GET OUT THERE THAN THE FILL! I DO FEEL A LIL MORE RESTRICTION FROM RIGHT BEFORE THE FILL. I DO GET HUNGRY FEELINGS A LIL MORE THAN BEFORE BUT DO NOTICE I DONT EAT MUCH. FROM WHAT IVE READ, IT MAY GET A LIL MORE RESTRICTED WITH TIME, SO I SHALL SEE. IM HAVING A HARD TIME TAKING THE Vitamins AND CALCIUM! (IM TERRIBLE AT REMEMBERING!) I PUT THEM IN MY BAG NOW AND CARRY THEM WITH ME SO I HAVE THEM WITH ME WHEN IVE REALIZED IVE FORGOTTEN TO TAKE THEM! DEFINITLY WORKING ON THIS! MY DIET AND EXERCISE...I KNOW ID SEE MORE RESULTS IF ID EXERCISE MORE! IM TAKING WALKS/HIKES AND FEEL SO MUCH BETTER AFTERWARDS! IM GETTING INTO THE HABBIT TO DOING IT DAILY. I SEE THE NUMBERS GOING DOWN ON THE scale BUT LIKE OTHERS THAT IVE READ ABOUT, I DONT SEE OF FEEL IT TO MUCH ON MY BODY OR CLOTHES! IM WORKING ON EATING BETTER, IM READING LABLES AND SO HAVE BECOME AWARE OF MY BAD EATING BEHAVIOR FROM BEFORE. READING ALL THESE POSTS HAS INSPIRED ME TO GET THROUGH THIS. TO WANT TO SEE GOOD RESULTS AND TO WANT TO FEEL HEALTHY!! IM 4 DAYS SHORT OF ONE MONTH POST OP AND CAN ONLY HOPE, THIS ALL GETS EASIER AND BETTER FOR ALL OF US. -
Hey Panda, I am a runner. I have been running for the last 17 years of my life. So a 4mile walk is nothing for me. One would think with all of the running that I do, I wouldn't need this surgery -- but I did. My starting weight was 225lbs, and I am down to 214 in a matter of days. (I haven't been able to get the weight off in YEARS!) I am sooo excited for my journey to see where I will end. My goal is around 130-135. Per my doc, I can walk~walk~walk~as much as possible. The more walking -- the less gas I will have. I figure, by 3 weeks I will be back to running again (as long as there is no pain). I can do up to 10 lbs of weights. I am restricted from elipitcal machines, or any machine that could pull the stiches loose for 1 month. I feel great! Unfortunately, I have sooo many chores, etc to do around my house -- so when I got back home, I didn't stop moving. Woke up extremely tired today to come back to work. Ohh about that Protein, I am only 5\6 days out. I am just trying to get my liquids in at this time. My body isn't accepting the protein just yet. I have been drinking "G" (Gatorade) - Recovery (it has protein in it). I also have protein shots. When I take the shots (and this is TMI people - turn your heads.lol); it gives me the runs. So, until I go on thick protein, I will stay away from the shots for now. Fluids are going down like a champ. It hurt at first, but ever day is better and better. Not so much pain. Panda, keep me posted on your results and how you're doing. I would love to share as we move forward. Take Care Sleeve2B

I had my band placed march 23rd this year..I had 1 fill in july..no problems..then i was ready for another one last weds..and boy is my eating habits totally different..i experienced my first sliming/stuck episode..same as u, it was very painful..so all this week i have been trying to find foods that will go down (i know im a little to tight) so far protein shakes..water..coffee..all soups..refried beans..is all that have worked so far..it does get a little better each day, but now im not overeating..and as far as in public when this happens..i have only had this happen once..i ate lunch with my son for his b-day, and i could not just up and run all the way over to the bathroom, so luckly i had tons of napkins, and just pretended to wipe my mouth and got rid of it that way..may be TMI, but that is how i handled that situation..good news is thou i had lost 8 lbs since last weds.. -

Questions about PBing, Sliming or just plain throwing up...I've been reading about it but had not experienced it until this morning and OMG it was really bad!! First off I blame myself because I was eating something VERY bad! Yesterday I had a slice of toast bread with a tiny bit of Peanut Butter and I was fine so today fro Breakfast I had the same thing, only difference was this was first thing in the morning vs yesterday it was in the afternoon. It went down fine and when I was done I came to sit on my couch and it started! WOW I still can't believe how bad it was, I felt it get stuck and my chest was hurting, I tried Water and pineapple juice and nothing, it actually got worse. I started walking around the house and I started getting very anxious like I was short of breath. All this lasted about 5-6min but it felt like FOREVER, my nose kept running and it felt like I needed to sneeze and burp at the same time but nothing was happening, I was home alone with my 3 kids and was very scared. TMI*** Finally I threw up but it was all slime, and I felt a bit better...Now Questions; Why didn't the bread come back up? What if this happens in public? What can I do if it does happen again? Should I stick to liquids today? I had my surgery a little over 3 weeks ago and I had first fill during surgery, my next one is this tuesday. P.S Yesterday was the first time I had bread, so today was day 2 and probably last! LOL I WILL NOT HAVE BREAD AGAIN!! (for a very long time) -
First off, i apologize if this turns into TMI. But if I cant be real here where can I be real at? So I woke up in recovery with the left shoulder pain. It comes and goes. Its bearable. I can deal with it. The barium swallow stuff gave me baaaaad diarreha (sp?). Like bad. I talked to my drs nurse about some other stuff and she said it will fo away in a few days and I shouldnt be going more than 5 times per day and it shouldnt be like i have to run to the bathroom or im gonna go on myself. If either of the 2 apply I need to call the office. Ok, neither apply. I asked her aboit gas x which i have NOT taken. She told me NO it would not help. Yesterday I ate a popscicle and omg, i dont know what it did but my insides are gurgling and churning and screaming. They have not stopped. Its like an alien in there trying to escape. It kept me up a lot last night. I swore in my packet of info from my dr it said you can use gas x. I am gonna dig that paperwork out. The diarrhea is still there but getting better, not worse. Yet the gurgle gut is insane. I got up on the middle of the night and walked, nope, it did nothing. I go to the toilet thinkinf I have to go, nope. Is this type of gas normal? J Banded 9/22

would love some tips on how to deal with a sweet tooth
Rainydayz replied to janinemaire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
is it mainly around TMI when you have cravings? That's my problem point. Try: Gum - minty works best Pickles - dill takes away sweet cravings Never, ever eat a sweet on an empty stomach. It will set you up for cravings later. Eat protein when your stomach is empty. Then if you still want the treat do it. Carbsmart ice cream bars. That's my indulgence. They are heavenly and only 9 grams carbs (net 5) and 170 calories. If ice cream is your thing these will do it for ya. OK, here's where I might get hollered at but: coffee. Caffeine takes away appetite and gives you a boost. It's my drug of choice. -
My first throw up since I was sleeved exactly 3 weeks ago!
iiPinkxLoveii posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well today I actually threw up my lunch! (sorry if tmi) I was actually bummed out because even though I have been nauseous before I have managed to ignore it and let it go down. I'm blaming the fact that I probably ate too fast. Had some chicken salad with carrots & peas. I did feel better when it happened, but I was shaky and looked pale. Wonder if anyone has gone through this? So for supper I just drank a smoothie. I was also wondering if anyone else gets bloated after they eat? It seems I notice my tummy feeling big & bloated everytime I eat . I have also gained some weight which has me bummed out. I was 283 last friday and today I was 287! Is this normal guys!? :: sighs :: hopefully my sleeve doesn't let me down like all my other diets. I just started excercising yesterday, dancing that is. Sorry I'm just going on bahahaha. I'm just going through so many emotions -

Am I getting enough protein/fluids
Shalon replied to Deliah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been wondering the same thing. How do I know if I am getting enough fluids? I am not near 64 oz, but I am drinking and peeing constantly (TMI) I'm jealous you are able to consume all that. I am only allowed one Protein shake per day and as many liquids as I want. I don't feel like I am getting enough calories as my shake is 30g of protein but only 160 calories. This morning my husband bought me a sweet tea from McDonalds not realizing I couldn't drink it, he was trying to be helpful. I filled a 32 oz glass 3/4 with Water and the rest with tea and so far so good. I'm hoping this will make fluids a little easier and give me some additional calories. I'll be following your thread to see what the more experienced sleevers have to say. -
I everyone, My name is Kathy and I was just banded Friday, Sept. 16th. Surgery wise, I feel ok with only minor pain and discomfort. Still taking pain meds a couple of times a day. Not feeling super hungry and finding it difficult to take in 3 protien shakes a day. Mostly drinking Water and broth with probably one shake a day. Mouth feels crazy dry from the meds and I can't seem to get rid of that. My gas pain is minimal...I have been trying to move around to miminize that. My biggest issue right now is the diarrhea. While I risk giving TMI, I can't get over the feeling that I am just going to pass gas, and something else happens entirely! Anyone else experience this? for how long? I can't stand it. Can I take an anti-diarrheal liquid medication for this?

I'm supposed to get filled on Tuesday, September 20. My incisions still haven't healed yet and I'm not sure why. Some of them still have scabs and then they fall off and have yellow puss (gross, sorry for the TMI). Am I going to be ready for a fill or will they not let me because my incisions haven't healed completely yet???
