  1. All that liquid, just wondering if it caused problems for folks, ie "the runs". I have to work! Can't be running to the bathroom every 10 minutes. I doubt after the surgery running anywhere will be easy.

    Anyone wear smaller shoes now?

I was a size 12, and I think I'm a 10.5 now, but those don't really exist in shoe stores! Most 11s are a little too big, and 10s are a little too small and pinch my toes.
  4. sleep study and reports done. Lab work done. EGD - 10/9 1st of 3 Nutrition classes - 10/10 Psychiatric consultation - 10/14 Pulmonary consultation - 11/18 I am thinking surgery isn't too far away after all this is done. What does everyone else think?
  5. Well, i had my appt. i was a bit disappointed. since this surgeon doesn't really know me, or my history at all, he did tell me that i may benefit from an appetite suppressant. i'm not all that interested in diet pills. Then the nut couldn't see me after all, so i'm supposed to go back. but i've decided to go back to my original surgeon and nut for at least some guidance (and they know my entire case). all i really need is a kick in the pants and a specific plan on WHAT to do. i think i have a pretty good idea, i've been through it once! appt in 10 days.

    Why Am Not Loosing Weight

It's possible you may not be eating enough calories as well. I'm 2 years out, 97lbs lost, and 10-15lbs from my personal goal. When I first started this journey my calories were anywhere from 900-1200 per day. Maybe even less. Add in exercise and the caloric defecit was significant. Now, I can't lose weight with such a small amount of calories. I actually have to eat between 1400-1600 calories a day to lose a pound a week, if that. If you don't have a lot to lose from the get-go, it's hard. My suggestion is to speak with your nutritionist. Definitely keep a food diary. The app/site myfitnesspal is great for helping you keep track of your calories. I've lost the past 50lbs with its help. I wish you luck! And hang in there!

I guess I should introduce myself

i just got banded. feeling lot of restriction. i was 33bmi. got banded in juarez mexico. excellent doctor. no regrets. this is day 19 of having my lapband i love it.
  10. Yay! I'm happy I'm down 4 lbs this week! Still in pain since banded on 2/19/13. But getting Better!
  11. I had surgery on 10/16/2013 the first few weeks went great. I recovered quickly and was back to work after two weeks. Around week 5 I started getting severely naseaus eating or drinking anything made it much worse. I was still on a full liquid stage. I was given some anti nausea medication but it didn't help. I became severely dehydrated and had to get IV fluids several times before my surgeon admitted me to the hospital. I had my gallbladder removed and I thought that would help with the naseau but it got worse. It got to where I was vomiting every 30 mins and could not keep anything down. I was hospitalized again and had a picc line placed and received TPN and lipids. I finally was able to come home yesterday. I'm trying really hard not to feel regret about having the surgery. Its just been a rough road and I'm hoping it starts to get a little better.

    Dr. Robert Pinnar

He will be doing my surgery 10/21 (been resched a few times due to illness). I tried as hard as I could and couldn't find anything negative about him. I thought he was very nice and he made me very comfortable. As w/any lap band office I guess-consider how you feel about his physician assistant (Paul) and the nurse (Sue). You will really only be seeing them so how you click w/them is important. You wont actually meet the doctor on your first visit..just Paul. I would love to hear what you think of them! Good luck:)
  13. Hey everyone I'm Arcana I recently just got finished with 6 months of nutrition classes I've seen my psych Dr I did blood work I did the EKG I did the swallow Barium test and so now I am just waiting on a approval because my first surgery request was denied so this is the second attempt I'm hoping I get approved this time I'm 31 years old I weigh 320 lbs and my BMI is 49 I desperately need the surgery but I'm also very nervous I don't have that much support from my family everyone thinks I shouldn't get it because I could die on the table but I told my family that I'm already dying lbs because I'm severely overweight and I'm not saying that weight loss surgery is my only option but I feel like this is the only option for me that's gonna work for sure I've been having second thoughts because of my family making me feel like I'm going to die if I have the surgery smh has anybody else felt that way before I just feel so upset because I don't have any support at all and I know for sure its what I want to do I have tried dieting and it never worked I never lost any more than 10 pounds in my Life I'm tired of feeling miserable and having low self-esteem about myself it's not fair to my daughter that I feel ashamed about going out to fun places where I know we both will be happy and enjoy ourselves the only thing we do is go to the movies get and go home I'm tired of living like this I have always been very self-conscious about my body and the way I look and I know I shouldn't be so self-conscious but I was never this heavy in my life i recently gained all my weight within the past 10 years I just want to become a better version of myself and feel more confident and most important get more healthier my family doesn't understand that I'm not as healthy as I should be
  14. When I graduated from high school I was a size 13 and thought I was fat. Now 26 years later, I am in a size 14 pants and I couldn't be more thrilled. 99 pounds gone and healthier than I was in high school. just over 2 weeks until I run a 10 mile race! (my first - although last weekend I ran more than 11 miles) Happier and more self confident than ever. I even started teaching again this week. (I left teaching 9 years ago, not related to my weight, but...the time was right and I am now teaching ESL once a week. Can't believe how much I missed it.) I'm not sure I would have had the confidence or energy to try teaching after working a full day if I had even thought about it a year ago. I even interviewed last week on the phone for a more teaching focused position. I am just waiting to hear if I am being asked back for a second interview. Getting the job would mean moving 150+ miles to a small town, albeit near where I graduated from high school, and essentially starting over. The thought thrills me! I've stayed in the job I have now for 4 years, about 2 longer than I should have, because it was safe, but now... Is this all related to my WLS? No, but do I have the confidence and energy to even pursue these big dreams because of the surgery? Yes, most definitely. pam
  15. yes you will. A "meal" will be about 6 to 8 oz after everything is stable. Remember the "rules"... no liquid with meals, Protein first, and smile (well that last one is more a guideline). I am about 10 weeks out and I can drink normallt, and eat in the 5-6 oz range...
  16. Statistically, this is the time when regain happens. The ability to eat a lot more at this point is also common. The hard reality is that it's really up to us, at this point. I am also coming to the same realization. I am going to need to increase my diligence and really watch it, or I'm going to gain. I also have not gotten all the way goal (within 5-10 pounds and had plastics) so I don't have any wiggle room. My surgeon does not do revisions for regain. His coordinator openly said that at the last support meeting, stating that if you didn't do what you needed to do to keep weight off, a second surgery probably isn't the answer. He had also told me previously that they are finding areas of ballooning in sleeves which is probably the reason capacity increases, though there is no evidence to support that it causes gain, and the risk is higher, so not worth an unknown benefit. I always knew regain was possible. What I didn't know is how EASY it would be. I thought you'd have to really be going out of your way to eat wrong, way too much, etc. My harsh truth is that it only takes a little indiscretion, for a very short time, or those pounds pack on. Every veteran sleever I know who has regained says it's harder to get it off the second time, also a disappointing thought. However, I do know what it takes to lose the weight and maintain it, so that's what I've got to do. I saw some statistics @AlexBrecher posted, and I think it said revisions accounted for about 11% of all WLS. It didn't say what the revisions were. So while my surgeon doesn't support that, obviously, it is being done. I suspect some of those numbers are band to sleeve, or sleeve to RNY for complications. To answer your question - I'd be trying to go back to basics before I would undertake another major risky surgery to combat a regain of 20 pounds. You know what to do, you've done it before. Good luck to you.
  17. I'm sorry to say I've become a lurker. .... Life has become so incredibly busy that it's getting harder and harder to relax!! In February 2011, I headed down to Mexico and had my sleeve done. Since then I've lost 100 lbs. I lost the weight in about 8 months and have had no trouble keeping it off!! A huge reason I can keep it off is due to being VERY active! I've become a long distance runner- tomorrow I will do my 4th half marathon. I have another half marathon in September, and my first full marathon in October. In January, I'm traveling to Disneyworld to do the Goofy Challenge. I get up Saturday and do the Donald Half, then go on Sunday to do the Mickey Full. If I complete both in the allowed time, I get a Goofy medal!!! In march my fiancé and I are finally getting married in Hawaii!!! - and yes, there is a half marathon tied in 6 days after : ) My biggest changes?? To do what I CAN do! When I was big, I'd give up on everything- including myself. Now? I've had a running injury for the last 2 races. My second half, I ended up walking the last few miles. My third? I got injured 3 mile in and WALKED the next 10 miles!!! I won't give up!!! Eating wise? I still do Protein first and I still do not eat and drink at the same time. I still carry a drink with me everywhere and get 3 liters liquids in per day. I still stay away from popand slurpees like it's the plague as it's just too much of a slippery slope for me. Since having the sleeve my attitude has changed so much. I'm enjoying life and the people around me. I've gone onto a major fasttrack at work ( I've had 4 promotions since surgery, 6 raises, and 3 bonuses) Life is good My biggest recommendation for new sleevers? CHUCK YOUR SCALE!!! I only lost weight one week a month. It majorly f$cked with my brain! One more thing- get active! The trick is to find something you love. Running for me gives me time to myself ( which I very rarely have), and it allows me to think things through and clear the cobwebs. I also like hiking and do it multiple times per week right now. Now I'm off to pack my gear! Have a great evening!!!
  18. Hey Kitty! I am fairly new to this too but I have done similar research using my top notch Google search skills! I do have a surgery date - June 22! Excited! I do have 3 children, mostly grown...2 in college & one graduated from college last year. Also, 2 'almost' step-sons...19 & 21. I have been very very selective in who I talk to about WLS. I have a job that is fairly high profile and they don't need to know anything other than I am working hard to lose weight & get healthy! Would love a few WLS friends to 'chat' with!! Moe

    Somebody explain PB to me.......

My PB was beyond burp, but definitely not vomit. It hurt like hell for about 15 - 20 minutes before anything came up - in the sides of my waist, and mostly in my back between my shoulderblades. Just pain, no nausea like when you vomit. My body tried to burp a few times but it couldn't get out. Each time I would try to burp, I could feel something coming up just a little, but never all the way. When the food finally came up I knew it was happening and made it to the sink, but it wasn't the same feeling as right before you vomit, though I did salivate excessively (no slime though). When it comes up, it's not nearly as bad as vomit because there's no acid involved, just whatever got stuck, anything you put down afterwards, and saliva. Now - my husband thought I was vomiting because I still made the same wretching sounds, and it's still as spasmic, but it's not the same as true vomiting. Trust me -- I've puked twice in the last 10 or 12 years, I hate it that much I fight it with every means possible. I feared PB more than anything, more than the surgery, more than the post-op pain, etc. But I promise you -- if all PBs hurt as much as mine did, you won't mind the "unsticking" because it means the pain stops.

? Sweet spot with 4cc band

Hi I havent really found my sweet spot yet either,I have the luck of having two bariatric nurses that have also had the band so they have wonderful ideas that work rather well. They told me to eat about 3 baby carrots or carrot sticks before my meal to fill up as they seem to take longer to pass thru,I have been doing this for about a month and have lost 7 lbs. Prior to that I was really at a stand still. I had my band 10/21/08. My Dr is a firm believer in keeping the band semi loose, I will see him again 1/09 I sure he will not give me a fill, I had a .5 fill the day of surgery and 4cc Nov 23. It sure has been tough during the holidays. New eating habbits are hard enough but all those goodies to avoid were TERRIBLE.
  23. I am 10 months out. I got sleeved in June 2015. I am 44 years old. I was 200 and now I'm 130. I starting losing in October, November and December. I lost 50% of my hair. Literally clumps fell out. Because of this site and all of the hair loss posts, I didn't freak out as much because I knew if I was going to lose hair it would start around the 4th month and last 3 months...which is exactly what happened. I abruptly stopped losing hair after 3 months and now it's all growing back. It's the rapid weight lose and hormones. It's not about getting more protein or certain shampoos or supplements. If you're going to lose hair, it's going to happen. You'll be so afraid it won't stop and then it just does. I didn't get bald spots, but it got very thin and I lost about 6 inches in length. It does suck, but it was worth the weight lose. Good luck!
  24. I am sooo incredibly happy that I found this thread! I've been stalled for about 10 days and I know it's Water and Protein, but I thought I was doing something majorly wrong. I've got my protein up, and today I finally drank all the water that I needed. How long does it take to get yourself out of the slump and back to dropping weight, once you get your protein and water met? Thanks.
  25. My surgeon requires to stop drinking 10 minutes before a meal. I don't have to wait 30 minutes to drink after a meal, no, I have to wait an entire hour! That sucks.
