Revision if you already have a gastric bypass?
lovinglv replied to Polishanita1's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi! Happy New Year! I was banded in 08. I have had problems with throwing up and slight slippage that showed in a upper Gi. The other test was an Endoscopy that showed mild esophaguses... so insurance approved a revision to gastric bypass. I just got home from the hospital and so bummed that the surgeon decided it would be best to do the bypass in 3 months....😩 I feel great, no problems with removal.. -

Travelling on an 18 hr flight 6 weeks post op- anyone done it?
WOLVESFAN1 replied to Nicky6's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had revision from sleeve to RNY on 12/17/19. I flew back home on the 23rd. I was either in the air or waiting in the airport for over 7 hours. I had no problems what so ever. I was exhausted by the time we actually got home. It was a long day. My biggest day of pain was the actual day of surgery. I had the surgery around 9AM and was up and walking later that afternoon. I was lucky in that I really had no gas pains and only took pain meds the first day. I was inpatient for 2 days and then discharged to a nearby hotel until we flew back home. I'm not a big fan of pain meds and I told my surgeon no need to write a prescription. I only took Tylenol as I needed it. I haven't taken anything since Christmas day. I'm not in any pain, but just feel uncomfortable in the tummy area. Good news is no more Reflux. I'm allowed pureed food now and everything has been great with the exception of sugar free Popsicle and refried beans. The fat free refried beans were the pits. They basically got stuck in my chest and hours after eating, I still feel uncomfortable. The doctor said that I would experience things like that and when I do I need to back away from that food and attempt to try it at a later date. Good luck on your procedure. I'm sure you are going to do well! -

10 years post-op - weight gain question
elcee replied to c566's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It might be time to consider a revision. It has been discovered that bands have a limited lifespan and that there are very few that continue doing what they were designed to do after approx 10 years. They also do a lot of unseen damage. -
Revision Surgery Scheduled
elcee replied to Mark.olypenn's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was revised on 1 surgery. Life with an RNY is so much easier than with a band. I don’t get stuck and I can eatlots of good healthy foods. I just have to be really careful with sugar but that is a good thing -

You will love the bypass! With me, when I got full with my band the feeling as 'Yuck! I'm gonna hurl!" And half the time I did slime up some food consistently. Now that my band is out and I have a bypass (I was lucky and was able to get it done in one surgery) the feeling of fullness is the comfortable one I am used to prior to getting my band. I am also Medicare and I'm a bit nervous. The first bariatric office tried to tell me if you have had one weight loss surgery Medicare wouldn't pay for a second, even if they didn't pay for the first one! So I suffered with my band 6 months longer than I had to, and when I went to a different surgeon the new office said "That's crazy" and guaranteed Medicare would pay for the revision as long as you meet their criteria. I got the surgery 5 weeks ago, and I haven't called the hospital to see if Medicare picked up the tab yet...we'll see... -
Revision Surgery Scheduled

Is there anyone with a VSG or RNY surgery date at the end of February? My band has been out for about 3 weeks. Feeling good that I made it through the Holidays without gaining any weight. I have been trying to stay within the eating restrictions I had with the band for 14 years. Post op has been much better than expected. I must admit it has been a bit liberating to eat without restriction. I really appreciate the recent posts and comments on the complications with GERDS and acid reflux with VSG. They confirmed our decision to change course from VSG to RNY, because of my history with GERDS and acid reflux with my band. My by-pass surgery is scheduled for the end of February. In the meantime, I have a couple more "boxes" to check off to complete the requirements for Medicare. -
10 years post-op - weight gain question
c566 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, I had my initial surgery 10 years ago. I lost 98 lbs and it brought my 5'6" frame to a svelte 156.00 lbs. I was looking and feeling great. Then I started to get sick and was passing out about 2 years post-op. I found out my lapband had slipped and I went in for a revision. Again 3 years later I had to have another revision. After that time I gained weight and leveled at 180 lbs. I didn't like the number but with exercise I looked okay and felt good, so I was okay with it. Push forward 4 years and I have gained another 25 lbs and now weight 205 lbs. I have tracked my food intake for one-full year and I average 1100 calories per day. So how in the heck can I now weigh 205 lbs? I went to the surgeon and was sent for a swallow test and was told my lapband had been tilted and was extremely tight and there was no reason to gain weight. I was documenting food right down to one tic tac. Last month I had a double hernia surgery and it was performed by a surgeon who also handles gastric weight loss surgeries (not my original surgeon). He stated that my port was located in a weird area, and not the norm, the port was disconnected from the band and therefore, was not working! Not what I was told by my original surgeon. This surgeon re-connected the band and stated, the band is not tilted, nor is it too tight since it was empty, and he can fill it in February. My question is this: I keep feeling bloated and I continue to gain weight, I am currently 209 lbs. I cannot locate anything online that states how many calories is normal for labband patients. I find diets up to 4 weeks post op but nothing for long term. Would I be okay with 1100 calories and making that up with 75-80 grams of Protein per day? Should I be doing less calories? Has anyone been successful with 21 day fix or some other program in addition to the lapband? I really need help I do not want to continue to climb the ladder of weight until I am adjusted. Thank you! -

I'm so upset, I'm a slow loser
jasmineinmymind replied to Panda333's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeahhhh...I am approaching my 1 year mark and Im still at like 85 pounds lost. If you would have told me that I couldnt lose the 100 pounds I set out to lose in a YEAR I would have had a freakin heart attack. In fact when I had my consultation I asked how long it might take me to reach goal and they said "it takes some people 6 months, some people a year" and I said "A year??" and here I am a year later and NOT AT GOAL. I even revised my goal to 160 instead of 150 because I dont want to get too down. Im honestly just sick of this. I'm a size 10-12. Sometimes I think F--- it. Thats it. I'm done. But then I saw pics of myself at Christmas and I still feel like I have too much fat in my face and I want to lose my extra belly fat. Im so tired of the struggle. I'm tired of seeing other people lose so freakin fast. Im tired of people yelling at me for not being thrilled to lose 80 pounds. Thats LESS THAN 10 POUNDS A MONTH. ugh!! This surgery is not all it's cracked up to be. Its definitely not easy. By the way I do not eat junk food, dont eat deserts, i go to the gym, I eat protein. My body is ajust horrible and doesnt want to let go of fat. Thank you terrible genes. -
January 2020 Surgery Date
sarahSingh91 replied to Krimsonbutterflies's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
O wow lol yes Cigna is a great insurance. And they will also allow revisions or any other needs that we need to continue to be at a healthy weight!! It such a blessing to have an insurance that actually cares!!! I have my pre op Jan 8 and my surgery Jan 14. I am so excited. I only have 48hours of clear liquids before surgery. Obviously I also have a 8 hour no food restriction prior to the actual surgery. It is getting so close. I am so excited for this new journey but I am also so scared for surgery. Thankfully I am at the top rated center of excellence in the US and my surgeon deals with all the mess ups lol 😂 people fly from all over to come see him. So that really puts me at ease. He also does a numbing injection at all injection sites so the lain is very minimal so we are able to walk a round to avoid blood clotting etc. -
NYE 2019 surgery date twin?
lovinglv replied to Bamachicvsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happy New Year to us! Im going in for band revision/gastric bypass tomorrow morning too . In La Jolla, CA *feeling pretty damn nervous.lol -
I'm currently in a weird place. 6 years out from my gastric bypass, 33 weeks pregnant, and on a feeding (nj) tube because I have a peptic ulcer and stricture so bad that I cant even keep water down. This is my first time having a stricture diagnosis. From what I'm told it is one of the worst most of the doctors here have seen. They had to navigate a wire through the stricture first just so they could have a feeding tube get in to my intestine. Doctors are thinking a ballooning of the stricture wont work because there is a lot of scar tissue. Surgery/ revision was mentioned. Has anyone had a surgery to correct this issue before? What was the down time? I currently have to wait 3 weeks to have my baby, then schedule a surgery. I'm just trying to see what the road ahead will look like. I haven't eaten anything since Thanksgiving and am going a little crazy not even being able to keep water down orally.

Sleeve revision to RNY or Bypass reason
bikerchick519 replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a sleeve revision to mini gastric bypass. But it didn't fix my acid reflux and now I need a revision to full gastric bypass because the reflux can't be helped with medication. They say my esophageal sphincter is not closing. -
Overstitch procedure
Hop_Scotch replied to suezee9's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have an ESG (not as a revision) and am very happy with the result. This is a copy and paste from my doctor's ESG FAQ https://bmiclinic.com.au/endoscopic-sleeve-gastroplasty-faq/ Can I have an ESG following a gastric balloon, gastric sleeve or gastric bypass? ESG following gastric balloon: Recent research has revealed that people who’ve had a gastric balloon do less well following ESG in terms of weight loss. For this reason, we do not recommend ESG to anyone who’s has previously had a gastric balloon. ESG following gastric sleeve: Endoscopic revision of a gastric sleeve is possible, however the weight loss that results is only approximately 10% of the baseline weight. There are likely more effective options which you can talk through with your Bariatric Specialist. ESG following gastric bypass: Endoscopic suturing is possible via a procedure called TORe, Transoral Outlet Revision. -
Foods to avoid to improve scar healing?
Losingit2018 replied to rs's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Not sure about food but, I used vitamin e oil after my sleeve with good results. This is what I plan to do since my recent revision once incisions are healed enough as well. The oil is pricey. I just get the bit e vitamins and cut one end of the gel capsule to apply. Much less expensive this way. -
Sleeve revision to RNY or Bypass reason
dorkyfaerie replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am likely revising to RNY from sleeve in May or June 2020 (I would do it right away, but have too many prior commitments between now and May that I can’t). I have constant GERD that has not responded well to any treatments and did have controlled GERD prior to sleeve. -

Trouble getting approved for revision

I was sleeved about 4 years ago since then I have been on a different antidepressant and gaining weight back. Starting weight 368 lost 114 pounds now I’m back to 302. Doctor says revision is not an option because of meds. Has anyone else had trouble getting doctor to do revision? thank you -

Sleeve revision to mini vs full bypass
bikerchick519 replied to Missynik's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the sleeve and after horrible reflux had the mini because I was told it would fix it. Reflux is worse than ever and now I need a full bypass. Super upset I have to have another surgery. I wish I would have just gotten the full bypass and not the mini but that's what my surgeon recommended. Waiting to see if insurance will pay for this revision, they denied me last time. -
Is a 2nd revision even possible?
bikerchick519 replied to Photo925's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the sleeve and then had horrible acid reflux and found out the sleeve was stretched. I had the mini gastric bypass because I was told that would fix it. Well it didn't. I have even worse reflux and found out my esophageal sphincter is not closing. Medication does nothing. After extensive testing I'm being told I need a full gastric bypass. I'm waiting to see if insurance will pay this time. They refused to pay for a revision last time stating my bmi wasn't high enough and I had no co-morbidities. My surgeon is confident he can get it approved so now I'm just waiting to see if it's covered. My first 2 surgeries were in Mexico.
