NSV: New Underwear
BandedBrunette481 replied to PrettyThick1's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was JUST thinking about this today when I was folding my laundry. I was like "Wait...am I going to have to buy new underwear soon!?" Hahaha congrats on your nsv! -
This might be TMI...but we all get excited about going down a clothing size, right? I've just purchased the smallest underwear I've been able to wear since about age 9 and a whopping 3 sizes since my surgery. Women, we KNOW that's a big difference. Woo hoo!

Weight loss stall so early into the game...feeling let down
gowalking replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wendy, Wendy, Wendy...have you not read posts about just this very thing? Of course you lost alot of weight on liquids. But you can't be afraid of food. And you can't obsess over the scale. I mean it....put it away. Just focus on eating well, portion control, and exercise. That's all it is. The weight will come off...give it some time. If I've said it once, I've said it a million times...you didn't gain it overnight, and you won't lose it that way either. Stop putting so much pressure on yourself. Follow your doctor's instructions, and don't look at that scale again for at least a month. Oh, and look for the NSVs...you'll find plenty, I guarantee it. Good luck! -
Good for you Butterpants!! That's an NSV for sure Today is the 10th, I will lift today, so I will have worked out 7 days already in February and 3 of those included cardio so I am well on my way to accomplishing my February fitness challenge - oh, and I did PULL UPS!! I had to have a buddy hoist my feet a little, but I still did them!

Have to share my NSV today. I got into my old size 12 gap jeans today. I wore these before all the prednisone and kept them just in case someday may come. Well it's here and I'm so excited. I have to say thanks to Carolina girl for something she had said in a post about not getting discouraged when the scale isn't moving because we are still losing inches. This could not be more true!!! I haven't lost anymore but thought I would give it a try and I'm so glad...

OVER 200lbs lost never to be found
rabrijumo replied to rabrijumo's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thanks all! I am glad I could inspire anyone. One tip I would say to everyone but especially those who have a lot to lose like I did- focus on the life style changes, making improvements to the non wt loss number issues! I could easily revert back to the bad habits of eating to comfort, over eating food and sweets especially if my wt loss stalls. Wt loss WILL STALL, it's the nature of the beast. So the nsv or non scale victories and changing life long habits are a much more emotionally satisfying focus and keeps you moving forward then scale obsession. Good luck all! -
I would like to start a thread that encourages long term vets to share their success patterns. It is an open discussion of strategies, NSVs and day to day habits that define your success in being able to maintain or even improve in terms of weight, health, activity or anything else connected to this journey. Life as a vet is where the real work happens so let's share in a way that motivates both new post ops for the future and current vets for the here and now. We have a whole new chapter in our lives to engage in positively as movers and shakers. Let this thread be a beacon of encouragement for all. We have a chance to make real positive differences in the lives of others we interact with.

100 pounds so far....

Great job...congrats!!!! Crossing my legs was a HUGE NSV for me !!! -
Well it has been three months since my last blog (6 months from surgery) and I'm happy to say I've lost another 30 lbs for a total of 90 lbs lost!! Current weight- 274. Whoo-hoo!! I think this is the first time ever that I've lost weight during the holidays. I've been averaging a loss of 10 lbs a month. Very happy with that. I've been getting very small fills. In fact I've only got 3 cc's in my 10 cc band. I still don't have alot of restriction but I count my calories, exercise and follow the rules. We've had a very cold winter so instead of doing my walking outside I've been doing low impact cardio workouts. My two favorite being Shapely Girl and the Biggest Loser Power Walk. I'm looking forward to warm weather and today I signed up for the Blue and You fitness challenge. This is something I did last year and it's basically just making a commitment to exercise 3 days a week for at least 30 minutes. Now what I'm really excited about is that I signed up for my first 5K!! It is May 3rd and I have the option to walk but I would love to run as much as possible. I know I can easily walk 3 miles but I haven't even attempted to run. I have wanted to try running but I don't want anyone seeing me. I know this is something I need to get over but when I go to the walking trails the only people I see running are already really fit and skinny. Ugh!! Well time to get over it because starting this week (wait it's snowing) ok next week I'm going to start training for this 5K. So besides all that my band seems to being doing well. I have had some pain in my left shoulder for about 3 months now. At first I thought I had injured it but then I realized that the way the pain would come and go, hurt when I would bend over for any length of time (cleaning) and when first laying down in bed that it seemed to be a nerve issue. I did some research and found that it is not uncommon for bandsters to have this pain. It is caused by a nerve- phrenic nerve- that runs through the diaphragm. It hurts everyday but luckily not ALL day so I can handle that. Other than that I haven't had any problems really. There is nothing I have found that I can't eat (but alot I choose not to!!) Oh yeah, I had a pretty sweet NSV this morning. I was chatting with a co-worker this morning and looked down and realized that I had my legs crossed. Wow! It's been a long time since I could do that.

Any other September 2013 bandsters?
NewMeDebbie replied to Irishflower79's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well I am now convinced my body just loses weight funny. I have literally weighed the EXACT same for the past 3 days! not an ounce different. Only eating 1200 calories and walking 2 miles a day and that scale doesn't want to budge! Funny thing is that it really doesn't bother me now because I know it will eventually. It seems I go for a couple weeks with little change and then I just drop 4-7 lbs overnight!! It makes no sense but I am starting to understand my body better now and I will take what I can get!! And I still notice the NSV differences in my clothes and the way I feel. I can now walk longer with less effort and no heavin and hoein...lol -

Asked to Model Clothes, My NSV moments

This has been a huge NSV week for me. 1. I ran down stairs to show my husband that I can wrap a towel round me and tuck it in. Woohoo! Did I mention I can run down stairs now too? 2. I can now fit into a size 10 jeans. OMG! 3. I can now walk on my treadmill for over an hour without stopping (3.5 mph). At the beginning of this journey I couldn't walk for more that 10 minutes at a slower pace. 4. I am no longer obese. My BMI is under 30. 5. Lastly while I was shopping at Christoper & Banks I found out I now fit into a SIZE 10! Then to my surprise the clerk approached me and asked if I would be interested in modeling their clothes at an upcoming event. Huh, was she talking to me? She must have been, I was the only customer in the store. I politely turned her down but I was still stunned. The clerk proceeded to tell me how she must be 20 years my senior. To me I figured her to be no more than 50 y/o. I am 42. Woohoo for me! -
Before And After Gastric Sleeve Surgery Photos

Your after dress is so flippin' cute! The NSV I am most looking forward to is trying one, buying and wearing cute clothes! Great Job! -
I went to the doctor today because I'm sick (clearly NOT the NSV) and I had forgotten to take my blood pressure meds prior to leaving. I've been on meds for my bp since I was 18 years old, so almost 14 years. A lot of the time, even with the meds, my bp was borderline high. Well today, without my meds, my bp was 114/62! Since I'm an RN and I work in a cardiovascular surgery ICU, I know how important it is to keep your bp in check. I'm really excited to follow up with my primary doctor in a couple weeks so she can see how well I'm doing. I was sad I had to see another doc today, but the office staff were all just amazed at my progress! Thank you lap band!!

I wouldn't mind so much if......
BellaHugz replied to longtimecoming7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to look back and reflect on how much weight you gained when you did have all those Snacks. This year reward yourself with a treat of a new outfit, manicure or a facial. Change your mindset from not loosing to not gaining and count that as a reward. Also take out the measuring tape and see if your body changed and shrunk. Usually the Nsv are just as great to Celebrate as the LBs dropping. Embrace your new lifestyle, your doing great!! -

My NSV: last week my 22yo son said to me that he can't remember what I looked like when I was heavy. 5 years + banded, I've been heavy longer than I have not, but he can't remember anymore. He was 17 when I got banded. -
My hubby just told me to stop losing weight!
Wls4me posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Never thought I'd hear that. He's been very supportive through all of this. I hit goal and lost another 5 lbs. I'm 5'6" and 155 lbs. my size 10 jeans are getting a little baggy. I'm happy where I'm at and am going to try to stop losing. But that was a very unexpected compliment for sure. Think that counts as a NSV. -

Great inspiring post. Been Mia for a while just living life. My NSV is my overall change in my thinking. Had a bump in the road of dating found out me wonderful well was not so much and the old me would of harped to figure out why and after a month or so gotten over it . The new me within two days is moving forward slightly bruised but not looking back. I got banded to be healthier which resulted in me being happier which resulted in me truly not settling less than I deserve . I know people say it hell I said it but settled this time no settling. Which I'm over the moon about to be living what I have been preaching lol... On a gym note I'm doing burpees wth can't do a lot but I'm doing them and each time I do it I'm in awe that I'm doing it. Sept 2013 couldn't do it and know I'm doing several during my classes. I beam in Btwn gasping for air as I'm working out not cause I can't do the workout but because I keep pushing my limits to be a healthier person. My trainer doesn't know about the lap band but his encouragement n motivation has transformed my body as well he pushed and believed in me when I sure I couldn't do the workouts. Now I'm a gym rat lol -
Keep rockin' that sleeve. Congrats. I just had a NSV myself.........I can wrap a towel completely around myself and tuck it in.

I usually work out during my lunch hour. I work at a fire station so we have a fitness room, no excuses. I do about 20 minutes of treadmill and jog for a minutes here and there. Then I do light weights many repetitions for a good 30mins 4-5 days a week. I also do 2-3 of kickboxing a week for 50 mins. The scale has not moved for a few months and its dissapointing because I won't be meeting my goal of 100 by march Anyways, my body is shaping up and my clothes fit alot lose. I look horrible in my current clothes and new new ones asap. But basically i was told that I was building muscle and losing fat with NSV. People say numbers don't matter but they sure do to me lol!. Havent' been on this site for a while. It is very encouraging to read your profile and see how well you have done with the lab band. Lately I been reading alot of negative outcomes in a different site and I been feeling a bit depressing over it and I am already thinking of what I should do if something goes wrong with my band. So far everything has been going very well and I have been on the green zone for a good 2 months. Have a nice day all!
