  1. As you say, there are no guarantees, and no set stats to the questions you ask. I can tell you in my case, I still eat everything except glazed donuts! I swallowed a bite too quickly and those 2 bites felt like they grew to the size of 2 dozen!!! I have never tried another! I have only PB'd one other time, and it was a piece of popcorn chicken as I was shopping in Walmart, I forgot what I was doing popped it in my mouth chewed a couple times and swallowed, as it went down my throat, I realized what I did!!! And sure enough it got stuck, and I was miserable! But in 15 months those were my only bad times really. I have had the golfball feeling where I ate too fast or too much, and it feels stuck in my esophagus---but when I walk a bit, and breath deep it settles down. I take small bites, I chew well, and give each bite a few minutes to go down before taking the next bite. I learned to really pay attention to my body. When I get full, my nose feels kinda itchy, and like it wants to run---if I eat another bite, it turns to hiccups, and if I eat anymore, I am miserable!!! The bodies natural reaction to us overeating is to start sliming to try to help it pass. The body produces HUGE amounts of thick gooey saliva. So I think the runny nose is something to do with the whole mucus thing. It is called a soft stop, and most people have it if you will just pay close attention. A big majority of banders do end up giving up bread. Bread tends to get into the stomach and ball up, and then as it breaks down it is full of gluten, and is very hard to pass. Toasting often helps, and I find it easier to say eat a sandwich than just a slice of bread. Well part of a sandwich! If I have meat and cheese, to help digest the bread it works better, than the bread alone. Watching to make sure you are not overfilled when that time comes is the best way to avoid eliminating foods from your diet. You should be able to eat hard Protein without issue. If you can't you need less fill. Go very slowly when introducing new foods, or foods with high Water content---fruits for instance, they tend to be something I have to eat very carefully. It is like drinking with food I think, it feels like the fruit floats---so I have to take tiny slow bites. If you go slow, and give each bite some time, you should be able to avoid a serious PB issue, and if one happens it should be minor. Another thing to keep in mind is that these bands are fickle!!! One day you may be unable to eat something, and the next day it will be fine, or just the opposite, you may eat yogurt every day for Breakfast, and one day it will not work for you. It can be the same way from lunch to dinner! Why we suddenly have more restriction at some times, I have no idea, just be aware of how things feel as they go down and react accordingly. If it does not feel right, stop. You can always find something to eat later if you feel better, just don't ever push it----it WILL push back!!! Welcome to LBT, and welcome to bandland! Hope all goes well for you! Kat

just had a fill....a little worried

Have you tried anything but liquids? How are the liquids going down? Are you coughing on your saliva or anything? I just had 0.5cc of saline taken out of my band today. I got a fill on 8/14 and it was perfect but for the last week I have been getting tighter and tighter. Today I couldn't even eat a whole container of yogurt then I PB'd turkey and cheese at lunch and I felt like I was coughing on my saliva. When I went in they said I definately was getting too tight. Let me know.

    Pre-op Diet is a killer

I hear ya- my pre op diet sounds exactly like yours except I found out I can have SF Popsicles and SF Jello and some kind of Yogurt 4 oz with the Protein powder or silk or 1/% milk or carnation instant breakfast- but pretty much - I just drank broth and tea all day and tried to keep busy.

New here! 1 week post op

I had to experiment with various protein drinks post-op, because my tastes for them definitely changed and some were less pleasant than others for my new sleeve. The ones I ended up drinking were EAS AdventEDGE Carb Control, which I bought at Walmart and Target. Another thing you can try to do is add unflavored whey protein powder to your soups and yogurts. Just be careful when adding it to soup. If the soup is too hot, it can cause the powder to curdle.

Newbie and not sure where to post

Yes I got a booklet. Days 3-7 it says to have 3 protein shakes a day along with 2 other items which there was a list for like sf pudding and jello applesauce and yogurt smoothies. I figured liquid was liquid. Just didn't want to screw anything up! I can start creamy soups with no chunks on day 8. Just wasn't sure what exactly was meant. Maybe I will call to clarify. Thanks!!!

    Help !

It just was uncomfortable and hurt when I would try and eat. I got different advice/opinions about the situation as well. Suggesting that maybe my body now couldn't handle dairy, maybe I was eating foods with too much acidity, maybe I was eating too fast, etc. It would feel like heartburn or like a lot of pressure in my head when I would try to eat something new or different. I'm not sure how else to explain it. So I've become rather fond of yogurts, jellos, puddings, soups, applesauce, and of course sugar free popsicles. Kay_G_B

    Low Carb Yogurt

I am ready to try yogurts again. I know Greek yogurt is the best option but I can't find any that are low carb enough. My favorite brand is Cabot and chobani but they seem to have too much sugar... Like 10-30 grams. What is everyone using? Thanks
  10. Is yogurt and pudding considered part of the liquid diet?
  11. LOL! I've never been a fan of Greek Yogurt (I hear it's an acquired taste), but I'm loving my Yoplait Light in yummy flavors - Boston Cream Pie is the best! Of course, I'm still supplementing with protein shakes, but that little extra taste is yum!
  12. Be careful of the sugar content in the yogurts!
  13. I've since tried Chobani's flavored Greek yogurts and LOVE them! I don't even want to eat regular yogurt anymore because they can't compare with the protein content of Greek!

    Finally!

I am 6 days post op and I decided since tomorrow is a week why not try an oz. of yogurt. I was so scared but I was tired of liquids. I finally had some solid food and it sat well with me!! Thank GOD!
  17. Try unflavored greek yogurt and mix a little at a time until your tuna salad is moist enough.
  18. Yes, unjury is the one I would recommend as well. I've tried others and Unjury just mixes better. I put it in my Greek yogurt every day!!

I Don't Know What to Eat?

At 7 weeks out, my dietary restrictions were gone so it was "whatever you can tolerate". That said, I am the WORST about remembering ANYTHING, but I will list a few of my fav's below. I will say that I was still really sticking to Protein at this point. String cheese sticks, pepperoni stix, salmon, shrimp, lunch meat/cheese roll ups, Fage greek yogurt (w/ fruit mixed in....couldn't stand the plain any way I tried it), chicken salad, tuna salad, eggs, eggs, eggs! I ate boiled eggs, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, deviled eggs....(picture Forest Gump talking about shrimp...tee hee). Eggs were my friend during this stage and thankfully they agreed with me b/c I loved them. Now that said, I did eat anything else I wanted in moderation and just tried little bits and pieces of what hubby and kids had (after I had eaten my protein) mainly to see what I could tolerate. Slowly came to realize that there wasn't a lot that I couldn't have. Just came down to getting in protein and Water and then making sure I was stopping when satisfied and not getting stuffed.
  21. Sounds like we all have a touch of it eh? I have put on 3 pounds in the last 4-5 days and have a cruise I go on beginning this Friday. Not good. I do have the body bugg but I've even lost the interest to wear that secondary to the weight gain. We were told we would likely not lose and may gain weight during this time but I DO NOT like it. Last night I was eating some Golden spoon yogurt (20c/oz) and it was a sizable bowl (bout 8 oz). My husband goes by and says, "That's why you put on a pound". He was smiling but when I looked up at him, the smile melted away lol. He paid for this surgery so this gives me more feelings of pressure. I know that when I DO go back to work they will all expect me to be on my way to weight loss heaven. *sigh*. All these pity-pot feelings when I should be thanking God for all these blessings He's heaped on me. Just goes to show you, that no matter how much you have, you always want more. Thanks for your ear (eyes, I should say lol).
  22. Hello... my surgery is in a few weeks, and I was curious if Kefir is allowed. For those that don't know, its a drinkable yogurt..just a little thicker. It has protein in it, but I know there are carbs and sugar in it. Just thought it sounded good for post op... any thoughts?

    Change of tastes in food

Noticed that I like mushy food that I would never have considered eating before, such as yogurt. You couldn't get me to eat that no matter what. Now Chobani (Greek yougurt) is my friend. It's VERY strange not being hungry. Was banded 3/2/11 and have lost 19 lbs. Lots of new found energy. As it is a 15 days, my body in space hasn't quite adjusted. As I can move faster with less effort if I turn too quickly, I have bounced into walls (2x)! So far, so good.

    Lactose Intolerance And Protein Shakes

Syntrax Nectars are Whey Isolate I think and they are wonderful. I add just a small amount of apple juice to enhance the flavor and I love them! Gold Standard makes a great product as well that is whey isolate. I became lactose intolerant after surgery and cannot eat cheese, yogurt or anything with dairy. But these protein drinks are fine... Living the dream, Laura
  25. I've been getting what I would call "pre-headaches", that feeling of almost-wooziness where you know it could turn into pain. I've learned that's my sign I'm not eating/drinking enough. The first day or two I managed to have 2 protein shakes each day, maybe a glass of Crystal light. DEFINITELY not enough. In the next few days it would be more like 1 shake, 1 yogurt, 1 juice. I'm still struggling really, really hard to get enough nutrients to avoid the "pass out" feeling. Maybe this is happening for you too? Do you think you're getting enough fluids?
