    Any Vegetarian Banders?

I'm an aspiring vegetarian. I get a heavy hit of protein from my morning shake. EAS Carb Control only has 100 or so calories for around 20 grams of protein, so if I have a very low protein day, I can always have a second shake to round it out. I also eat beans, tofu, etc. without a problem. Had a problem once with cooked spinach, but not since. It's all about getting to be friends with YOUR band. There were things I couldn't eat at first. Now I know how to eat anything, but some foods just aren't worth the trouble, so your tastes and desires change a bit. I struggle with shrimp so I just don't bother with them anymore...but I eat crab without a problem. I eat raw salads every day. After awhile, you just get used to your band and how much each food needs to be chewed. And you do little weird things to adapt. I made cooked cherry tomatoes last night...popped one in my mouth and realized they had a really thick tough skin. So I chewed, took out the skin, and swallowed the rest, rather than risk it. You get good at doing that stuff so no one sees, and it becomes second nature. You may stuggle at first but you'll be fine.

    Any Vegetarian Banders?

I to am a vegetarian. I was banded three weeks ago and am just starting to get on "solid foods". I agree with you, the thought of never eating asparagus was quite depressing as I love it. My doc said I could try it soon and see how I do. No issues with anything thus far. Chickpeas, veggie sloppy joe, veggie spaghetti sauce with spaghetti squash.... all did well. I will keep you posted.

    Winter Months

Thank you. I do it by busting my butt. No white carbs, very little meat (I'm pretty much vegetarian at this point except fish), I keep calories at 600 daily, and hard cardio daily. My goal is to have surgery, lose 102 pounds, and have plastic surgery in one year. I was banded 12/6/06 and my plastic surgery is scheduled for 12/3/07.

    Better Seen...

Well, I don't think the commercial is that bad. I've seen commercials where people were wearing clothes that showed more than that, lol. I really, REALLY don't understand AT ALL what the visuals in that commercial have to do with being a vegetarian...?

    Any Vegetarian Banders?

Not a vegetarian, but I don't eat red meat, and eat veggie probably 60% of the time. With the lap-band there aren't any guaranteed eating nevers. I'm about 18 months out and have yet to find something I can't eat. I had asparagus lastnight, eat it about once a week, it's one of my favorite vegetables. It just takes a lot of chewing, and I have to trim off more than I would pre-op. Rubbed in olive oil, sprinkled with garlic salt, and cooked on the grill. Mmmmmm. I lurve lentils - probably have them cold in a salad or hot in a Soup 2x or 3x a week. A store by my work, where I usually have lunch (IF I have lunch) has a great Turkish lentil curry soup - and I don't even like curry.
  6. Hi Just trying to get my head around all the preparations and my future, and I was wondering if there are any vegetarians ont he forum? My booklet says I will never be able to eat asparagus and other very fibrous foods again, but nearly everything I read refers to steak, chicken etc - no lentils, and heavy fibre diet. Anyone?
  7. Yesterday here's what I had: B: Yoplait vanilla Yogurt L: Vegetarian Vegetable Soup (1 can, no Water added) and 3 crackers D: Boca Burger patty with ketchup, mustard, and relish S: Jello pudding and couple of chips with queso (I couldn't resist!) Also, between 70 and 80 ounces of water/tea and 2 Flintstones daily. Some of what you can eat will determine what/when your restriction is. I am *very* tight in the mornings and pretty loose about 4, getting tighter again by bedtime, so lunch and an early dinner are when I try to pack in my nutrients.

Alicia Silverstone is in the news lately for a sexy, nudish video/advertisement she's done for PETA. Apparently, there is some controversy over it, and it has been banned in parts of Texas.Well, not exactly banned. It appears some local stations won't air it for being too suggestive. That's Texas for you. They get kinda weird over there. In my opinion, the nudity ain't that much, and doesn't show much either. It's just a teaser video, basically, and contains a voice over of Alicia talking about her healthy vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. Don't worry, there are no pink parts on display, so this is SFW, seeing as how it was intended for network television. I'm assuming the purpose is to convince us all to eat more broccoli and tofu or something like that. Watch the video in the link below, and see if it makes you crave a salad bar: [ame=http://youtube.com/watch?v=bFlNnoE75K4]YouTube - Alicia Silverstone -Peta Advertising[/ame] Screw the broccoli. I want a taco. :eyebrows:

    Any vegetarians out there?

I've been a lacto-vegetarian for 53 years and I have to rely on Protein drinks although I don't like them either. I make a big pot of vegetarian chili or lentil Soup and am content to eat it every day. I am an aesthetic vegetarian so I have no interest in vegetarian foods that are textured or seasoned to resemble meat. Getting Protein is a real chore for me. I shoot for 50-55 grams daily. Kay's Naturals makes protein chips which I really like as a snack. One ounce has 10 grams of protein. I love the chil nacho cheese. They are a little difficult to find and kind of pricey. I was paying $3.29 but got a great deal at Amazon grocery, 12 for about 26.00.

    Any vegetarians out there?

I'm a "VegAquarium" (fish eater) and am addicted to most all of the MorningStar Farms vegetarian/meat-free alternatives as well as ALL of the GardenBurger veggie items. If it weren't for these and tuna, I would never meet my daily quota of 60 grams of Protein. Best of luck, -Shannon
  12. Hi all! I have been banded for 2 years but due to several surgeries and medical complications have not been able to be filled or really lose weight . So now I **finally** got my fill and am feeling pretty good with a good amount of restriction. However, I am a vegetarian and am having problems finding ways to get enough Protein in without heavy loading on the cheese. I love cheese, which is what I always relied on for protein and is a huge reason that I needed the band in the first place! I have been eating yogurt and baked Beans for protein but wanted some other ideas. :help: I hate the Protein shakes and they make me start to gag so please don't tell me that those are my only option! Thanks!
  13. I am doing a lot of canned 98% ff chicken blended with salsa, tuna with ff ranch dressing, ff cottage cheese with natural apple sauce mixed in, vegetarian baked beans blended with ff cheese and still lots of soups.

Welcome to the "At or near goal forum"

I have Protein challenges without fish and while I LOVE Matrix 5.0, I don't want to depend on Protein shakes for the bulk of my protein. I have been reading and participating in a tofo thread and I have my hopes up for tofu vs. chicken or tuna. I'm pretty well over chicken, it's fish that is my challenge. Replacing that protein in salads. I was vegetarian for many years and want to go back to that. I felt better, slept less, everything was better with a veggie diet.
  15. That's the way my DS eats mostly. He wants to be a Veggie, but finds it hard (he is only 10.5, so I have to give the kid credit for even trying) So he eats fish whenever we go out, and while he is away at school camp, he will be eating whatever is served (we decided not to tick the vegetarian box, after seeing the menu - yuck!) If you want some recipes, I am happy to share, just let me know! I really look forward to reading the post that announces your Vegetarianism.

Welcome to the "At or near goal forum"

I'm working on the vegetarian thing and I'm almost there. Fish once in a while but veggies otherwise. I still need a drastic increase in variety though. I am a naturally lazy person when it comes to cooking.
  17. *Blushes* I am actually a Vegetarian. Considering going Vegan. If I didn't eat veggies, I would starve to death. I actually lost weight quicker, and my muscle tone was better after going veggie. Maybe it was because I was more aware of what I was eating, and what I was putting into my body? I don't know. All I know is, this is the only body I have for this lifetime, and I have already damaged it to a degree I care not to think about, and if I can avoid any further damage, I will. Complicated answer to a simple question (Bowing theatrically, and exits stage left)

    For all you losers.......

I totally changed my lifestyle. I started by going organic, and concentrating on whole unprocessed foods, and later became vegetarian. Personally I do not subscribe to the "protein first" thing. I eat a balanced diet of veggies, protein and carbs. Because we need all three to fuel our bodies. Best of luck!
  19. Hiya Cagstorm! Welcome to LBT. My whole family (my almost 11 year old, and husband) have become so much more active. We all eat so much better than before, and I think we are just more aware of our bodies, and what we are doing to them, and putting in them. I have never really subscribed to the whole "Protein first" thing. I eat a balanced diet, and while that (to me anyway) includes protein, it also includes veggies and carbs. But to answer your question, beans go down great! I would starve without them (I am vegetarian) I wish you the best of luck on your banded journey!

    Calling Chickie....

I will post in the "before & After" thread when I have had my hair and make -up done. I am going to the theatre on Friday night with DH (hence the hair make up and fancy pants), I will get the boy-child to take some photos, that pic was just for me to "see" what the suit looked like on. Now I am blushing! Thank you! The 0cc fill is just so I stop losing. At this stage, I am a pretty strict vegetarian, and the majority of my favoured foods are very bulky, and by nature low fat and calorie. Add to that the running and other exercise. I am at a point where I don,t want to lose any more weight. I weigh on a good day 49kg / 107lbs, and that is the low end of a healthy weight for my height. We tried taking the fill out 0.5cc at a time, but I was still losing, so it all came out, and at this stage, I appear to be maintaining. I must say, I do feel all special now, having been "called out" like this!! Thank you!

    Any Banded Vegetarians out there?

Hi...I'm not a vegetarian, but I am interested in tofu and other soy products. Any ideas for breakfast?

Hi Savory, At the top of this site in "Search" type in "Vegetarian" and there are posts that come up. Your doctor will help you in the area of food choices, but apparently it is do-able. Regards, Alfie

    Vegetarian

I'm vegetarian. My doc told me he'd only had 2 vegetarians prior to me and "one didn't lose very much weight." Whatever. You can totally do it. I'd been completely veggie for 15 years when I got banded. At my doc's encouragement, I tried to eat fish for a while once I got banded. I ate it maybe 10 times. I'll still try a bite or two -- I even cooked some last week -- but I'm just a pure vegetarian at heart. To answer your question, I eat a lot of (1) cottage cheese, (2) TVP (nutri system makes a fabulous veggie sloppy joe that you can order a la carte and works wonders for travel), (3) LF cheese (I eat at least 2 babybels a day), (4) soy chips, (5) greek yogurt. I have no probs getting in 50 g of Protein a day, which is what I need for my height/target weight. As for ameno acids, I have no idea! I'm probably seriously deficient.
  25. Glad to help! I don't have a tofu cheesecake recipe that I have personally made and can recommend. I'll have to dig into my archives for more good tofu recipes. I have one that I love that is a garlicky Pasta recipe, but I'm not sure how many of you bandsters are looking for a pasta recipe. Vegetarian cookbooks seem to be big into that. I'll look to see what else I have and come back with 'em.
