Finally have surgery date. 4/2/13
lyndeeboo replied to kari61's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good luck with your surgery! I'm currently in the process of doing the insurance requirements and can't imagine how excited you must be to finally have a date! I also was on track to get banded but have decided to switch to the sleeve. I've been hearing of too many people who have been banded only to have revision surgery and more than one surgery is (hopefully!) not for me. I am ready to start my new healthier life NOW!!! -
It sounds like you are happy and excited about your revision....so, CONGRATS! Wishing you much success in your new journey!

Surgeon said revision's 50/50 failure!?
WantToBe replied to missblonde20's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had band for 11 1/2 years and lost over 100 pounds but had to have it out. I'm getting sleeve next month 5 months after band removal. My surgeon has experienced lots of weight loss with band to sleeve revisions. My surgeon has mandatory 4 month weight once lose band so stomach can heal. I have never read anything similar to what your surgeon is stating. I would be concerned your surgeon might have another motive? Good luck with your decision. -
If you have had a band for five years or more...
fabfatgrl replied to Qvrfullmidwife's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've had a Band for six years. Weight wise, I'm pregnant with my third Bandster baby and unfilled. The biggest issues I've had is in trying to refill the Band following pregnancies. It just hasn't worked the same. However, up until this pregnancy, I'd maintained 65 out of a 95 pound weight loss with no fills. So... not too shabby. I haven't experienced any reflux, errosion, etc. The biggest issues I've had are cost-related. It sucks to still have to pay for fills and unfills six years down the line. As a stay-at-home Mom now, it's a much bigger impact on me financially then when I was working in corporate America. The Band was the right surgery for me at the time. I don't regret it at all... even though , at the time, it wasn't even FDA approved and I traveled to Mexico for surgery. I would not have been comfortable going through three pregnancies with any other WLS. Having said that, if I were to look at surgery today (not wanting any more kids), I'd probably go for a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. The fill-factor gets old... fast. It took me five or six fills to get good restriction the first time. I've had numerous fills and unfills... and each has cost me on average $350. I'm going to try refilling again after this pregnancy (due any day now)... and see how it goes. If I still can't manage any restriction, I will probably have a revision. -
I really feel for you, Ovahkummer... hope it goes well the next time. I came close to not having the operation because my clinic didn't send all my blood work with me up to the hospital - they had to fax it straight to the anesthesiologist. I say you're still a member of the club in our hearts - once you get the incision, there is no revision! Please keep us posted!

Panniculectomy with large waist??
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Writergirl's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I had a 150 pound loss with my Lap Band, but never got to goal. And now I'm contemplating revision to RNY. I did have a tummy tuck 2 years ago. My surgeon was wonderful. She submitted to my insurance for a panniculectomy, but she said what I needed was a fleur de lis tummy tuck. So insurance approved the panniculectomy, but my surgeon did the fleur de lis, hernia repair and diastasis recti repair, and she didn't charge me extra. She is amazing. ❤️ One other note that I will add is I have a friend who was never a bariatric patient, but she had 4 kids and needed a tummy tuck, and her ob/gyn did the tummy tuck. She did not have good results at all and now regrets the decision. I would highly recommend having a plastic surgeon do your surgery. I think it's just a matter of finding the right surgeon in these situations. -
I am another one with bypass and don't dump for foods that should trigger it. It comes down to me not eating something simply because I shouldn't not because I can. Unfortunately, there are a lot of foods that I should be able to eat and can't so a revision isn't necessarily your answer to your situation. Keep your eye and mind on the journey!

Sleeve 5 years ago; now revision to bypass??
J San replied to KristinaW's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I 2nd @GreenTealael 's sentiment. It's either really bad scheduling or he's got so many "flukes" there is no way around scheduling them all together. I would definitely consult a 2nd surgeon, maybe even a 3rd. Sorry I can't give you any input on the revision but the bigger concern is this surgeons response to your question about the complainers. Best of luck to you!! Sorry @GreenTealael I wound up getting my curser stuck in the box of your name and can't type anything after it when that happens. So you get 3 shouts.@GreenTealael -
Sleeve 5 years ago; now revision to bypass??
KristinaW replied to KristinaW's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thanks MissPoodle. Did you have your revision surgery yet? If so, how far out are you and how has your experience been? -
I've been to Dr. Aceves twice for surgery, as well as my sister having surgery by him the same day as my first surgery. Both Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos excel in compassionate skilled care. The staff is very responsive to any needs you may have and their on-site patient coordinator, Yolanda, is a gem. I was there last Monday for my revision surgery from Lapband to VSG. I went totally alone, not having a family member that could go along and the friend that was planning to help me got terribly sick with the flu. I still went for surgery and I never had a doubt. From the moment I was picked up at San Diego Airport until the moment I was returned I knew I was in safe hands.

I took one tums. I while I was waiting for their office to open. I'm allowed to have tums occasionally, but if I'm finding I need them more than once a day I have to call their office on Tuesday to go on protonix as well. Im a revision from a band, so protonix and I ho back 7 years, as do my surgeon and I. I've already had 3 hospital stays dince the bypass. So they do keep on top of things.

Tried soft foods... Totally bummed
marfar7 replied to Jessica108's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It makes me sad when I read that people r having to give up whole food groups forever. Never dieting again is the reason I had wls in the first place. I must have a sleeve of steel cuz I can eat EVERYTHING. The first few months ice cream gave me tummy cramps and diarrhea but now I can eat it just fine (5 1/2 mths post band revision). I would be very sad if someone told me that after surgery I could never have beef, pork, or chicken again. Good luck! -
Brand New To The Group - Lap Band Has Slipped
kll724 replied to peapod001's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am sorry for their attitudes. You don't sound like a failure to me! You are probably right in thinking that labor caused your slip. I had aslip, and had a revision done withut replacement. Best wishes to you, and congrats on the birth of your baby. Karen -
I had the very same problem, I am 1 year out and 2 weeks ago I had a port revision. The doctor went in and moved my port because of the pain, I couldn't wear pants, sits forward, or even lift things. It was so painful, and now I have no pain at all, wear jeans again, sit normal and lift. It's been great. Talk to your doctor about moving your port

I hope you find your sweet spot and get the success you want. After I lost what I felt like was comfortable weight, I had my band unfilled thinking I could do the rest on my own. Not! When I returned to the doctor, after multiple visits, I could never find that sweet spot again. Too full, not full enough. I had it completely unfilled in August and have slowly put on weight. I have an appt with my Kaiser PCP tomorrow seeking a referral for band to sleeve revision. My advice is when you find your sweet spot... Leave it alone or it will forever be lost. Best of luck to you.

Slow loser due to my age?
carelabra replied to brown eyed gal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 1 year out and have lost 97 lbs since surgery and 127 lbs total. Highest weight was 320 and I'm now at 197. My doc says only 20-25 more lbs will be enough for me. I had the revision to RouxNY -
All my adult life till 40 I weighed 98lbs. At 5'4" My ideal weight was 125. I was banded in 2005 at 250lbs. I tried to tell the Dr.'s I didn't over eat, and they told me the band was the way to go, and I knew I didn't want to give up the foods I loved, just the ability to eat less again. Right after surgery I was in alot of pain, Dr. couldn't understand why and kept me overnight. About 8pm my port flip'd and the pain went away. For at least 4 months I tried to convince the Dr. it wasn't working and finally he revised the port. I went on for months and had fill after fill and nothing. We filled with food, without, sideways, laying down, standing up... In 2009 just as my weight came on, so did it leave. I still do not over eat, have to remind myself to eat, just like when I was 98lbs. Although there is no sense of fullness, I do have bouts of pain when I eat certain foods. It dosn't matter how much I chew. I am now under 195/lbs, and since I am now 60, my skin does not retract, and does nothing but hang. I am in a size 12 pants and x-lg top. I choose now, to not loose more weight. Don't get me wrong, I still believe in the band and I encourage everyone I talk to and tell them not to use me as an example. Am I the only person who feels I should not have to pay to have it removed? It never worked, and the pain is always there when I eat. Am I the only one who has this experience?

They are hard to read! I remember during grad school thinking who the hell do they write these papers/journals/articles for? Them selves 🤣 You’re right so much is still unknown but A team of researcher actually looked at this and found that the division of the stomach causes ghrelin levels to drop (tested during surgery). What I’m still trying to find information on is what changes occur after revision surgery from VSG to RNY.

Hello. Sorry about the TMI, but maybe someone here knows an answer. I am usually constipated.. It's normal for me.. BUT the last week has been completely different. Every time I eat I get the urge to go to the bathroom. I get this urgency, I start sweating and even nauseous. I had my gastric sleeve revision from lapband in December and this is new.. Anyone experience this?

Nope. There was one tonight too and a newbie named Cindy asked me about them and I was telling her that they provide aftercare. How if u have any sleeve-related issues or revisions and come back they'll fix it and gave their Facebook page link.
