    December 2018 Sleevers!

I'm 1 week out. Been getting a lot of rest. When I drink the gas seems to have lessened. I was able to get through a yogurt this morning without having to put it back due to gas pains. Still have another week until pureed. I did try some crab meat last night and it didn't cause any gas or discomfort. I go to dietiation on Tuesday gonna ask if I can move forward earlier. Start vitamins tomorrow.

100 lbs in under a year?

I don't count calories or anything. BUT, I eat the exact same food every day because I am on bland puree for 10 weeks (possibly longer... we will see). It's just easier to eat the same thing. I know that what I am eating equates to roughly 400 calories a day. Everything is low-fat and low-carb. I have a yogurt for breakfast, a hardboiled egg as a snack, 2oz of meat for lunch, and a soy shake. Sometimes a tablespoon of cream cheese. That's every day. lol. Dietitian and surgeon are good with that given the ulcer. Again, they are happy with my progress and everything... it's just me being scared it's "not going to work" or I will "never" reach my goal. I'm just getting started with exercise... just officially got totally cleared today.
  4. Hello , Im new here . Been using Baritastic app for a while . I'm post op gastric sleeve ; done on 10/9/18 ; I try to eat home baked fries , or green bean and tomato salad , triple zero yogurt , scrambled egg , chicken tenders . Not all at once , but those are some things I eat . Problem is ? They sometimes stay down ? Other times they don't . I have trouble feeling full sometimes even now . I chew 20 times , even eat with left hand to slow down my eating . How do you guys know how much you can tolerate portion size wise ? Thank You [emoji16] Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. This is the yoghurt I get. 100gms with a little SF syrup and it is SO nom! https://glenisk.com/products/natural-0-fat-greek-protein-yogurt Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. Do you eat yoghurt? My hubs does keto (he's not a bariatric patient tho) and I'm thinking of moving more that way but I love me some 0% fat yogurt for breakfast. I dunno if i can give up my lovely yoghurt. Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. Realistically, it seems like the long-term WLS diet IS essentially keto. With the exception of the addition of some dairy that is not allowed in keto diets (like milks and yogurts and certain fruit). I wonder if I am in ketosis currently given that I've only been eating proteins primarily. Those OTC ketone sticks... I have no idea how accurate they really are.

    3 weeks Post Op

I am three weeks post op and have lost 30 pounds in the last 4 weeks!! I am on pureed foods, refried beans, yogurt, cottage cheese, soups. I am NEVER hungry so it is hard to remember to eat, because I just don't have the urge to eat. I don't feel hungry. Anyone else feel like this?

    RP strength Diet template

@Healthy_life - I've been messing around with this for about 6-8 months. I Olympic lift to support my fencing (headed to a national competition tomorrow). I found a sports RD who has worked with WLS patients. The key for me as not been so much the protein but increasing the carbs. I generally average in my diet about 110g protein a day. I have been trying to get 115g carbs in as well. I eat about 1500 calories a day. My training schedule looks like this M: fencing 2.5 hours T: Crossfit/Olympic Lifting 1 hour W: repeat Monday Thursday - Repeat Tuesday Friday - Reformer based Pilates 1 hour Saturday - repeat Tuesday Sunday - if not competing for 3-4 hours, agility, arms, core and lifting When I fence, I burn about 1100 calories, but my resting metabolic rate is really slow. (As in 1100 to maintain weight if I do not exercise). My average day foodwise - looks like this: B- Protein shake with handful of frozen fruit made with Fairlife Skim Milk 37g P 15g carbs Snack - Skyr Icelandic Provisions yogurt with 2-3 tablespoons of granola 15 g P 10g carbs Lunch - Pesto chicken salad (4 ounces chicken plus 1 tablespoon pesto) 20gP Slice of Rye bread 15g Carbs Snack - Kind bar with protein - 12gP 22g Carbs Dinner - Protein 4-5 ounces, 1/2 a baked potato or rice, salad Snack - Popcorn sometimes or some other light carb to finish my carbs I have to work at it. Yes, its' a lot of food. Often, if I get lazy, I throw a scoop of Ucann Superstarch into my shakes - that's good for 20g carbs. Often I'll add a shake during the day. I try to have a snack within 30 minutes of completing a workout that contains protein and carbs - often a Kind bar with protein or other energy bar that is higher than carbs. The issue for me as been increasing muscle and killing the fat. Your body needs the carbs. I suggest you try to find a sports RD in your area to work with. It was the best money I've spent other than my personal trainers/coaches.

    No change after multiple fills?

What is restriction? Or what is it that people believe restriction to be? Restriction with a band should be about eating smaller portions of healthy food and feeling satisfied afterwards . This can be a hard concept to understand. It is not about feeling full like preband. It is not about the band stopping you eating unhealthy fattening foods because conversely the more fills you have and the tighter your band gets the easier it becomes to choose those unhealthy , non satisfying foods(sliders). When I got banded back in 2009 everyone used to talk about the sweet spot. That magical point where you would be eating tiny portions of healthy food , losing weight and never be hungry. Well that is like unicorns, it's nice to dream about but it doesn't exist. Unfortunately the reality with the band is not the same as the marketing. I was told that I wouldn't be hungry, may only want 2 meals a day, would get sick if I ate too much etc. Well I have never only wanted 2 meals a day and would still wake up hungry . As for the throwing up if you eat too much it's more likely to be throwing up if you eat 1 bite of something that today your band decides it doesnt like that it was quite happy with yesterday. BUT ITS NOT ALL NEGATIVE. I lost all my excess weight plus more within 6 months of getting my band with very little really effort on my part. I didn't focus on protein first as in Aus that wasn't a thing. I just tried to eat small portions of healthy foods. Poached egg on toast was a good breakfast option although most days I could only manage half a slice. My go to food when I wanted something quick and easy was untoasted muesli with greek yogurt - that was a great substitute for lunch or dinner. So don't go chasing rainbows. Work with your band and don't have it too tight. Realise that the sensations that you get now are your new normal and that the fullness or lack of hunger may be different to what you are expecting them to be. And don't forget weight loss isn't a race. Slow and steady loss is fine.
  12. Wish I could help. If it was me, I'd get off the protein drinks ASAP to see if it resolves slightly? I think they can be really hard on your body if you have kidney/liver issues at all. I'd honestly take it back to about 80g per day. Here's the math I used and the chart per Dr. Google: Let's say you're a medium frame: at 6'2" your "ideal" dream dude weight is in a range of 164-178lbs. Most will never see it. It's a range made by archaic insurance charts. But nevertheless, it's considered your "dew weight". In kg it is 75-81kg. And the protein prescription for most "normal build men" in normal condition and normal age and activity is anywhere from 0.8g/kg of weight to somewhere around 1.2g/kg of weight, averaging out around 1g/kg of "ideal weight." That is often also expressed in LBM but since we don't know your's, let's just do the math using your theoretical "ideal" weight. So by this measurement, I'd say that 81g of protein per day is "about" what you could get away with eating right now, until you can get the gout cleared up. Here's a link for low purine foods: https://www.healthxchange.sg/food-nutrition/food-tips/gout-diet-uric-acid-check https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/gout-diet/art-20048524 https://www.healthline.com/health/tips-for-following-low-purine-diet A theoretical menu would be something like: B- Eggs + low fat Greek yogurt with 1oz of walnuts and maybe a couple of cherries, or blueberries, or a few segments of tangerine. L- Avocado with 2-3oz of chicken breast (rotisserie) or with a cooked veg like zucchini or well-cooked broccoli AS-1-2 HB Egg + 1/2oz of pecans D- Pacific Sockeye Salmon (2-3oz) with steamed green beans and a spritz of olive oil BS-1-2 mozzarella cheese sticks or 1/2c of 2% cottage cheese + a strawberry or a couple of blueberries. I didn't put all that in MFP to see how much protein is involved, it still might be high. I'd plug your protein in at each meal and see what you have. Then you know what to add for your snacks. Then fill in with any room you have remaining with other stuff--veggies and fruits and some nuts if you tolerate them right now. Congrats on the losses! Hope you feel better soon!

    December 2018 Sleevers!

My surgery was 12/6. So far not to bad. Pain is tolerable haven't taken any pain medicine... the first 2 days were clear liquid only. I am now on full liquid for the next 12 days. This started today tried some greek yogurt and a slim fast it was okay. Will try again tomorrow. I can see this is going to be a long 2 weeks. Already want to be on pureed.

I do take a probiotic as well. I'll give the yogurt a shot. I'm just looking for some relief lol.

    Bowel Movements

If you're not taking probiotics, you should add a probiotic yogurt to your food intake. Maybe replace a protein shake with some activia. That's what I was told to do.
  16. They are all vile, LOL. I kept buying new ones in a desperate attempt to find a good one, but after surgery I can’t shake the artificial sweetener taste. Premier with coffee or thinned with Fairlife is tolerable, as are the Atkins. Sometimes I make one with Greek yogurt, fruit and Fairlife, but that has higher calories and less protein per ounce, so most days I just choke down the chemical shakes, I only have to have one a day now.

Gastric Bypass - Week 2 Post Op

Panera sells soup in little containers at walmart in the deli section. I got their potato soup and heated a bit up (1/8 cup) then mixed in 1/8 cup plain Greek yogurt. There was only 1 chunk, a potato cube that was easily smashed by a spoon. So good. Baby food was vile. Turkey or chicken breast cuisinarted with green beans. 1/4 cup of plain Greek yogurt topped with a splash of hit sauce and a sprinkle of cumin makes me think I've had a plate of enchiladas oddly enough. Be careful with spice though because some people can't handle it early on. I didn't realize I should be careful with it but luckily I was ok and it only is a little dash. I have always loved cottage cheese so that's my go to. At first I was being really careful of carbs but I wasnt losing and when i added in some carbs (like in the potato soup) (ass well as also getting of antibiotics) i started losing again. I'm still on puree.

What was everyone's first puree ?

I ate a lot of black bean soup and lentil soup then. Also Greek yogurt. I can’t and won’t blend any meats or eat meats from cans it just grossed me out. Eggs tasted great but even at 4months post op go down quite heavy.

    October 2018 Sleevers

You look great! Wish I had such a good before shot. I knew it at the time, too, but the idea of getting in front of that camera in all my glory held me back, LOL. My bariatric program warns us off all pre-made food, anything you don't prepare yourself. Surprised to see quite a few people on here doing them, but I'm clueless--maybe they're super healthy. Of course, I'm living in boring, repetitive food world. Lots of yogurt and cottage cheese, chicken and reduced fat cheese. They're not even letting me eat beef yet, though I know I'll get cleared for that phase on Monday at my nutrition appointment. And there may have been a cookie incident last night I'm considering posting about, so there's that. Anyway, don't let the stall demotivate you!! It will happen to us all at some point. One of the best things about a group like this. :) Thank you! And thank you for sharing your cookie incident, I do think I need to prepare my own food and keep it simple as your team recommends. The other is what got me overweight and it’s just too easy to slip back. There are healthy premade options but it’s a slippery slope for me because then I want Chipotle and then I want take-out. I’ve also started working back with my personal trainer 3 days a week so that could be part of this stall too. I think that is making me hungrier too.
  20. Not much different between 12 to 13 months except for no reason at all I started dropping weight again instead of maintaining. Currently 153lbs. Anemia is ever present, knew I would be so I will resume IV treatments for that. Missing the summer, need a vacation from the cold. I'm always cold. Food choices are pretty constant, I'm boring and don't really need a lot of variation just rotation of my usual suspects. No clue what clothing size I really wear but it's between a small and medium, 6-8 totally depends on cut and designer. Dumping and food comas still occurs for me, random things like nut, meat, yogurt (lol, whatever) very mild reflux depending on food choice like yogurt, (lol whatever again) not taking anything for it because PPIs are more trouble than they are worth. If necessary I will get papaya enzyme and work with that. BUT overall still a good choice

Eating at a bar... a new experience.

I am really hoping the ulcer will be cleared by my next appointment, January 7th. I'll give it another month from there before I test my luck on even mild stuff. I am getting a little tired of being on bland, unseasoned puree. My life is greek yogurt, broths, and cottage cheese. But... if I can conquer 10 weeks of puree, I can do anything. hahaha.

    Bariatric Pal Store??? Non-whey options.

Thank you. I'm not vegetarian or vegan, I just get sick from whey proteins specifically. I can have milk/yogurt/etc totally fine... but when it's a whey shake... super nauseous. I use soy protein shakes. I've found a few things off the bariatricpal site that I've ordered, like the lentil curry and the sloppy joe mix. I did order the oatmeal, which I believe is whey, but sometime it's hit or miss so I'm going to give it a shot!
  24. Yes I'm talking about the ready to drink shakes because convenience helps me be more successful. I've tried many different drinks and have settled on 4 different ones (plus different flavors of each). Screenshot attached. The first one is a more traditional milk based shake and the other three are more yogurt/juice types. For some reason I'm doing better at drinking these better than eating the spoon-yogurt version but those last three seem to be so high in carbs/sugar which makes me question whether it's ok to have that much of it helps me get to my protein goal. I have a call into my nutritionist to ask her but thought I'd post or here as well.

Gastric Bypass - Week 2 Post Op

Had RNY 11/13. My first meal was mashed taters. My go to after that was chilli with black beans added in just chew real good. Vanilla Greek yogurt with some chocolate protein powder as well. Now one hard boiled egg and I’m full. The food tastes way better then the liquid phase but don’t eat too fast. My first throw up was tonight after getting the foamies when I ate a egg and meat pie that was 1/8” thick - just ate way too fast.
