  1. I had my Upper GI yesterday. Boy oh boy do I wish I had done the endoscopy instead! The liquid chalk wasn't too bad going down and the xrays only took about five minutes. It's the chalk coming back out that's the problem. I had a belly ache all yesterday. I drank lots of water as suggested but that chalk sat in my gut like a painful bowling ball. Today it's been nothing but gas and going to the bathroom. I am so glad I am on summer vacation from work because my co-workers wouldn't be enjoying my constant gas and going to the bathroom. I aide an autistic child on a school bus and there's certainly no bathroom on a bus. Sorry if this is TMI. Lisa
  2. Hey everyone, So I finally did something about the horrible reflux I've endured the past 4 mths. I saw my GP this past Monday and he advised me to talk to my surgeon about possibly being too tight. I emailed the nurse and she responded promptly. Told me it sounds like a possible slip and that I needed to come in and be seen asap. I can keep almost everything down (didn't keep last nites pineapple chunks down tho - they aren't band-friendly I guess) and the only thing I have to complain about is the severe reflux I've had for almost 4 mths. I have to sleep almost sitting up on 3 pillows. Everytime Itry to roll over and get comfortable, I wake up with my pillow filled with stomach acid (sorry if tmi) and in a lot of pain. I take a handful of meds everyday (1 RX Nexium - actually my husbands prescription - 3 RX Prilosec, and 5 OTC Zantacs + Rolaids like I own stock in the company). And this past couple of weeks, I have heartburn during the day too. I thought I might be a little too tight, but have been unwilling to be seen, for fear I will be unfilled and gain my 100 lbs back. So the nurse told me they'd do an xray and if it's slipped, they'll totally unfill for 6 weeks then start the filling again. I hope to God that it's just a little tight and they just take out a little. When he filled it in Jan, the PA told me that I was at my max fill (10cc in a 14cc band) because the plunger came out by itself when he injected the Fluid. He only put .5cc. And I'm stuck at 148 now - gained 2 lbs since my last fill. Still have about 13 lbs till goal. Anyway, I'll letcha all know what happens on Monday. I have to drive 3 hrs each way to get to the doc (another reason I haven't been really excited about going). I sure hope they just take out a little fluid and all will be right with my band again. And maybe I can actually get a full nites sleep without the taste of acid in my mouth and my throat burning and feeling like I swallowed a whole peach. Marci

    Vaginal Itching And Lapband

Sorry if this is TMI but I have been having a constant vaginal itch without odor or discharge. The docs are clueless and have been giving me creams just to pacify me but they are not working.I am negative for yeast infections, bacterial infections, as well as STD's. I have seen 3 different ob/gyns. I was banded in December 22, 2011, about 3 months ago. I started this itch in February of this year. I also started birth control the end of January. I was on the same birth control for 2 years prior to the band and they made me stop it just before my surgery but I got back on it 4 weeks later. I am wondering if this is a side effect of the lapband or my birth control or could it simply be from the weight loss and different diet that my body is just going through changes. I am desperate to get rid of this. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I dont know what else to do. Crystal

    September Sleevers

Oh and I forgot as a big bonus today, I just had a bowel movement! LMAO. I NEVER THOUGHT ID BE SO HAPPY TO SEE ONE COME! Sorry, TMI, but all gastric surgery patients will approve this message!
  5. Good Morning; I was banded 7/1 and have been following my Dr's eating plan. This has resulted in constipation with no movement for 3 days at least. I tried prune juice, xlax tabs and chocholate. No help. I finally tried Miralax. This is a powder when mixed has no taste. I mix mine with Chystal Lite and I don't even know its there. I don't want to do TMI, but it works just fine. When I was only a few days old with the band I didn't want to strain, but I also didn't want to get bound up. This may be "Old News", but I wanted to pass this along. Regards Hal

    !

Yes it will be a bad one. I have pcos and hadn't had a period in almost 2 years. I spotted the day after my surgery. 4/16 Nothing major. Three days ago, it started with a vengeance. It's like the Texas chainsaw massacre is going on in there. Tmi I know. Worst period I've had in my life and its not let up any yet. Surgeon said estrogen would slam me after I lost so much and restart them. I'm down 60 pounds and he was right. I didn't miss this at all bit glad my body is trying to get back to normal.
  7. I had surgery on Tuesday June 2nd I am having more pain today than I have since the first day after surgery. I haven't been taking pain pills because I can't sleep and they make me itch. I can handle the pain I just want to make sure it's nothing serious. I have been walking a lot. I still feel bloated and haven't had a BM since before surgery. (Sorry TMI, I know). Anybody else have these issues?
  8. I talked to the nutritionist and the dr. I have followed all instructions since pre-op to a a T. I have never even liked rice before this, I know they told us we can get some rice crackers at some level (in my head they are the Chinese kind--not sure cuz I wasn't planning on getting). I think because there was nothing I felt like eating, they said 2 T or so, not a problem. Well, that's probably more than I had. Today I threw away 1/2 eaten containers of yogurt, cottage cheese, almost a whole container of avocado, some Ricotta Bake (read about recipe---people love this), green Beans ---those gag me now. Out of the 4 weeks I have spent almost 2 weeks (I know, TMI---but had the big D, whispering Diarrhea). I haven't been sick in almost 25 years, and this has taken it's toll on me. I was hoping the little bit of rice would stop losing weight cuz of the carbs, but nope lost another pound. I was so dehydrated I thought about going to dr. or urgent care, but finally no fever today. I didn't eat processed foods before surgery, and find anything like Pedialyte or Powerade Zero, sugar free Jello, can't do those popsicles at all, so chemically tasting. I always made my own food, was pretty LCHF and lately all Proteins seem unbearable. I tried making egg salad, chicken salad, all pureed....damn what a struggle. I figure maybe after this dehydration things totally passes, I will be able to eat again. I love fish, made some last night, nope, my hub had to eat it. Not even rotisserie chicken, which we can eat the dark. Who'd have thunk it???? Struggle to find food to eat. I used to love green beans from the Chinese restaurant, I mean love love love, I almost threw up trying to eat 2 pieces last night. This is just so crazy.
  9. Well I just had a tiny bowl of coco puffs because well I'm on my rag and I need chocolate and I notice within 5 minutes I'm on the toilet. Is this dumping syndrome? I have noticed some foods I eat this happens so I'm thinking hellooooo this is that dumping syndrome. Anybody else experience this? Am I just the lucky one? God this happens and man I never want to eat again!

    Anxious! Please Help!

Not to bad. But I've also had natural childbirth, and gallstones. So this surgery was a piece of cake. But, I felt sore, bloated and I had some nausea. My doc gave me meds for the nausea and meds so I won't barf. I also got some for the pain. Chat to them about that- and see what they'll do for you. I was really gassy. Getting up to walk really helped a lot. Gas X strips are still my saving grace. Love "em! Going #2 was an "issue" (and still sometimes is) a few weeks down the line ( sorry for the TMI). So chat to them about stool softeners because you don't want to strain. You'll do great! This is just a small moment on a life changing event. There are moments where you'll feel every emotion out there. But surround yourself with people you love and who love you back. And you'll do great. I'll be crossing my fingers and toes, praying and doing a dance for you! Hang in there girl for the ride of your life!

pain in the mid to right back

Sorry if this is TMI but for me it was being constipated. Others will have different answers based on their experiences. As always if you have a question/concern you should call your doctor.
  12. Until my 3rd fill this past Wed, I had no idea what sliming was - and then it happened to me on Fri nite and tonite also. It was like vomiting mucous (sorry if that's tmi). Where exactly does the slime come from? Thinking back to my anatomy and physioloy classes many yrs ago, I can;t think of a scientific reason for so much to come up. Just curious! Marci
  13. TMI ALERT!! (Consider yourself warned) So I started the pre-op diet yesterday of full liquids and I think my intestines are in shock, I have had nothing but diarrhea. Seriously, I'm afraid to leave my house and I'm going to need more toilet paper if its going to be two more weeks of this. Imodium would be ok but not for two weeks. Did this happen to anyone else?

    Banded July 15th!!

I was banded on 7/19. Doing really well with everything! 1st day, it was the shoulder pain!!! Ouch! Yes - hurt WAY more than the incisions! Much better now, though. I have walked a bunch every day. Today I am just on advil, and I didn't even take a nap. Went shopping @ Sam's with my mom (she did the heavy lifting!). Feeling so optimistic. My incisions look great except for the one in my belly button. It just gives me the willy's to look at it, but I think it's fine. I think I can feel where my port it - a little more swollen there - used some ice on it today and that felt good. I also had a hernia repair. I was told I didn't have one when I had my EDG done, but I guess they did see a small one when they were actually in there, so my surgeon fixed it. I'm glad because I was having reflux at night so I am hoping that will be gone now! I'm on pureed foods. Tonight I pureed about a 2 x 2 piece of lasgna with some tomato soup. It was like heaven after all these protein shakes! I can't say that I'm really eating cuz I'm hungry - just to keep my strength up and to hopfully go potty soon (TMI). Everything is going down fine - I pureed some tuna fish and lt. mayo with pickle juice - about 3 bites was enough of that, but it did taste pretty good. As long as it is no thicker than pudding and smooth, I can eat it. 2 weeks of this then on to mushies for 2 weeks, then normal. Good luck to all the newbies on this thread!

    I NEED HELP SUGGESTIONS PLEASE

@@georgia72886 sorry about your old habits sneaking back!!! don't know how much weight you successfully lost you were loosing ok? but then stalled for quite a wihile?? gave in to old eating habits because you got frustrated?? doesn't really matter the why i guess glad you know you want and need to get back on track people that are in your similar boat (don't worry you won't sink) frequently will do 3 Protein shakes a day (like the good ol' days ) this will give you a good jump start, make you feel better to get on program its been awhile, do you remember all the basic rules?? Kathys' Refresher Course 101!!!! sttop drinking 15-30 minutes before you eat never drink with your meals (people have been shot for less ) must drink at least 64 oz of Water after you eat wait 45-60 minutes before you drink always take smallll bites moderation eat with small utensils, take a bite of food put fork down eat slllllowly chew food well before you take another bite always eat protein first (ie dense protein like chicken is great cuz it makes you fuller faster) watch your carbs - SUPPOSED to be only around 40 (that can be a challange) 60 gr of protein is important try and exercise - even walking is better that sitting on your tush i can't relate to raising a youngun while you are trying to eat properly it must be very hard that being said - whatever good food you are required/need to eat - that would be great for him to eat too he is still very young - so stand firm , even if he's screaming - try not to give him or you junk we all know the rate of obesity for kids going up and up - making fat adults not pretty working 12 hr shiftsgood must be stressful and hard!!! luv my yogurt, mix in some fresh blueberries with granaola spinkled on top I JUST told my neighbor yesterday the yogurt tastes so good - almost like having an orgasm TMI? eating junk food??? (believe in yourself) now you go girl - show us what you are made of!!! good luck kathy
  16. Is there pain /complications? Or is it as simple as you realize you are eating too much and not losing? I was banded 3-6. My first night of blended foods didn't go well. Terrible stomach cramps and guessing I ate too much. Didn't throw up but let's just say I was in the bathroom the entire night. (Sorry for the TMI) Since then I've had zero trouble... except I'm starving all the time and feel like I can eat way more than 1.5 cups. Have also caught myself eating too fast. I slowed down but then wondered why I didn't have a problem while eating that way. Now it's 1:30am and I can't sleep stressing that I did something wrong that first night. Amy input would be appreciated. Thanks!

OK...this is TMI...but I can tell you Jtori that there is no need to feel embarrased...nurses and docs have seen it all and it is part of "nature". That being said, I was thinking it sounded like PCOS which I have / had? I even asked a doc the other day...I had a hysterectomy last June and have no parts left...since I do not have ovaries do I still have polysistic ovarian syndrome???She said, "Good question"...anyway, I feel your pain...I bled 20 to 24 days a month for 1 year! then I had an ablation and it reduced it to @10 days! NOw, it is heaven...by the way...I'm still anemic...and it has almost been a year??? But I am finally losing weight....Good Luck! Hang tough!
  18. Congrats! Yours is truly a success story! Funny you should mention the metallic taste in my mouth, I've had this too (6.5 weeks post-op), I thought it was just me. Have a nasty coat on my tongue that I scrape off everyday (TMI!). Good luck and God bless. P.S. You are so cute, your hubby is a lucky man.
  19. Sorry for the tmi... I was fine, great even! Tuesday I moved on to pureed, that day I had an egg(with miracle whip) . I was fine. Yesterday I had a cupcake sized portion of ricotta bake and under 1/2 cup potatoes (not together) today the only food I had was an egg (made as before). I woke up today with a stomach ache and the poops. I walked around a bunch, sipped my protein had some water I felt much better. Lunch time I had that egg and I have wanted to die ever since. I'm literally peeing out the @ss Should I be concerned? Or when should I be concerned ? I expect loose stools, but this isn't that. This is literally liquid. I'm really sorry. But, any ideas? Lucky for me 2 of my kids are graduating tomorrow . I will never forgive.myself if I miss it. But I won't be going more than 3 feet from the bathroom like thia. 20. Well....I finally started going #2 about 3 days post-op. It is very strange looking...sort of like tea leaves or something very loose I have never experienced (sorry about the TMI). It is definitely not normal looking. I am going to get some Gas-x tonight.

    Newbie Here - Hello!

Everyone is different in their recovery. For me, I was up walking the halls about 1 hour after surgery, not very far, but up and moving. I walked consistent for the first 24 hours. In fact I had the nurse get me up every 2 hours to walk. I think that helped me get rid of the pain from the gas associated with the surgery. That was, by far for me the worst pain. I went home after 2 days to stay with a family member for one night then on my own after that. In fact I drove to my home on a Friday and had my surgery on that Tuesday. I took no pain meds except for the dose they administered right after surgery. I went back to work the following Monday. It does take a lot of time though with food and lliquid consumption. Don't rush things. Focus on Water, Vitamins, then Protein when you are able to start taking in liquids. My best advise is to walk, walk, walk! As often as you can and as much as you can. It help. Also make sure you do the breathing exercises to keep your lungs clear. It is really important. Just listen to what your body is telling you and do what you are able to do. I had a really easy recover except for a battle with constipation (sorry TMI) You will do great!
  22. I was banded Friday January 18 and so far, so good. I've been talking short walks, sticking to the liquids diet, and taking small sips/bites. I'm glad I've made this choice, but healing has been harder than I was expecting. I'm not sure if what I am feeling is gas pain or something else. Its this tight, squeezing feeling inside. Sometimes it happens after eating or drinking, and sometimes it happens for no apparent reason. It's quite uncomfortable but lasts only a few seconds. Maybe these are hunger pains in my new sore stomach? Other than these pains, I haven't had a bowel movement since before surgery. I feel like I maybe could but it hurts to push! Lol sorry if that's TMI
  23. I was sleeved in February and since then I've had a few periods but they were normal/light. I got my period 2 days ago and I've never imagined it could be like this. I'm bleeding non stop and I don't know what to do about it. I went through 4 pads and 2 tampons while at work yesterday. It's insane. I'm not on any type of birth control but maybe I should be so I can get this regulated. I was bleeding so much this morning that there was no way I could go to work today. Has anyone experienced this before? I called my surgeon's office but the nurse said that while it may be normal due to the hormone changes, I need to talk to my obgyn. Unfortunately, I don't have one yet, as I'm relatively new to the area. I guess I will call around and find one today. I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced this, especially since it has been 4.5 months since my surgery.

    Caffeine anyone???

Coke (any soda) is a HUGE source of weight gain and retension. Not to mention other bad things it does to your body. The biggest thing about soda is it helps to retain water especially coke. Now I am no doctor just going on what doctors have told me in the past. I started Hot tea day of surgery on my way home from the hospital. i waited 2 days to start regular coffee in moderation and made sure i got enough other liquids so that TMI i know my urine was clear. In the end Coffee should not hurt you if taken in moderation and you make sure to stay hydrated. Obviously you should steer clear of milk or cream unless its fat free and use a sweetner like agave or equal etc... Like i said im not a doctor just offering my honest humble opinion.

    I'm new.

I've been doing good. I've lost 17 lbs so far and still shrinking. I still hurt a little but it's just a slight nagging pain in my left side. TMI...I had a lot of bathroom problems but finally figured that out. Don't wait 3-4 days to take something (lowest dose of Milk of Magnesia worked for me)and stool softeners don't help at first but I continue to take them.
