I have not had the mirena but for the past 3yrs I have had the nexiplon or implenon. It is a stick placed in the arm. I know its not in as long as the iud but this had less complications and no need to worry about a dislodged iud or tubal pregnancies. Or frequently checking it yourself. I love it and since my sleeve I haven't seen any weight gain effects.

Calling all those who were banded on June 17th....
TX Diva replied to Startingover!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded June 17th and am doing very well. I had way less pain than I had anticipated and never had that evil gas pain. I was able to sleep in my bed on my right side or back from day one! I have been following my doctor's diet to a T and am not feeling deprived or hungry. The Protein drink I have been using is AmazeRX because that's my surgeon's drink, and I really like it. I have no idea how much weight I have lost because I had my husband hide the scales. I go for my 2 week follow-up on July 1st and I'll find out then using the exact same scales I was on for my last pre-op weigh in. Plus, I didn't want to get disappointed when I got on the scales while I was still swollen and see a possible weight gain. This past week I was able to sit through a 7 hour 5-day math workshop without feeling pain. I also started riding my recumbent bike again and got up to 20 minutes a session. That has really pumped up my energy and feeling like I'm "normal" again! -
VSG & autoimmune diseases?
gingeryank replied to gingeryank's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@shrinkingkimber I had to hold my Cimzia injections 3 weeks before and 3 weeks after. My surgeon wasn't happy either because of the higher risk involved. But everything turned out fine. Btw, I'm going to Remicade next if I fail Cimzia. I've already failed Humira. A lot of my weight gain also came from steroids. Good luck on your surgery! The EVIL 3 WEEK STALL
Malaika replied to shanda7182's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Shanda - I think the weight gain is probably water retention and one you start I am sure it will go away and so will the pounds. Don't weigh everyday - that might help, too -- and the measurement thing is a GREAT idea. Keep your positive attitude - you will get through this and start losing lbs. again. -
When will bariatric care catch up with the science?
BLERDgirl replied to Trillium's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think it will take normalizing the surgical process to do that. I didn't have anything remotely like what the OP has in her procure. Both at the seminar and during my meetings with nutritionist & psychologist they talked about emotional eating. Part of what they share in the support groups almost always deals with the external factors that play into weight gain. -
My daughter has alopecia totalis, started when she was about 12. We tried the topical creams and treatments, but I drew the line at systemic steroids and we focused on getting her the best scalp prosthesis we could. She did incredibly well once she moved to a vacuum wig and a couple of years ago her hair started growing back. She ditched the wig about a month ago (she's 19 now) and is growing in a full head of hair with only one thin spot. Now she's been diagnosed with an auto-immune arthritis, so we're heading down the rabbit hole on that one now. Hugs for going through it, it's terribly traumatic. I hope her arthritis isn't too bad. So happy her hair grew back. Mine has been gone for 24 years. I tried an experimental drug last year. I did get some regrowth but also gained the weight. I stopped taking it because of the weight gain. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

VSG & autoimmune diseases?
gingeryank replied to gingeryank's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@littlered12973 I've been on sick leave since January--also to focus on aggressive treatments, some of which caused a considerable amount of my weight gain. I'm so glad your blood pressure and sleep apnea have normalized! That's quick if your surgery was only on Mar 29. My BP has normalized, too, and my surgery was on Feb 25. I can tell you, being 6 weeks out, that the weight loss has had a significant impact on my chronic pain. WLS has been the best AS "treatment" I've had thus far. I hope the same is true for you and your condition. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
VSG & autoimmune diseases?
gingeryank replied to gingeryank's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have such a love/hate (mostly hate) relationship with prednisone. At times, taking it was the only way I could function during a flare. But the weight gain was horrible. I hope I can encourage you. I'm down 40 lbs at 6 weeks post op. My mobility has greatly improved. I'm walking an hour four times a week. I've yet to determine if the flares will be fewer, but I didn't have a working treatment plan for my Ankylosing Spondylitis prior to surgery. First I tried Humira. Now Cimzia. My rheumy is talking Remicade. I'm currently on sick leave. When I'm not, I have to go into the office 10 hrs/wk. I mostly work from home because of my immune system and chronic fatigue. Best of luck to you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
It's not unusual to experience a weight gain. Unfortunately for most of us weight loss is not a linear process. There will be stalls, slow periods and even gains As long as you are meeting Protein and Fluid goals, stay the course. The weight loss will happen.

I was banded 13 months ago. I have had no weight gain at all in those 13 months. I do have months when it is slower but not weight gain. I absolutley hate not being able to get food down and I am going to get a small unfill. I know how to eat or I would have gained. My after care has not been the best.

What hoops did you have to jump through before surgery?
claddagh66 replied to careya123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
6 months of physician visits and with the NUT, weigh ins each time,(no weight gain), EKG, Stress Test, Complete Lab Panel, complete Gynecologist exam within a year, (r/o any possible CA) EGD, Sleep Study, (documented sleep apnea) PCP Clearance. Sheesh...I believe that's it. I still need to do my Stress Test. I'm almost at 4mo. I'm expecting an April/May date. Hope this helps. Also this is what my doctor wants. Not what my insurance wants! -
Exercising...but Gaining??
Jachut replied to MississippiGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you start exercising, you can retain a bit of Water in your muscles which can account for weight gain. Muscle doesnt weigh more than fat, its just that a pound of muscle takes up less space than a pound of fat. People say it flippantly and its misleading, what it simply means is that if you have more muscle you'll weigh more. But its fantasy to think anyone can gain few pounds of muscle from doing a couple of weeks of cardio - most women wont gain that much after a year of weight training. The real truth is that when people first start exercising, its hard work, takes lots of effort and dedication but its not really that intense in terms of what exercise can be for someone who is fit and athletic and a seasoned exerciser. It is possible to burn 1000 calories in an hour running, but you sure as eggs cant do that when you start. A couple of hundred calories a day is not that huge an amount of calories to be burning, its not going to make THAT much difference. Also there's the tiredness you feel as a result of your efforts until you're more conditioned, you kind of slow down for the rest of the day and burn less calories overall which kind of nets out the exercise. Not to worry, if you keep at it, you get fitter and you will get to the stage where you can say go out for a run, come home and continue with your day without even feeling tired. You'll get there. You really have to watch what you eat too, its not uncommon to eat more as a result of exercising - it may make you hungrier or you may subconsciously think you can afford to because you've exercised. Weight loss still comes down mainly to diet. All those are factors why exercise may not give you the weight loss result you may expect - at first. Keep at it and it will pay off and at first cardio everyday is GREAT, its the best fat burner and that's what you want for the present time, to get rid of fat. Dont be discouraged by gain, it wont go far and it will reverse quickly. -
Exercising...but Gaining??
MississippiGirl replied to MississippiGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the information so far! I did a little research on the Internet and the following is an excerpt from Chalene Johnson's Blog Spot The temporary weight gain explained: When someone starts a new exercise program, they often experience muscle soreness. The more intense and "unfamiliar" the program, the more intense the muscle soreness. This soreness is most prevalent 24 to 48 hours after each workout. In the first few weeks of a new program, soreness is the body trying to "protect and defend" the effected or targeted tissue. Exercise physiologists refer to this as delayed-onset muscle soreness, or DOMS. This type of soreness is thought to be caused by tissue breakdown or microscopic tears in muscle tissue. When this happens the body protects the tissue. The muscle becomes inflamed and slightly swollen with Fluid retention. This temporary retention of fluid can result in a 3- to 4-pound weight gain within a few weeks of a new program. Keep in mind that muscle soreness is not necessarily a reflection of how hard you worked. In fact, some people feel no signs of muscle soreness, yet will experience the muscle protection mechanisms of Water retention and slight swelling. -
What do you consider a (melodramatic) Emergency these days? Late to work? 2lb weight gain? Bad date? Spilled coffee? Sour yogurt? Budget due? Teens? How do you combat it? How do you process your emotions now instead of letting them eat away at you? Or you eating them into submission? What tools & (let's be honest) foods are on your emergency bag to keep you from going into shock?

Well, had my first fill since my surgery on May 2. Happy to say I'm down 18 pounds. The past 10 days I noticed that I was feeling more hungry and able to eat more, so I'm happy that I didn't have a weight gain. As for the fill, it wasn't as bad as I thought. The PA found my port quickly and before I knew it the needle was in. What I was more worried about was standing up, with the needle in, so I could drink some water. I wasn't too sure what I would feel at first, but then it felt like a lump at the back of my throat. I told her when that feeling went away(which was fast) and she added more saline. We did it again, but it was too tight so she took some out. I have 5.4 cc's in a 10 cc band. Now just have to do the full liquids for 24hours then, mushies for 24 hours, then back to regular food. Next fill, July 26!

Some fat free products have a lot of sugar to make up in taste. I'd be more concerned about sugar free vs fat free. It's sugar that leads to insulin resistance, which leads to weight gain. Aren't you able to eat real food yet? Why still on Protein Shakes?

Birth Control that hasnt made you gain?
Ms.AntiBand replied to ShyV.'s topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
abstinence? I had IUD's for years and they were never a reason for my weight gain -
TSH is to measure your thyroid hormone levels. A high TSH means you are hypothyroid (your body needs more thyroid hormone). If your TSH is too low, you are hyperthyroid. Hypothyroidism is easily corrected through syntroid medicince. Sypmtoms can include fatigue, weight gain, depression, sensitivity to cold, dry skin. Though there is a range of acceptable TSH levels, I find that when mine are closer to 1-2 I feel better.

No restriction- super frustrated!!! HELP!
Amoud replied to Stephanka917's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I must say I have fallen off the "band wagon" as I have not been to this site since August. I am at 6.5 CC in a 10 CC band and have very little restriction (occassionally if I swallow my food whole I get stuck ) This can indeed be frustrating, I have gained back 10 lbs of my 50 lbs weight gain and completely hate myself. I am taking the initiative to go for another fill on monday but hate that I have let it get this far. I am embarrased that I havent been committing to my band the way I should and this shame has put me into the mindset that I want to loose what I gained before I go back to my Dr and admit failure (it sounds so stupid as I type it). Hang in there and I hope you hit your spot soon. It is frustrating past the point of tears to go through all this to only feel you will never acheive your goal. -
I am still within 10lbs of my goal, but I've gained 25 lbs during this COVID fiasco. I'm convinced it's all wine calories from the lock downs! I maintained under my goal weight for 3 years and now here I am... creeping. So - getting back at it. I'm paranoid, no correction... terrified of regain. You can see the first pic shows where I am today and the second shows where I was two years ago. People around me are "fish toshing" me, but this is where it starts. This is where you have to get a grip and get on track. It only gets worse from here if you don't. So - I'm gonna get back to it... NOW. Any suggestions for "getting back to basics?" I do well with plans.

I have a kidney transplant . . . .
Kenzi replied to sister-woman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm also a transplant patient 6 years ago and doing great. I just want to know how have you tolerated acid reflux and your appetite with the band? How old are you and did the weight come off without exercise or diet modification? Tell me more. I'm studying the lap band because of my weight gain with prednisone. -
I'm not a fan of birthcontrol at all. I did one round of depovrovera injection back when I was 19 or twenty, and I turned itno such a misrible person on it. I stoped it and did not do any form of bc since then. I also have had menstral irregularites from fibroids in the usterus. I also have PCOS, and fibroids and menstral problems go hand in hand with the weight gain. Have any of you girls that have bad pain with your cycles been scanned for fibroids? they can make you very ill when you get your ycle. I did ont voimit but I did feel nauseus and had bad pain with my period and the bleeding was very heavy wich lead to anemia. My doctor encourages me to use some form of birthcontrol to prevent pregnancy. I feel like laughing omg like pregnancy would ever happen? But with my luck i'd dropp like 1/2 of my desired amount then get pregnant. I have an allergy to latex so rubbers are out of the question for us, so my husband said he would obstain for like a year. what would be our chances of conceoption anyway i think they are pretty slim to none at this point without medical intervention. My surgon says i can be banded and pregnant I just have to use some caution as far as banding is considered i guess.
