So I had the PLEASURE of flying for the first time since losing weight! Ohhhh the NSV's were COUNTLESS! Well not countless cuz you can bet your sweet bippy I noticed every single one!! Starting with the preparation...no anxiety about taking up too much of the seat next to me! Then going through TSA and the agent does a triple take of my I.D. so I tell her "It's okay, you can tell me that looks NOTHING like me!" ... and she says "It doesn't! I mean I can sorta tell it's you but...." so I said "I've lost 110 pounds!" She was sooo nice and told me how amazing I look and congratulated me! That was one TSA experience I enjoyed....probably the only one in the history of TSA. Anyway...then there was the removing of the shoes that I used to loathe because tying my shoes used to be a big chore...NOT ANYMORE!! I can take those puppies off and on and tie them NO PROBLEM!! I do it for fun sometimes! Well not really but I could if I thought it were fun. I couldn't wait to board the plane! When I got to my seat it was sooo awesome to see extra seat on both sides of my ass!!! Not a chance there was gonna be any of me spilling over into the passengers seat next to me! Then the seat belt...I heard the angels singing when I clicked the buckle and had to pull it tight...soooo much left over belt! I took a picture! LOL This was THE best trip of my life. I spent 4 days in Vegas enjoying the spa in a bathing suit with ZERO thoughts about my weight. It felt AMAZING to truly be able to relax an enjoy myself. Negative thoughts used to consume me...everything I did brought about thoughts about my weight. I'm so happy to be living without those thoughts anymore. I can do anything! I FEEL amazing and that is priceless!

Will I be a slow loser?

Morning... I was thinking your surgery was on the 24th for some reason :-) I've been up looking at some youtube videos and saw you comment on one.. I was like wow she's all over the place too! lol... that's what it is all about research, research, research. I don't really think you can compare your pre-op experience to your post-op. You have so many different factors going into play after the VSG. The "no" hunger issue, restriction... the possibility of your body going into ketosis..etc. etc. And you know as women our weight fluctuates so much due to nature. I lost 8 pounds prior to surgery and then 10 lbs the first week after...but haven't lost anything in a week... BUT I'm due this week (if you know what I mean) and I always get bloated and/or gain a about 2-3 pounds during that time. It's just my two cents...but I don't think you should worry about it. Just focus on getting through the surgery and back home to recover. I am sure you will do just fine with your weight loss... just don't allow it to consume you. A watched pot never boils... I'm just focused on truly reaching deep within to resolve my love/hate relationship with food. Not using food for recreation but for sustenance and fuel. And don't always look to the scale for your victories... focus on NSV (non-scale victories) as well. Case in point... my scale hasn't moved in a week....BUT my size 18's are very loose/baggy and my 16's are fitting me very comfortably. Not to mention my jawline is more pronounced.. so I know I am losing inches for sure. Best wishes and a speedy recovery !

New here, with a few questions!

new to the boards hi morgan welcome to sleeveland we've been waiting for you mom has lost 80 lbs!!!! how great is that!!! having her support , the two of you working together.......can't get much better than that!!! Just like your mom, your health will substantially improve as you lose weight!!!! ie i know longer take BP meds, diabetes meds/insulin - and i don't wear a CPAP since i lost weight, my epilepsy meds/dosage has been cut in half!!!! thats a HUGE NSV that wasn't expected!!!! NSV = NonSleeveVictory i have heard many others referring to fertility issues - this is many times resolved while losing weight docs all say differently - but many docs strongly "advice" you not to have a baby for a couple years PO I "think" having to pay for surgery, "might" give you/others a stronger reason to be so/more dedicated since you are paying to have the surgery the Water rules are verrrrrrry important - ESSSENTIAL don't drink for about 15-30 minutes before you eat never, ever drink with your meals (people have been shot for less ) don't drink after you eat for 45-60 minutes drink at least 64 oz of water a day you are ahead of the game by loving to drink so much (we are talking about water right?) LOL lose skin???? the younger you are the better your chances are that your skin WILL tighten up abit eventually i was 59 one year PO - goal i was amazed that my tushy/rear end did tighten up considerably sure exercise will help to a point, but............. in the hospital my meds were crushed up but once i got home - i swallowed them with no prob many, many people say one of the primary reason for surgery.............. is to be able to enjoy, run, play with their children, grandchildren this will happen to you too!!!!! read the boards, absorb all the good info and ask your questions!!!! grab some books in the library ie WLS Surgery for Dummies (WLS = weight loss surgery) i see success in your future good luck take care kathy

    Come on 100's

So...i had typed a long, heart felt answer, then my Ipad decided to randomly close the internet browser and I lost everything. So...the gist of what I said was I understand where you are coming from. It did seem to take forever to reach under 200lbs to me. I confess i am a bit obsessed with the scale, so I am trying to focus more on NSV's. You're doing a GREAT job. You just have to be the one thing I am not...patient. You WILL get there. Just think, would you be upset if you gained the amount lf weight you lost? That helps me keep it in perspective when I feel I'm losing too slowly or not enough. If i were gaining 2lbs a week, it would be torture.

What I would give for a Sandwich!

Try to project a year from now...when you weigh less, when you have had dozen's of NSVs...buying smaller sized clothes, off your meds, feeling and looking better.... I was miserable on the preop diet....and I am so so much better now. I know it's easier said than done but one short year ago, I was where you were and the difference between then and now is unbelievable. Just this afternoon, I was sitting with my coworkers in the kitchen, finishing my 1/2 sandwich and clementine. Heck I even had a couple of thin pretzels. So...just know that sandwiches are still in your future. Oh...and while we were chatting, I leaned back in my chair a bit and crossed my legs. Such a little thing...unless like me, you haven't been able to do that in years. I feel so normal now that it still takes my breath away. Hang in there....it will get better...I promise.

    Any other September 2013 bandsters?

hey every one. i had totally lost track of this tread. good to see folks are still on track.. I'm still struggling to lose it seems that i only lose right after a fill then i am up and down the same 2 lbs till the next fill. over all i am seeing a steady decrease but it is really frustrating for the 3 wks of the month. i only eat 3 meals a day. however the snaking has gotten a little out of control lately as the slow loss is really starting to get to me. . On a NSV side of things i played a few games of bowling last night.. normally it is one game and i'm out - usually my back starts to cramp about the 5th frame and by the 10th i'm barely bowling.. last night i didn't feel a thing not that my game improved any . hope you all stay healthy happy

    Surgery today

Congratulations...waiting to read about your milestones, NSV's and all of the great things that come along with your new lifestyle!
  9. Yesterday, as I was getting dressed for a doctors appointment, I noticed that my favorite comfortable pants (my yoga pants - whole 'nother story - love, love, love yoga pants) were dangerously close to falling off my hips.....which was not the case just last week while stalling. Also, my favorite blouse just felt sloppy. So, I put something else on, which ALSO felt strangely loose, but was not in danger of causing a social embarrassment. When I went to put my coat on, it very clearly felt like a stranger's coat. So then, I went to my storage closet and pulled out a wool coat that my boyfriend had bought me three years (and 50 extra pounds ago on my already obese body) for my birthday. It was still in the dry cleaner's bag from when I sorrowfully retired it when I could not button it up anymore. Cautiously I put it on, and buttoned it up - with room to spare! OMG - how could my body change so drastically in one week, when I had just come out of an exasperating stall? This morning, as I am getting ready for another closet flush, I have figured it out.......my body has been changing all along. I just could not see it because of my fatty fathead mindset. This sleeve thing and diligent exercise are doing their work even if the scale tells a different non-parallel story. That heavy 53" belly that was throwing my balance and posture off, is finally shape shifting and shrinking. Today, my mind is catching up with this amazing transformation that is happening to my earthly container. Oh yeah, and get this......The aforementioned appointment was at the pain clinic. I have been going there every three months for three years to get lumbar epidural steroid injections for sciatica. Yesterday, as I was getting positioned on the table, as the doctor is going through the patient ID process, he looks at me, and then my paperwork, and asks if they sent in the right paperwork. Have you been here before? They had to make sure, because they can't just give these injections to anyone, right? What is was, was that they did not recognize me. I explained it was for three reasons. 1. I was a redhead every other time I have been in there, but I am about to go through a drastic hair loss event and decided to quit keeping up with my birth red, and just embrace the gray of my mature years as the new hair comes back in. 2. It has been 5 months since I have been in because I had weight loss surgery and my discs have behaved a little longer this time. 3. I have lost 46 pounds and my face is way thinner. (When all is said and done, I will have to replaced my drivers license picture) Needless to say, I am stoked today. The sleeve has been so worth the inconvenience of having to treat my body and life like the precious gifts they are. Deny myself limitless carbs or deny myself inflammation and misery????? The choices are getting easier day by day. What a journey this is!!! It is not just about weight loss. I am discovering a whole new inside me who has been hiding behind a veil of fat and fear of rejection. Did you see the news story yesterday about the woman who was expecting triplets, and when delivery time came, there was a fourth baby who had totally escaped both x-rays and sonogram? It was hiding behind the other three fetuses in the womb. That's as good an analogy as any, I guess. I suppose a lot of us have just been hiding behind our issues and insecurities and are just now coming into or own as the people we are meant to be. Folks, I am just so happy today. What a revelation and huge step in my progress.
  10. Hey! I will take a NSV anywhere, anytime! Great for a morning smile, too!

Ok I went to the grocery store today and I didn't take in enough money so the checker I knew suspended my trans action because there were people behind me and I didn't want to make the wait , told him I would run to my car and get more , and to my surprise I actually did run , lmao I have only ran twice having the band , as I could barley walk before , so that was a nsv been on a plateau for 3 months , but I guess since my clothes are smaller she thought I lost more weight.

    Jfc- that's a big NSV!
  13. YAY! It's so exciting to be able to reply to this thread on the OTHER side! I am only 4 weeks out and my journey, so far, has been pretty smooth. Here are the things I wish I knew: - I wish I knew how TIRED I was going to be for about 2 weeks following surgery. I'm just now starting to feel like my old self again. - I wish I had known how important it is to have someone to share my NSVs with! People who have never been seriously overweight just don't get how exciting it can be to wear a shirt you tucked away in the back of your closet 5 years ago, or to take a bath and FIT in the tub! - This is something I actually knew, but I see others struggling with this so I wanted to share it here: how important it is to work with a counselor or therapist about food issues before AND after surgery. The psychological eval most of us have to have is cursory, at best. And we didn't get to these weights because we loved food. We have food issues. Some of us have eating disorders. And this is stomach surgery- not brain surgery! Working with my counselor in the months leading up to surgery and now, after surgery, has made this transition SO MUCH EASIER!
  14. I have always wanted to run on a beach and this morning I was able to do that. It has been 1.5 years since my surgery and I am training in Sarasota Florida for a new job. I got up early this morning to go for a run. It was beautiful to watch the sunrise and achieve a goal! I love my new life!! The pictures are my view this morning.

    Albany, New York....?

Brick house hope your feeling better! Still thinking of you! I also wanted to share two things with everyone. One. I had my well what I'm considering first NSV! I got out of the shower today and the towel actually fit all the way around me!! It was a very proud moment for me. I've been at a stand still with the weight buy I know I'm losing inches! Things are fitting better if not getting loose so even tho the numbers on the scale aren't moving. I know other things are. And I'm ok with that! Yay! The second thing I wanted to share is. I signed up for The daily burn. It's an online workout thing. You can stream the videos from any device basically and they are a series of workout videos customized to what your looking to do. I started it today and my first video was 19 minutes and it was awesome! There's actual real life people in the videos with their own disabilities and It's starting me off slow and I work my way up. It's 10$ a month after the first free month trial period. I picked how much time I'm willing to spend on the work outs (I chose 30minutes) and I dunno. I'm really excited and wanted to share.
  16. Sometimes it is about the numbers. NSVs are great, but to be healthy I need the numbers to reflect that. So as of today (14 months out), I have lost over 110 pounds. I have less than 30 pounds to lose to reach goal. I have lost 41% of my original weight. And for me, the number that got to me the most today – 80%. I have lost 80% of my excess weight. So if you're starting out on this journey, don't get discouraged by the statistics. Do your own math. Know what you need to lose. Know the percentages. Understand what it's going to take to lose the weight. And then set a realistic time period for reaching your goal. Believe in yourself, more than you believe in the stats. Best wishes on your journey!
  17. My hubby likes to say we got a 2fer. I've lost 69, he's lost 35 due to his change of diet and exercise. Congrats on your NSVs. The add up wonderfully.

Of the TONS of reasons I'm happy with my decision to get the band, not hiding from the camera is a major NSV that strokes the "vanity" part of my ego the most.

  21. I use to hate taking pics...I don't anymore! Thanks Miss Pealie, the best Lap Band in the world!
  22. My best friend gave me 2 boxes full of tons of clothes! I was trying them on yesterday and I was happy when the size 10's seemed extra comfortable. I had tried on one pair of jeans that I really liked and though they zipped and buttoned with ease they weren't quite as roomy. None the less I liked the way they looked best so I decided to put them on for the day and I realized that they were a size 8!!! I was shocked, I have no idea when I was a size 8 before, I assumed it must be the jeans, so I looked through the box and found another pair of size 8, again they zipped with ease. I was cautiously excited but still thinking that it was just the luck of the jeans. So my husband and I went shopping, I tried on 4 different pairs of pants all a size 8 and all fit me!!! Of course some fit better then others but they all buttoned and zipped with ease. I can't believe that I am in a size 8 I have been a pretty slow but steady loser so for me this is an accomplishment, I wasn't sure that I would even make it to single digit clothes. My ultimate goal would be to wear a size 6 and now I am feeling like slow but steady might get me there, even if I take longer then others! I love these NSV's thanks for letting me share
