    Well, that SUCKED.

Yep, I'm fine. Just dreading all the crap I have to do tomorrow morning. I'm hoping that I can get everything done (call insurance, drop my car off at a body shop, arrange for a rental car, etc.) and still get to work on time. I don't think it's going to happen, honestly, since my insurance company doesn't open until about 9:00 (I have to call them to get a list of approved body shops), and I have to be at work at 10:00 with a half hour drive.
  2. Thank you everyone for your comments and support. I happen to be an honest person and don't like to hide things especially from friends. But it's weird that I get praised from friends I've acquired over the last 10 years and a person I know for over 25 yrs and I'm the godfather to his daughter would make a comment like that. But I agree, his comment had nothing to do with me and was more to make himself feel better. Unfortunately a person can live in the gym but if you don't eat right you'll play the up and down weight game for the rest of your life. Much love.
  3. I had my surgery in April. By the middle of June I was staying focused. I was attending my OA meetings every week, I was walking at lunch time, I was eating the right things. Then on June 16th my oldest son (10) told me that my husband, his step dad, beat him up while I was at my OA meeting a month prior. Needless to say my life became different instantly. I had to kick out my husband the next day. There was a lot of unpleasant stuff over the next 3 weeks that resulted in a restraining order against him which included no visitation with our 2 year old daughter. I was devastated. How could a man I was so in love with be like this? So, 3 months later, at my 3rd fill appointment, I had only lost 4 pounds. Considering all of the emotional eating I was doing, I was pretty happy that I had lost those 4. At my 2nd fill appointment, a week after I kicked out my husband, I told my PA that was giving me the fill, about what was going on in my life. She said to just focus on getting though it and not stress over the weight loss. Then at the 3rd fill appointment, when I only lost 4 pounds she was disappointed in me. I think she forgot what I was going through and I didn't want to talk about it anymore. My concern was that my PA seemed like she didn't want to give me a fill at the 3rd appt. because I hadn't lost enough weight. I finally got some restriction from that fill (5.5cc in a 10cc band), but I am not quite in the Green Zone yet. My next fill is Nov 8th. I lost 5 pounds after that fill, then more stuff happened with my husband and I gained back 4. I'm back to it now and lost 2, for a net loss of 3 pounds since my last fill. I'm worried that my PA won't give me a fill at my next appointment because I have not lost enough weight. So, I'm back at it, hoping that all of the divorce/custody stuff has settled down, and sticking to my meal plan. I can stick to it as long as I don't have the major emotional stuff going on in my life. Anybody else have major life changes happen during their journey? How did you deal with it? I can manage the head hunger that comesl with daily emotional/stress stuff. It was just the big whammy life stuff that knocked my train off the tracks. Has anybody out there be refused a fill because they didn't lose enough since the last fill?

    Fills...

My doctor decides based on how much weight I've lost. He put off my first fill because my loss was really fast. When it slowed down he gave me a small fill (1 cc), and said if it wasn't tight enough to come back in four weeks for another 1/2cc. He did ask me about my restiction level before he decided on a small fill. I'm glad, because after about 10 days, the fill kicked in, and I have had to force myself to eat to get in 800 calories since Thursday. No slimes or PB's; 2 golf balls. I'm just not hungry. In 2 weeks since that fill, I've lost 8 lbs. I trust him.

    Hard to lose areas

I'm a pear and despite my BMI being 19 and all my chest bones showing, I still have a fair amount of padding on the backside and thighs. People tell me all the time I'm too thin but as soon as I get enough weight on me to hide the ribs in my chest, I have a muffin top and saddlebags. I have to stay skeletal on top for my lower half to be anywhere near acceptable to me.

    set back!!!!ugh!!! i wanna scream!

thanks everyone for your reply's. i went in for my 3rd fill today. it was scheduled for next week but they called and cancelled since the doc wasnt gonna be in the office on that day. i have a gazillion things going on right now, so i had to go today. I was not shocked when i went for my weigh in and i had gained 3 pounds (2 of the 5 i had gained was from my cycle). I didnt feel like they were judging me. no one yelled at me or questioned why i had gained weight. the person who weighed me just politely told me you gained 2 pounds, but we're gonna fix that. i was so glad i didnt ge the stank eye! LOL my doc just asked me how things were goin. went thru the usual process and i was done. he told me to be careful cuz i was really tight. i dont mind that at all. so i'm just praying i get this ball back rolling again. everyone wants to know how much he put in, but honestly that doesnt really matter to me right now. i think that's just something else to stress about cuz if he said something like 10 cc's and i hade a 11 cc band(dont know if those are actual numbers) then i would be freaking out. so i'll just take what i have for now and move forward.

10 Days Post-op: Is this the honeymoon?

I got my band 10 days ago. I'm happy to say that I didn't succumb to temptation before my surgery. I went in feeling a sense of accomplishment and ready to embark on my journey. I'm thankful that I had a good surgery experience. My surgery was at 7:30am and I left the hospital at 10:45 feeling pretty good. We stopped at the pharmacy on the way home and picked up my pain meds. Spent the rest of the day just resting and (with the voice of my surgeon in my head) walking aroung every 15 minutes while I was awake. The rest of the week was pretty easy. I rested when I felt like it, walked every day, and sipped liquids. I was so surprised at the lack of hunger. I thought it must have been due to swelling, since I've been told that they do not put any saline in the band at first. Came back to work this week. Monday was the hardest (isn't it always). I still felt pretty sore and a bit tired out. Went home early. I'm on mushies now. Trying to follow all the rules. I've been successful so far. This hardest thing has been the instruction to eat only one bite every 10 minutes. Holy cow! It takes FOREVER to eat a meal. Have been trying to get creative with my foods, while still following directions. Had the best dinner last night. DH (who does most of the cooking-lucky me) made spaghetti. Ground turkey, Paul Newman sauce...mmm. I pureed the meat/sauce in the magic bullet and layered it in a small bowl with lowfat ricotta cheese, topped it with a sprinkle of mozzarella, and microwaved. Soooo good! Only had about 4 bites and was done. That's been the experience so far. I can eat about 4 or 5 bites and I'm done. Not Full. I haven't tried to push it. I just eat a bit and have been satisfied with the small portion. Which makes me wonder...did they fill my band afterall? I see the surgeon for my first follow up tomorrow and I'll ask. Or maybe it's just post surgery swelling and will wear off? I guess time will tell. In the meantime, enjoying the honeymoon. BTW...had to buy new bras yesterday. Between the 27lbs lost pre-op and the 9lbs since, my old bras were too big. HA!

10 Days Post-op: Is this the honeymoon?

Hello there, I got my band 18 days ago. My appointment for my first fill is December 10 and I am sooooo looking forward to it so that I can get back on track. The first week after my surgery, I was on liquids, the second week of surgery, I was hungry and ready for food so I started to try to eat. Sure enough, the food went down with no problems, so I had one day of muchies and the rest was history, I started eating regular foods with no problems but the portions were smaller than I would normally eat before surgery. With the fear of gaining wieght, I put myself back on a liquid diet for a few days so that I wont feel guilty when I have thanksgiving dinner. I guess my swelling went down so I feel no restriction. Hopefully with the fill I can get back on portion control... Cher, congratulations on your weight loss and as for the bras, lol.. me too, I've lost 26lbs since my band and my bras are starting to feel a bit big..... Seneca, I still new to his band but know people who have had the band and don't feel hungry.. I was told that sometimes they forget to eat because they are now hungry. I hope I will feel that way after I am perfectly ajusted.

any one with a lapband in dubai...?

Hi . I was banded at Emirates Hospital in Duabi March 6 this year however I live in Abu Dhabi. LIke you I am doing most of my research post operation. Loss was 10 kg in first 6 weeks but slowed up since then. Bigger fill on MOnday just gone so I have had the challenge of discomfort and unable to keep anything down. The inability to keep anything down was certainly more than a little scary. The surgeon saw me the same day inspite of just ringing for advice as to how long I should leave it before returning to see him in Dubai. He immediately slotted me into his day.. and a trip to Dubai resulted in .5cc out and all is well. I was very very impressed with the responsiveness to my concerns. I have followed up with fluids for the last few days and today tried scrambled eggs and yoghurt. I can get only a few tablespoons down before feeling uncomfortable but looking forward to the weight moving again. HAng in there....The first two months were definetely the most difficult. Things do improve.

    Giving Up

Thanks to the both of you! I do have free foods and I've been eating them but right now I'm on a 10 day diet that consist of only meats & veggies...next 5 days will be two shakes & a low carb meal & then 14 days of a full liquid diet...I'm trying to stay strong but I live in Louisiana and nothing is really carb free or sugar free...but I'm trying!

    Vertical sleeve is done! Yayyyy!

Hello all. I had my sleeve done on 10-17. I am doing ok just very gassy and thirsty. Is that normal? I have not been hungry yet which is surprising to me. I am unable to drink water the way I used too .
  15. @@lauraellen80 I'm finding myself doing that with a size up now that I'm pretty much in maintenance. I know statistically people gain 5-10% back within a few years, so I think I'm mentally preparing for that "what if". What are your guys' thoughts about that? Get rid of them or hold on?

    Post menopausal bleeding

I agree with the other posters. Definitely get it checked into. My mom went that about 18 months after she finished menopause. They checked everything out, did a d & c and she never had a problem after that. Although they did check her every 6 months for about 2 years just to be safe. That was 10+ years ago and she has not had any problems since (she is 67 now) My best to you!
  17. Hi, I was banded on 10/20/2010. Have had 3 fills in a 10cc band (3 c, 3cc and 2cc's) not much got stuck after the first two, but after the third, I am noticing more food it giving me a hard time. I am still hungry. Although I eat less than before, I want to hit the "sweet spot" that everybody talks about. I am really getting anxious about not being hungry. When does that kick in?
  18. I'm sort of in the same boat as you. I have 9.5 cc's in a 10 cc band. I know I'm not at my sweetspot yet because I get hungry 1.5-2 hrs after eating. I eat protein rich foods and follow the guidelines. I had a fill 12 days ago and I do at times, have some minor issues (need to chew more etc), but I am generally not satisfied after eating. I feel like a whiner posting this again, because I've already complained about how I feel (sorry guys ) in an earlier post. I'm just amazed with this much fill that I'm not there yet.....

    Diarrhea and stomache ache

I've had my lap-band for 19 months now and for the past 2 1/2 months I have been having diarrhea/stomach aches everyday. So I went to a gastro. Dr. and am to get a colonoscopy and an endoscopy in 2 wks so went to my lap-band Dr for a total unfil for my endo. Well, that very day I did start feeling better after my unfill, I only had 5.5 in my band so I didn't think it would make such a difference in how I felt but it did and now I don't have the stomache aches anymore and the diarrhea is gone. I really think it's my band that was making me feel this way. Has anybody else experienced this??? Thanks, Alice

    One week post-op

Hi Kelly I am getting banded on Jan 17. I have only told two people and don't plan on telling others because I don't want to deal with their comments. I weigh 238 lbs my all time high and I am ready to do something drastic. I am going to focus one day at a time on what I am supposed to eat or do. I am afraid of failing like I have so many diets before. I'll be going through the same thing in 10 days. I have to think positive. You have to think positive too. You need to care about yourself and do this for yourself. You can do it. Focus on other things besides food (our favourite friend for a long time). Go for a walk, take a long bubble bath, visit a friend, buy something non food ie a new nail polish. Start talking positive to yourself inside your head - I can do this, I can do this, ... Keep posting. There are lots of successful bandsters on this site. Lynda soon to be banded too

    Having Surgery Tuesday

stay on liquids as much as possible...You don't want the surgeons telling at the last minute that they won't do the surgery because all of the foods that's in your system...I knew a patient that was turned away on surgery date because she was eating foods on a regular...If you get hungry...Try sugar free applessauce, sugar free pudding...things that won't stick in your system.....GOOD LUCK...I HAD MY LAP BAND SURGERY ON 3-25-10..AND SO FAR I LOST 30LBS. I AM STILL EXCITED AND MOTIVATED....GOOD LUCK...YOU CAN DO IT...WE ALL CAN IF WE PUT OUR MINDS TO IT.
