Gym or no gym, that is the question
shedo82773 replied to AZBlackhawk's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi, I just typed a whole paragraph and lost it. BOMB gone. So here I go again. I had my RNY July 2, 2013. I lost my weight in 6 months (I weigh between 125-130) I have maintained my loss for 3 and 1/2 years. Because I had a few problems with Strictures and my hubby's failed revision from his Lap Band to a RNY. Which he almost died. He developed abscesses. He was so sick for 9 months and 3 of them he doesn't remember. So Tersigni called us "PROBLEM KIDS"! He actually dropped my hubby wouldn't see him. We are so thankful that our PCP pulled in a favor with a Surgeon here in Roseburg. He put in a wound vac and he immediately started getting better. The whole ordeal was awful. I now go to OREGON SCIENCE AND HEALTH UNIVERSITY. For everything. My hubby finally a year ago this June went to Juarez, Mexico. He ended up getting a Sleeve. But his heart and mine really wish he could have had his RNY. The weight is coming off so much slower than mine did. But...at least he lost enough to have his (kidney cancer) procedure done. Life is great!! BTW I live in Roseburg, Oregon. Which isn't but 90 miles from l us. How do you like living in California? We lived there for awhile (Ukiah) but...Oregon is just our home. It is exciting to meet someone that also had the same DR. Plus our journey has been real close. I had mine in July 2013 and yours was July 2013 also. Yes, this is a very small world. I would love to keep in touch with you. I will give you my email ifyou are interested just let me know. Have a wonderful day!! -
Got my surgery date....10 days to go!
RSREED53 replied to chumashlady's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just wanted to look and feel pretty. My health was so declining that I needed to have WLS as revision to the gastric bypass I had 10 yrs ago. Preop was not a bad plan for me--I now am challenged by eating the solid foods. I am glad you are getting sleeved soon and wish you well. Ronda -
Well, today is the day. SURGERY DAY. It's more complicated than when I had the gastric sleeve because not only are they doing a revision from sleeve to bypass, they are removing my entire lower and mid stomach (the part that is bypassed) because that's where all my polyps develop. It's a 2 hour surgery, and I was told I'll be in recovery for about an hour after. It's like having 2 bariatric surgeries in 1, so the recovery/healing/down time will be worse than my original surgery. I'll be in the hospital for 2 nights, so I'll be home sometime on Friday the 30th. That sucks, and is really annoying (I hate hospitals) but I know it's necessary and will be worth it. I can't wait to get my life back. Working out, feeling good, no more in and out of the hospital, being ME again. This has been a looooong road, but I'm finally almost at the finish line. It's gonna be awesome when I hit my weight loss goal (I'm 70 pounds away and speaking it into existence now that THIS TIME NEXT YEAR I will be at my goal weight). So wish me luck, and I'll see ya'll on the flip side

New & Revision Is Scheduled!
Threetimesacharm replied to ashleytn's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just had my revision surgery on September 10th. It is very different than the band. You literaly can not eat beyond your full point. Right now I am up to 4 oz of shake at a time. It really is a glorious feeling, and the thought of not being able to overeat again is wonderful I wish you all the best and no worries: you will do this with the band! -

My Lapband, revision to Sleeve were both done by Dr. Richard Carter in Arlington. He has also been my general surgeon for other non-bariatric issues including bowel obstruction and hernia repairs. My wife and I both love him! -

Hi everyone ..I am currently looking into getting a revision. (Lapband to sleeve). Original surgery was done by Peachtree Bariactrics (Dr. Rashid in 2008); however I am just wandering has anyone used them for a revision and/or if not, do you know of a good revision doctor? Any information would be helpful. Thanks

Any Band converters under........

Im on the 3 months nutrionist stage. Hopeful rny revision by Nov or Dec -
I just found a $550 price difference between two coordinators too. One considers me a "revision" and the other doesnt. Where is this extra $550 going? Something my current coordinator didnt tell me until I questioned the price difference (and was told up front by another coordinator) is that they charge 3% on credit card usage. First I had heard of that and I have been dealing with my coordinator for over 3 months now! That extra $$ means alot when you are looking at spending right up to your last saved penny and is something that I feel should have been told up front when I was asking about the payment options, etc.!

volkitteh replied to reshiapooh96's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Good luck with your rny! I am now more than 5 weeks out and I know it will be a life long change but already revision of band to bypass was best decision of my life. My diabetes was gone from 2 days after surgery. That alone makes it worth the surgery and worth avoiding sweets again. -

Has anyone had there port flip???
mkmelissag replied to oceancity4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure when my port "flipped". My first fill attempt was unsuccessful - couldn't access the port after going through 4 needles. (not fun, btw) My second and third fills were a challenge even under flouro. At my third fill appt, the doc injected dye to check for a leak in my tubing.(I never had much restriction and weight was yo-yoing) Sure enough, a leak - most likely from him poking around to find the port. I'm currently working with ins and the doctor figure out how to pay for the port revision. Did you have to go under general anesthetic or just a local with sedation? -
Has anyone had there port flip???
mominkansas replied to oceancity4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No pain at all. I found out when I went for a fill. I was so overweight for my 1st surgery that they could not find any muscle to sew my port into. As I lost weight my fat disolved leaving the port to be loose. I had a revision and had my port sewn in finally. -
Has anyone had there port flip???
mkmelissag replied to oceancity4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My port revision was really easy. I had it done under "twilight" sedation and a local. I was up and about and felt great 30 mins after the surgery. It was strange to feel him tugging and messing around, listening to the surgeon and nurses chatting it up. Interesting experience. The "twilight' was kind of fun. I would say the soreness-wise, it was like after the initial surgery minus the first few days. I took the heavy duty painkillers and slept in the recliner for 2 days, and then just general soreness. The most painful part was paying for it! I had it done on a Tuesday, and I actually put in a few hours at work on Thursday and Friday. Best of luck, and let us know how it goes. -
Revision if you already have a gastric bypass?
catwoman7 replied to Polishanita1's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
unless there's something mechanically wrong with your bypass, it's sort of pointless to revise it. Other than the DS, it's the strongest surgery out there at the moment. If the problem is behavioral, revising it to something else isn't going to help you long term - you have to tackle whatever the problem is, or you're eventually going to have the same issue with the next surgery. revising from RNY to DS is a complicated and supposedly risky surgery that only a handful of surgeons are qualified to do. There are no other surgeries I know of that you can revise to from RNY other than DS. -
Old Story, Preop Gal
Fixerupper replied to palomarules's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Think it has to do with being revision and "lower" BMI. I've asked my doc twice and he has said no pre op diet necessary. I put myself on one anyway because I'm just paranoid . -

Gastric Sleeve to Gastric Bypass
Tomo replied to Im4miracles's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had the revision from sleeve to RNY last August due to severe gerd. Have lost all my excess weight and I can finally sleep restfully all night long. No severe gerd. I can't say whether you will screw up again but I assure you, with the RNY, it'll be much harder to slide back into bad habits. I'm in my 10th month and it's been a lovely journey for me so far. I am still elated that I can get full on 2 eggs. Unfortunately, complications can happen with all surgeries. I had a complication with the lap band and the VSG. No fault of my own. RNY is no longer a permanent surgery, but it is a risky procedure to reverse it. The sleeve is considered permanent. As for vitamins, I had a complete bloodwork 2 weeks ago and I was not deficient in any vitamins, minerals or protein. Cholesterol, triglycerides, sugar, all perfect. I only take a vitamin patch by patchaid. It may not work for others but it sure works for me. I hope this helps. -

SIPS in Seattle replied to Ladycop2070's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Thank you! The time will go by super fast, before you know it you’ll be at 3 months. I feel like I’m a rather slow loser which is usually the case as a revision vs a first time wls patient. But as long as it’s still coming off it then it’s all good. Good luck to you, I’m sure you’ll hit 180-190 in no time [emoji4] -
Sleeve Revision to Bypass due to GERD?
KristieAtkinson posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had very mild heartburn prior to my gastric sleeve. I wanted a bypass based on my high BMI but my surgeon was really pushy about the sleeve being a perfectly viable option even with my heartburn. He fixed a hiatal hernia when he did the sleeve. Heartburn was controlled for a year and a half, however it got so bad I was strangling on acid every night and 3-4 days a week I would wake up with acid coming out of my nose. I was taking two to three acid blockers and sleeping almost sitting up on 5 pillows. My surgeon did a bunch of tests including an EGD and gallbladder tests. Stated there was no hiatal hernia and no signs of abnormal gallbladder-function. He insisted it was a gall bladder issue though and removed my gall bladder. The heartburn did not get better. It got worse and my surgeon wouldn’t consider any other options. 6 months later I transferred all of my records to a new surgeon who looked at my old EGD and said I had a huge hiatal hernia and he operated and fixed it. Instead of nighttime heartburn, I had all day GERD. That was a year and a half ago. Now my new surgeon has done another EGD and a colonoscopy. He says the hiatal hernia has not recurred so he is in the process of getting an approval for revision to bypass. My understanding is the sleeve in some patients causes pressure that causes horrendous GERD & the bypass does not have this problem. It is my utmost prayer that that is the case. Highest weight was 358 and lowest was 179. I am 5’7. I’m now bouncing around 230. My questions to all of you. 1. Have you had a revision to bypass due to GERD? 2. Did it get better? 3. How much weight did you lose afterwards? I know it won’t be as substantial because it is a revision.
