  1. Greetings, I received my surgery date in mid December. It took about four weeks with the Thanksgiving holiday to get approval from my insurance company. My pre-op diet is not a full liquid diet thankfully. There is an emphasis on protein shakes, but I am also allowed to have hard boiled eggs, low fat yogurt, fruit, and frozen meals such as Lean Cuisine, etc. I will have to stop having decaf coffee as of the 31st as I drink it with milk, though I can have decaf tea with stevia. I haven't lost a ton of weight previous to this, but I have done a good job cutting out sugar and caffeine. The holidays were a little touch and go but they are over now. I know it will all be challenging, and I am a bit nervous about surgery (who wouldn't be), but for me with two bone on bone knees, I am out of options and the pros outweigh the cons. So I am ready. My surgery is at Newton-Wellesley Hospital with Dr. Chahal. Impressed with the program and care team so far.

    December 2018 Sleevers!

Soups, mashed potatoes, yogurt, blended fruits yay! I can have my green smoothies again. Along with my shakes. My dr says 6 4oz meals per day but that’s not easy because I also have to get in my vitamins and 64oz of water. I’m usually full after a few sips of anything.
  3. So yes, I was tired the first few days on this Clear All Liquid Diet. TIRED and cranky. My surgery is Jan. 2. I still have the transition headache weaning off of the diet cokes...although tonight seems to be tapering off. The biggest thing is the 'clean out' I experienced over the last 5 days that always seems to happen when I'm on protein drinks - I've been drinking the chocolate Premier ones. I definitely don't need an enema...ha! I ate a few diluted creamy soups REALLY hot and strained. My diet allowed one portion of plain soupy grits (or cereal - oatmeal or cream of wheat) in the morning - that helped to keep me full and the Oiko's zero yogurt. I also got a few of the Light Yoplait yogurts as well to switch things up. I got a variety of flavors Gatorade Zeros and Powerade Zeros. And I allowed myself a sugar free pudding or sugar free jello to mix things up as well. I just bought the sugar-free popsicles. This will pretty much be the diet after the surgery minus the grits for a few weeks so i better get used to it now.
  4. My 2 week liquid diet I was only allowed to have a specific brands of shakes that I had to buy through my pharmacy. Other than those I was allowed sf jello and broth. I couldn't have yogurt or anything like that. I made it through without cheating once. Most of the shakes were sweet and I am more of a savory person so my saving grace was a trick I learned in a bariatric fb group. Yellow mustard. They said it helped cut cravings and it really did! I put some on a spoon and basically had a little taste at a time if I was craving normal food. I started using this probably at the beginning of week 2 and it got me through Sent from my LG-H918 using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. The first few days were awful. I felt tired all the time. But I think day 5 was when it turned itself around. I get those Oikos triple zero greek yogurts in a lot of different flavors for one meal and then I protein shake for the other two. I supplement hunger between meals with either a bullion cube of beef or chicken (in hot water of course) and that really kept me going. Plus my doctor allows sugar free Popsicle so I would have that or a sugar free jello at night before bed. This is a little hard for the post-op liquid diet but it really helped me pre-op

    Only few days in.....

I had my surgery the 20 th and could barely get anything but broth down on the 22-24th when I get home . Then all of the sudden my hunger came ROARING back last night . It seems this is common once your stomach is healed enough it seems to come back on line and say “feed me” !! But the reality is it is not really healed enough to handle solids , hence our need to to move through liquid to puréed foods . I am going to try the yogurt today and see if that helps and maybe try some cottage cheese early if necessary . But it’s quite odd and disappointing as I expected zero hunger post surgery🤬
  7. I am going on say 5 post op and had my first shake today . Could only do a little in the am and then had more in the PM. All of the sudden tonight my hunger came roaring back! I’m a little freaked out .. how will I do another 9 days on liquids ? I am permitted yogurt , so will try that tomorrow. Any thoughts on soups , etc I can have on liquid phase ?

    Tired of Liquid

I was allowed to have yogurt watered down with a little milk. I also made sure that I varied my protein shakes. I had premier and unjury chocolate, syntrax nectar lemonade and fuzzy navel, and some others. I also had some millie's sipping broths to use as some of my liquid so that I coudl have some savory. sometimes I'd add unflavored protein powder - but I didn't love the taste.

    Preop not losing

Happy Holidays everyone. Just wanted you all to know I did end up losing 7 pounds after 14 days of hellish torture LOL. My doctor said my liver shrank a little but not a lot. He said it will continue to shrink as I lose weight. I was on 19 medications and he said that can sometimes have an effect on the shrinking... so now we know. Surgery went well and other than feeling like I did 100 situps I wouldn't really know I had surgery. No real after effects. I threw up once in the hospital when I took too many of my 19 meds at once but other than that no other issues. I'm back to drinking normally with no problem. Still no food yet, I have 8 more days to go to get to puree but I get milk and yogurt on Wed and I'm really looking forward to it. I think it will settle okay but will do small amounts at first. Thanks, everyone for being so nice and supportive! Love this group!

  11. Ok, my diet is First 2 day: clear liquids including sf jello and popsicles and tea Day 2-9 protein drinks, yogurts, cream soups, sf pudding Day 10-16 pureed foods, applesauce consistency Day 17-30 soft mushy foods like ground meat, tuna, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs

    Tired of Liquid

Ask your surgeon of course, but I was allowed blended bean and pea soups, cottage cheese, ricotta and greek yogurt.

    Only few days in.....

Hey - I did say that! Another thing that works is a few swigs of chobani yogurt smoothies. Creamy, drinkable. Yum.
  14. Vacation, birthdays,Bar mitzvahs, So I eat cake! Normally I guess anyone should feel like it's a terrible choice but I don't because: event/special occasion food; cake apparently doesn't cause dumping syndrome in me (but chicken and yogurt can so whatever) and it made me regular without the use of any psyllium or laxative teas.

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?

Liquid, puree, soft foods, then regular, but I have found it difficult eating "regular" foods. I revert back to eating a lot of soft foods.... Refried beans, yogurt, etc. I have the best success with those too. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. I had my pre-op diet a couple days ago and I'm allowed 2 protein shakes and 2 meals (60% lean protein, 40% non-starchy veg). What's your pre-op diet? This is my list for post-op weeks 1-2: Eggs FF refried beans Apple sauce (with unflavored protein powder) Chili (I'm going to mash the beans up so that it's more of a pureed consistency) Greek yogurt Ricotta Bake Pudding (with protein powder) Weeks 3-4 Sliced turkey Tilapia Soup Buffalo chicken dip That's what I have so far!

Phew that was a close one!

Today my teaching team did Breakfast treats for the Christmas party. I skipped over bagels, muffins, breakfast pizza, French toast bake and instead had some Greek yogurt and a banana. Never in my life would I have thought I could have done that. No one questioned my choices and I was able to laugh and enjoy the party with everyone else, We are stronger then we think
  18. Crush up the Oxy and put it in some yogurt or applesauce. They gave me a gigantic horsepill of Potassium post-op and said I had to either break it into fourths to take it or crush it and put it in applesauce. They gave me Percs and I only took like 2 or 3 of them. Just had muscle pains and I found pain meds don't help with that.

    Puree fo'evaaaa

I don't wanna! lol. And physically can't because that shite hurrrtttsss like a mofo. Had issues even with yogurt this a.m. Just not gunna cry when the doc says I have another 7 weeks to go. All I'm saying is... if I knew all I had to do to lose weight was eat things I already love all the time, I would have tried this long before surgery. lol! Everyone complaining about the puree stage... what is wrong with shoveling refried beans and squishy cheese in your face? It's awesome! 😛

I Was Amazed When I Heard This

I'm certain that I had some in that time frame - it was just another meat protein. When my wife was going through this and commented to the doc that she was having some problem tolerating ground beef, he told her that such was not unusual, and to try good quality steak like a filet, and that many find that to be better tolerated. He was right. Some of the differences are just individual tolerance differences, and some may be program related, and how the dietary progression proceeds. Our program has us on semi-real foods (soft stuff, at least - eggs, yogurt, oatmeal, fish, and purees - from the hospital on out, so we may, on average, better able to handle steak at 4-8 weeks than those who are on liquids for the first month. There was also no liquid or fasting diet pre-op, either, so the stomach had less time to forget what it was supposed to do.

    November 2018 Sleevers!?!?

I had my post op appt yesterday, I was sleeved on 11/19 & lost 17lbs! I was genuinely surprised. I know my clothes are fitting looser, but I’m trying not to focus too much on my weight right now and focus on more of the nutrition. I can’t believe how much more energy I have and how much better I feel walking. I’m so excited to see how the next year goes. Has anyone made any yummy recipes for the soft stage? I feel like I’ve been boring and sticking to chicken, cheese sticks, yogurt & chili mostly. I need a little variety the next few weeks!

What do you eat for breakfast?

I always have a greek yogurt. Easy to grab and bring to work. On the weekends, maybe cottage cheese or eggs or a shake. Nothing fancy.
  23. Hi, I am ten days out from RnY. I have been feeling pretty good getting almost all I need. I just feel like I am eating wrong and doing everything wrong. I walk everyday because that is the best for me in a lot of ways. The protein shakes are kinda up in the air a bit. I love the chocolate Muscle Milk. Vanilla shakes not as much. I can do any of it if it's ice cold and I don't have to sip it. It is that normal? I feel like I can drink anything too quickly. Is that normal? Sipping and I aren't the best of friends. I am used to drinking a lot and often due to diabetes and medications I have been taking. The only real thing that seems to bother me is being too close to smokers and peach yogurt. Lol! Any advice is welcome and thank you all very much. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. Eggs are good, but a pain to make on a weekday morning. I can't stomach a protein shake or yogurt that early in the day. I tried high protein oatmeal, but it is so filling that I can barely have any, and that just isn't enough protein. I have been doing a thin slice of Dave's Killer 21 grains and seeds bread (bread is ok on my plan) with a tablespoon of natural peanut butter. That goes down well, but it is only 7 grams of protein, leaving me a lot of make-up later in the day. So what do you eat for breakfast?
  25. So I'm 7 days out, just starting purees today. Had to pop in at a work party and of course there was NO food I could eat. I did down a yogurt before I went, but sitting there with food in my face became a THING! So I dipped celery into a smooth dip. And it was good. So I did that several times. Still good. Fast forward 45 minutes until I arrived home and guess what?? Out she goes! I didn't think about the fat content that might have been in ranch dip, I thought, oh well, similar to yogurt, probs has protein, I should be good. Pouchie says "That's a no from me Dawg!!!"
