Surgery scheduled! Normal to feel like I want to eat like a pig until then?
suepeeps replied to Jenny12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had tons of food funerals before surgery. It was weird because the closer I got to surgery the less I wanted to eat... I did stick to my 10 day liquid diet before pre op. It was almost a relief to start the liquids after all the food funerals! lol -
Lopez? Kelly? Ortiz?
Fawn1120 replied to healthbound1's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I used Dr Kelly on 4/6/13. I was very impressed! I have not had any complications and am 10 lbs from goal weight. My husband has decided to get sleeved and we will go back to Dr Kelly! Let me know if you have questions. Linda -
One Year Ago Today!
leatha_g replied to Chris S. - L.I.'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
For me, it means I have not 'dieted' to the point of depriving myself of things I enjoy, including occasional sweets or carbs. If that means I lost 50 lbs in a year as opposed to 100, then so be it. I'm 44 years old, I've been fat since I was 20. I'm not apt to be in any beauty contest or wearing a bikini anytime soon, so there is no hurry to reach 100lbs lost. As long as I am regaining my health and heading in the right direction. It's all good! Whether that's a mistake or not? Nope. It was a conscious decision for me. I don't think it will matter 10 yrs or 50 yrs from now whether I lost 50 or 100 lbs in a year. Either way, God willing, I may still be around to talk about it. If I hadn't chosen the band, I most certainly would not have been. -

Surgeon sums it up.
LipstickLady replied to MoMo12onTheGo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup. Your last line is ON POINT. Every surgeon is different. These are great general guidelines, but they are not "THE RULE". I am allowed gum/straws/alcohol. Six months was the rule by my doctor, I was given clearance at three. I had a catheter as does everyone else in our practice. No complications. 60% is the worldwide average MAYBE, but of all the sleeved people I know, ALL have exceeded 60% weight loss. I think that's an extremely low estimate. Everyone I know hit their goal, or are within 10 pounds of it. I know you said it, and I agree with you. Everyone's surgeon is different. Follow your team. After all, you entrusted them with your life. -
Everyone definatly goes thru the stall, sometimes you lose 1,2 pounds a week sometimes you won't lose none than next you know you dropped 10 in one week.

Surgeon's Visit Tomorrow-Need Reassurance
KabinKitty replied to KabinKitty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think you are snarky. I do not eat bread, pasta, crackers, cookies, cake etc....almost anything that contains flour. I don't tolerate gluten well. I basically eat meat and veggies and occasionally fruit. I do eat candy occasionally. I do not eat alot of slider foods, I guess potato chips would be my one downfall. Those won't be in the house after I have surgery! I wish I knew why I have gained to this weight...wouldn't we all! hahaha When I was a child I was chubby and by the time I graduated HS I weighed 205. I lost alot of weight with a Weight Watcher's type plan at age 19 and stayed in the 103-135 range for years. I had gained up to 230 and now weigh about 215 after cutting out the gluten foods. I have sleep apnea, and take 3 blood pressure meds. After my youngest son was born I gradually started to gain. When I started driving a school bus it increased. I'm sitting ALOT and I think that's part of the problem. I watch almost every new driver start puttin on the pounds after driving a while. It's a stressful tiring job, so in the evenings I'm too tired to exercise...thus the weight gain...which causes me to be more tired....etc, etc, etc. Three drivers had the DS surgery and about 5 have had RNY. I'm 58 years old and that is part of it too, I'm sure. My surgeon told me that he thinks the sleeve will work great for me and had (unknown to me) set my goal at 140....after my last appointment he changed it to 130. When I told him I was worried about not being a volume eater, he kind of snickered and smiled and looked at my husband and said, "she IS a worrier"! He said he was sure I would do fine as the volume I could consume after surgery would be very small. He did say that the surgery can be ruined by stretching the sleeve and with no malabsorbtion to fall back on, those who stretch the sleeve will probably not be successful. -
I'm about 19 days post-op and I'm surprised by the amount of food I can eat. I did the "cottage cheese test" (from "Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients" by Colleen Cook) and according to the test, my stomach can comfortably hold 10 ounces (3/4 cup), which shocked me. I thought it would be half that. I plan to ask my surgeon more about this on my next visit, but is this unusual? I lost quite a bit of weight before surgery on the liquid diet (one week), but loss has been slower than I expected after that. I've decided to weigh weekly instead of every day, so I don't get discouraged by the inevitable up-and-down of daily weights. I know the surgery isn't a magic bullet and it's up to me to make this work, but the sluggish weight loss is a little discouraging. I'm still learning how much I can and should eat, and I'm tracking my intake on myfitnesspal to make sure my calorie counts are reasonable. I'm taking in between 800-1,000 calories on most days, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less.

3 weeks out- Is spicy food a no-no?
Sunshine11/05 replied to mypov's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi there. I was banded on Nov. 19, 2005 and I think it is o.k. to eat spicy foods as long as you do not get a lot of heartburn from it. My doctor said that chili is one of the best sources of protein. This week I had some refried beans and they were very spicy and well I threw up until they were all gone. I do not think that was due to them being spicy though. Good luck with your band and I hope you love it as much as I love mine. -
I could use a buddy, Los Angeles, Ca banded 9/19/08:wub:

I know some of the stomach swelling was from gas. but I am two weeks out, and my stomach is still so swollen. I can tell by my pants being tight on my waist - pants that were loose before surgery and I have lost about 10 lbs since surgery. . i m sure muscles, etc are still swollen and healing in there, right? its not really painful, just uncomfortable sometimes.

It happened slowly over about a week an thanks for the support it's very scary going thru all of this at 19 wish I would have waited a while!!! -
Three years ago this time I was in the operating room and my friendship with Leonida, my band, was starting. During the first year I lost 52 kilos, which is something between 100 and 110 lbs, if I am not wrong.. During the second year I started losing part of my strong motivation and,by the end of the second year and the beginning of the third, I had gained back 10 kilos. Bariatric Pal is helping me come back on track, your approach to weight loss connected to wls is a bit different and many of the suggestions I have read here are becoming part of my life and behaviour. Thanks to all of you!!!

Surgery at 7:30 am this morning!! pre-op over
mountain_lover replied to mountain_lover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for all your thoughts, comments, and prayers!! I came home on Dec. 5 and I am doing oK. Had lots of bad Nausa, but no vomiting. The only pain that I have had is from gas pains. I try hard now to keep them down with meds and watching what I drink. I was worried at first because my weight was up to 235 the day after I got home and the night before surgery I weighed 232. But now I am told that was probably some water, so I do believe it was, because now on Dec. 10 I weigh 226.6 pounds. That was a weight loss of almost 10 pounds in 4 days. I am so happy that I got the sleeve and Dr. Husted my surgeon here in Somerset Ky. is so great. He did not do a leak test. He has a very good reputation. I thank God and my Surgeon for everything going so well. Now I have a long journey ahead of Me to try to do my part. I have not been walking as much as I should be, but I try to get in some each day. I am having a little bit of a problem trying to find things to Puree on my Pureed Diet that will last one more week. I will be on soft foods starting on Dec.16. That is also the day that I go for my two week check up. I went to see a nurse at my family doctor's office yesterday and she said so far everything looks fine. I will be posting on different threads that I have started, so if you would like you may go to statistics on my profile and read all my posts. Thank you again and I hope you all have a happy, and healthy journey with your surgery and recovery!! -
Jeffrey, All is good, i will be 2 years out from the op in May. I am very happy with the op and the results. I am nearly 53 now but I feel 10 years younger. Maintaining is easy and I think getting the VSG was one of the best decisions of my life. Jane x

Dumping syndrome and gas any advice?

The dasani flavored water is pretty good but my favorite drink is Propel Strawberry-Kiwi! 10 calories and it's sooooooooooooooooooooo good! Even my husband drinks it and he usually will drink nothing but mountain dew (yuck!)

My doc said for some reason plain water is the hardest to get down...it's water nausea. I use flavor drops, put fruit in my water. Ice helps. A straw helps (for me). A 16 ounce water bottle takes me like 2 hrs to get down. I'm 10 wks out. Good luck. ❤️

God will work his grace with you as he has done with me. Congrats on your insurance coverage. Mine was sticky too and it was approved. I've been banded 10 days now and feel good. Good luck with your surgery.

I got my surgery 5 months ago and since then Ive had 4 fills. I'm currently at 6.5 cc's. I feel no restriction and no different as to before surgery. I've lost 30lbs but I feel its only because I've really been pushing myself and began running 4 miles up steep hills 5 days a week and I limit myself on portions but find myself feeling hungry often. I got the band as a big aid in helping me lose weight but its saddening to feel like its been useless for me. I cut off so much food out of my life and changed my eating habits on my own. I feel like I can lose track at any moment and gain weight again. My bands max is 10 cc's and I was told average weight loss is 10lbs a month but that hasn't been my case and I'm starting to feel anxious and helpless. Anyone else out there experience my same issue?
