  1. So I have come to the conclusion that I have a racer back gym shirt problem. I keep buying more shirts and they are soo cute and they make me feel cute. I am still kicking butt on my workouts and I have decided to end Keto for now. I have been stressing a lot about food and unfortunately, I hold on to weight that way. It is time to go back to just being mindful of what I eat and how much. 

    Although I look great in clothing, I wanted to show what my body looks like outside of it. My stomach is sagging lower than before I lost weight. My arms are sagging and my breast have deflated. 

    With that being said, I would not go back and change anything. I would not give up being able to jump, bike, go shopping easily and feel comfortable in clothes for anything. I would not trade this confidence or happiness. I am soo a peace with myself and my body. The aches that I feel are from soreness of pushing my body, than from being too heavy that my body cannot handle the weight. 

    This journey has saved my life in more ways than I could ever imagine. I do not hide from the world anymore. I do not hide from people. I go out and want to explore. I meet new people. I have been freed from the burdens my weight had placed on me mentally and physically. 

    With being said, "I LOVE MY IMPERFECTLY PERFECT BODY!!"

      @Newme17 You are right. When it came to Keto, I was stressing out a lot about carbs. That was the hardest part and I noticed that I started feeling anxiety when shopping for foods. Especially, since I stay away from cakes and cookies. I need my fruits and I was limited there as well. Even though I stopped Keto, I will keep some great aspects from it. I have completely cut out bread and flour tortillas. Rice is only a 1/4 cup once every 2 weeks.

      I am with you. If for some reason, I cannot pay to have the skin removed when I am ready to cross that bridge, then so be it. My skin is my journey. Each tiger strip or roll is my badge of honor.

      Yes. It is now time for me to enjoy my life. Just enjoy brining able to move easily and effectively.

      @Thejeweledsleeve I just tried to hit the reply button, or what I thought was the reply button, and hit the report button instead. Geez. Anyway, I was laughing at your needing to pull your leg up using your pant leg to tie your shoes. I can so relate to that situation. I also relate to struggling with the keto diet. I miss having fruit. I think as long as I keep my calories under 1000, I should be able to add a peach here and there.

  2. SO today is day 10 and I started my diet at 224 and am know at 216 lbs. When i first got my pamphlet i thought this would be easy because I thought  I could control my self. But dear god this has been the hardest journey of my life. Childbirth was more straightforward than not eating. I have had more cravings for things that I never really ate since I started. I won't lie I have cheated but food high in proteins. I felt discouraged until I saw I was loosing weight but right know this journey is extremely hard. I salute all who are currently doing their diets and those of you who are long pass this stage. ::) just a few more days to go.

      Yes it did. I was on pre-op for 2 weeks and managed to lose about 19lbs before I went under. Surgery went fine. The biggest advise I can give is start moving as soon as you feel up for it. Even if it is walking +/- 5 minutes at first. I had my operation on Wednesday morning. I was home Thursday afternoon and just walking around my house for a few minutes. Come Friday afternoon I was taking short walks up and down the sidewalk. It really help especially if you get gas pain in the shoulder area like most do after laparoscopic based surgery.

      Pre-op is by far the hardest as far as exercising willpower. You still have all of your hunger hormones, honeymoon period will not start until post op. Hang in there!

  3. I am 20 days post op. Yay! I notice I lost weight (expected) however because I can not lift weights, my arms are sort of hangy. I also haven't had the energy to actually work out, but I've been restless. I guess that's my body saying you should work out Cassy...right? I'm a bit nervous due to occasional lightheadedness which is due to dehydration. However, I feel I need to start working out now. I've never had any form of surgery until this Gastric Bypass, and honestly it threw me for a loop regarding my recovery. I've never felt so weak or helpless. Everyday I get better and feel better, but I have to do better with my water intake. My body is not use to not drinking water. I crave it, I just can't get it all in the way I want. I'm still on the pureed stage, but I don't think I'm doing this right. One day at a time right? :-\

      My doctor said wait 6 weeks before lifting. I also have a weaker upper body strength area, so its my problem area. I expect my arms to be loose and hangy before I get to tone, but I have a feeling that it may be an area I may consider getting skin surgery for.

      Oh ok. That is something that keeps me from wls. Im trying to look at the bigger picture and focus on the health benefits. But I gotta be honest and say the fear of the loose skin haunts me. :blink: But I'm seeing that even if I somehow manage to lose weight without wls, I am still going to have a lot of loose skin. Thanks for sharing your progress

  4. Very excited this morning. Good things have been coming my way all week. I finally got over my stall (which ended up being dehydration) and have entered "onederland".  I have gone from a 40J to a 36H (start weight at 256). And to wrap it up even more nicely, my husband had an very successful surgery for his battle with cancer this Friday. Very excited and happy and a million other things.

  5. I am just a little confused I was banded 8/27/13 I did very well but in the last 3 mos I gain 22 pounds now I am back on track I started out 300 plus as of Now I am 216 I want to get to 180 how many calories and carbs I should be taking in A day thank u all

      A good start is 1200 calories. Aim for losing 1-2 pounds a week. Cut out white sugar and flour, and make sure you get 60-70 grams of protein.

  6. Since my hair will not stop falling out and I still have a lot on my head. I decided to stick with the up-do. 

    I also added a picture of my ID at my highest weight versus today. I was sooo shocked by the difference. 

    My gym day. I wanted to show my setup at the gym so you can see what I do. 

    I have stopped losing weight but I am losing inches.

      @Newme17 It was funny having her workout with me. She weighs less than I do and she was looking at me like, WTF! How are you not dying? I told her to work out like I do 4 - 5 days a week and you will be there too. It is also the way we eat. I noticed that no that I eat a lot healthier, I can do more, breathe better, sleep better and I am not foggy. My body is loving it.

  7. I originally had the Lap Band in 2009. By 2016 I had lost 100 pounds and had reached my goal weight. In October of 2016 I was in a car accident and my surgeon had to do an emergency surgery to remove my band because it had rotated and was restricting all fluids from going down. I have spent the past 6 months jumping through every hoop and request that Molina has requested in order to get a revision surgery to have the Sleeve procedure done. Next week will be my final dietician appointment and we will send in the required paperwork to request authorization for surgery. I pray that Molina approves this surgery. I have regained 87 pounds since my accident. I'm discouraged but determined to get back to goal.

  8. Things haven't been going smoothly lately :( I have gained 5 lbs and undoubtedly it's my fault because I have not been going to the gym or being active at all. On top of inactivity, I have been eating snack foods like crackers, popcorn, pretzels and even a cookie here and there. I don't know what's gotten into me, I'm just not following my diet plan at all. I've been doing good while at work for lunch, breakfast and snack, but once I go home, it's like I never had the surgery. I hate that I've let myself fall off the wagon and as much as I want to jump back on, I'm struggling. How have those of you that have had the same issue come back? What motivates you now that the sleeve isn't screaming no?

      I was sleeved a week before you... so howdy, surgery buddy!

      I'm fond of rules. Rules that make sense, rules that point me in the right direction. Rules that I can live with.

      Cheating my rules only cheats myself.

      My rules:

      1. Create a meal plan and follow it.

      2. Substitutions are permitted when necessary, like for like, or borrow from the next day. (This requires understanding nutrition and record keeping).

      3. I can have pizza 4 times a year. Cake and ice cream on birthdays, pie on Thanksgiving. Local treats on vacation. Cookies (my favorite) on my birthday.

      The thing is, during our weight loss phase, we have precious few calories to "waste" on foods that have no nutrition. Perhaps once in maintenance you can find a spot for 200 calories worth of snack foods each day.. but you will need to count and measure it and make room. 200 calories is like 1 small cookie, and you need to walk 2 miles to burn it off. Is it worth it?

They warned me that I may not lose any weight immediately after surgery and they were right.  I've stayed the same to the tenth of a pound.  I've got my protein in every day, done my exercise (actually more that recommended), and got most of my daily water in.  And I've eaten only those foods dictated.  So Frustrating!.  Any suggestions on how to break this plateau?

      I feel you first I lost a couple of pounds then gained back more! I'm folllowing every thing the doctor said including walking, protein and fluids. I finally hid the scale because the reality is the scale isn't telling the whole story. I've had to replace my entire wardrobe- the clothes I wore in June at the end of our school year didn't fit when's i tried them on last week - two weeks after surgery ( I also lost 40 pounds pre surgery). I put on a size Xl outfit today and in June as wearing 3x! So ignore the scale and check out your clothes, also do you have more energy etc? Good luck!

      I'm not sure how long post-op you are, but the first week you actually gain water weight from all the IV fluids. I lost that and more by the end of the second week. Then at 3.5 weeks I hit the famous 3 week stall...lol.. so yeah very normal for some people. If you get stressed by stalls weigh less often for sure. I weigh everyday and so I am used to the bouncing up and down and don't stress about it. As long as you know you are following your plan you will lose, stall, lose, rinse and repeat.

      I didn't know about this three week stall but I am there right now. I agree that hiding the scale is a good idea. It's hard because I want to know my progress but my clothes are all loose. I already had to do one huge overhaul of my closet and more than half had to be donated!

      I am looking forward to more exercise besides just walking. I heard that will help too!

  10. Hitting goal has been amazing. I'm still in shock and now learning how to maintain. The best thing is that I can now eat a variety of foods and incorporate new and healthy recipes into my diet. Finally, for the first time in live EVER, I feel like I am not on a "diet" per se, more like just eating sensibly. I DO on occasion indulge in chocolate or a handful of chips, but not on a regular basis, and a small bit of it satisfies cravings. For the longest time I drank wine, even after surgery (no recommended!) but I find that now the desire has sone out the window. Instead, I occasionally sip my husbands drink just for fun. At one point before surgery, I drank up to an entire bottle of red wine every evening. Imagine the calories! I just don't want it anymore. 

    I love feeling "normal". I always hated standing out due to my weight, and I always have hated "diets". Being at goal allows me to just eat sensibly and maintain. Cheers!

  11. Yesterday was 3 months post-op. I have lost 35 lbs since my surgery and 82 lbs since August of last year. I am so happy that I decided to do this for myself. I am healthier than I have been in years and I feel amazing.

    I was eating a low carb diet since December of last year and recently decided to transition to a whole foods plant based diet after reading the book Proteinaholic and  doing my own research. I have an incredible support system for this change as my circle of friends from church are all vegans/vegetarians. At this point my daily carb consumption has gone from 30g to about 55-70g and my protein has dropped from 80-85 down to 50-55. My blood sugar control has remained perfect despite the increase in complex carbs. I continue to avoid sugar, white flour, bread, white rice, and pasta. 

    My weight loss has actually picked up this past week, but this may just be a coincidence. I feel really good. The only slight negative I can note is am a little more drained after a run and have been unable to run my long distance of 3 miles yet. I have been sticking to 2-2.5 miles for now. I think my body is still adjusting to the change. 

    I am going to post my photo because a couple of people have requested before and after pics.  It is hard looking back, but it does help show us just how far we have come and what a difference a year can make.

  12. Six months post-op and 90 pounds lost! I'm so happy with the weight loss, but I still can't help wishing it was 100 pounds instead. ;) I still need to find time to do my measurements and take some photos though - I'm leaving for Hong Kong tomorrow morning, so am pretty busy cleaning and packing before I go.

      @Newme17: Hong Kong is just for a few days as a layover on my way home. I have 2 suitcases full of clothes that I am bringing back with me to give away or sell (I still have 5 more boxes of clothes though! - too bad I couldn't bring them all with me)

  13. Feeling really good 3 months post op and halfway to the finish line. I have been hitting the gym pretty consistently at 5:30am :P usually dragging myself in yawing like a fool. I try to get exercise in about 3-4 days a week. I make sure I do a lot of walking on the treadmill as well as lifting weights. This journey isn't over and I am still pushing hard.

      that's awesome. I get up at 5:00 am to run before going to work. I knew I would make excuses after work. It becomes a habit after a while.

      How close are you to your goal weight? I have about 23 lbs to go.

  14. Joined BariatricPal for support and eventually share my story. I am currently waiting on approval from my insurance in order to have the surgery. All my requirements have been fulfilled, so I'm just waiting and trying to stay positive in the meantime. They say another 6 weeks until I should hear something. Hoping I make it don't gain anymore weight in the process.

  15. I have surgery to remove my gallbladder June 12th I have had the band for 4 years....has any one experienced  excessive gas and bloating with gallbladders problems? Can gallbladder problems cause a decrees in weight loss.

  17. My name is Mallory. I am just getting started on my journey. I habe already spoken to a psychiatrist and have a nutritionist appointment on Monday. I am hoping to have my surgery scheduled for 6.10.2017.... I have an endoscopic procedure on May 15 scheduled. Looking forward to finally getting my weight under control. 

  18. I'm new to this site. I live in Portland Oregon and I'm looking at getting the gastric sleeve surgery. I have a feeling my PCP will not want me to do this based on other weight loss convo's we've had. She feels I need to work harder at losing weight. I work a desk job 10 hours a day, ALL my blood tests look great (except for my Vit D levels are too low). My tests (including cholesterol, blood sugar/glucose, thyroid, etc) all looked great because I eat healthy, I workout regularly but CANNOT drop weight (5'8" & 300lbs) I don't have high BP or diabetes but I have back issues and sleep apnea. Every year that goes by I'm steady gaining 10-15 pounds no matter what I do. And that's when I'm watching what I'm eating! I have tried every program, diet, pill, etc. I have dual coverage, Providence Health Plan and BCBS. Does anyone know if you HAVE to get a referral from your primary or are there other ways of getting this done? Also I need a surgeon who will do the surgery without making me sign a consent for a blood transfusion. Anyone with dual coverage that can tell me what their out of pocket expense was? Thank you!

      Now that I can see your whole status, I'm not sure how helpful this is but there are a lot of independent bariatric surgeons you could try (and pay out of pocket). I have Kaiser and was not made to sign for a blood transfusion.

      I noticed that you are from Poirtland, Oregon. I am from Roseburg, Oregon. Which Dr are you going too? I had my RNY done in Coos Bay, Oregon. I kind of fired my Surgeon. Then I started going to OHSU. They took me in right away. I had to have a ENDOSCOPE with a Dialation. Not my 1st but my 5th. I was told that most DR.'s won't take a patient to fix another DR's mess up. I so appreciate them. When are you scheduled to have your WLS? I would love to follow yur journey if you don't mind.   19. Tomorrow will be three weeks since my band removal.  So far i've managed to maintain my weight and even went down a pound or two.  So far so good.

    This weekend is a big one....  I'm flying to Ga to meet Tim's family.  I was supposed to go the weekend of the 24th... but the emergency band removal killed that.  So we are going for Easter.  i'm a bit nervous.... apparently his mom likes none of her daughter in laws and never liked any of Tim's gf's or his wife of 21 years.....

    So ya'll pray for me... hehe

I got home late last night from an exhausting nine-day work trip to Tampa.  Even with all the disruption to my normal routines, I still lost a little over 1 pound (and I had red wine every day of trip).  My partner was able to go with me, thank goodness.  My weight loss journey and transformation was a central focus and topic of conversation the entire time as I have known many of these colleagues for 10 years or more.  As has always been the case during my journey, I answered questions honestly and spoke of my pre-op, surgery, and post-op experiences.  I got nothing but support, congratulations, and best wishes from anyone.  And one person even confided in me that my success has given her the confidence to schedule an appointment with her PCP to talk about WLS.  This is why I have been transparent.  That decision may not be for everyone, but I will certainly never regret it.  Now, I move onward (thankful that I am back home and I can settle into my normal food and drink routine!).

  21. I watch my 600 lb story, all the time, family hates it. But I feel a kindred-ness  to some of the people and their struggles.  Although I was never at that weight. Even though some are as tall as me 5'1,

    Recently I was watching the show and my daughter, rolled her eyes and said Mom do you feel that big and I said sometimes. She said Mom that's sad, do you know how many of those people would love to be the size you are now? (onederland). Honestly I never thought about it that way. But I can say that's its made me more grateful for the weight I have gotten to !!! ;-)

      Both my daughters say that to me all the time. "Mom really do you see yourself that big??? Mommmm you're not it's all in your head" I hear them and while no I may not be 600lbs I am very big in my mind I don't see what the scales says.

Even when I look in the mirror all I have to compare myself to IS the Big me... my hubby hid the scales years ago, everytime I would eat and poop I'd check the scales. And freak when I gained acouple ounces. It kind of became a joke, "ahh just go poop you'll be fine." its something we have to work on,

  22. 5 days post plication op. I've lost another 2 kgs since yesterday, a total of 10kgs (22lbs) in 2.5 weeks including pre op diet period, so excited. I'm at 89 kgs (196lbs) with my goal weight being 70kgs (154lbs) Spoke to my dietitian about soups instead of shakes and she was very helpful. She's happy for me to eat any soup that is thin enough to drink through a straw with no lumps or pieces in it. This has made a huge difference because I seem to have lost my sweet tooth (hope it lasts) and was finding the overly sweet shakes hard going. Pain has subsided now with just the odd stomach twinge now and then. All incisions are looking good and pain free. Feeling very optimistic.

  23. I went to my first Dr. appointment since my sleeve and I was surprised when I got on the scale. A friend of mine had a bet, she thought I had lost around 15 pounds since the surgery, and I thought maybe 10. Well, I've lost 19 pounds in my 2 weeks since surgery!!! I didn't think it would be that much. I've noticed some weight loss in my face, but that's about it. I was very pleasantly surprised. SO YAY ME! LOL

  24. One week down on my pre-op diet and already my weight loss has stalled. Not sure if that's normal or not.

      I was stalled the entire 2 weeks during the pureed stage. Stalls happen. I'll be 3 months out on the 1st and I've been on a stall for 1/2 of the time. The scale is going down so I try not to let it frustrate me too much. The scale will move. Just give your body time.

      Thanks everyone. I'm in pre-op, not post-op. My period started yesterday (2 days early) so I wonder if that also has something to do with it.

      The first three days I lost weight, the next four I didn't. I'm at the beginning of my second week.
