    help!!!

princess_n_thep ~ I am surprised that you think she did not ask US to donate based on her first post and you think that by being skeptical is being judgmental. Like I said, and as others had suggested, there are much better ways to raise funds. Unfortunately, we do live in a society of scammers....I know b/c I do a lot on E-Bay and I've seen a lot. I recently had a guy that contacted PayPal saying I didn't ship an item 3 mos ago. Needless to say, I expected this some day and had documentation and contacted PayPal immediately. It didn't go any further. I would REALLY encourage you to donate and support this effort if you feel so strongly about it. More power to you and her! I for one, cannot afford to take the risk of donating to something of this nature where the questions are too many. Cashley & Doty said it all very well. My mother does a lot on the computer and finds PayPal challenging at times. Don't you think if someone has "never worked a day in her life", her words, has something to offer skill wise to earn some money? I guess I've been with E-Bay and PayPal for too long to be so eager to support this idea. I have had numerous of attempted scams that have come across my e-mail. In addition, I have been a victim of identity theft. Does that make me judgmental or not open-minded? I think not. Just last week, my husband and I pulled over to offer a homeless man a chicken dinner from Lee's. He thanked us, but turned us down b/c he was a vegetarian. It was a good lesson to teach our children to at least TRY to help those in need. The Lord is good to us and I would help anyone with anything if I was able. I have a very kind and tender heart, but I do have to protect myself and family first.
  2. I had my pre-op class today and we talked a lot about protein. Problem is, they push whey protein because it absorbs better, but I’m prone to kidney stones and a vegetarian so whey isn’t an option for me. The dietician is going to do some research for me, but does anyone know of a good vegan protein that actually tastes good?
  3. Stitchy

I need advice or encouragement. Thanks,

Try to eat some meat because it is high in protein, but there are other things. Fish is good, especially Gorton's frozen without breading and easy to fix. Beans are high in protein. I think there are vegetarian bandsters. Maybe you could put out a call to them and see what comes back at you.

    Keto

Damn i thought i replied but it never up loaded...https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/protein-for-vegans-vegetariansPea protein, hemp hearts, tofu, chia, etc. Not single source. Its going to cost you calorically but it can be done. Usually you have to plan very well and make your own foods. Example if you make falafel you can add ground hemp hearts, chia seeds, flax, pea protein, spices, etc. Stir fry mushrooms with fluffed buckwheat and quinoa. Eat with a hummus spread. You will work harder (especially if you don't like legumes) but its possible. I have come to the very real conclusion that my time with animal protein is almost over, but I'm interested in keto, I stopped by to see if I could do it for a short burst then try to vegetarian/vegan keto for a burst to break through anticipated plateaus VSG2017 HW 249 SW 238 CW 167

    Meat tolerance

It'll be a challenge to get all of your protein in if you can't eat meat, though there are some successful vegetarian sleevers on here that might have some good advice for you. Have you talked to your surgeon? Do you have any trouble with eggs or dairy?

    Meat tolerance

I can say as a vegetarian I really don't have any trouble getting my protein in. I imagine being a vegan would be more challenging and likely involve higher doses of soy than I am comfortable with. Especially since so much of the soy we get in the country is highly processed. The real trick was showing the nutritionist that I was serious about making this work. I think once she saw that I did my homework and it was working for me, she felt better about it. Ironically enough I had a uteria episode my very first appointment so they never gave me any issues with needs to keep things as all natural and unprocessed as possible. They had living proof of how bad my allergies could be.

    Baked Spaghetti Fake Out

Hi Lucy! Glad it was a hit! I love this recipe but I recently stopped eating meat, so I need to make a vegetarian version. Thanks for the positive comments!
  8. Most gyms will have trainers on site. Talk with each of them. Find one that looks like you want to look (male or female - the body composition is your concern) and ask them for their story. My trainer used to be very overweight, then he started working out and is now the Naturals Body Building Master for the US. That is the type of goal I have so he was ideal for me. I paid for three sessions per week with him and paid for 3-6 months at a time which got a discount from his normal $85/hour to $55/hour. That was through Gold's Gym. He knew what he was doing, worked with me being a vegetarian, and pushed me beyond what I would have done otherwise. If I hadn't been in two car accidents and he hadn't gone Pro and left the gym I would have stayed with him. A trainer will push you where you can't push yourself. My suggestion is get someone who competes in body building or fitness competitions (they will know what a good high Protein diet should be and how to work heavier weights, which are necessary) or a boxer. Boxing gyms will whip you into shape fast and it's a crazy effective work out.

    Non-creative bandster needs menu ideas!

Let's see...today I had B-scrambled egg with mushrooms (1/4 of "replacement eggs" with mushroom pieces scattered in) L-Boca burger with a pickle and a "dab" of Helman's Light mayo with steamed mixed veggies left over from last night D-3oz of Tilapia, cooked carrots, cooked broccoli crowns Yesterday I had B-scrambled egg with l/f sharp cheddar shredded with a bit of canned spinach (again, 1/4 cup replacement eggs) S-Sugar Free Jello L-Pink Salmon in the foil package..it's a perfect 3oz with canned asparagus D-Vegetarian Re-Fried beans mixed with 3oz canned chicken breast and a couple of tablespoons of salsa with a bit of taco seasoning mixed in I'm only three weeks out and still sort of learning how things effect me. I eat a lot of fish. Salmon (grilled and canned), tuna, tilapia, crab, etc. I also enjoy Morningstar and Boca products. Chicken cooked any way I can imagine (well, never fried). I eat cooked squash, broccoli, asparagus, green beans, peas, carrots, beets (very limited), spinach, etc. Hope that helps just a tiny bit...

    Discouraged

She's not talking about a vegetarian or vegan diet. OP is talking about some extreme "fruit & veg diet".
  11. BLERDgirl

    Discouraged

Fruit & veggie diet? Sorry but that's crazy. I'm a vegetarian. I know for a fact you cannot lose that way. I work very hard to eat a balanced, plant based diet. I include beans, tofu and other non animal proteins. You need your protein. You don't need out help, you need to follow your program and that includes getting enough protein, exercising and getting in your fluids.
  12. I am an animal lover and self-proclaimed 'crazy cat lady.' I can't bear the thought of someone killing innocent animals and I was wondering how everyone else feels about the topic. Keep in mind that was born and raised (and still live in) a rural farming community where it's an everyday thing for a tractor to roll through town and where you'll commonly see a truck pass by with a gun rack. Having been raised on and around farms I have grown to accept selling, raising and eating livestock as a fact of life. I am not a vegetarian but I am a member of the ASPCA. I love any type of animal you could throw at me. Now, that doesn't mean that I'd cuddle or keep a snake as a pet, but I do have a high level of compassion for any kind of life. The reason of this poll, however, is directed specifically towards hunting. I realize that hunting is a fact of life (I've seen plenty of deer carcasses hanging from trees). I just can't understand how someone can hop in their truck and spend their evening stalking beautiful, majestic deer and celebrating as their life drains out of them. One of my brothers is an avid hunter, he and I have agreed to disagree on the subject. How is chasing down a raccoon, squirrel, or deer fun? With what are they supposed to defend themselves? What does that doe feel when her mama doesn't come back after leaving to feed? I do realize that deer are overpopulated, as I'm sure that will come up, but I still couldn't imagine taking the life of an innocent animal and keeping it's head as a trophy...
  13. @@PixelToph How are you doing now, being almost a year out from surgery and being a Vegetarian? Im eating more and more of a plant based diet, I see many Vegans esp raw, eat a LOT of produce, there is no way I could eat a 1/16 of what they eat so I know I wont get to enjoy the vast amount of produce that I even once did. Looking to be inspired!
  14. k-statearmywife

What are your thoughts on hunting?

Growing up in rural Kansas my whole life, I understand the need for population control in wild animals. Deer are a major roadway hazard that can KILL PEOPLE. I am pro-life in all areas which means I'm also a vegetarian and therefore I don't believe that animals should be exploited for our own comfort and taste buds, however, when animals are causing a roadway hazard to me and my kids in the backseat, I am above feeling sorry for the deer and I would rather have a licenced hunter thin the population out for a good purpose. That may seem contradictory, but like I said, I understand why people hunt deer at least...they are very dangerous to vehicles.

    June 24th Peeps chime in!

I'm doing okay. Heartburn is a big issue, which surprises me since I never had it outside of pregnancy preop. I just switched to Nexium and it seems to be helping more than the Prilosec was. Still having some solid food struggles. I'm starting to feel like my surgeon is pushing the solids and 4oz quantities too fast. Cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese strings, re fried beans are all well tolerated. Meat (chicken, fish, pork, deli meat) are not. I haven't even tried beef yet and don't think I will anytime soon. So...I guess I'm sort of vegetarian these days?!

    My Fitness Pal

I'm still messing around with the settings but I've had better success since I've personalized the settings. Right now, as a generic setting (until I can double check with my surgeon and nutritionist at my 1 month post-op appointment) I'm at 1,000 calories. My food is all low-fat, sugar-free, vegetarian, and high-protein so I haven't gone so far as to experiment with those specific settings yet. After my follow-up I may try it. However, based on my calorie personalization, I do notice a difference, even if I -am- still getting that "starvation mode" message.

    Extreme fatigue

Yep, I had about 8 weeks of feeling like I was dead. Ditto what he said above me. My program is not anti carb either. The other day I read a post that said "follow your program: high Protein, low carb..." Just for those who read here for data, not all program diets are high protein and low carb. Mine is high protein, moderate carb. As stated above, the idea is healthy carbs. My NUT loves blended foods (something like Speical K protein cereal) where get both protein and carbs. I lean toward vegetarian so I get a lot of protein through soy. I might be losing a bit slower than others, but I really do believe it's a healthy slow since I added carbs back in upon having my diet smacked by my NUT at about 2.5 months out. I could not do high protein, low carb for the rest of my life. So I need to learn now how to eat healthy and for me that does mean carbs too. As you go forward you will find what makes you feel good. Right now give those mushy or full liquid carbs a try. It's not going to hurt. You are in the very first days of a long journey.
  18. I was just sleeved a week ago yesterday. The reason I am an odd bird is that I am pretty close to my weight and I am a vegetarian. I so far have lost 18 pounds in a week. I have gone back to work and resumed most everything despite the complications that I had(I had a leak during surgery that made them have to tube me and also put a drain in me). My problem now is that I can barely eat anything. I've learned to drink Water, G2, and tea to stay hydrated. I do my b-12 and Multivitamin in the AM on the way to work. But the only things I can mange to eat are Jello(I know not vegetarian but I caved), Ensure, and greek yogurt. Almost every Soup makes me feel sick. I've been told my stomach is extremely small because of the misfire of the stapler which cause the leak (he basically took my stomach from 90% to 85% because of the leak). The fluro looked great so the nurse just told me to keep trudging on(in a nice way) Any advice would be great. I have never thrown up but feel super duper sick anytime I eat anything but the above. Today I managed 5 bites of tomato soup and and to stop, same with cottage cheese which I still can't belive is a full liquid. Thank you!
  19. I am getting there. I recently watched Forks Over Knives, and came away disgusted. My grandpa was a farmer, and even though I knew that our meat and dairy does not really come from family subsistence farms anymore, I had my head in the sand about the brutality it takes to get meat and eggs to the table. My goal is to get to where I don't eat (or wear) anything that comes from a creature with a mother and a face. This is a total upheaval of the way I have eaten all my life and seems to be bariatric heresy. But I am learning about plant based Proteins and how to get my Protein requirements from those. My new diet includes more Beans, spinach, and nuts. The next step will be to experiment with tofu, that thing which I hate. There must be some creative tasty ways to make it taste like something. I had never peeked in on the vegan/vegetarian forum, but I think it's time.

    Need Dinner Party Help!!!

I like the chili idea cuz i prepare it in the crockpot so I'm not crazy in the kitchen when everyone comes and prepare a variety of toppings for everyone to chose from - onions, jalepenos, cheeses, olives, lettuce/shredded, tomatoes, and then maybe spaghetti(some like to top with chili) and some tortillas. I can also eat chili pretty well so I don't have to worry about pbing, etc. And, you can make a vegetarian version and meat version as needed. have a good time and don't stress too much is also my advice! Also i immediately checked out wheetsin's crustless pizza and i'm trying it tonight - girl you can cook

    Portion size: The Neverending Debate

Okay fellows, Here's my take. As I am only 7 weeks out, have not had a fill and am still losing here is my opinion: I have become very calorie conscous. I love fitday and have based my weight loss on my caloric intake which is between 1200 and 1500 calories a day. My meals typically are a 1/3 the size they used to me. Yesterday I had 2 oz. ham for lunch, 1/4 cup of homemade Pasta salad, and 1 slice of cut up cantaloupe. Breakfast today was 2 morningstar vegetarian sausages and one egg. I try to spread my calories out, eat more fruit, excercise a little more and allow myself one real treat a day. I am a chocolate addict so most times I'll allow myself 200 calories towards a special chocolate treat. I don't get anything that is in a bulk package as I probably would cheat but am safe if servings are individually packaged. I am trying to find the perfect calorie count to allow the most comfortable weightloss. Teresa Dr. Lopez 5/8/04 -32 362/330/?
  23. I am still on protein shakes until November 12, then mushies for 2 weeks. After that my doctor wants me on protien but no carbs. He is not thrilled with the idea of tofu or beans. Any suggestions out there.
  24. Check the label, most of those shots are heavy in low quality collagen protein (made from animal skin) . I was told not to bother with anything but whey isolate. I was tempted too, but they are not lacto/vegetarian, which I am.
  25. I was at a WLS conference this weekend and the dinner speaker, Dr. Garth Davis (of Davis Clinic in Houston and one of the doctors in Big Medicine) was promoting a vegetarian diet, non gmo, and organic. I'm working myself that way.. maybe someday I'll make it there.
