i am in the process of having the revision to RNY.how was the recovery/

From the little bit of research I've done on revision surgery from band to sleeve, you can still fail with a sleeve if you don't make proper choices in food. Go to the bottom of this page and click on VerticleSleeveTalk.com. There is a subsection just on band to sleeve revision. Just like band, sleeve surgery is not an obesity cure, it is still up to the individual to make the proper choices to make the band and/or sleeve work.

Banded 11 years ago and just starting to have problems
Matt Z replied to Kingb40's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had the band for over 6 years, didn't have any major issues, I got stuck a lot, leafy greens hurt to eat, stalled out with the weight loss really hard. It just wasn't working. The Barium swallow and fluoroscope didn't show any issues, but when my surgeon went to take the band out, it was 100% completely encapsulated in scar tissue. It took them 3+ hours to get it out when it normally takes less than an hour. I'm glad I was revised to the bypass, who knows what would have happened if I left that band in there. -
When I got my lap band I went 3 years without touching a soda. But then I discovered if I poured it waaaay up high over my glass most of the fizz came out of it and I started drinking it again. I'm having issues with my band, but a barium swallow shows no slippage or stretching of my pouch. I've always contended that you'll burp out all the excess gas before you'll stretch your pouch, and it appears that it was true in my case, but as Briswife15 sez-YMMV. See what your surgeon recommends. Now hopefully soon I will be getting a revision from a lap band to a RNY and if the surgeon says "no fizz" I will drop it in a New York Minute!

Band to Sleevers how many pounds did yu drop in the first 2 months ?
tynooky8 replied to nowornever14's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery date was Aug 20th. Day of start of liquid diet, Aug 6th I weighed in at 297, date of surgery Aug 20th 288, today is my 3month anniversary, i'm down 37lbs. I have a lot of restriction. I've lost a lot of inches. Good luck! I'm happy that I've revised. The sleeve feels nothing like the band, however, I get a little more heartburn than I've ever gotten, but its manageable, I just have to watch what I eat. -

So besides being pissed I'm now having a revision to roux en y with a competent surgeon on 4/18/16 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Veterans: Are you Having your Band Removed or is it Removed Already?
Carriejess replied to TQUAD64's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Lost 100 pounds through my band seven years ago and maintained but regained 50 due to two pregnancies and a major slip. Just revised to mini bypass last Friday. Very happy to have had my band but very happy to revise also! -
I had my sleeve done the end of August. It was a band to sleeve revision. I lost 30 lbs the first month but NOTHING since. Haven't gained...but haven't lost either. My protein intake is bad...I feel as if I have no restriction and I'm always exhausted. Im taking vitamins..iron and calcium. I walk but other than that not much else. I'm very discouraged and am embarrassed to go to my two month post op visit because I feel like a total failure. Am I the only one in this sinking boat?? OMG how in the hell do people drink this?!?
CowgirlJane replied to Sajijoma's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Protein drinks are a way to get a lot of protein in with very low carbs and moderate calories. Back when I was banded, I was not informed of the benefits of a high protein/moderate carb diet and did not use Protein Drinks. There are still surgeons who don't want you to drink your calories. I dunno, I am maintaining a pretty massive weight loss (half my starting body weight) and I still have 1/2 or 1 premier Protein Drink daily... usually in my coffee plus a few sips and I call it Breakfast. I am 4 years band to sleeve revision. I am not wild about ANY of them. The ones I could tolerate where premier chocolate or strawberry. The vanilla is vile but works as a base for a smoothie or a fake latte. For ones that start as a powder, I found the nectar Syntrax the only ones i could BEAR to drink. My my main complaint is they weren't very "satiating" as a person with a mature sleeve. They have lots of crazy flavors - the best ones in my opinion was the vanilla bean and I think the chocolate was okay. I don't use it anymore but I did during the weight loss phase. The best way to try the syntrax product is get their sample pack. It used to be you could get it for the price of shipping which was a great way to try before you buy. I recommend calling the company and asking. I bought my big jug powder of the vanilla bean from Amazon as that was cheapest at the time. -

I had RNY may 1, 2009. The smallest I ever got was 147.5 and that was only for a short time. I'm 5'7". Upon graduating from my masters program j moved back home to Indiana and since jan 2012 I've steadily watched the scale move up and up. Now I weigh 190 plus or minus .5 pounds depending on the time of the month. I'm ready to take back my life! My family is loving and supports me but my mom who also had RNY and a revision is a good pusher. I'm single and feel like I'll never be loved by anyone until I love myself. And I don't think I will live myself until I get back on track. I just don't know where to start. I need support from a community that understands all that I've been through and I'm hoping to find that here. -
August 5th here! I'm having a revision sleeve to bypass.

Band to Sleeve question
Halfagain replied to gilit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Gigi, I made the revision from lap band to gastric sleeve recently. My doctor required a three month wait between band removal and sleeve surgery. He said a lot of the callous tissue that builds around the band will subside if given a waiting period. It made sense to me, and asking around in my area at seminars pre-decision to do this, all the doctors (under my medical coverage) in my local area were of the same opinion. They said simply, waiting was safer. The band removal was quick. I was in surgery and out same morning. The port site, removal, was the most painful area for a few days. The sleeve pain levels were less than the band removal, however new eating rules and such of course have been a much bigger event after the sleeve. Best wishes to your husband, and you. It's great to see your support already in this, as My husband has been terrific supporting me. -
Is it realistic to not tell anyone I'm having surgery?
shuckybucky replied to lyndeeboo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I only told my husband and my best friend when I had my lap band. I had to tell more people when I had the revision because it was not planned and we had to accomodate kids, job, and etc. So I ended up having to tell my manager and my mother and another friend. You will find out that this is NOT the easy way out and in time you might be comfortable telling people you had weight loss surgery. The truth is that you will be losing the weight from diet and exercise. As far a not working out until 6 weeks that is not what my surgeon had me do. I was expected to be up walking the day I got home. I was up walking the hospital the entire 5 days I was in post op (mostly my choice because I was paranoid about getting blood clots). I wasn't allowed to lift weight for 4 weeks but I bet you will be exercising right away. It is your journey so do it how you feel comfortable. I even told a few people that I decided to follow a bariatric diet to support my friend having a lap band (my friend was having the lap band so it was partially true and that explained all the protein shakes. LOL -
Well had part of my revision done, Dr Alvarez couldn't do sleeve because my band had so much damage and a lot of scar tissue, now I can't wait for 4 months to go by to get sleeve done. Was disappointed to not get sleeve at same time but least I'm alive and well. 4 month wait will not kill me. Sent from my VS990 using the BariatricPal App

Laying On The Operating Table Today
PEvette replied to CRainwater's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi! The reason why I am having my lapband removed is because it does not work for me....you are so not alone....I was banded in 2005 and have lost a grand total of....10pounds!! and I have over 100 pounds to lose! I understand your inital feeling of being a failure, I still do not tell anyone that I have a lapband. Everyone knows I am having gastric sleeve surgery...but only a few people know I have a lapband and I am actually having revision surgery.... -
I know of 3 people now who have had severe complications post surgery. It is good information to know, and I don't think it should be deleted. I do, however, think that there is a complication factor with each and every WLS. Everyone should be able to see all the facts though, and make an informed decision on whether to have WLS, and if so, which one to pick. There were several reasons why I chose plication surgery, even after hearing of the other two complication cases. I think it might not be the right surgery for some, but for me it made sense. Thank you Lena for posting this! Hope you're feeling much better! Are you going to revise to another surgery now? Take care!

Embarrassing Question - What To Tell Casual Friends
Karen W replied to Karen W's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks so much to all for your suggestions. Hiatal hernia repair definitely seems like the way to go. And I've had some reflux problems of late, so who knows what the surgeon will find. I don't have any family in the area, and only a couple family members 1500 miles away. My 90 year old mother doesn't need to know. I am very close to my daughter and will tell her soon. At this point, I am thinking I won't say anything before the surgery. I am going to spend a couple days with friends in the city I used to live in. When I return home, IF I find I am more house bound than anticipated (eg not playing bridge, etc), I will say I had a hernia repair. And that will explain everything. My weight loss will be the result of eating (much) less and lots of exercise. Everyone knows I used to spend a lot of time in the gym anyway. Thanks again, everyone! And I know all of you will travel your journey with great success. (The "other") Karen -- yes...we are both revisions and having our surgery on the same day. I would love to keep in touch. Karen W -
Embarrassing Question - What To Tell Casual Friends
Jerziegirl replied to Karen W's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You sounds like me Karen! Lol! My name is Karen, I have a band that has caused me so much reflux that I am having it taken out with a sleeve revision on March 3 too and the doctor is repairing my hernia! Unlike the band where I told almost no one, I have shared my intentions because someone else I work with had a sleeve revision and they are getting tremendous from our coworkers and I decided to draw from that as well. I'm 225 right now and hoping to get to 145. I start 2 weeks of liquids only on Monday! Good luck to you! -
Revision surgery from Lap Band to Gastric Sleeve
Lelina posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just saw my gastric surgeon today and he definitely suggests taking out my Lap Band but revising it to gastric sleeve. I am quite confused, which one should I do, sleeve or mini gastric bypass? Thanks everybody for answering, in advance -
Sleeve Or Lap Band? How Do I Decide Which Is Best For Me?
kssooner2 replied to kflan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
okay here are my two cents worth. I was banded in 07 i am down 190 pounds.. I started at 424 and was 42 years old. The band "saved my life" i still have 50 or 60 pounds i want / need to loose. I started talking to my RN friend who also turned into a coordinatior for our Doctor, about getting plastics in next year and what the costs would be and what would be able to do. When i had my band, they were doing 20-25 bands a week plus other surgeries. They are now removing 5-7 a week going to sleeve or bypass. so 25% are revising now. there are complications coming out and she says now that it is not if there will be issues but when. the band will fail and if it does it could be and ER surgery. So on October 16th, i will be going in for a revision. Praying that I am ready for those wonderful 30 days of liquids and mushys!!! Good luck with your decision it is a life changer! -
Sleeve Or Lap Band? How Do I Decide Which Is Best For Me?
traceyinflorida replied to kflan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would look in several places for information...on this forum read throught the posts under lap band to sleeve revisions. Read Sleeve success stories. Also search for post about would you do it again on this forum to get the pros and cons of sleeve. Then go to the Lap Band forum and read the success stories, but also search for posts for the struggles people are having. I would look at success rates, weight loss totals, long term weight loss maintenance and complications. Finally I would ask your surgeon. My two cents. I was planning on getting the lap band. Several reasons I chose sleeve instead: 1. better overall percentage of weight loss with sleeve vs band 2. faster weight loss with sleeve vs band 3. no maintenence (fills, unfills etc.) on sleeve 4. no foreign device in my body that could errode, slip or cause other complications. I am 11 years older than you and had starting weight of 272 at 5'9". I had no health issues other than mild sleep apnea and being overweight. I am glad I made the choice I did. -
Thank you so much! I have learned so much the last couple of days. I may be having my revision on June 13th. My gosh it is going so fast. I am excited to not have to deal with all the issues that my band has given me. Thanks again for the information
