  1. I chose gastric bypass for a couple reasons. I know everyone doesn't get it, but I feel like the dumping syndrome Would be a help to me long term to stay on track just in case I considered straying a little. And second, I know this isn't everyone but I've seen alot of stories of people needing to get the revision from sleeve to bypass and I don't want to have to go through this again. Like everyone else said, talk it over with your doc. He/she will be able to help you come to a decision.

    FEBRUARY 2020 Surgery dates🌹❤️

Any surgery makes me a little nervous. I think this one is making me nervous because it's a second revision and I think it's a lot more complicated than the others.
  3. There's reality only two options in my city which was sleeve or bypass RNY. I did tons of research and decided on RNY for various reasons. 1. I wanted the Malabsorption aspect. 2. I wanted greater chance of fixing my diabetes which it did pretty quickly; was off all diabetes medications within a week of surgery. 3. I wanted the metabolic changes that came with the redirection of intestines because i believe my metabolism was so bad after decades of bad food choices. 4. I wanted the most restrictive procedure available and only wanted one surgery; most of my research showed many people being revised after sleeve surgery to bypass for many reasons. I am very very happy but I've been very strict on myself from day 1. Almost 5 months later and I'm down 126lbs from highest weight. But everyone has their own preference and reasons to what surgery they like.

13 years later and - I Love my band

Wow n that’s awesome. Good for u. It’s also AWESOME to know that someone is doing well with it for this long n with no problems. I had a ❤️/hate relationship with my LB n tolerated cuz what mattered most was that it kept my weight under control regardless. But, unfortunately had it removed due to PS complications n I semi miss this tool. So, I’m now standing by for a possible revision God willing. Thank u for sharing n God bless.🙏🏽

    SLEEVE regret

I have never regretted the sleeve for a second. From pumping the pain meds, to changing my diet, to stalls. It’s all good. I would only get a revision if I got GERD, and no sign of it 14 months out.

    Lap band to gastric bypass

I said the same thing to my surgeon, "this ain't my first rodeo". I learned all the good habits for WLS with my lap band like don't drink while you eat or soon after, little bites and chew well, not snacking, etc and I think it made the revision to a bypass easier since I have had those habits for 10 years already. I had my surgery Nov 20 and the first 20 pounds fell off in three weeks. Now it's a much slower loss, but still happening! I'm only 12 pounds away from the lowest I ever got with my lap band so I'm confident I'll reach that and surpass it. But yes, it WAS more painful than getting the lap band but you'll get over that fairly quickly. It took me about 5 days before I felt like a human being again...

    Lap band to gastric bypass

I had my revision on October 18 and am down 32 lbs since then. I found not a lot of difference, the original band surgery had prepared me quite well. Just the mind set of eating the really really small meals again and no drinking with meals an adjustment again. I know was always supposed to be doing it but after 21 years I had gotten into that bad habit again.

    Lap band to gastric bypass

For those that have had revisions from Lap Band to Gastric By-Pass, did your weight loss happen as you expected? What difficulties and advise would you share? My band was removed Dec 10, and the gastric by-pass is scheduled Feb 27. With my band I had already significantly reduced my portions, and eliminated many foods, like pasta, etc. I have been told that the life style changes required may easier due to my 14 years with a band. However, the weight loss may take longer.
  9. I am about 9 years post-op, I did very well up until my 40th birthday. then things went for the worst! slowly but surely gained 20 pounds each year! Not to mention having really really bad reflux. I cannot eat anything spicy, drink late at night even brush my teeth without having reflux. I went to my bariatric doctor and I feel like he just gets angry and scolds me for not logging food. He said I have some leaking but it is my weight gain that causes my reflux and tells me I cannot have a revision because he is sure it my food choices that have caused my weight gain and reflux. I make some bad choices but nothing nearly what I was before my procedure. I almost never drink soda, I don't eat corn, rice, or pasta like at all it makes me sick and pukes it up asap! my sugar intake is low although my weakness gets me most times. I know I could do better with water intake as well. I seem to feel hungry all the time. I know I can eat so much more than I did before. I could eat a whole hot dog in a sitting where before I could only eat half. I feel i am back where I was before a procedure where it seems even a slice a bread causes me 2 pounds! I really feel I need a revision or go RNY but I am so scared to even ask my doctor as I am scared of him judging me and denying me making it seem I am neglegent of my choices all because I don't log my food on a daily! any recommendations?

    Complete lap band failure

Knowing what I know now about the band and have experienced major issues with it, I would say revision is necessary. I just recently revised to the sleeve in November. It's weird because it still feels as though my band is still there without the stuck feeling. I am very restricted and you would think I am half way to goal, but no. I've only lost 14 pounds since my surgery. I'm happy because I'm not gaining lol. Anyway, by all means, consult with your surgeon and do what you feel is best. Good luck! Complete lap band failure

Thank you, @Lady VS. So I had my band placed in December 2015 and I was gung-ho and super excited and followed the plan to the letter. Didn't have restriction so I went in for a fill. Repeated a few times until I went in my last time (probably a year before I conceived my twins) and I told the doctor I was still hungry and when I burped I cleared my pouch. The doctor gave me a little more fluid to get restriction and when I drank water it made a gurgling sound in my esophagus so it was too tight and he took out the fluid. He said I was at my max restriction and shouldn't tighten it anymore. It's very discouraging. I haven't made up my mind 100% as I haven't seen a surgeon yet but after I had my twins I went back in and my current doctor suggested revision rather than refilling the band. Said for 50% of patients, the band does not work at all so he wasn't entirely surprised and it's falling out of favor. I don't want to do a bypass, though, if I'm still able to burp and slide whatever I eat right through my pouch I know that sounds kind of stupid because it's an entirely different setup and the stomach is literally bypassed but that was my issue before. I so wish I could find someone else who experienced this because it seems like I'm abnormal! It's like if you had a clogged drain, and then you pushed the clog aside for a second, the water would drain due to the air bubble in the clog. That's what burping did for me. I couldn't control it either, it's not like I swallowed air intentionally. But as soon as I burped the satisfied feeling left immediately. I gave up because of that. Anyway, definitely want to talk to a surgeon about this. I want a second opinion and I want to know what would be different if I DID do a revision.

    Complete lap band failure

I believe the issue here is the fact that your band is not filled. You have got to get the follow up care in order for it to work. You stated that you had twins and your saline was taken out. Why didn't you have it put back in after six weeks or so from giving birth? After care is the most important part of any wls, especially the band. I had restriction only because I did eat what I was supposed to and when I lost weight and felt I could eat more, I made me an appointment and had myself checked. Sure enough I would need a fill to take up the space from losing weight. Unfortunately 8 1/2 years later, I began having problems with it. It slipped, I lost restriction, gained almost all of the weight I lost, and now I'm sleeved. I don't get stuck anymore thank God. I still have restriction after I eat. What has changed for me is my taste buds. I can't eat or drink anything with a lot of sugar and I AM SOOOO HAPPY [emoji846]. Sugar was my addiction/problem and since I've been sleeved for almost two months now, I don't have that problem anymore. My suggestion is to get a fill so that you can get back on track. If you're mind is absolutely made up on having revision surgery, then good luck to you and best wishes. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

Completed Medicare Criteria, Next up - Surgery

That's great. I had Medicare for my sleeve surgery a year ago and had no trouble with approval. Good luck with your revision surgery.

Acid Reflux after SADI, SIPS, Loop-DS

I had the sleeve then had a revision to mgb due to reflux and I still have horrible reflux. Now I have to get a revision to full gastric bypass to get rid of the reflux. And of course insurance is refusing to pay for it.
  16. The interesting thing is that it didn't feel like much of a struggle. Sure, quitting smoking was a pain in the a**. And so was the regain. I lost the regain when I discovered that intuitive eating is a thing one can do after WLS. So the weight came off quite easily and I didn't restart smoking so far. All of that is long ago. About 17 years or so. To lose the second regain was also not much of a hassle eating wise because the MGB took care of it. The year between the unfill and making up my mind to really get a revision was a pain in the a** as well though. I was scared as hell and postponed for almost a year. I'm facing another revision now and I won't wait a whole year this time. It's been about three months now that surgeons recommended it (hiatoplastic, gastropexia and revision of the anastomosis) and I've finally made up my mind and hope I can schedule surgery at the end of February or begin of March.
  17. @Shparks You are not alone! I'm also struggling after a huge regain. In total I lost about 75kg or 165lbs. Then I regained 27kg or 60lbs back. My surgery was only about 2 years ago. I feel like such a failure. I can't explain how bad this is. I can see why there are so many mental health issues associated with bariatric surgery. I had the sleeve but I don't know if there would be any point to a revision to the bypass for me. Nevertheless, like many on new year resolution. I'm trying all over again. I've lost about 3kg (7 pounds). It does feel like a very long road back. I just hope I can do it.
  18. I used premier after my sleeve surgery but find my stomach won’t tolerate them after my recent revision to bypass. I highly recommend trying these samples. https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/syntrax-nectar-protein-powder-trial-sizes-17-flavors-to-choose-from?vec=eyJ2ZVRwIjoiRk9SVU0iLCJ2clRwIjoiTU9TVF9QT1BVTEFSIiwidnJJcCI6IjEifQ%3D%3D my favorite is the chocolate truffle and I tolerate them very well. I would be Leary of a one per day vitamin. Iron and calcium will counteract each other in certain doses. Also check with your team as they may require you to start on chewables. I take the bariatric fusion. Bottle says take 4 per day but my dr assures me that if I take two twice per day I will get the same results. I like that I don’t need any extra d3, iron or calcium with these. good luck!
  19. That's a good point. That is also something we "slow losers" should consider, the type of surgery each of us have had. After taking my time and literally reading every post on here, I'm going to say this for myself: When I first had wls in 2010, it was with the lapband. I am what you would call a "vet" as I have another login that followed my journey at that time. It took me 2 1/2 years to lose 99 pounds and it was established then by my doctor that I would be a "slow loser". I didn't like it, but I accepted it. Second time around, it was again established by my new doctor, "You are going to lose even more slowly than you did with the band." I didn't believe him, but here I am at almost two months postop and have only lost 14 pounds. I initially lost 10 pounds during the preop diet but after surgery, I gained it back. Not trying to but by simply following my doctor's orders. He said that he doesn't even consider the first month and to keep following my plan. Well, I was only two pounds down at my month weigh in by just following his plan and it was VERY DISCOURAGING. So I took it upon myself to do something different and it's working. I am a slow loser, IT'S NOT A MYTH contrary to other's opinions. I am happy that I am losing and NOT GAINING. It just gets very discouraging that you are losing weight slowly rather than quickly. It's totally a mind thing. I lost a LOT OF INCHES in the first month and I posted that in my topic in the revision section. When I first saw this topic this morning, it made me very happy to see someone else felt defeated at times like myself. I had no idea that I would be reading about all this other stuff, but hey it's all good. I have learned new information that's for sure. I lose weight at a significantly slower rate than the average person and I realize now, I AM OKAY WITH THAT!!! Good day all.
  20. Our surgery days are literally a day apart. I weighed in at 200.8 before surgery and have only lost 14 pounds, and you have lost 27. That is exactly what the OP was talking about. I know we aren't suppose to compare, but we are all suppose to being doing essentially the same things. Yes, out body build and genes are different, but still IT'S FREAKING DISCOURAGING when I am working so hard at this. It makes you feel like you don't know wtf you're doing even though you do because heck, you have done this ish before especially if you are a revision person like myself. Anyway, congrats on the 27 pound lost and many more to come in the near future.🙂

    How long does surgery take?

Sleeve surgery normally takes 2.5 to 3 hours is what my surgeon told me. My sleeve surgery took 3.5 hours. I just got revised to bypass. That was expected to take 4 hours but actually took 5.5 hours. It also included a hernia repair.

Help! Before I gain it all back...

I am so very sorry to hear about your daughter. I can definitely relate to what you went through. I lost my 59 yo middle sister just a few months before my sleeve surgery. Dr suggested holding off but I chose to move forward. I did well for about 6 months when we made a big move. Shortly after our move, I had to go and stat with my mom as she was put under home hospice care. Last thing I cared about was my eating or my weight as I went through all of this. I had lost 73 pounds during my first six months but it stopped there. I gained back about 15 pounds over the next year. I really struggled trying to get back on track. About 6 months ago I developed gerd and found out that I had a large hiatal hernia. I ended up needing to revise to a bypass. I am now 7 weeks out and am determined to stay on track. I must find alternative ways to deal with things in life other than emotional eating to be successful and remain that way. I posted to offer my support and also to let you know that you are not alone.
  23. I had sleeve surgery (which failed due to a leak) in Sept '17. I was 365 before surgery - I lost 80 lbs. By the time I went for my bypass revision I was up to over 300 again. I had the bypass last year in February and I'm now down to 239. It's slow for me too... I have PCOS. I am perimenopausal. I have a lifetime of bad ways of eating to deal with, but I am losing and I intend on carrying on even if it's slow. Like Dory says... Just keep swimming, just keep swimming. Now if I falter, it's not the end of the world. I continue to analyse what I'm doing and make corrections. I know that you posted this a while ago, but I hope this helps. It looks like you are doing an amazing job! Just keep swimming!

    60 years old

I am 65. I got a lap band at 55 but it recently slipped and caused me to develop a hiatal hernia. So I got it removed, the hernia fixed and a revision to a gastric bypass all in one surgery. Recovery was a bit harder than the lap band but I don't think it was that I'm 10 years older as much was how much more involved a bypass is than a lap band. You are never too told to try to improve your health, and the benefits far outweigh the risks, so go for it! And we are all here to help you get through it.
  25. How’ve you been feeling? I’m 6 weeks post op revision as well.
