He did give me a small fill which helps when this happens to get me bk on trk. Hope this helps. I know what thats you're going thru! I've been in tears @u times. Feel free to msg me for support anytime. If you can help with my ticker question that would help me stop pulling hair out lol. I pray it gets better for u soon. -
waking up with water in the mouth
FLORIDAYS replied to Awkward customer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No cant say i have....but If I ate a whole plateful of food at a Chinese buffet I bet I would. You have a successful loss going... Why not go back to portion control and get a slight unfill instead of a complete and see if that helps? -
Is This Calculator Right?
Butterthebean replied to hm734's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
60% is the minimum average that sleeved patients lose. They give you that goal to set you up for success. If you beat the average you are ahead of the curve. If you lose 90% or 100% of your excess weight, you're way ahead of the curve. But imagine if every surgeon set the goal at 100% excess weight loss. All the people who lose 80% would be considered failures. That's bad for your self esteem but also bad for business (from the doctors standpoint). -
I would have to assume that your doctor is less than what you need. No offense to you, but he sounds almost passive aggessive. What diet could be considered a fail to drop 11 lbs a month? 11 lbs a month is just fine. !Stop dieting and start focusing on learning your new habits! this period is not to diet, really - it is to address all of the things we had done to our bodies before, the head hunger, sabotage, issues, enablers, etc. You do not want to go back into ketosis unless you really have to. Generally it is agreed that some people can be in ketosis up to about 60 carbs a day, depending. Ketosis is hard on the kidneys and is not a long term solution to weight loss, so if you can still lose even a modest amount with out it, I would recommend to avoid it. Kidney problems is one of those things that if bad enough could definately reverse your efforts in a seeming wink of an eye. Good luck - perhaps go to a local support group and network with the intention of getting a knowledgeable PCP, if for nothing else just a second opinion.

Giving up is a great place to be! It is time to trust, accept, have faith, know that what is right for you is not the same thing that is right for another. We can choose to accept that our loved ones are all individuals that are working toward their goals in their own way. What appears to be failure or loss is really just us having our eyes on the wrong set of facts. Move the line of vision over to where your control is. On you. Be focused on yourself and let the other have time to learn what they must on their own time.

So I will be 3 months out on Friday, and have been wondering something. I've been losing at a pace I'm pretty happy with and don't feel deprived at all. I have three meals a day, with one snack during the longer span between lunch and dinner. My calories have been landing between 550-650 per day on average- carbs 40 or below (35 most days, including vitamins) and Protein at 60 or above. My question is this: I've started working out pretty regularly, and the loss has slowed down a bit. I know that's normal, but I always see people saying that if you work out, you have to get in more like 800-900 calories to keep losing. I don't get how that's possible!!!! LOL. Don't get me wrong, it's a great problem to have, but I feel VERY satisfied with what I eat, and can't imagine eating more. So how am I supposed to get in the extra calories to keep the loss going? I can already feel that my stomach has relaxed and I can eat more than I did at the beginning (6-8 weeks post op I didn't exercise and probably only ate about 400 cals per day). But I don't feel like I want to eat much more than I do now.. Here is a sample day of my diet, for reference: Breakfast 3 oz. plain Greek yogurt 8 blueberries 6 almonds Lunch 2 oz. homemade turkey meatloaf 1 oz. mozzarella cheese 1/4 cup sauteed veggies Snacks 1 stick of string cheese 1 tall soy cafe au lait Dinner 2 Trader Joe's turkey meatballs 1/4 cup bolognese sauce 1/8 cup shredded cheese If I'm still hungry, maybe 1 tbsp natural Peanut Butter before bed All of that only totals up to about 700 calories, which is at the higher end range for me. I'm really satisfied eating meals like these and not hungry in between. So if anyone can advise on where you put the extra calories to help when you're working out, or advise on whether that's really necessary, that would be appreciated!

When did your calories increase?
kemo46 replied to Golden's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I exercise at least 4 times a week. I still only take in about 600 to 700 calories a day, I am just not that hungry. I want to take advantage of that first 6 months of the weight loss. When I exercise, I do cardio and light weights, that is all. The stairstepper/ski machine gives me a tough workout and I gradually increase my time on it. I also use the treadmill on max incline, this I was told really helps with the stomach area. I think the calories are important but watching the carbs and eating the right foods are more important. Sorry for the roundabout answer to your question, My calories have not increased much from once I was able to eat solid foods, I am still between 600 and 700 calories a day, about 30-40 carbs a day and try to still get in at least 80 grams of protein a day. -

Hello All: I am in need of some help myself. I can't find a very good tasting protein power, does anyone have any good suggestions. And from what my surgeon states it is very important to use the Whey Isolated, because it helps with the weight loss and builds muscle mass. I was using Unjury the chicken flavor, it's great and it taste like chicken noodle soup, but it has a lot of sodium it in, but if you do not have high blood pressure it's a great way to get your protein in, and the weight melts off. I just can't use any of the products since my surgery, something is going on with my taste buds.

I was sleeve Oct 17th! Down 50 pds today!!! Yay! It has been wild with people saying "hey, you've lost ALOT of weight!" I was called skinny yesterday, lol (I'm not, but ok). Although others are noticing, its been hard for me to really notice... Weird huh? I guess thats the body dysmorphia thing!?!? At any rate, I'm overall happy with my loss thus far. I've made a few bad food choices and I own that, but I would have my surgery again in a heartbeat! I haven't seen this number on the scale in 7 years!!! In 3 months, I'm half way to my goal.... Yeah, wouldn't have happened without my sleeve!

I Was Given A List Of Appointments To Make And I Have A Question..
Tana_Q replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would think that your surgeon's office should have papers for the psych. My appt. was about an hour and my surgeon refers people to 2 psychologists that work within the bariatric program. The psych I saw asked mostly about my life, support system, past weight loss experience, etc. Everything was related in some way to weight or surgery and she didn't ask any of those off the wall questions like "do you like tall women?", lol. And yes, I actually had that question in a psych eval for a job! -
Hello post-ops!! Congrats to everyone!! Keep up the great job!! I'm a November 24, 2013 WLS. Seeking advise on what worked for you, did you get weak/fatigue and hair loss, Any suggestions!? My progress: WLS 11/14/13 5'7 Female 47yrs old. HW 268 size tight 20 SW 266 size 18 CW 233 size 14 GW 165 I'm averaging 2 lbs per week, no exercise due to knee injury/pain. Doctor is happy with my progress. I am too, my battle is to have enough energy to function upon getting up to get ready to drive to work and get through the day. Issues I've been experiencing feeling tired, fatigue and exhausted. I eat all my water/ meals/proteins/vitamins/biotin/omega fish oil and average 600 to 900 calories daily, try to eat more to get energy levels up, helps some days. I'm 3 months as of Friday 2/14/14 and I've started losing globs of hair especially after I shampoo. So I'm washing every other day. I was expecting this may happen, but so emotionally distressing and nerve wrecking to see it come out so much so quickly. I'm totally freaked out. Praying it slows down soon. Anyone else feeling exhausted and losing your hair?? When goes the hair loss stop?? Is it growing back??!

Weight loss
Introversion replied to SleevesRbetterThanPantz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Generally, younger people with 'heavier' weights often lose rapidly in the beginning. At 67 inches and 352 pounds on surgery day, you had a super-morbidly obese BMI of 55. You also look youngish. Due to your high BMI and youth, your rate of weight loss seems normal. On the other hand, I was considered a 'lightweight' in the world of weight loss surgery due to weighing 225 pounds on surgery day. I lost 15 pounds in my first month post-op, 12.5 pounds in month #2, and an average of 3 to 6 pounds monthly thereafter. I was a slow loser. Also, keep in mind that not all of your initial weight losses are fat tissue. Some water weight will be dumped with the fat that you are burning. -

Patience grasshoppah! I agree with Tea. Go back to do one thing at a time. Go back to your old way of eating LC or Keto or whatever you choose to call it. You are likely hungry with it cuz you're keeping fats pretty low. Maybe up your fats and see if it helps with satiety? But when I say "up" them, I'm not talking fat bombs or desserts, or lots of added dietary fat. I'm talking about: 1. Switch from boneless skinless breasts to breasts with the skin. Or switch to thighs. Or eat beef pot roast. Or eat pork shoulder. These cuts naturally have more fat in the meat and so have more calories and are more satiating. Also if you are only eating 2oz per meal (by weight) of protein, try eating 3oz. if you are eating 3oz per meal, try eating 4oz. until you hit your daily protein goal. If you hit your goal easily and go over on protein...then you may need to look at re-apportioning your protein/veggie serving size to fit your macros. I'd add a small salad with vinaigrette to each meal if that happened. I rarely eat more than 3oz per meal cuz I don't need the extra protein. 2. Eat 1-2oz by weight of al dente veggies. Add 1tsp of fat to them (avo oil, evoo, coconut oil, butter, ghee, animal fat) or add up to 1oz avocado, or 1/2oz by weight of nuts/seeds. 3. Eat 3 meals per day. Try not to snack. If you are hungry allow a snack composed of these (choose one): a. String Cheese b. Hard Boiled Egg c. 1oz dense dry protein. This will put you in ketosis big time by the end of about 4 days. You will lose 2-4lbs of water from it as your liver dumps glycogen and the attached molecules of water it holds. Then do that for a month and don't worry about it. That's your new diet. As your pouch matures, you will need to revise it to add more fat/calories to your day, or continue to choose more fat dense meats/dishes. If you are struggling with weight loss, I would stick to this and I would avoid calorie dense complex meals such as casseroles, stews, gooey, cheesy stuff. I'd stick to clean meats, healthy fats, al dente veggies. Hope that helps! Congrats on your losses!!!!! Don't stress, don't worry! For me eating in maintenance is longer than 2months with no loss on the scale or by the tape measure. For me a stall is 3 weeks without a change on the scale or by the tape measure. Other people have different definitions.

Not Enough Weight Loss! Scary
CaliKat replied to simplyQuel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone's weight loss is different and you cant really judge your loss by anothers. that being said, I understand your frustration- its hard not to get the green eyes meanies when people are loosing like crazy and your own loss is like molasses! This is a great question for your NUT- tell what are you eating specificly and provide them with a 7 day intake list. As a fellow sleever- and not a NUT- just be mindful of your calories/carbs and stick to Proteins first- maybe go back to basics for a week and do Protein drinks only. Best of luck and think about it like this- if you "only" lost 7-8lbs a month, that would put you at almost 100lb loss for the year! -
Not Enough Weight Loss! Scary
Ashbeaux replied to simplyQuel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been told by many that it isn't always about the weight. Do you measure your self? You might just be stalling a little, having an increase in lean body mass and loss of body fat. -
Feeling More Hopeful!
petra1124 replied to petra1124's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my girlfriend about my weight loss this past month, following my NUT plan, and she was like "yay, so reconsider surgery!" I was like...you just dont get it....I need to be able to keep it off. Ive lost and gained my whole life. Im tired of the yo-yo. I just want to be healthy...and I dont understand why people dont see WLS as a healthy option for weight loss. -
Thanks, ladies. I'm an I.T. computer tech guy, so I think in a linear fashion. I see this weight loss as a basic math equation - the right kind and method of food volume in, plus exercise and common sense, equals the right weight lost. Your experience is very helpful in teaching me what to expect. I'm getting more excited than ever. Dave

I have UHC. It only took about 7 days to get a response. Make sure that your employer does not exclude weight loss surgery from their policy. UHC provides WLS as an option...but some employers exclude it. Good Luck!
