Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Update: I think this intermittent fasting thing is not so bad. I'm not HUNGRY, I just want to eat something, so it's sort of the same sensation as week 2 or 3 post-op. I also worked on a coffee with cream all morning during meetings, which is probably not necessary but baby steps. Of course, I also think that I did not pack correctly for eating at work and at noon all I have to devour is a cheese stick, a protein shake, and a yogurt. So I may eat absolutely everything on my way home (which luckily is around 3pm). I've decided I own my bedroom. If the floor was made of lava I could step from the front door into my bedroom, and I also love my bed. And while I usually look like a refugee from an off-off-Broadway Flashdance revival at home, since moving into the new place I have to up my game (because my kitchen window is huge and everyone across the courtyard can see each other) and I've bought a flowy green Natori robe to swan around in. Let's see how long that lasts. I wish I liked Halo Top. For some reason any substitution I try to make like that bombs for me - it's like all I taste are the changed ingredients. So instead of a pint of Halo Top I do a quarter-cup of full-bore ice cream.
  2. Hey Everyone! With a surgery scheduled for 1/17, I am starting my 2-week Pre-OP liquid diet today. I am allowed no solids, and with the exception of unlimited sugar free liquids and jello and broth, I can only have 1 egg, 1/2 cup ricotta cheese and 1 cup of yogurt daily. Any suggestions or words of wisdom to add variety into the next two week?!
  3. So my issue is I’m always full. I don’t want to eat because I’m not hungry. I drink a protein shake in the morning and maybe a little yogurt or scrambled egg. That keeps me full most of the day. It scares me because it’s hard getting all of my protein in. Surgery was 12-7. Is this normal?

We are the same person. We can never meet, or we will cause some sort of vortex. i’m actually a fan of those self-service marts in the airports now. I find that I make much healthier selections, for some reason - no more desperation donuts. I get those little yogurt drinks instead of peanut M&Ms. Of course I also overpurchase and that’s why there’s a carton of cucumber-flavored airport water in my fridge right now (it cost $4, I am NOT throwing it out, even if I have to carry it through the entire damn airport and home). I am also now a fan of Alaska air’s little cheese plate things. I used to view it as a measly pittance, but today one of those things fuels me cross-country.

Everyone day eating habits 7-10 months PO

I am almost 7 months now and I was told to eat 800 calories/day with 70g protein - low carb. I can't really eat more than 3oz of meat at anytime, I just get full. But I can eat more if it is veggies or yogurt. I had a metabolic test done at the hospital that said I was burning 1566 cal/day without doing anything, so I calculated what that would be if I wanted to lose 10lbs/month using 3500cal/lb, which comes out to about 350cals/day. Then I added in 50cal/1000 steps, so if I walk 5000 steps/day I can eat 250 cals more per day. And if I go to the gym I estimate how many calories I burn, and I can eat that much more. So far this seems to be working for me, but I am female, 5'7" and 230lbs.

I like rice paper snacks, yogurt w/granola, tea. CONGRATS on getting back on track before you have any issues that cannot be corrected easily. Also group accountability efforts help, considered staying active in a support group either in person or online. Also you can make it fun... Safe Journey 🎈

    December 2018 Sleevers!

I am just transitioning to purée this week , will try eggs as well . Have been mostly still doing liquids , with a little cottage cheese mixed into greek yogurt. Am going to try tuna with yogurt today and. Also did the ricotta bake recipe and that went down ok , but need to eat super slow . I think we can do refried beans with shredded cheese so may try that and will try the turkey chili recipe . Bariastic app has great recipes !

10 months Post op: How much to eat?

Hi YandereAngel, I am currently 7 months Post Operative. The normal day looks like this: Morning- 2x Coffee with 150ml of skim milk Breakfast- 90 grams of Oats with Strawberry's and Blueberries averaging out to around 5 ounces Morning tea- Coffee with 100ml of Skim milk Lunch- 95 Grams of Tuna on 2 Vita-Weat biscuits Afternoon tea Coffee with 100ml of skim milk again and 30 grams of Almonds Min afternoon: Protein shake Dinner- Normally Meat and veggies max 5 ouces per serving. I consume around 800-1100 calories a day. I weigh everything to ensure I'm not eating any more than the required 5 ounces per meal. Some days I have a snack after dinner this is normally a piece of fruit or 5 ounces of yogurt. I am now at past goal weight so trying to maintain however its easier said than done I'm still losing.

    December 2018 Sleevers!

Hey sleevers, I'm 20 lbs down myself, and I'm 2 weeks PO SLEEVE on Thursday. I called myself trying grits with eggs 2 days before..NO GO[emoji17] I believe it was the eggs tbh. But I just didn't eat any of it. Had a shitty day on Saturday so I was not in the mood for anything really. Today was so much better, I got mile mile in today, didn't drink all 64 ozs but I did puree some potatoes yesterday and kept it down. I am looking forward to the bake fish when I get there. Still taking mostly liquids though. Any suggestions for the full liquids stage from the graduate sleevers. I am not a fan of the Greek yogurt. Unless it's the brand, I got a different brand this time for the next stage. Keep pushing you guys got this[emoji108][emoji108] Sent from my SM-G930VL using BariatricPal mobile app

    mousecat medical/dietary saga thread

He told me not to eat greasy or fatty food. The fattiest food I eat is my lowfat light n fit yogurt. lol. The Atkins shakes were 7g, but I quit those. Everything I eat is super low fat and low carb. And greasy? I would die if I ate anything greasy! I think the only things that haven't bothered me are actually 0 fat things. I hope the gallbladder is it because I can't eat ZERO fat items forever. The next 3 weeks are going to take forever. I hope I don't need recovery very long because I burned all my leave on my bypass. Yogurt brands

I like the toasted coconut light and fit. I have heard of people adding crystal light to their vanilla yogurt for a different flavor, but I haven't done that Sent from my SM-G920V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Cold food

I eat ricotta bake hot or cold. Google eggface's ricotta bake. Yogurt also works. My program also allowed well combined tuna salad, but that made me pretty sick. I also just bought this warming plate thing on amazon. I'm hoping that it'll keep my plate warm so my food stays warm. If your bowls/plates are small enough, some people suggested using a mug warmer - they're just too small for the salad plates I use.

    Protein after 5 weeks

Canned salmon, white fish of any kind, salmon of any kind, canned/pouch tuna, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, eggs (soft scrambled, soft omelets, soft boiled, soft fried), cheese (some do cheese). If you can do canned tuna, you can do canned chicken. Makes all kinds of good things!! This isn't a forever thing...it's only for a brief window. We can withstand anything for short periods of time.

    December 2018 Sleevers!

I had surgery the 20 th, doc said also dont step on scale for the first week because they filled me with IV fluids and still really bloated . But I walked as much as I could religiously and by the time I got on the scale (6 days after surgery ) I was down 4 lbs . I am post op day 9 and down 12lbs . Pretty steady 2 lbs loss a day but I am being letter perfect . 3 protein drinks a day , and a little plain yogurt /cottage cheese mixture . Just added in a protein soup and sugar free popsicle . Walking 10k steps , or around 4.5 miles . Getting 64 oz of water . Will do this till next Thursday purée stage, but will keep calories under 800 and protein 60-100g. Seems to work
  16. Hey guys, Who has gastric sleeve and then manages to catch a stomach virus? This girl! I was sleeved just over a month ago, and caught a stomach bug on Christmas. Think food poisoning - that's what I'm going through right now. The toilet is my new king and I am its loyal subject. I now know why it's the porcelain throne. I know saltines are a bad food to eat - they're a slider and they're empty carbs - BUT they're supposed to be good for settling the tummy. They're what I've aways had to settle my stomach. I could really use that right now. I'm leaning towards not getting them, but is getting them a bad idea? For perspective, I had to go to urgent care and get 1.5 liters of IV fluid today because anything I drink comes right back out the other end - I can't keep any fluids down and got dehydrated. They advised I stay away from dairy - there goes my yogurt and cheese, my easy sources of protein - and I don't really want to eat regular food right now.

  19. You can make your own "refried" beans that have less sugar fat and don't lead to the sluggish feeling (at least they didn't for me). from bariatriceating(dot)com: blend a can of pinto (I used black) beans with 1/2 c. mild salsa and blend until smooth. Might need to add 1/4 c-1/2c water or broth to get it super smooth/pourable. I also melt a bit of cheese. With respect to the soups and other foods, I was told to look for stuff with 5g or less of sugar per serving (6g was OK for the oikos yogurt I was eating) You can make your own tomato soup fairly easily. I base mine off the following recipe, but use any old tomatoes I want and use dried basil to taste. https://www.bariatriceating.com/2011/11/tomato-basil-soup/
  20. Try Oikos Triple Zero yogurt— has 15 g of protein and no sugar Also string cheese and turkey jerky are great snacks
  21. I made me an egg salad with Tblsp plain lite yogurt and dab of mustard a dash of salt and pepper. It was so good. I didn't care how squishy it was. Lol! Sent from Zebby's SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. Zeb I’m feeling like the puréed egg salad I had today has definitely helped with head hunger for me as well. I’m looking forward to trying a purées chicken salad soon, but so far puréed vegetable soup, and egg salad have been just fine. Same with sugar free pudding, I haven’t tried yogurt yet.
  23. I am on purees and doing better battling head hunger now than on the full liquid diet. I was going to try a few good baby foods got some. They no longer have the same ones that were out when my daughter was born. I tried a fruit one banana and orange combo. It was not at all what I expected. Lol! Making me some soft boiled eggs to puree. So far eggs are good. Yogurt is good. I have sugar free jello and pudding. I love sugar free fudgecicles and orange sherbet. 24. What does your day look like? I'm about a week ahead of you and, with planning, I'm doing OK on my protein and liquid. i think it helps that I only eat veggie and seafood protein, which are lighter and easier to digest. My days typically look like this: 8 AM Premier shake (11oz liquid, 30 oz protein) 9 AM start on a 24 oz bottle of water. Try to finish before lunch, but often have a couple sips left 12 lunch. Something like egg salad (about 1.5 eggs with greek yogurt, 10g protein) or ricotta bake (about 19g protein). If I eat something lower in protein like the egg salad, I'll have a babybel (5g protein) in the afternoon) 1: continue drinking 2:30 tea 16 oz or so, then some water (like another 8 oz or so) 7 dinner (2-ish oz shrimp or fish, about 12-15g protein with a TBL or so of veg) 8:30 - milk (13g protein for 8 oz) so, that's a minimum of 67 oz of water and 70-74g protein. One day I did it without shakes: Breakfast - one egg, a small veggie sausage, and 5g cheese (17g protein tea 14oz Lunch - 2oz tofu 17g protein water bottle 24 oz snack: parm chips 17g protein dinner: shrimp 14g protein Snack: cocoa (12 oz milk, 1 TBL cocoa, 1 packet stevia) 14 g protein 4 oz water before bed Total: 66 oz liquid, 78g protein

    Soda.

My surgeon said no carbonation. Some surgeons allow it. My surgeon was not particularly strict (no liver shrink diet, yogurt and cottage cheese allowed after 5 days) but he's old school about carbonation. I was addicted to regular sugared soda and I am terrified that even a sip of diet or seltzer will start crazy cravings. That is the only food or beverage that I really feel I can absolutely never have again, ever.
